In detail: chainsaw calm 361 DIY repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Question: I use a Stihl MS 361 chainsaw. Tell me, are 3/8 (1.6) ring sprockets suitable for 3/8 (1.3) chains? Will the low profile chain dangle from the big sprocket?
Answer: For a crown, or in other words, a ring sprocket, in interaction with a chain, the main parameter is a step, and the thickness of the driving link can be any from 1.1 mm to 1.6 mm. The main thing is that there is the same pitch of the chain and the leading sprocket.
If you paid attention, the crown itself has some freedom of movement along the axis of rotation. This is done to make the chain run smoother, reducing vibration caused by the moving chain.
If the chain shanks could still “dangle” from one side wall of the sprocket to another, naturally in the presence of normal chain tension, then this would be a blessing on the contrary, the sprocket resource would increase, because its teeth would wear out evenly over its entire surface.
Usually it is quite the opposite, the chain shanks choose one place on the teeth and during the operation of the chainsaw they begin to slowly “cut” this place, in especially advanced cases or in the presence of a low-quality asterisk, sawing the asterisk in two halves.
Question: how is it better to start-warm up the Stihl 361 chainsaw in the cold?
Answer: 1. I usually put the lever in the down position and pull until the first flash.
2. I put the lever in the middle position (half gas), looking for some.
3. As soon as the engine starts at half-throttle (the chain rotates), I hold it for about 5 seconds and only after that I do the rebase. When I do heat re-gasification immediately after starting.

Question: Chainsaw Calm MC 361, the carburetor does not obey the adjustment. What is the reason?
Answer: There can be several reasons. Air leaks are possible.
Question: Do I need to use an 8-tooth motor sprocket for ripping with a 361 Silent Chainsaw with Timmerjig?
Answer: Not necessary, but it is better to install an 8 tooth sprocket. The saw chain must be changed! The saw tooth of the chain must be sharpened at an angle of 10 degrees!
There is no spark on the chainsaw calm 361, how to check if the ignition is working, how should the gap between the flywheel and the coil be hit?
Visual inspection: 1) The wires visually look nominal (without melting, etc.); 2) The flywheel is not “blue”, the gap is 0.2 mm .; 3) It is better to put a new candle. If there is still no spark, then we can say with 90% certainty that the problem is with the ignition module.
Question: Please tell me what the “N” symbol on the box of the STIHL 361 chainsaw stands for, although the saw itself does not have this symbol?
Answer: The letter “N” on the box of the Stihl MS 361 chainsaw means that the chainsaw is assembled with a cylinder gasket 1 mm thick, especially for Russia, anticipating the poor quality of gasoline in our country. For models sold in Europe, use a 0.5 mm spacer.
When working with the saw it was calm 361, it abruptly began to gain high revs, did not react to the trigger. I drowned it out, now do not start.
There is a spark, after pulling the starter 20-30 times the candle is dry. I cleaned the carburetor, flushed it out, but the fuel does not come in (full tank of gasoline).
I disconnected the hose from the carburetor, gasoline does not go - I also cleaned the breather in the tank from it. The filter on the intake is clean - the result is zero. I filled in a little - it started up with a half turn and stalled, we have no service. How to fix?
according to the symptoms, somewhere there is an air leak, I can only say that the malfunction is quite serious and it will not be possible to fix it myself. Do not torment the saw, it is better to unscrew the muffler and see in what condition the piston is, if it is smooth, then everything is fine, if the longitudinal stripes are bad.
Question: The clutch slips in the Stihl MS 361 chainsaw due to oil and dirt. How do I remove the clutch myself to clean the entire basket?
Answer: Pull off the lock washer with a screwdriver, remove the sprocket, now to twist the clutch you need to lock the piston, for this we remove the back cover, the top cover, unscrew the candle, insert the stopper into the plug hole, twist the clutch until rotation stops and unscrew the clutch (the clutch on the left thread).
Question: There is a problem with the Stihl MS 361 chainsaw. Maybe someone has come across a problem and will help you with advice.
The bottom line: the saw starts up perfectly while it is cold, rattles smoothly, but after several cuts, when it seems to warm up, idle starts to float, and as a result, after 10 seconds the saw stalls at idle.
If you turn on the gas, you can cut further, as before, the loss of power seems to be not observed, but without re-gas at idle it stalls again.
I removed the lid and checked the air filter, it was clogged with dust, but in my opinion it was not critical, it let the air through, and eventually replaced it with a new one.
The situation has not changed. He took off the candle, the candle was black, dry, rubbed it, checked the spark, everything seemed to be normal. In the operation of the chainsaw, nothing has changed again, it stalls at idle as before.
Replaced the candle with a new one, the result is the same. He began to sin on fuel, made a new mixture on new gasoline, the result is the same. Starts up like new, but no way with idle speed. Gasoline 92, oil calm HP.
The oil was bought from a dealer, the packaging is original. He seemed to not allow overheating, he worked for 15-20 minutes, he felt sorry for the saw, he fired half a barrel at a time, or even less. I sharpened the chain once a day, or even more often. In general, what do you recommend?
Answer: To begin with, turn the Calm 361 chainsaw carburetor adjustment screw half a turn to the right clockwise. But, most likely, nothing else is needed.
If it turns out that the chain is moving at idle, then you can gradually turn in the opposite direction. Ideally, there should be a steady operation and a fixed chain.
However, for a specific instance of a saw, it is quite possible that at the lowest possible idle speed, at which the engine is still running stably, the chain will at times “twitch” on the tire.
If this happens with your saw, you do not need to be afraid, but you also don’t need to forget about this feature.
Question: With prolonged hard work, the internal element of the muffler frays its body and broken pieces can get into the cylinder.
This happens apparently due to overheating. Is there anything you can do about it? I try to tighten the muffler when loosening the studs.
Answer: They have such a problem - with mufflers. I've experimented, on several saws (of those that periodically get to MOT) I did not put a gasket under the muffler. And it seemed that the mufflers did not fall apart much longer.

Home »Adjusting the Carburetor of the Stihl 361 Chainsaw
The chainsaw is an irreplaceable tool, both in the home garden and in the summer cottage. But even the most reliable "iron" assistant begins to mope, then it does not start, then it stalls. There can be a huge number of circumstances, both related to the quality of the fuel consistency and to the engine.
There are many aspects, we will not consider all of them in this article. And we will "take a closer look" at that part of the engine, which is called the carburetor.And we will try to find the answer to the following questions: when is it necessary to adjust the carburetor of a chainsaw and, in fact, what is the scheme of such adjustment.
Before proceeding with the adjustment, you should know the structure and mechanism of the carburetor. This will help to avoid many "complications". So, to begin with, let's recall the mechanism of operation of a gasoline engine. There is fuel in the cylinder, and when burned, a small "explosion" is created, which makes a huge pressure. This pressure pushes the piston, the piston, when set in motion, turns the crankshaft. As a result, the pressure energy is converted into a rotational moment, which drives the chain by means of the sprocket.
During normal operation of the engine in each cycle, it burns out only up to 10 milligrams of fuel. And the fuel mixture is prepared and supplied in the carburetor.
Thus, the purpose of the carburetor is to combine the combustible mixture with air in the required proportions. If these proportions are violated, the operation of the motor is disrupted. For example, when mixing, not a lot of fuel is supplied, but there is a lot of air on the contrary, then such a mixture is called "poor". And on the contrary, if there is not enough air, but on the contrary there is a lot of fuel, then this is a super-saturated mixture. Both options lead to malfunctions in normal motor operation and require adjustment.
The carburetor consists of the following basic parts, and although the design may differ depending on the model, the device and mechanism of operation are approximately the same:
the base of the carburetor is a tube, which in its features resembles an aero tube, an air flow enters through it; - an air damper is located across the tube; by its position, it either increases the air flow or decreases it;
the tube has a constriction - a diffuser, which increases the speed of the air flow just in the place where the hole for the fuel supply is located;
the fuel itself enters the air channel from the sprayer, into which it enters through the nozzle from the float chamber (indicated in the photo as a fuel needle);
the float chamber itself serves as a typical reservoir, the purpose of which is to ensure a constant level of fuel at the entrance to the air channel.
The mechanism of operation of the carburetor is subsequent. A brisk stream of air flows through the air channel, its speed will also depend on the position of the damper. The float level provides the degree of opening of the fuel supply channel and depends on the position of the same air damper. The air flow passing through the diffuser picks up the incoming fuel and sprays it. At this moment, a mixture appears, which is sucked through the intake pipe into the cylinder.
In the float chamber, the pressure level is approximately equal to atmospheric, but in the air channel it is rarefied. Due to the pressure difference, the fuel is sucked through the nozzle into the air duct. The more the air damper is open, the greater the air flow, and, accordingly, more fuel is supplied. More fuel - the engine speed increases.
This is how the carburetor works. There may be aspects to its structure, but knowing how a simple carburetor works, you can always grasp and find the purpose of other parts.
In general, the need to adjust the carburetor of the Stihl chainsaw, or at least some other brand, appears quite occasionally. Signs of a misaligned carburetor are indicated by:
the engine starts and stalls, or does not start - in this case, a "poor" fuel mixture may be a prerequisite;
fuel consumption has increased significantly and there has been an increase in the amount of exhaust gases (the fuel does not completely burn out) - a prerequisite may be an oversaturated mixture.
