A two-channel modulator is simpler and cheaper than two single-channel ones, since instead of four solenoid valves, only three are used, respectively, the number of power amplifiers in the electronic control unit is reduced. Installation of two-channel modulators on a car is less laborious.

    The implementation of seven modes of operation by the modulator makes it possible to carry out on its basis individual and modified individual regulation of two wheels. It should be noted that in any mode of operation of the modulator, voltage is applied to no more than two solenoid valves, thereby ensuring economical power consumption.

    The signal from each sensor passes through an RFI filter and feeds simultaneously to two processor circuits.

    After energizing, the ABS continuously performs self-diagnostics of serviceability and informs the driver about its results. The signal lamp lights up when voltage is applied and goes out only after checking the ABS functionality, if no malfunctions are found. First, each processor checks its own health by testing commands, and then they check each other. Sensors, solenoid valves and wire harness are also checked. When a malfunction occurs, the ABS is completely or partially turned off and the warning lamp on the instrument panel comes on. The malfunction code is stored in the control unit memory for a long time and can be requested during repair.

    Code output on request is carried out in two ways: by a diagnostic tester when it is connected to the control unit; flashing of the warning lamp, the number of flashes corresponding to the type of malfunction.
    When testing the ABS electronics, 900 possible failures were simulated, but the control unit always correctly identified them and carried out the corresponding shutdown of the system.
    The sequence of self-diagnostics of the ABS is as follows: first, the control unit is monitored, and then (after the start of movement) the serviceability of the sensors and solenoid valves is checked. The check is carried out during the entire time the vehicle is moving.

    A certain disadvantage of Knorr-Bremse ABS is the need to completely disable the system on the vehicle axle if only one wheel is faulty ABS elements. This is a consequence of using a common modulator for both wheels. For this reason, and also because of the difficulty of using a two-channel modulator in the system, Knorr-Bremse has now developed an ABS using single-channel modulators.
    Single-channel modulators are easier to place on the vehicle and allow the braking pressure of different wheels to be changed completely independently of each other. From this point of view, single-channel modulators are convenient for use in traction control systems. Knorr-Bremse fast acting membrane modulators are similar in design to the WABCO ABS modulator.
