After the shelves of electronics stores were flooded with cheap Chinese-made DVD players, these wonderful devices immediately appeared on the repair table.
As practice shows, malfunctions of DVD players are mostly of the same type.
If the malfunction of the DVD player is “No disk"(No disc),"Error”(Error), random freezes during playback, the disc does not load the first time (only after several attempts), the disc does not spin up, then you need to pay attention to the following details of the player.
One of the most common processors used in the manufacture of DVD players is the processor MT1389 or its analogues.
If it gets very hot during operation, then, most likely, the 1.8V and 3.3V power stabilizers, which power the processor itself, are faulty.
In practice, there was a case that the MT1389 processor heats up, but the DVD player regularly plays music from CD / MP3 discs. I refused to read DVD discs. It turned out that the 1.8V and 3.3V stabilizers were assembled according to a simplified scheme on transistors, which did not ensure proper stabilization of the processor supply voltage.
Video (click to play).
As a result of a short-term surge in the voltage of the 220V supply network, the overvoltage passed to the processor, and it began to work with glitches and heat up like a kettle. On the board of the switching power supply, a burned out (but serviceable!) Low-power resistor was found in the voltage stabilization circuit. This is how simplified circuitry shortens the life of an ordinary DVD player.
A defective processor makes it difficult to diagnose a breakdown and, therefore, repair the device. In most cases, if the processor malfunctions, the DVD player cannot be repaired, as the repair costs can be very significant. In addition to the financial costs of buying a new processor, the problem of replacing a faulty one arises, since special equipment is required for dismantling / mounting.
Laser reader
The laser reader is the Achilles heel of DVD players. Laser service life is 3 - 5 years... But this period is declared by the manufacturer.
Usually, with prolonged and frequent use of DVD, rapid degradation (aging) of the laser diode and contamination of the optical elements of the reader occur.
As a rule, a malfunction associated with the inoperability of the laser reader is eliminated by replacing it. Replacing the laser is simple but not cheap.
Here is a list of interchangeable DVD laser readers:
It is worth noting that one of the most common and fairly easy to eliminate malfunctions is the contamination of the lens of the laser reader. Sometimes it is enough just to clean the lens and the device starts working properly. I have already talked in more detail about typical malfunctions of laser drives on the pages of the site.
Spindle motor
If the rotation speed of the DVD disc is not constant, with frequent jerks and slowdowns, then the problem may be related to the motor or driver.
Spindle drive faults are sometimes difficult to detect.The fact is that the engine is in good working order, but due to wear it gives out understated revs. In disc players disk rotation speed is linear, it is constantly monitored by the processor, which sends commands to the driver. But the engine is so worn out that no speed control system can handle it. Usually, in this case, DVDs are not loaded the first time, random freezes occur during playback, the disc does not spin at all.
With such defects, it is advisable to replace spindle motor... The one that turns the disc.
Spindle motor is better replace with the table on which to install the disc. If only the motor is replaced, then the height of the table installation on the motor shaft should be measured.
This is due to the fact that distance from laser disc to laser reader must be within some acceptable range otherwise, the focusing system will not be able to focus the laser beam on the surface of the disc.
If you install the table on the motor shaft "from the bulldozer", then freezes or even impossibility of playback are possible. Sometimes, after an incorrect table setting, the player reads CD / MP3 discs perfectly, but difficulties arise with DVD playback. The disk may load every other time, freeze or not be detected at all.
Therefore, before replacing the motor, we measure the installation height of the table, and after repair, we check the DVD-player for correct reading of discs of various formats (DVD, CD Audio, CD / MP3, DVD-R / RW, etc.). This recommendation also applies to the repair of car CDs / MP3 players and videol.
Motors with the following markings are very often used in DVD players:
MORF300CA287 RF-300F-12350 D / V 5.9 (D / V 5.9 - stands for 5.9 Volt DC motor - infa for the curious
)
The driver is a microcircuit that controls the spindle drive, the positioning motor (the one that rolls the laser head), the laser lens focusing coil, the disk loading / unloading motor, in general, all the mechanics. The driver receives commands from the processor.
Usually, if the driver is faulty, then it gets very hot. In this case, malfunctions of mechanical components appear (problems of loading / unloading the disc tray, the disc does not spin up, there is no positioning of the laser reader)
It should be noted that during operation the driver heats up (after all, it is an amplifying element), but if the temperature of the case is clearly too high (the finger is already burning!), Then the driver itself is more likely to be faulty. Also, excessive heating can be associated with a malfunction of any engine. If the drive consumes excessive current, then this can lead to strong heating of the driver microcircuit.
The most common driver chips are:
BA5954FP (can be labeled as AZ5954M, C5954, CD5954 - all these are analogs);
SA9259 (full analogue of the microcircuit - IP4001).
Replacing a faulty driver is quite troublesome, since these microcircuits have a planar case, which makes it difficult to dismantle them with conventional soldering equipment. To dismantle the driver chip, it is best to use a hot air soldering station (hot air gun) and Rose alloy to reduce the melting temperature of the solder.
For mounting a new driver microcircuit on a board, a soldering station with a tip of a suitable profile is quite suitable.
