I took out 5 heavy bags of tiles from the walls to the trash heap. As luck would have it, the elevator was not working.

Finally, we managed to clear the last wall of wallpaper. The war was fought for every centimeter: the hellish mixture of glue, which becomes terribly slippery from water, left me practically without hands.

The ceiling has already been made, the walls and furniture remain. I decided to leave the working area above the stove as it is.

And our ceilings are crooked. The door frame is level.

Having cleared the paint from the windowsill, I saw such a stunning color that my hand did not go up to paint it back. And I will choose the color of the laminate to match the color of the window sill.

He did all the work without assistants, the process took five part-time working days. The dimensions of our kitchen are 4.15 * 2.15m with a ceiling height of 2.5m. Before starting the repair, I figured out the scope of work and made a list of the necessary materials. It included:

- floor screed - 25kg;
- Fiberboard 130 * 170cm - 5 sheets;
- linoleum 2.5 * 4.5m;
- floor plinth - 10m;
- vinyl wallpaper 1.6m wide - 3 rolls;
- wallpaper glue - 1 pack.;
- tile adhesive - 1kg;
- grout for joints - 2kg;
- washable acrylic paint - 3L;
- wooden moldings - 10m;
- self-tapping screws, CPS, nails.

The amount and cost of materials is an individual matter and depends on the tasks assigned to you.
An important factor in repair work is the availability of the necessary tools. I needed:

- puncher;
- perforator attachment - whisk;
- paint brushes and rollers;
- rubber roller for wallpaper;
- spatulas: metal, rubber, comb-spatula.

Before starting work, it is necessary to clean the room of furniture and equipment, remove the box from the battery (if any). Ideally, work should be started in a completely empty kitchen, but in my case, it was decided to leave the hanging cabinets in place, because replacing the wallpaper behind them was not part of the plans.

The next step is to clean the walls from the remnants of old wallpaper. You can use a special wallpaper remover, or just soak the hard-to-give pieces with warm water, as I did. The most important thing is to have time to scrape off the wallpaper before it dries. I used a spatula to speed up the process.

The apron this time was not subject to replacement, but clearly needed restoration. I carefully collected the tiles that had fallen off and removed the tiles that were in doubt about their firmness.

I collected all the rubbish in bags and proceeded to dismantle the flooring. Skirting boards and linoleum were no longer good for anything and were scrapped, but I carefully removed the fiberboard, which acts as a substrate, and left it waiting in the wings.

I will make a reservation right away that I did not plan to level the walls and floors as part of the cosmetic renovation of the kitchen. But the dismantling work revealed misfortunes, to which I could not close my eyes.

Holes and obvious irregularities in the floor were repaired with a cement screed. I used the cheapest one.
Prepared mortar: water and cement screed, 1: 4 approximately. I mixed it well with a construction mixer (in my case it was a perforator with a special attachment).
For better adhesion, I moistened the floor with water.
He applied the solution to problem areas with rather sharp movements.
Gently leveled the mass with a spatula.

The restoration process included the restoration of the missing elements of the apron and the grouting of all seams.
First of all, I primed the walls where the missing tiles were attached. Note that the primer dries within 30 minutes. At this time, I prepared a glue for a tile (a solution of a mixture with water was thoroughly mixed with a mixer until the consistency of thick sour cream).

Then I laid the tiles (Read the detailed article on do-it-yourself grouting of tiles). The technology is as follows:

glue is applied to each tile with a spatula in a layer of about 5 mm;
Excess glue is removed with a comb-spatula;
the tile is applied to the wall and slightly pressed;
the position of the tiles is adjusted in level, observing the uniformity of the seams and edges.

Before grouting the joints, a time should pass sufficient for the tile glue to completely dry - at least a day (instructions for help). Grouting technology is also not difficult:

we collect a small amount of grout mixture on a rubber spatula;
press it into the seam, holding the spatula slightly at an angle;
we remove the surplus.

The main thing in this business is not to hesitate, as the grout mixture dries quickly. For the same reason, I advise you to knead the mixture in separate small portions for each square meter.

After grouting, the old apron takes on an elegant look.

The front of our kitchen painting consisted of painting the ceiling, window opening, long shelf under the ceiling, doors and wall moldings. I used a super white acrylic washable paint. Painted with a roller and brushes of different widths - wherever it is convenient. To protect the glass on the door and window, I used masking tape, and covered the hanging cabinets with polyethylene. To satisfy the result, I had enough painting in two layers.

Traditionally, flooring work is left to the final stage of renovation.But our kitchen is distinguished by an intricate geometry of the walls (many ledges and corners) and an abundance of pipes extending into the floor. In order to avoid damage to the new wallpaper in the process of cutting linoleum, it was decided to break the classical sequence of actions.

To begin with, I covered the floor with fiberboard sheets. As the first layer, I used the sheets removed during the dismantling of the old floor, and in the second layer I laid the freshly acquired wood panel. I fixed it all with self-tapping screws (3.5 / 42mm). Laying fiberboard in two layers made it possible to achieve an even coating.

The area of the linoleum piece was slightly larger than the floor area. To cut the right size, I:

Unrolled linoleum.
Aligned the piece with a long wall without protrusions.
I cut the linoleum under the doorway.
Gradually cut the linoleum under all pipes and protrusions.

As a result, the linoleum lay flat, not going over the walls, repeating the perimeter of the room.

We decorated the walls in the kitchen with non-woven vinyl wallpaper. When gluing this type of wallpaper, a special glue is applied with a roller only on the wall. A prepared strip is applied to the wall generously smeared with glue (for the first strip on the wall, you can apply a line along the level) and roll it out well with a rubber roller. Excess glue, if necessary, can be removed with a dry soft cloth.

The design of our renovated kitchen involved gluing wallpaper in two levels - a light top and a dark blue bottom. When applying wallpaper in this way, it is best to start from the top.

To begin with, I cut out the required number of strips of light wallpaper 1.5 m long. I glued them in the above way, starting from the window.

I placed previously painted wooden moldings on the wallpaper joint strictly horizontally (by level) and fixed it with nails 6 cm long (if you wish, you can use liquid nails).

Advice: if there is any doubt that the floor in your apartment is laid strictly horizontally, then it is better not to use the level in this case. Draw a horizontal line for the location of the moldings in different places, measuring the height of 1 m from the floor. This is done because the furniture will stand on the floor and horizontal elements located on the wall may visually appear unevenly nailed.

The skirting boards were installed using the following technology:

I put the plinth against the wall.
With a puncher, I drilled holes in the wall right through the cable channel.
I drove HPS into the holes.
I screwed the plinth with self-tapping screws with a press washer.
