Personal experience of DIY UAZ 469 body repair associates with several factors, the reasons for which it is necessary to carry out the appropriate work. Firstly, it is a rather aggressive operating environment (after all, it is no secret that a car drives mainly on wild off-road conditions). Secondly, it is also important that many of the privately owned copies are already quite old cars, which, with all the strength of their physique, are beginning to age slowly.

Such repairs, as a rule, are subdivided into small ones, carried out even without the help of a welding unit, and global, large ones, requiring rather large costs (when the entire wing is changed, for example, or, even more difficult, the load-bearing parts of the body).

In principle, with certain skills, both of them can be produced in a personal garage, there would be an appropriate tool at hand. But nevertheless, it is recommended for beginners to carry out major repair work under the guidance of an experienced master so as not to violate the geometry of the body (otherwise your car will not look very aesthetically pleasing at the end of the procedures).

Removing the old layers of paint from our fishing and hunting UAZ with a friend (we decided to make a fashionable spotted camouflage paint), we found places of corrosion and even several holes in the body of the body. Of course, we were a little upset. With places where there is rust, it is clear what to do: cleaned to metal, processed, as expected, putty and sanded. Everything turned out smoothly and imperceptibly. But what to do with holes? Not to change the entire wing due to several holes: it is expensive, and, frankly, it was not part of our plans to carry out such global work.

Koum advised that the holes (each one centimeter to two centimeters in diameter) should be repaired with fiberglass and putty. Such repairs, of course, are quite simple to perform, and by their means it is the cheapest, perhaps. But I read somewhere that this method is considered by specialists to be short-lived, something like a temporary firefighting option (although, sometimes we have nothing more permanent than a temporary one). Because, being actively exposed to moisture (and the machine is operated in the field), soon the place begins to bubble, swell, which leads to the expansion of the affected areas. And as a result, the hole turns out to be even larger than it was. And who needs it?

After consulting again, we decided to install more durable patches on the bodywork (metal). The metal was taken from the remaining scraps of the sheet, quite good and durable. In thickness - a little even thicker than the standard bodywork (well, just such a cut was found at hand). The patches were cut out with a grinder according to the dimensions measured in advance (with a margin to cover the holes well). At first, the parts were thoroughly sanded and ground them to the places of their dislocation. Then they took a powerful soldering iron and irradiated the joints.

The lapped patch was warmed up with a soldering iron and placed in the planned tinned place. Soldered carefully so that the surfaces do not have protrusions. We slightly adjusted it with a hammer. We waited for a while and checked the strength of the solder. Grabbed tightly! The top was ground again additionally.

So, our patch turned out to be even, and not protruding especially above the general surface of the wing. The same procedure was carried out with the next hole in the body. Everything was done according to the established scheme, so the procedure took even less time.

Then the places where they put the patches degreased, put putty, rubbed, sanded, applied again, tweaked and sanded clean. Further - as according to plan (but before that, they additionally looked more closely at the entire body for possible flaws: pah-pah, in other places everything was fine everywhere) - a primer, painting in a basic tone, overlaying stains of several colors, related in scale. And here is our dream in the flesh: it dries up - let's go fishing right away!

As you can see: everything is not so difficult as it seemed at first glance. So do not be scared right away, but our personal experience in repairing the UAZ 469 body with our own hands, I hope, will help you in gaining self-confidence!

The cost of the car in such a configuration was 339 thousand, of course, we with a fight abandoned the actively imposed "special stages", we managed to do this, having only approximately described the forthcoming amount of work, which obviously aroused the respect of the manager.

The concept of preparing the car: Hunting - Expeditionary option, however, no matter how embarrassing it would be to drive up to the restaurant with a young lady.

The craftsmen set to work with enthusiasm, especially since, as usual at the beginning of the construction process, the passion for destruction that lives in everyone is realized.Everything was dismantled from the car, for which something, by someone - fitted and screwed on "unnecessary", namely: standard wheels, bumpers, interior along with ever-gaining moisture upholstery, a stove, moreover, the headlining was dismantled for safety. The car was put on wheels of various colors and sizes, assembled throughout the workshop. The standard wheels, interior, trim and rear bumper found new owners at a fairly high speed.

After dismantling the interior, a huge hole was cut in the ceiling with our own hands, where, by installing amplifiers, a huge hunting hatch was inserted, which can be opened to the position: airing, and also taking out the cotter pins (which remain hanging on the chain, and are not lost), the hatch completely leans back, and 2 hundred kilogram uncles in winter clothes can easily be placed in the resulting opening. The hatch is sheathed with aluminum and insulated to prevent condensation from forming.

The hatch leans back entirely and in the tilted position is fixed on its own on the counterparts fixed to the trunk.

Above, there is a ventilation position, at the bottom the hatch is completely tilted.

The floors and inner sidewalls of the car, the tailgate and door cavities, were completely laid, first with vibration insulation, later with soundproofing, and only then sheathed with aluminum, all joints were sealed, and a flat floor was made instead of the "turtle". The UAZ plant probably does not know this technology of noise and water resistance!

Certainly! This is the whole tuning of the UAZ salon. They took and threw out the salon and inserted everything from Honda! Norm, cho! Also, thanks to the huge longitudinal adjustment of the rear sofas, it is very convenient to stand in full height in the hatch, and during the movement the rear passengers can go with their legs fully extended. With the rear seats fully folded down, there is ample storage space.

The steering wheel has been replaced with a more ergonomic and comfortable one. In the center, which organically fit the emblem of the MVT company.

In addition to the frontal light on the bumper, on the OJ expeditionary trunk there is a chandelier for the main and working lights.

After a 5 cm body lift and a suspension lift, NOKIAN wheels with dimensions 285x75x16 were chosen, which were assembled on alloy wheels by the Korean company SWIGER.

To ensure evacuation with confidence, the well-proven U4x4 winches with remote control and 12,500 pounds of pull are installed in the rear and front bumpers.

After, as all the parts were assembled together, the installation of the power body kit provided by the OJ Company began, and the attachment of additional equipment to the body kit.

Later, a front bumper was installed, with a platform for a winch, protective grilles, horns for quick winding of the cable. The bumper and side skirts are connected m / y by removable protective arches.

The protection of the steering rods and side windows was also installed, by the way, the protection of the side windows (with proper fastening) - perfectly serves as steps for accessing the trunk.

At the rear, the currently exclusive OJ bumper was installed, which combines: a power bumper, a platform for a winch, a wicket, a platform for a high-jack, a bracket for a removable towbar, a license plate frame with illumination and a cup holder (where without a cup holder, in during the halt).

Any car has to be repaired over time, and most of all mechanical wear concerns the body. Damage occurs primarily due to the poor quality of the road surface. Body parts are very susceptible to corrosion, because cars are not always stored in garages. And operation in aggressive conditions makes itself felt.

One of these cars is the UAZ 469, or in the common people "bobby". Also, the "loaf" is quite common - it is a minivan built on the basis of the 469 model. These cars are usually operated in off-road conditions, which greatly accelerates the wear of not only the chassis, but also the wings and underbody, the repair of which is quite easy to do with your own hands.

With the help of several keys, the UAZ 31512 can be repaired in the middle of the field, and if you use special equipment, the results will be impressive. It is advisable to watch the repair on the video in advance - this will help determine what and how to do. It is unrealistic to repair some damage on your own, but there are some that can be dealt with on your own.

Sometimes, removing an old layer of paint from the body of a UAZ 469, people find real holes. The problem can be solved in two ways - by calling a specialist or by towing the car to the workshop. This should be done if you do not have a welder or a welder friend. But if the hole size is smaller than a matchbox, you can do it yourself, without welding.

The easiest way is to seal the hole with fiberglass and putty. Such repairs are simple, but they also have disadvantages. As the place will be exposed to moisture, it will soon begin to bubble. That way, the hole can only be repaired for a few weeks before your bobby or loaf gets into the hands of a specialist.

There are other ways, many of which can be seen in the video.One option is to install a metal patch. To make such a repair yourself, you will need:

  • a piece that completely covers the hole in the body,
  • powerful soldering iron,
  • soldering acid.

The joints are tinned, after which the patch is placed on the body and soldered, warmed up with a soldering iron. Everything must be done in such a way that the surface does not have a protrusion. If necessary, you can correct the flaws with a hammer - the putty will hide all the irregularities, and the loaf will look great.

The second stage of UAZ 31512 body repair involves filling and painting. Before you start sealing irregularities with your own hands, you need to prepare the surface. This involves cleaning and rinsing it. Then, using a solvent, the surface is degreased.

The area of ​​work must be matted before applying the putty, for which the P240 abrasive is used. This will allow you to detect small defects that were previously simply not visible. Then the scratches are sanded, and this should be done very carefully and thoroughly in order to eliminate all sharp corners and peeling elements.

The sanded surface must be washed and degreased again. If rust is present, special agents must be used to prevent future corrosion. Do not do this - and after a while you will find ripples or swelling in such places. Now you can start directly with the putty.
