Often, owners of PVC structures are faced with the fact that the opening handle is blocked or it breaks altogether. As a rule, for the elimination of such malfunctions, the craftsmen require payment and often the cost of their work turns out to be beyond the means of a person. In such a situation, you can significantly save money by doing the repair of plastic windows with your own hands without the participation of a specialist.

In addition to the above problems, there are many other cases where the design requires debugging. In this article, we will consider the most popular types of breakdowns and self-repair of plastic windows in general.

If you notice a similar phenomenon, try to eliminate it by manipulating the eccentrics of the pins. In the event that Roto fittings are used in the construction, you should turn your attention to the frame response plates - taking the four-key hex key, find the corresponding element in the middle (see image 1). By turning the key, you can fine-tune, thus solving the problem. The direction of rotation is determined by the "scientific poke method".

In that situation, if the window is equipped with Winkhaus fittings, grab the lock with two fingers and pull the eccentric back by turning it in the right direction (see image 2).

If any other hardware is installed on the window, with the exception of the above, then you need to pay attention to the trunnions (movable rollers on the sash with a hole for a hexagon "four"). At the edge of such a pivot you can see the risk (see image 3) - by bringing it closer to the seal, you can adjust the clamping force of the sash. The closer it is to it, the tighter the clamp will be. It should be noted that during the summer period the roller must be returned to its original position. Otherwise, the seal between the frame and the sash will wear out quickly.

You also need to look at the position of the movable rollers relative to the counter plates on the frame. There is a possibility that the latter could be set incorrectly. Thus, the trunnions do not go behind them when closing. In such a situation, you need to rearrange the mating plates. To do this, loosen the screw securing the plate to the structure and move it slightly lower so that the pin can fully go under it. If you cannot solve the problem of adjusting the eccentrics, it would be wise to seek help from specialists - self-repair of plastic windows in such a situation will not bring anything good. However, usually the above measures will help solve the problem.

A similar problem can be observed not only on swing, but also on swing-flaps. There can be two reasons.

1. The first is the installer's mistake when installing the window. Probably, the frame was stretched in the center with a nail or an anchor, as a result of which the middle clamping mechanism of the sash stops working.
2. The second reason is that the straightening plates, which are installed during the assembly of the structure between the frame and the glass unit in the vertical center, could have fallen. It happens that they completely forget to install them.

As a rule, such problems are solved by a specialist in 5-10 minutes - the glazing bead is removed, after which the required number of straightening plates is inserted between the profile and the glass. To make repairs yourself, you need to follow these steps.

To remove the glazing bead, you will need a stiff spatula, which is usually used to remove paint, or a wide chisel. It is not recommended to use a knife or flat screwdriver for these purposes - you can spoil the aesthetic appearance of the structure. Leaning the spatula along the joint of the profile and glazing bead (see image 4), you can remove it with a light blow on the handle. You will see plastic plates sandwiched between the glass unit and the frame. You will need the same ones - they must be inserted in the middle into the existing gap, moving the frame away from the glass by 4-6 mm.

Records can be bought at a store or made yourself from a plastic ruler. The main thing is that the width of the homemade plate exceeds the thickness of the glass unit. Otherwise, it may crack. Make sure that the groove plate rests against the profile. In order to move the glass unit away from the profile, you can use a chisel. You should not make a wide gap right away, first move the profile 3-5 mm. and after inserting the plate, close the window. If its thickness is not enough, open a window and insert another one.

Often, the window handle is blocked, thus preventing the sash from closing. In a similar situation, you can do the repair yourself. Typically, the cause of this blockage is a blocker. It works only in the open position of the sash and the handle cannot be turned in any direction, which prevents the window from closing.

Modern designs are often equipped with fittings with such latches that lock the handle in the swing-out or open state. Surprisingly, this is done on purpose so that the consumer does not accidentally damage the product. However, locks are often triggered randomly - usually this happens when the position of the handle changes abruptly from one mode to another. Let's talk about how to repair plastic windows in such a situation.

First, you must identify the hardware manufacturer. This can be done by reading the name marked on the metal shutter. If the manufacturer is AUBI, then you need to pay attention to a metal plate with a spring that will stick out opposite the handle (see image 5).

This plate must be pressed tightly against the seal, after which, try to turn the handle. It may not turn if the sash is in the tilted position. The structure must be located vertically, otherwise the upper blocker, which is responsible for the swing-out position, will prevent the handle from turning. Therefore, initially you should give the sash a vertical position and only after that press the plate against the seal - in such a situation you can easily turn the handle, unlocking it.

If you have a different hardware manufacturer, you need to find a metal tongue that will be located below the handle at an angle relative to the frame (see image 6).

You need to follow the same steps as described above. Simply bring the tongue upright with the seal parallel to it. Then you can turn the handle. However, it should be noted that in this situation there may be an incident with thermal deformation of the structure. The tab, when closed, can slide past the counter element attached to the frame without touching it. As a result, it will not bend towards the seal, blocking the handle. Then you will need to loosen the screws securing the counter blocker element and put a thin gasket under it (the same plastic plate). In this way, you will ensure that the mating element on the frame engages with the bollard on the sash.

Often, owners of PVC windows are faced with the problem of a malfunction of the handle rotation blocker in the Winkhaus fittings, fixed in the tilt-and-turn scissors. As a rule, the wear of the part occurs due to constant friction, as a result of which the structure refuses to close. Thus, only two positions remain available for the handle: upward for ventilation and open. Please note that no effort should be made to close the handle. By doing this, you can break the main constipation reducer. There are two ways out of this situation: either call a specialist and pay him 1,500 rubles, or do the repair of plastic windows with your own hands without his participation.

For independent work, you will need to remove the sash to get to the scissors. To do this, remove the plastic trim from the top hinge. Next, using a screwdriver and pliers, you need to pull out the pin (see image 7).

Having lowered the sash to the floor, unscrew the screws that fix the fittings and remove the scissors. Now you need to remove the blocker (see image 8). After that, you should fix the scissors in their original position and put the sash in place. Now the fittings will work like a clock.

Typically, this problem requires replacement of the handle. Note that the tips below will also apply if you wish to install a handle with an opening restriction. It is especially useful for those who have small children - the child will not be able to open the window without your supervision. So, all the steps to replace the handle will not take you more than five minutes.

Rotate the plastic strip at the base of the handle 90 °, thereby exposing the screws that secure it to the frame (see image 9).

Unscrew the screws and remove the broken handle. In its place, you need to put a new handle and fix it with the same screws. Note that when installing the plastic comb, you must add a ventilation regulator plate by securing it under the base of the handle. Such regulators, as well as the handles themselves, can be bought in any pavilion that sells door handles, as well as in any construction market. As a rule, their cost varies between 70-200 rubles. Products equipped with a security lock (opening limiter) can cost more (up to 1000 rubles).

This situation can be caused by two factors: drying out of the grease or sagging of the sash. The first thing to try is a penetrating, all-purpose spray lubricant that you can find at any automotive store. Putting the tube on the cylinder, generously coat all the moving elements of the structure, in particular the upper corner gears. If this does not give the desired effect, try turning the hinge adjustment screws on the window. To do this, you need to remove the plastic plug on the lower hinge. Next, according to the diagram (see image 10), lift the sash and tighten the screw located inside the hinge using the hexagon. Noticing that the upper corner of the sash begins to touch the counter plate on the profile, tighten the screw of the upper hinge.

We dare to assure you that this is one of the few problems, the elimination of which is not recommended to be done on your own. This is an incredibly difficult and time consuming exercise. If, in search of a master, you come across an offer to do all the work on the spot (disassemble the glass unit and glue a new one in place of the damaged glass with a sealant), feel free to send such a repairman to hell. This is due to the fact that the glass unit is sealed.

In the gaskets between the glasses there is silica gel - a special powder that dries the air. If the integrity of the structure is violated, depressurization will occur. As a result, the powder will absorb moisture from the air. As a result, after gluing the glass and installing it, over time, moisture will appear on it, which will show through inside the camera.There is also the possibility that the silica gel will start flowing yellow resin over the glass. Taking this fact into account, order the production of a new double-glazed unit from specialists. The product, made by handicraft methods, is the best way to reflect the meaning of the saying "a miser pays twice."

If you are determined to change the glass unit yourself, we recommend that you adhere to the following tips. First, remove the old product from the frame after removing the glazing beads. Be prepared for the glass unit to be very heavy. It is advisable to take it out together. After that, take off its dimensions using a tape measure. Don't forget to measure its thickness. As soon as the new product is made, you can start installing it.

Note that the glass unit is installed on plastic plates. If you are changing a blind window, then the plates installed at the bottom will be enough. If this is a sash, then the plates must be placed on each side in the corners, stepping back 10 cm from them. We draw attention to the fact that by placing a certain number of plates, you change the geometry of the sash. Therefore, be careful at this stage.

What problems does the owner of plastic windows most often face?

• problems with installing the opening limiter, replacing a broken handle;
• the handle is jammed;
• repair of the Winkhaus fittings blocker;
• the handle does not turn completely;
• blowing out from under the seal;
• a double-glazed window is broken.

If you need to install an opening limiter or replace a broken handle, try to repair metal-plastic windows with your own hands:

1. Rotate the plate at the base of the handle 90 degrees. There are the fastening screws. Armed with a screwdriver, remove them, remove the old handle and screw the new one with the same screws.
2. To install the plastic "comb", place the ventilator regulator plate under the handle base. And remember that the low price of the hardware can indicate the same low quality.

When the sash is open, it is impossible to close the window, since the handle is down and does not turn. The blocker accidentally triggered, the handle is locked in an unnatural position.

Determine the brand of fittings, the name should be present on the metal lock.

1. "AUBI". In the area of ​​the handle sticks out a thin metal plate equipped with a spring. Press down firmly against the seal with your finger and try to turn the handle.

Nothing happened? See how the sash is positioned. It should be vertical. When the sash is at an angle, the upper bollard will continue to restrict the rotation of the handle. Align the sash and press the plate against the seal. The handle will turn easily and the window will close.

1. Roto, Winkhaus, GU. There should be a metal tab below the handle, angled to the frame. The actions are practically the same as those described above. Press down on the protruding tongue with your finger. In doing so, it will stand parallel to the sealing rubber. Turn the handle.
2. Malfunctions may appear due to thermal deformation that has occurred due to a significant temperature difference outside the window and inside the repaired room. In this case, the tongue will slide past the counter element and the handle will not turn. After opening the window, find a metal part on which the tongue should hit when moving. Unscrew one or two screws in the counter piece and place a thin washer between it and the frame. The adhesion of the blocker to the counterpart will be restored.

Adjustment of plastic windows with Roto fittings

Often it is necessary to repair the fittings of the plastic windows of the Winkhaus system. In particular, the handle rotation lock installed in the swing-out scissors.

Due to friction, the lock is susceptible to rapid wear, as a result, the fittings do not want to be locked.

Note! Turning the knob is only possible in the "open" position or upward for ventilation.

Forcing can break the main lock gearbox, so use caution with a screwdriver and pliers.

With their help, remove the decorative cap from the upper hinge and remove the pin. Having lowered the sash to the floor, twist the screws that secure the fittings, remove the scissors. Remove the blocker, screw the scissors into place and do the whole work in reverse order.

As a rule, there are two reasons for the problem - drying out of the grease and sagging of the sash.

When the grease dries, use a universal penetrating grease, treating all moving parts, pay special attention to the upper corner drives.

If the use of grease does not work, turn the hinge adjusting screws. Remove the decorative cover from the bottom hinge and try to lift the sash while tightening the screw located inside the hinge. If the top corner of the sash hits the frame's counter bar, tighten the top hinge screw.

1. "Roto". There is a place in the middle of the frame striker plates for inserting a # 4 hex wrench. Turn the moving element in the desired direction.

Advice! Return the trunnion to its original position during the summer months as the sealing rubber wears out too quickly.

Blowing can occur due to improper installation of counterparts on the frame. Reposition the striker plates by moving the bar lower so that the roller is fully under the plate.

The reason for the strong blowing of a structure with a bend in the profile can be hidden in poor-quality installation carried out before the start of the repair in the room or in the fall of straightening plates installed between the profile and the glass unit in the middle of the sash. It is possible that the defect was allowed during production, and the plates were not installed at all.

Repairing old windows is best done with a hard trowel or chisel. Lean the tool against the junction of the profile and glazing bead and detach the glazing bead with a light blow.

Check the straightening plates located between the sash and frame. In addition, you need to install plastic plates in the middle, moving the sash away from the glass unit by 3-5 mm.

For the manufacture of the plate, a school ruler is quite suitable, with a width not less than the thickness of the glass unit. One of the edges of the improvised plate should not rest against the inside of the glass, since a crack may form on the glass unit.

The same chisel will help to move the profile away from the glass unit. Place it on the glass side of the plastic spacer. First, move the sash 3 mm and try to close the window. Add another 3 mm if necessary.
