Attention: The shredder is intended for disposal of food waste ONLY! It is forbidden to recycle glass, metal, plastic, rubber, cloth products, threads, hair, as well as chemicals and agents intended for cleaning the sewage system (acidic, alkaline, biochemical)

Waste shredder jammed today. With the service key, he could not turn it in one direction, not a degree.

I decided to disassemble. Since I did not find photos, I publish a brief instruction on and a photo report.

  1. Disconnect electricity, pneumatic button.
  2. Loosen the attachment to the sink with the service key and remove the disposer.
  3. Remove the sealing rubber over the washer attaching to the suspension and remove the washer itself.
  4. Unscrew the bolt securing the drain pipe and remove the pipe.
  5. Pull off the rubber band from above and press the antennae with a screwdriver. fastening the upper part of the casing to the right and left. Then take it off.
  6. Turn the dispenser over and unscrew the two casing mounting bolts.Do not touch the two remaining bolts, as they are more than 10 cm long and then it is very difficult to put them in place.
  7. Remove sound insulation.
  8. Remove the 3 bolts connecting the top and bottom of the crushing chamber.
  9. Carefully detach the two parts of the crushing chamber in a circle.

The cause of the jam turned out to be a piece of rather thick steel wire stuck between the grooves of the moving part and the top of the crusher. It is impossible to see and eliminate such a malfunction without disassembly.

Buyers want to know the purpose of the food waste disposer. When washing dishes and vegetables with fruits, particles of household waste may enter the sink drain. To avoid pushing them manually, you need a food waste disposer. This avoids getting your hands dirty and clogging the sink siphon. Some users feel that the device is dangerous in everyday use. The device is designed in compliance with all safety requirements. The design provides for the presence of a protective fence and a special pusher to prevent injury. Most of the fears of using shredders are unfounded. They have a simple structure and allow you to repair them yourself with minimal knowledge of the design.

The household waste shredder is a massive cylindrical body with a motor and is suspended under the sink, replacing the siphon. The device will allow you to turn household waste into a paste, which is washed off by running water into a drain. In terms of dimensions, a household waste shredder is the size of a bottle of drinking water available on the shelves of a supermarket. The mass is also approximately equal. It is important for homeowners to know the dimensions of the appliance in order to understand the space available for mounting the shredding device.

This unit is installed under the sink instead of a siphon using a standard plumbing connection.

Installation of shredders in the case of steel sinks does not require the use of special tools. If the dimensions do not match, the drain hole is expanded to the desired size. Do it yourself or invite a master. After that, the installation is carried out according to the instructions. Self-repair of the device is possible when familiarizing with its design and performing actions in accordance with the technical documentation of the device.

Features of food waste disposers:

The product enters the grinder and is broken into a fine porridge by cams fixed to a rotating disc. If metal parts, foreign objects or a wedding ring get inside the working unit, turn off the device to avoid damage to it. The shredder is difficult to damage. The body is made of elastic plastic resistant to shock loads and other mechanical influences.

It is required to familiarize yourself with the main structural elements of the grinding mechanisms for self-repair.

  • Most of the devices belong to the I class of electrical safety. The power wire is equipped with a grounding terminal (three pins in foreign versions). When connecting, you must observe safety measures. The house requires a ground loop. The plastic housing of the grinder protects against electric leakage. The device should be inspected regularly for damage to the case. If threads with wire accumulate inside, then the sealing gland under the disc becomes unusable. Water begins to seep into the interior of the appliance. This will lead to a short circuit in the motor wiring, accompanied by its failure.
  • Performing verification operations to identify foreign objects in the shredding device begins with a visual inspection of the device. If you suspect a malfunction, you need to dismantle the shredder and clean it. For this, the device is disconnected from the power supply. A flashlight can be used to detect foreign parts and quarrels in the cooking compartment. In case of disc blocking, there is a way to manually turn the shaft by using a socket wrench. As a result of such manipulations, the problem can be eliminated and the mechanism restored to work.

  • A slight actuation of the pneumatic tube means that the tube is likely to be damaged. Localize the leak by any method and restore the integrity of the path. Take the trouble to use moisture resistant glue. Replacing the button will require some knowledge of the structure of the mechanism and experience in carrying out such operations.

If there are leaks, they must be repaired by using a special sealing material. This applies to the debris inlet and the dirty water outlet.

If there are children in the house, unplug the appliance from the outlet. Alternatively, provide a method to block the power consumption of the appliance. If children throw waste at the drain and turn on the water, it won't go away. This will encourage it to accumulate in the sink. An additional safety measure will be the installation of a leakage protection.

To skeptics, so many protective measures will seem superfluous. Ensuring the safety of human health is of prime importance. All recommended safety systems should be installed. Correct operation of the shredder will eliminate the occurrence of serious malfunctions and complex repairs. This will allow you to independently correct possible inconsistencies in the device. The interest in household shredders is growing. Spare parts for them are sold by specialized stores.

Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about the food waste disposer.

Q. Does the shredder require periodic maintenance?
No. The food waste disposer is designed in such a way that no maintenance is required. The best way to keep your shredder in good shape is to use it regularly. To keep the system clean, flush it with a moderate jet of cold water each time after use.

Q. What are the operating costs of a shredder?
The operating costs of any of our shredders are relatively low. Because InSinkErator® shredders shred waste quickly, they use less energy. Energy consumption for the operation of the grinder 0.55 l. forces during the month are equivalent to the consumption of one 100 W bulb for an hour. All shredders use very little water, but our InSinkErator® shredders have kept water consumption to an absolute minimum - the overall water consumption increase in a home with a shredder is only 0.04%.

Q. How long does it take to shred food waste?
Just a few seconds, depending on the amount and type of waste. When all the waste is crushed, the crushing chamber is empty and the jaws rotate freely, the character of the sound changes. After complete shredding of waste, turn off the shredder and run a jet of water for about 15 seconds to rinse out the crushing chamber. In this case, all adhering residues are washed off into the sewer.

Q. What if there is waste in the shredder?
Put some baking soda in it to freshen up the scent. For extra freshness, grind a few slices of lemon or other citrus fruits in the device for a few seconds without adding water. Don't use bleach!

Q. The chopper stopped working as if the power supply had been cut off.
The automatic overload protection may have tripped to prevent overheating of the motor. Turn off the power and check if any unexpected objects, such as metal kitchen utensils, etc., have fallen into the shredder. Then press the "reset" button on the bottom of the chopper. A simple push of a button starts the motor again. If power is still not being supplied, check that the power outlet is properly connected. Most buyers facing this problem simply have never heard of overload protection before.

V.The motor hums quietly, but the horizontal disc does not rotate.
Something is interfering with the rotation of the chopper disc. All models are supplied with a universal wrench. Insert the key and wiggle it back and forth; this should help remove the obstruction. To do this, unplug the device and insert the key into the special hole in the center of the chopper bottom. Spin the disc back and forth until the disc is free to rotate 360 degrees. Remove the key and press the red restart button.

B. The motor is running, the disc is spinning, but the waste does not go down the drain.
Switch off the power supply and check the crushing chamber. Check if the two metal cams on the disc can rotate 360 degrees. If they are stuck, try tapping on them with a wooden object.

Q. Do I need a special sink or even a new sink or kitchen?
No. The shredder will match a single or two-section sink made of stainless steel or other material. A standard hole with a diameter of 90 mm is of course ideal, because shredder, supplied with accessories for this hole size. However, for most non-standard bore sizes, we supply adapter flanges. Kitchen remodeling is the right time to think about convenience and hygiene and how to eliminate food waste. In addition, you can use the services of a kitchen installer to install the shredder. The shredder can also be installed under an existing sink / in an existing kitchen.

Q. What if I have a septic system in my home?
The presence of a septic system is not an obstacle. Septic systems require a certain amount of food waste to accelerate various biological reactions. A standard 1800 L septic tank is perfect.

Q. How noisy are the food waste disposers?
Surprisingly quiet ... Much quieter than you might think! The motors of the InSinkErator® models are particularly quiet, and some of them use special noise reduction technology.

Q. If my system breaks down, can I continue to use the sink?
Breakage is extremely unlikely, but if your shredder still stops working, you can continue to use the sink as usual. Water will flow smoothly through the holes in the disc into the drain, even if the shredder is not working.

Q. Is the shredder easy to install?
All models are supplied with detailed installation instructions, an under-sink kit and a drainage elbow. No special tools are required. If in doubt, seek the services of a professional. An InSinkErator® service company will be happy to install the shredder.

Q. Is the food waste disposer compatible with the sewer system in my city?
All sewerage systems are designed to receive waste water from houses. The effluent from the grinder consists of 70% water, its chemical composition is similar to other wastewater and, therefore, can be easily transported through any existing sewer system.

How does a food waste disposer work?
Many people get the impression that a food waste disposer uses blades or knives to chop and destroy food waste. In fact, there are no sharp knives in the device.
