In detail: sofa eurobook DIY repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
The problem is that 2 springs have broken in the sofa and a depression has formed in this place. Please tell me how to repair it yourself? His photos are attached below. ” > ” > ” > ” > ” >
Remove the trim (from below it is nailed with brackets) - they can be easily picked out with a screwdriver and pliers.
Remove under sheathing material.
Broken brackets are removed by twisting - this is how a key is removed from a metal ring. The brace is most likely attached to the bottom of the seat - either braces or curved studs.
Insert the new springs in the reverse order.
Replace the bedsores with any rags.
There is always someone better.
Gelo M, Thank you very much for your advice, but where should you go to buy springs?
The primitive transformation mechanism makes it possible to make such a piece of furniture as a eurobook sofa with your own hands.
Folding furniture is very popular both among owners of small living quarters and among owners of large apartments. Eurobook in many ways outperforms other sofa models: the design is simple and reliable, the berth is flat, without sensitive surface changes.
In order to understand how to make a Eurobook sofa with your own hands, you need to understand the design and features.
The main characteristic of the model is immobility during transformation, which is realized by pushing the seat forward and lowering the back into the resulting space.
To ensure the movement of the seat, you can equip it with a special mechanism, but at home it is enough to make recesses in the side load-bearing bars, and attach small support legs to the seat itself. The backrest is raised and lowered thanks to the simplest non-separable hinges.

The design of eurobooks includes a base box with a linen box, it can be with two armrests or without them at all. There are models with one armrest, which allows you to create a corner sofa.
Such furniture saves space, because there is no need to install further from the wall to ensure transformation. After unfolding, the berth will turn out to be large and comfortable.
In order to start directly creating furniture, you need a detailed drawing of the Eurobook sofa, which is drawn according to individual preferences, you can take a finished project as a basis.
The main thing is that the drawing includes the size of the finished product with the overall dimensions, with the dimensions of each component part. In addition, it is necessary to indicate the location of the hinges so that during the manufacture of the back and seat in the right place reinforcing bars for reliable fastening, the exact dimensions of the height of the box with legs, the location of the parts. This model has 4 main legs on the frame and 2 on the pull-out seat.
If the performer is familiar with carpentry and has an understanding of the process of creating a sofa, you can rely on previous knowledge and customize the details in the process. It is better for a beginner to spend more time creating a diagram and drawing, having carefully calculated all the parameters already at this stage.
To assemble a sofa with your own hands, you need to make a linen box (base), back and seat, armrests.
Of the materials you will need:
timber 40x40 mm;
plywood 5x15 mm;
MDF or chipboard sheets;
foam rubber 10-20 cm thick;
upholstery fabric;
3 hinges and 2 support wheels;
fasteners;
joiner's glue.

screwdriver;
stapler;
plane;
electric jigsaw.
The production of a Eurobook sofa begins with cutting the material into blanks according to the drawing. All sections are sanded with sandpaper.
The linen drawer of the sofa begins with the creation of side details. On both sides, along the edge of the chipboard (MDF) workpiece, the legs are screwed with self-tapping screws, stepping back from the top of 75 mm.
Parallel to the upper edge of the side workpiece, a guide from a bar is fixed. On each side of it, smooth cuts are made with a plane or jigsaw to fix the wheels on which the seat will move. In places of cuts, the distance from the upper edge of the MDF should be equal to the height of the wheel. The second side piece is manufactured in a similar way.
The back and front parts of the box are laid on a flat surface, ready-made sidewalls are placed between them, the whole structure is fastened with self-tapping screws. In the center, in the upper and lower planes, transverse beams are installed for more reliable fixation of the box.
The bottom is sewn up with a sheet of plywood, at the corners of which square sections for the legs are pre-cut. At the very end, the box is turned over on the legs, and between the transverse reinforcing bars in the rear part, a vertical bar is installed, to which the loops are subsequently screwed.
For reliability, you can add metal corners to the box itself in the corners.
The manufacturing processes for the seat and backrest are almost identical and differ only in some respects. First, the base is assembled from 2 longitudinal and 2 transverse side bars, additionally reinforced at the ends with bars 20 cm long.
One side is sewn up with a sheet of plywood. In this case, it is necessary to carefully monitor so that the right angle does not shift in the process. Then, 5 transverse bars are placed and fixed in the seat at an equal distance from each other. In the back, the extreme reinforcing crossbars are placed at a distance of 195 mm, and 1 exactly in the center (at the locations of the loops).
Sew up the back of the back with a sheet of fiberboard (you do not need to do this on the seat). The base for this part of the sofa is now complete. Then we fasten the side bar to the front part of the seat, in which the recesses for the transverse reinforcing bars are pre-cut.
At the next stage, legs are attached to the tsar with two self-tapping screws and a bolt with a nut, the height of which is equal to the height of the linen box. To decorate the sides of the product, plywood blanks are used, which in front are equal in width to the tsar, and in the back they are beveled to ensure the combined movement of the sofa folding mechanism. Fix them with self-tapping screws to the side of the seat base and the leg itself.
This completes the production of 3 basic elements of the Eurobook. You can start covering with fabric and filling with soft material.

Most often, the Eurobook sofa is equipped with two identical armrests. They are made from chipboard. Bars are screwed perpendicularly, their length should ensure free movement of mobile furniture elements.
For reliability, longitudinal elements are fixed in the lower part parallel to the floor, in which holes for bolts are drilled. Their continuation should be done in the sofa body as well.
Before installing the armrests in place, they need to be pasted over with foam rubber or padding polyester and covered with fabric.
The folding mechanism of the sofa is represented by 3 non-separable hinges bolted to the backrest, and 2 support castors on the seat.
The hinges are installed on the stiffening ribs of the back at a distance that will ensure free lowering of the element. You can follow the diagram or place the backrest horizontally on the linen drawer and measure the required dimensions with a tape measure. The details are screwed with the required number of self-tapping screws. Then we attach the back to the base.
Before fixing the wheels, a hole is drilled in their locations, the diameter of which will be equal to the bolt on which the mechanism will rotate. Then the fasteners are passed through the part and, using a screwdriver, are screwed in almost to the stop, while leaving a small backlash for free twisting.
The final stage of creating furniture is filling and upholstery of the seat and back.To create softness, it is best to use foam rubber with a thickness of 20 cm, if the thickness is 10 cm, then it is laid in 2 layers.
The fabric is selected taking into account individual preferences and prices. The main thing is that it is not only beautiful and pleasant to the touch, but also strong enough. In addition, you should choose a canvas that is easy to clean, does not absorb moisture and odors. Especially if the sofa will be used constantly.
It happens that after several years of use the sofa needs to be replaced with a spring. What to do: send it to the landfill or try to fix the situation? Let's talk further about how to do it yourself repairing sofas at home replacing springs, their species characteristics and much more.
The sofa has several structural elements that provide its user with high comfort, comfortable rest, relaxation of the muscles of the musculoskeletal system: springs, frame, upholstery. When choosing a specific model, you need to pay attention to their quality so that the product does not require repairs for a long time.
If the upholstered furniture is made of quality materials, it will have a long service life. But sometimes even first-class models need to be repaired after some time of operation.
Replacing the spring system of sofas of different sizes, colors and configurations is required in a number of cases:
the model served for a very long time, so the springs weakened their action. As a result, there are dents and bulges on the seated surface, and it is not very comfortable to use the product, especially when unfolded;
it is necessary to repair furniture if the spring structure used in the manufacturing process had a factory defect, low quality, and so on, but this fact became clear only after some time of furniture operation;
repairs may be necessary when the level of rigidity of the spring elements was chosen irrationally, that is, they are not suitable for its owners in terms of comfort and rigidity. But, unfortunately, such a characteristic as the level of rigidity cannot be adjusted in a significant way. You can either replace the spring system with another model, softer or harder, or slightly soften the mattress with foam rubber.
One of the most important criteria in terms of the comfort of such furniture is a block with practical springs. Repairing sofas at home may require replacing all the elements, but before starting work, you need to determine what type of these elements is present on the sofa. Modern manufacturers use these types of springs.
Note that the service life of the described types of modern systems is different, which also affects the final cost of the sofa. The most durable and expensive are designs with a block of independent springs, and the most affordable options are on a flat spring snake.
Bonnel block Independent springs Snake
Self-repair of a sofa in a living room or kitchen can save a lot, because the services of professionals in this area can be expensive, and the springs they offer to replace old ones can have a higher cost than their counterparts in the store. It is not difficult to replace the springs of the sofa with your own hands if you prepare carefully for the work: purchase new structural elements, acquire up-to-date tools, draw up detailed instructions for performing operations.
To repair the spring block of a sofa with your own hands, you will need to have the following tools at your disposal:
yardstick;
a wrench for disassembling the sofa frame;
flat screwdriver for removing the brackets on the upholstery;
pliers for replacing metal products;
a clerical knife or scissors for cutting the underlay;
construction stapler for fixing the upholstery to the frame.
If you want to renovate your sofa without involving the services of professional furniture makers, you should carefully study the procedure. You need to start by disassembling the sofa, or rather, by disconnecting its side parts with a wrench. Do not allow these structural elements to fall freely after dismantling, mark each of them so as not to confuse the left and right parts during subsequent assembly. Further, the mechanisms are dismantled, the seat, the back and, if available, the pallet are disconnected in turn.
You will need to use pliers to remove the covers. With their help, carefully, without jerking, pull out the fastening brackets. Otherwise, the upholstery could be damaged.
Dismantling the sofa should start by removing the side elements Disassembled sofa
Pull out the mattress, go to repair the springs. With the help of a damp cloth, it is worth removing dust from the surface of the structure, and then carefully inspect all the springs. Remove the damaged springs with pliers and replace with new ones. Next, cover the spring block with a foam mat or other material to extend its life.
Carefully remove the upholstery Damaged spring Spring fastening options
The fact is that during the operation of the sofa, differences are created between those springs, which are exerted by the weight of a person, and those springs that remain unused. This leads to deformation of the spring block and the need for its repair. If you fill the gaps between the springs with foam rubber, as well as cover the entire mattress with a similar material, this can somewhat smooth out the load drop. Ultimately, the sofa mattress will last longer.
The distance between the springs should be filled with foam rubber
If you need to replace a large number of springs in the sofa in a large, one-piece Bonnel unit, it is easier to purchase a new unit. If only one or two springs stick out, then only these elements are subject to replacement, and it is not rational to change the entire block.

DIY upholstered furniture repair with before and after photos
In the conditions of using movable transformation mechanisms in sofas, their malfunctions occur most often. But this is not the only possible problem: the upholstery can be damaged by pets, the sofa sags over time, loose fasteners cause play in individual parts, and so on.
The main components of the sofa
And in order to understand how to repair a sofa, you need to understand its main units.
Sofa frame - main supporting structure
Sofa armrests with opening top

Wooden sofa frame
If there are problems with the body or armrests, the sofa needs to be repaired urgently to avoid further operational problems. When fixing broken wooden parts, we need the following materials and tools.
Joiner's furniture glue.
If necessary, paint and varnish.
Screed or profile.
Self-tapping screws and screwdriver.
A set of hexagons and furniture screws for them.
Emery cloth.
Clamps.
Drill and drill set.

In the case of a chipped part of the armrest, it is worth collecting the fragments. Do not clean the chip under any circumstances!
Apply a layer of wood glue.
Attach the shard to the main part and secure with clamps through the bars.
Let the glue dry. On average 1 day.
Secure with a tie and self-tapping screws (not from the front part).
Sand the glued area with emery and sandpaper.
Apply paint and varnish.
In the repair of the main frame, it is better to replace the load-bearing boards with new ones, but you can also put support in non-critical cases. For this you need:
disassemble the sofa to access faults;
align the faulty plate and glue it with glue;
install bars (ties) on the back side for additional structural rigidity;
assemble the sofa.

Mix glue with sawdust for better adhesion and quick drying.
This mixture can also be used to fill holes for screws and bolts.
Pet owners know firsthand about coating problems. Also, replacement is carried out after severe contamination and obsolescence of the skin. Only the complexity of the conduct depends on the material, and not the process itself. But nevertheless, it is better to entrust the replacement of leather and leatherette to professionals.

Possible options for transforming sofas
A high-quality mechanism most often determines the cost of a sofa, since moving parts break faster. There are several types associated with the principle of operation. Each of them requires its own maintenance and problem fixing.
Set of wrenches.
Screwdriver and screwdrivers.
Machine oil or other lubricant.
Stapler and staples.
Drill and drill set.
Diagram of the transformation mechanism of the "Roll-out" sofa
The most common mechanism. The popularity is associated with the simplicity and low cost of execution. It was named so because of the principle of rolling out the section for the "bed" position. It also consists of rollers on an additional section, a slide with a fixing bracket on the body. There is also a lifting mechanism or an additional leg. Common problems are braking and squeaking when rolling out. It is solved by replacing the rollers and sleds. There is also a lack of complete fixation in the "bed" position. In this case, repair of the retaining bracket is required.
Diagram of the transformation mechanism of the "Book" sofa
It has been known since Soviet times and is already morally obsolete. In this regard, it is difficult to find accessories for the device. The sofa uses the front of the backrest as an additional section.The transformation takes place by folding the back and sitting together, removing the roller from the end position, rolling the roller and decomposing the sections. The most common problem is the inability to unfold or fold the sofa. In this case, do not use force. It is “treated” by disassembling the sofa, cleaning the guides, removing the tension from the fixing spring, lubricating the axle and fixing the jam or replacing the roller. In case of multiple problems with the mechanism, a complete replacement of the block is preferable.
The new variations use a rocker piece with springs. It is more reliable. But in the event of a malfunction, a complete change is required.
The scheme of the transformation mechanism of the sofa "Click-Klyak"
The most modern type for serial models of upholstered furniture. Has three positions. "Click Klyak" allows, in addition to the seat, to use the backrest and armrests as a sleeping surface. An interesting name is associated with the sound of transformation. Outwardly it looks like a book mechanism. However, it uses a special folding mechanism without rollers. Since the perfect fit of all moving parts of the device cannot be done at home, it is better to change the entire unit. To do this, it is necessary to disassemble the casing and filling and fix the breakage.
Diagram of the transformation mechanism of the sofa "Accordion"
Has three positions. Unfolding and fixing occurs due to movable axles and locks. For disassembly you only need a 10 spanner. The locks themselves look like a clamp without a tightening bolt. Frequent problems are similar to those of a sofa-book. All elements must be lubricated periodically.
DIY sofa repair process
Do not try to replace one mechanism with a completely different one. The use of different principles of work determines not only the difference in components, but also in the purpose of the elements.
Chipboard is more difficult to restore than wood.
If the support metal is bent, replace it immediately and do not try to straighten it. The structure of the metal will not withstand long loads and will deform again.
Frame play leads to breakage not only of the wooden parts, but also of the guide rollers. The friction generated also harms the upholstery.
Apply grease only to cleaned surfaces.
Do not overtighten the fasteners.
Hex keys must be of good quality. "Licked" edges will stop work for a long time.
WD-40 can be used to remove rust from moving parts.
Do not neglect installing washers on bolts and axles.
It is not necessary to make wood slabs or cladding yourself. It can be ordered in a furniture showroom.
The "licked" heads of the fasteners should not be rocked or tried to pull out the bolt. It is better to cut it off with a sheet of metal.
Monitor the condition of the pallet. This part of the frame is load-bearing and undergoes high loads.
Call a partner for all repairs. This will make your work easier and safer.

Folding upholstered furniture is deservedly popular. It is an integral part of a modern living room, it can serve as an additional, and sometimes it is a permanent sleeping place. It is very important that the folding mechanism is light, reliable, and the product has a long service life. This type of furniture is the eurobook sofa.
When asked if a Eurobook sofa can be made by hand, the answer is unequivocal - yes. The transformation principle of this mechanism is very simple. It is designed for daily use. The Eurobook sofa consists of two soft parts: a seat and a backrest. To unfold, you need to push the seat towards you, then move the backrest to a horizontal position, taking the vacant space. As a result of the transformation, the sofa turns into a full double bed.
It is not very easy to create a Eurobook sofa. But if you yourself carefully study the drawings, diagrams, listen to the advice of specialists and coordinate actions with step-by-step instructions, you will certainly succeed.
To make a sofa eurobook, you will need (all parameters are in millimeters):
Pine timber 40x40 - 11 pieces, 2 m each.
1 laminated chipboard 16 mm thick - 2200x600.
1 chipboard - 1960x850.
2 sheets of plywood 4 mm thick - 1500x1500.
3 sheets of foam rubber with a thickness of 40 mm and 1 with a thickness of 20 mm - 200x100.
Self-tapping screws of various dimensions - 75, 51, 35.
4 screws M6 25 mm.
4 mortise nuts M6.
3 furniture hinges 60x40.
2 furniture legs 50 mm.
About 6 m of upholstery fabric 140 cm wide.
4.5 m padding polyester with a density of 100-150 g / m2.
Batting or foam rubber with a thickness of 10-20 mm for the upholstery of the seat and back of the sofa.
Furniture stapler, staples.
A circular saw.
Electric drill.
Miter box.
Sandpaper.
Stain.

From plywood sheets:
1 PC. 1300x730 (seat);
1 PC. 730x658 (seat);
1 PC. 1365x730 (back);
1 PC. 593x730 (back);
2 pcs. 800x630 (box);
2 pcs. 730x150 (seat end).
Below is an example of cutting out plywood parts. It will help you make the most of the material.
2 blanks 750x80 (sofa back and seat);
1 blank 2000x170x20 (tsar);
2 blanks 730x150x20 (seat ends);
3.5 m (total length) of 40x20 strips for the back ends.
The advantage of this model is the presence of a capacious box for linen. For this part, we take a bar, chipboard, the bottom is made of plywood.
Let's start assembling frames for the Eurobook sofa:
To make the frames, select the 4 best quality bars (1960 mm) for the longitudinal sections.
Reinforce 4 transverse bars (650 mm), which will be extreme in the structure, by attaching small blocks about 20 cm long to their ends (on one side) with self-tapping screws (70 mm).
It is necessary to make markings for 2 self-tapping screws in the attachment points of the parts that form the frame. We install short parts with a bar for reinforcement inward. We carry out the connection so far with only one self-tapping screw for each joint, so that later we can align the angle of 90 degrees.
We apply plywood, align the corner along it so that the sides completely coincide. We fasten one side with self-tapping screws. After making sure that the frame is even and the short base bars are parallel to each other, we fix the plywood to the frame with self-tapping screws. For the reliability of the connection, it is advisable to grease all the necessary places in front of the self-tapping screws with joiner's glue.
We install 5 transverse bars on the back frame. The first - stepping back from the extreme one by 195 mm (we will attach loops to it), the subsequent ones with a step of 392 mm.
On the other hand, we stuff fiberboard onto the future back.
On a similar frame of the sofa seat, we distribute the transverse strips (5 pieces) evenly over the entire area of the part (fiberboard is not needed on the seat). This difference between the backrest and seat frames is well demonstrated by the drawings.
If you are not using solid plywood, but pieces, then leave 1-2 mm free between the pieces. The joints should be additionally reinforced by placing a transverse strip on the seam. Secure the edges of both parts to it with screws.
For those who plan to use a decorative padding of the upholstery material when upholstering a sofa, now it is necessary to make holes for the padding (diamond or square). They should be drilled by installing a drill with a diameter of up to 13 mm. Immediately mark on the details where you are up and where you are down. On the back, step back from the top and sides of 23 cm, below -25 cm. Measure 25 cm from the back of the seat, and 23 cm from the front. Apply the remaining holes according to the selected scheme. Drill plywood and chipboard in the back. If you find yourself on a timber, it is better to indent.
We continue to work with the sofa seat.
Congratulations! Using the drawings and instructions, you were able to make a eurobook sofa. It will take place in your home or serve in the country, providing a comfortable place to relax.

Furniture can be expensive and not very, high or low quality. Regardless of this, after a certain time it wears out and it becomes necessary to repair the sofa with our own hands.All work can really be done independently, it is enough to have basic work skills, the necessary tools and materials.
If you have an old sofa with a chipboard frame, then it will be harder to repair than one with a wooden frame, but everything will depend on the state of the frame.
In order to repair a sofa with our own hands, we need to know its design.
There are different models of sofas, but almost all of them consist of basic elements:
the armrest can be soft or not, made of metal, wood, chipboard or MDF;
the upholstery material can also be different: leather, leatherette, fabric;
a layer of batting or padding polyester; furniture foam rubber is usually used as a filler;
to improve cushioning, in some models a layer of polyurethane foam is installed;
the main shock-absorbing element is the spring block;
burlap is used so that when rubbing against plywood or metal, there are no extraneous sounds;
the frame of the sofa is made of wood or chipboard.
Your sofa may not have all of the listed items, but now you will know their name and purpose.
In many ways, the durability of your sofa will depend on the quality of the frame and the material from which it is made. The service life of the sofa, the comfort of its use and environmental friendliness will depend on what kind of filler is used.
The analysis of the sofa should be started by removing the sidewalls, after which the back and seat elements are removed.
Types of transformation mechanisms:
the most common is a sofa-book;
when using the eurobook, the seat moves out, and the back rests in its place;
the eurobook tick-tock does not slide out, but moves in a circle;
the accordion type consists of 3 parts, but it is practically not repaired;
the use of the click-gag mechanism allows you to make 3 positions: in the form of a sofa, in a semi-unfolded state and in the form of a bed;
dolphin mechanism is used in corner sofas.
In the event of a breakdown, the transformation mechanism of the old sofa must be changed only to the one used in the specified model.
If we talk about fillers, then one of the best is a spring block covered with batting and burlap, but this option is expensive, and often foam rubber and coarse calico are used to reduce the cost. The cheapest models do not use a spring block, instead they put several layers of polyurethane foam or similar material.
Since you are repairing an old sofa for yourself, you need to use quality materials. Polyurethane foam must be taken with a thickness of at least 40 mm. The use of holofiber allows for wet cleaning of the sofa. The synthetic winterizer does not absorb moisture, makes the furniture embossed.
A padded jacket is well suited for a spring block - 5 cm of cotton wool, covered with a layer of coarse fabric. Periotec holds its shape well, has high strength and heat resistance.
Fabric or leather is used as upholstery. Working with leather is quite difficult, so this work must be done by specialists. You can work with the fabric yourself, it is divided into woven and non-woven textiles. Most often, when deciding how to repair a sofa, the following fabrics are used: flock, velor, jacquard, chenille, tapestry.

Knowing all the basic elements of the sofa and the materials that are used to restore it, you can begin to carry out the repair itself.
To complete the work you will need:
Before proceeding with the repair, you need to disassemble the sofa. It is necessary to remember the location of the parts so that you can then put everything back together. To simplify the assembly process, you can use a camera or camcorder during disassembly.
First, the armrests are removed, they can be combined with the legs. The sides are fastened with two bolts, to unscrew them, you need to raise the seat. After that, the transformation mechanism is removed, it is unscrewed from the frame, seat and back. Now the rest of the sofa is dismantled until one frame remains.
The upholstery must be removed carefully so as not to damage it, since then it will be used as a template for the pattern of new upholstery. If the mattress is in good condition, then you shouldn't disassemble it.
VIDEO
In order to make a cover, you must have basic sewing skills. If the sofa is of a complex shape, then you will have to work more. Fasten the finished cover with staples. If the stretching is carried out manually, then first the fabric is attached from the front side, at the attachment points it must be folded in half. After that, they are fastened from the opposite side, and then in the corners, making sure that the fabric is stretched and there are no folds.
In a similar way, the upholstery is replaced on all other structural elements. After that, the sofa is assembled in the reverse order.
This work is carried out in a similar way, but in this case we do not change the upholstery, most often these 2 operations are combined. The sofa is disassembled in the same way, the old foam rubber is removed and replaced with a new one, the thickness of which should be 35-40 mm.
The foam must be fixed, for this you can use glue or staples with which it is attached to the frame. A synthetic winterizer is placed on top, and covered with a cloth.
Disassembly of the structure is carried out in the same way. We assess the condition of the springs, if they are damaged, then we replace them. If the transformation mechanism is broken, then it must be replaced with a similar mechanism.
If, when examining the frame, you find damaged elements, then they must be replaced. If you cannot make them yourself, you can order them in the carpentry shop or purchase them in the store. New elements are fixed with glue or self-tapping screws.
Features of the restoration of the spring block. In sofas, springs of the old model can be installed, their diameter is 0.15 m, height is 0.20 m and thickness is 0.05 m, or the new model is height 0.12 m, diameter is 0.10 m and thickness is 0.02 m.
