After several years of operation of Chevrolet Lacetti cars, suspension problems begin to appear. The main causes of suspension malfunctions:

  • poor condition of the road surface;
  • national characteristics of driving;
  • untimely maintenance.

Pay attention to the condition of the suspension, it is necessary to carry out a preventive inspection when the following signs of malfunction appear:

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline! Read more"

  • the appearance of extraneous noise (knocking, creaking, humming, etc.);
  • uneven steering effort;
  • inadequate suspension behavior while driving;
  • uneven tire wear;
  • squealing when cornering;
  • different steering efforts when turning left and right;
  • displacement of the trajectory of movement on a flat road.

Ball joint assemblies, hubs, struts are subject to the greatest wear. The ball joint must be replaced every 100 - 150 thousand kilometers. The difficulty of replacing the ball joint is complicated by the fact that it is riveted to the arm. In the hub assembly, the most problematic is the bearing. Despite the fact that the bearing has a long service life, given the state of the Russian highways, it can fail after 50,000 - 100,000 kilometers. Replacing the hub bearing is a complex technological operation.

A photo of an independent suspension is shown in the figure:

The car uses the classic MacPherson suspension scheme. The main load when driving on uneven road surfaces falls on the shock absorber struts, which absorb vibrational energy. In the Chevrolet Lacetti, a gas-filled hydraulic shock absorber is used.

The shock absorber strut consists of 11 components (article 4564584).

In the process of servicing the shock absorber strut, the technical condition of the shock absorber, spring, and thrust bearing is checked. Routine work involves replacing the upper and lower gaskets.

The attachment points of the subframe are shown in the figure: Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repair

The attachment points of the subframe to the lever - 1 and 3, the stabilizer - 5, the steering gear - 6. The ball joint is attached with 3 rivets to the lever. When carrying out the diagnosis of the suspension, the condition of the fasteners, the degree of tightening of the bolts and nuts, the integrity of the subframe (no traces of significant corrosion) must be checked.

Place of attachment of the steering rod end - 1, to the shock absorber bracket - 5, to the brake shoe guide - 6, ball bearing pin - 8. Place of installation of the wheel speed sensor - 2. When carrying out repair work, it is sometimes advisable to change the design of the steering knuckle assembly. If such a replacement is made for a contract spare part, it should be inspected by a specialist before purchasing.

Chevrolet Lacetti rear suspension units (disassembled) are shown in the figure:

The main symptoms and causes of malfunction, diagnostic methods and methods of troubleshooting, repair are given in the table:

It is quite obvious that any part of the Chevrolet chassis must be in good condition. This is especially true of the suspension, since, unlike the engine, which can fail and the Chevrolet Lacetti simply will not go further, the breakdown of some suspension elements while driving can lead to a serious accident.

1. In addition to the obvious safety, the chassis of the Chevrolet Lacetti is responsible for a comfortable ride and good handling. The most dangerous thing is that in this case there will be a high probability of loss of control, with the next collision with an obstacle that has arisen on the road. Only regular diagnostics of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis will help to avoid such a situation.

Diagnostics of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis includes checking the following elements:

  • springs and shock absorbers;
  • levers and supports (bearings from above, silent blocks from below);
  • Chevrolet Lacetti stabilizer bushings;
  • steering rods and rack;
  • wheel bearings;
  • CV JOINT.

2. For experienced Chevrolet Lacetti owners, it is not difficult to determine the malfunction in the suspension. Experience will tell them what the problem is by the sound and its source. Plus, the most common suspension faults sound pretty much the same in all cars.

Diagnostics of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis should be carried out regularly, even without showing any hints of a malfunction. It is better to do this on a lift, but it can also be done on an ordinary flyover or observation pit.

3. It is important to remember how the Chevrolet Lacetti behaves in good condition, then any malfunction in the future will be obvious. To understand that something is wrong with a car, you do not need to be an experienced driver, and even more so, an auto mechanic.

Most often, the following signs of malfunctions of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis occur:

  • the sudden appearance of noise, knocking, bouncing of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis, which can both disappear and remain even on a completely flat road;
  • too large rolls when cornering and noticeable swaying of the body when passing bumps or when braking;
  • arbitrary steering to the side, the Chevrolet Lacetti leads away when driving straight;
  • uneven tire wear.

4. Most often you can hear exactly the knock of the Chevrolet Lacetti suspension, it indicates that the rubber elements are worn out or the fasteners that hold them are loose. There are a lot of rubber elements in the chassis, by and large, almost any Chevrolet Lacetti suspension unit can knock, as a result, in order to accurately identify the cause of the knock, the car must be inspected from below.

If you hear a crunch, especially when cornering or with a sharp acceleration of the Chevrolet Lacetti, then we can say with almost complete certainty that the reason lies in a malfunction of the Chevrolet Lacetti CV joint, the so-called grenade. A squeak most often occurs after replacing the stabilizer bushings, often this indicates a poor-quality bushing.

5. If the Chevrolet Lacetti began to drift aside, more often it happens after the hard passage of holes and potholes, then you may have to do similarity disorder (wheel alignment of the Chevrolet Lacetti). At best, this will eliminate the trouble; at worst, something could bend upon impact, starting from the steering rod and ending with the steering knuckle.

If at least one of these signs occurs, it is necessary to diagnose the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis as soon as possible.Even the regulations explicitly prohibit operation with a faulty suspension, not to mention the fact that it is simply dangerous.

6. A Chevrolet Lacetti suspension silent block not replaced in time, which is not so expensive, can lead to a lever breakage, with a price tag of one hundred dollars. Many drivers drive without paying attention to the sounds that appear in the chassis of the Chevrolet Lacetti, and drive until the sound becomes completely critical, or until something simply falls off, this approach is simply absurd.

7. Periodic visual inspection of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis will help save money, after all, if you find a cracked boot or cover in time and make a prompt replacement, then the element that was protected by the boot will last longer. If, when examining the Chevrolet Lacetti, an already torn boot was found, then you can be sure that soon this suspension element will need to be replaced.

After checking all the anthers, you should start diagnosing the front suspension elements of the Chevrolet Lacetti. The front suspension is more complex than the rear, it is subject to heavy loads, as a result, it breaks much more often. First, we inspect the shock absorbers of the Chevrolet Lacetti; they should not have dents or oil leaks. You can also try to swing the shock absorber to the sides, the swing amplitude should be insignificant.

But the easiest way to check the serviceability of this suspension element is to swing the Chevrolet Lacetti by pressing the corner where the shock absorber to be diagnosed is located. If, after pressing, the Chevrolet Lacetti, having returned to its original state, continued swinging up and down, then this indicates a shock absorber malfunction.

8. Next, the springs of the chassis of the Chevrolet Lacetti are examined, often their turns break off, so you need to inspect them for cracks and the integrity of all turns. But here you can also determine the functionality of the springs without looking under the car. To do this, you just need to pay attention to the clearance of the Chevrolet Lacetti, if the car has become noticeably lower, then this already indicates a malfunction of the springs, they sagged and can no longer perform their function properly.

9. Ball and silent blocks are checked only from the side of the Chevrolet Lacetti bottom. To diagnose them, it is better to use some kind of metal lever to make it easier to check everything for backlash, they should not be in a working car. In the same way, the stabilizer and link supports of the Chevrolet Lacetti are checked. To check the wheel bearing, you need to shake the wheel, if there is a play, this indicates a poor condition of the bearing.

The rear suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti is independent, assembled on a stretcher. Each wheel is suspended on a longitudinal and two wishbones, the shock absorber and the spring are installed coaxially, forming a telescopic shock absorber strut, which allows the rear wheel to move up and down when driving over irregularities and at the same time dampen body vibrations.

The anti-roll bar reduces the roll of the vehicle.

Fig. 43. Rear suspension Chevrolet Lacetti

The shock absorber strut of the rear suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti consists of a telescopic strut in which a hydraulic gas-filled double-acting shock absorber is installed, a coil spring, a compression travel buffer and an upper rubber-metal support.

The spring rests on the spring cups through rubber pads.The shock absorber rod is connected to the upper support, which is attached to the rear wheel arch with three nuts.

Due to its elasticity, the support allows the strut to swing during suspension travel and dampens vibrations when driving over small irregularities. A bracket is welded to the lower part of the strut body for attaching to the forged knuckle of the rear suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti.

The knuckle seat includes a cylindrical hub girdle, and its flange is bolted to the knuckle flange. The hub is a non-separable unit with a bearing and an anti-lock braking system wheel speed sensor.

1 - stretcher; 2 - rear transverse lever; 3 - front transverse arm; 4 - the spring of the shock absorber; 5 - telescopic rack; 6 - anti-roll bar; 7 - fist; 8 - longitudinal lever; 9 - bracket; 10 - bracket; 11 - the bar of the anti-roll bar

The braking forces when the vehicle is moving are perceived by the trailing arms, and the forces in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle are perceived by the wishbones.

To ensure the mobility of the levers in the joints with the body and steering knuckles, silent blocks are pressed into the lugs of the Chevrolet Lacetti levers. The front end of the trailing arm is attached to the bracket fixed to the body, and the rear end to the knuckle eyelet.

Each wishbone is attached at one end to the knuckle eyelet and at the other end to a subframe attached to the body.

The bolt of the front wishbone to the subframe has an eccentric belt and an eccentric washer, and the bolt hole in the subframe is oval. Turning the bolt changes the position of the lever relative to the subframe, thereby adjusting the toe-in of the wheel.

To increase lateral stability and reduce roll angles of the Chevrolet Lacetti, an anti-roll bar is installed.

The stabilizer bar in its middle part is fastened with brackets through rubber split pads to the body.

The rods of the Chevrolet Lacetti stabilizer struts are made of polymer material, and ball bearings are made at the ends of the rods. The stabilizer struts connect the ends of the stabilizer bar to the telescopic struts.

Removing the shock absorber strut of the rear suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti and its disassembly

We remove and disassemble the strut of the Chevrolet Lacetti shock absorber when it is necessary to replace its upper support, telescopic strut, spring or its rubber gaskets, compression travel buffer.

To access the upper mount of the shock absorber strut on a hatchback vehicle, simply remove the luggage compartment trim from the side of the strut to be dismantled.

We loosen the tightening and turn off the three nuts securing the upper support of the pillar to the mudguard of the body by several threads of the thread. On a Chevrolet Lacetti car with a sedan body, fold both parts of the rear seat back forward.

Using a slotted screwdriver, pry off the plastic cover so as to separate the piston. Separating the piston on the other side, remove the trim. Disconnect the other piston in the same way and bend the pad within the elastic range.

We take out the soundproofing insert. In a confined space, it is more convenient to unscrew the nuts securing the upper support of the rack with a ratchet with a head. Further, the sequence of works for Chevrolet Lacetti cars with bodies of both types is the same.

Having raised it with a jack, we securely fix the car on a factory-made support stand and remove the wheel. We unscrew the nut that secures the ball bearing of the anti-roll bar to the shock absorber strut housing.

Overcoming the resistance of the stabilizer, squeeze the end of its rod down with a mounting spatula and remove the ball bearing pin of the Chevrolet Lacetti stabilizer strut from the hole in the strut housing. After removing the locking bracket, we remove the brake hose coupling from the rack lug.

We unscrew the nuts of the two bolts securing the shock absorber strut bracket to the rear suspension knuckle, keeping the bolt heads from turning with a wrench of the same size. We take out the bolts or knock them out with a soft metal drift. We remove the fist from the rack bracket.

Supporting the shock absorber strut of the front suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti, completely unscrew the three nuts securing the upper strut support to the body mudguard and remove the strut.

We take out the plug from the socket of the upper support of the rack. Supporting the rack, slightly grip the edges of the upper support body in a vice.

On a Chevrolet Lacetti car, before disassembling the strut, there is no need to compress the spring with ties, since the length of the thread of the shock absorber rod is sufficient so that when the rod nut is unscrewed, the spring is not fully compressed.

To unscrew the stem nut, put a high head on the nut, and pass the extension through the head hole and put the head on the stem hex. We rotate the high head counterclockwise, holding the stem from turning with the other head.

As the nut of the Chevrolet Lacetti shock absorber rod is loosened, we control the moment when the spring stops pressing on the support cups - while the upper cup with the spring can be easily rotated relative to the upper strut support. After that, completely unscrew the nut and disassemble the rack.

If the nut is unscrewed almost to the end of the thread of the shock absorber rod, and the spring has not fully expanded, then it is necessary to compress the spring coils with ties until its pressure on the support cups is completely relaxed and only then completely unscrew the nut.

Remove the upper strut support, spring cup with upper gasket, spring, protective cover, compression travel buffer and lower spring gasket. Before assembling the shock absorber, we check the serviceability of its elements.

When the Chevrolet Lacetti shock absorber rod is recessed and extended by hand, there should be no failures, jams and jerks. The stem mirror should be free of nicks, traces of severe wear and corrosion, and hydraulic fluid should not leak through the stem seal.

The spring of the rack should not have excessive settlement and broken coils. The upper support of the rack should be replaced in case of significant deformation of its rubber mass or its detachment from the reinforcement.

The rubber gaskets of the spring must not have any breaks or traces of strong wear. The compression travel buffer must not be deformed.

We replace damaged and heavily worn parts with new ones. We assemble the front shock absorber strut of the Chevrolet Lacetti in reverse order.

When installing the lower spring gasket, its figured profile should coincide with the profile of the support cup of the strut body, the lower coil rested against the gasket protrusion.

We put the upper spring gasket on the upper support cup and install it on the spring so that the upper coil of the spring rests against the gasket protrusion. In this case, the holes in the upper and lower support spring cups must be located one below the other.

When installing the Chevrolet Lacetti shock absorber strut, we attach the nuts securing its upper support to the body, but do not tighten them. Then we attach the strut to the rear axle knuckle, and the anti-roll bar to the strut bracket.

Removing the front wishbone Chevrolet Lacetti

We remove the Chevrolet Lacetti suspension arm for replacement when it is deformed, as well as in case of damage (tears, rubber peeling) or strong wear of the silent blocks.

Lever replacement operations are shown on the right side of the vehicle. On the left side of the car, replace the lever in the same way.

We hang out and remove the wheel from the side of the dismantled lever.Remove the anti-lock braking system wheel speed sensor wiring harness cover from the front transverse arm and disconnect the wiring harness block from the speed sensor.

In order not to change the wheel toe angle during assembly, before unscrewing the nut of the bolt attaching the Chevrolet Lacetti lever to the subframe, mark the position of the bolt relative to the subframe with a chisel.

Using the head, unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the subframe, keeping the bolt from turning with a spanner of the same size.

Remove the eccentric washer from the bolt shaft and take out the bolt. We unscrew the bolt securing the lever to the rear suspension knuckle and take out the bolt. Remove the front wishbone.

We install the front wishbone of the Chevrolet Lacetti in the reverse order, orienting it so that the silent block with a notch on the end surface of the metal bushing is facing the fist.

We wrap, but do not completely tighten the bolt securing the lever to the knuckle and the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the subframe. In this case, we install the bolt for attaching the lever to the subframe according to the previously applied marks and hold it in this position when tightening the nut.

We orient the nut of the lever fastening bolt to the subframe with the collar towards the rear of the car. Finally, tighten the bolt of the lever to the knuckle and the nut of the bolt of the lever to the subframe. After installing the lever, we check and, if necessary, adjust the toe angles of the rear wheels.

Removing the rear wishbone Chevrolet Lacetti

We hang out and remove the wheel from the side of the dismantled lever. We unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the subframe, keeping the bolt from turning with a spanner of the same size.

With a spanner wrench, we unscrew the bolt securing the lever to the fist of the rear suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti. In this case, it is not necessary to hold the square nut of the bolt, since the protrusion on the fist prevents it from turning. We take out the bolt.

Remove the rear wishbone Chevrolet Lacetti. Install the lever in reverse order. Since the two eyes of the lever for the silent blocks are welded to its rod at different angles, the lever is mounted in only one position.

If the lever is installed incorrectly, it cannot be secured. We wrap, but do not completely tighten the bolt securing the lever to the knuckle and the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the subframe. Finally, tighten the connections to the prescribed torques.

The suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti car provides stability and stable position of the vehicle. Therefore, it should be checked more often, it is best if it is a specialized car service. According to the recommendations of the manufacturers, the chassis of the Chevrolet Lacetti must be checked once every 10,000 km, but this is when driving on a flat road.

In the condition of domestic asphalt, as well as in the presence of dark areas, moving along which you can get a wheel into a hole or run into a speed bump, inspection is required more often. It happens that after another collision with an obstacle or falling into a hole, the suspension parts of the Chevrolet Lacetti begin to emit sounds. This happens more often at bends. In order not to worry about how long the car will travel to a full stop, it is better to conduct an inspection and know what is what - to repair or change.

In a car service, you can qualitatively, quickly and inexpensively repair or replace parts of the front suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti. This car brand is very popular among drivers because it is affordable and inexpensive to maintain. Therefore, repairs are carried out frequently and the craftsmen have extensive experience.

Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repair

Driving on domestic roads first of all wears out the chassis of the Chevrolet Lacetti, which makes itself felt with suspicious noises from under the body. In order to prevent breakdowns while driving on the highway at speed, if a knock occurs, it is necessary to diagnose the suspension - preferably front and rear.Determination of a breakdown does not take much time, as it is carried out using lifting equipment.

To make a good repair of the Chevrolet Lacetti front suspension, a combination of three factors is necessary:

  • good master;
  • modern equipment;
  • quality details.

All this can only be found in the service. At the same time, the price for service is lower than in official dealerships.

The car service carries out the following types of repairs to the chassis of the Chevrolet Lacetti:

  • Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repairrepair and replacement of front suspension parts;
  • rear suspension repair;
  • overhaul and replacement of parts of the front and rear struts.
  • if the workshop offers its own parts, then they have supporting documents and a guarantee;
  • the Chevrolet repair process is usually completed, because after replacing parts, it is necessary to adjust the wheel alignment, which is done in the presence of special repair equipment;
  • repairing the front suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti takes a minimum of time, because the craftsmen have experience and knowledge, therefore, they work quickly;
  • during the inspection of the Chevrolet Lacetti chassis, a specialist may notice other malfunctions that are not related to the chassis and fix them in time, which will save the driver's time and money.

Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repair

Most of the problems are related to the shock absorber strut. When disassembling, check all parts for wear.
  1. The spring should not give excessive settlement and broken coils.
  2. Worn rubber parts are replaced with new ones.
  3. The deformed levers of the rear suspension of the Chevrolet Lacetti - front, rear and transverse must be replaced.
  4. Worn out silent blocks require replacement, otherwise the car will be unstable while driving. Also, silent blocks affect the rapid wear of tires.

The algorithm for replacing or repairing the rear suspension of the Lacetti Sedan or in the station wagon is the same.

What you should pay attention to when operating a Chevrolet car:

  • body movements are felt - swaying or subsidence - this means that the shock absorbers are not doing their job, the stabilizer bar is broken or flew off the mountings;
  • Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repairvibrations (tremors) of the body are caused by imbalance of the wheels or low tire pressure (it is necessary to pump up), wheel bearings or shock absorbers are worn out, loose disc mounts also cause shaking while driving;
  • malfunctions in the stabilizer bar, springs cause knocking;
  • the difference in the pressure of the tires, which are located on the same axle, can cause the Chevrolet Lacetti body to tilt to one side;
  • different stiffness of the springs on the front or rear suspension causes impacts on one side when hitting a hole or depression;
  • unadjusted parallelism of the front and rear axles leads to the fact that the Chevrolet Lacetti car does not keep a straight line well - the car leads to the side.

Drivers are often faced with a problem such as rapid tire wear. This means that the pressure in them exceeds the norm (it is believed that the increased pressure in the tires saves fuel). Wheels need to be tested. If this is not the reason, then the tire tilt angles are poorly adjusted, which may well be if the repair was carried out by a non-professional technician in anti-technical conditions. On examination, it may turn out that the rubber has dents and protrusions at low mileage. This means that certain areas receive more stress while driving and are damaged more quickly. This also requires careful adjustment of the wheel angles.

The consequences of unprofessional repairs can be the installation of discs with varying degrees of wear, which is unacceptable on the Chevrolet Lacetti, as it can lead to an accident on the road.

When diagnosing the front suspension of a Chevrolet Lacetti car using a visual inspection and equipment, you can identify the following problems:

  • Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repairdeformation of the levers;
  • loose or cracked spring;
  • damaged shock absorber support or violation of its tightness;
  • wear of rubber parts due to external factors - humidity and temperatures;
  • dust ingress into ball joints and premature wear.

During the inspection, the running foreman preliminarily assesses the degree of breakdown and the need for repair or replacement of individual parts. After the owner agrees with the master's work plan, repairs begin. Particular attention must be paid to the state of the chassis if the Chevrolet Lacetti has been in an accident. In a side impact, the geometry of the body could be slightly disturbed, which in any case will affect the ride quality. It is possible to straighten the side members and check the parallelism of the lines using visual sensors in 1 hour, it is not expensive, but after carrying out this procedure, half of the problems will go away from the chassis.

Image - Lacetti DIY suspension repair

At first glance, it seems that the repair of the Lacetti suspension and diagnostics in the service are much more expensive than that of private craftsmen. To assert this, it is necessary to inquire about the level of technical equipment of a car service and a home garage.

Any work on the Chevrolet Lacetti repair must be checked using a computer so that it is completed, and the owner does not have to look for another service. As in any organism, the processes of the car's systems are interconnected, therefore, when checking, another problem may be discovered that will require additional replacement or repair. Therefore, comprehensive maintenance and repair of a Chevrolet Lacetti car will cost more.

Carrying out repairs on a Chevrolet Lacetti in a specialized service gives the owner an additional privilege in the form of a warranty card for repairs and the quality of parts. In case of unforeseen situations, the owner has the right to return to the master and discuss a solution to the problem.

Recently, from my family (Saxon) I switched to a kayaba. By eye + 20% in terms of hardness. The control in turns at speed is much better, the roll is less, but damn the fifth point you feel of each a policeman and a bump (I am silent about the pits). Relatives forgave most of this. Think - do you need it? Now I am thinking of returning to the Saxons or my relatives.

As a person who drives in the provinces on (I can't call “this” by roads) a coating made of everything that can be glued instead of asphalt, I will say this:
- were relatives - comfort at a height;
- the kayaba was in front - rigid;
- Saxon in a circle - VERY cool, perfect balance of comfort / handling;
- God in a circle - VERY hard, FSUs on handling, there is no comfort (well, IMHO, of course).

Each has its own sensitivity of the fifth point, but my wife also travels, and of course the children also ride.
After 50 thousand I will put the Saxons
More than 50-60 thousand on our roads, I do not care for anything. (

Denya, Sex and God are the same .. There is no difference in stiffness .. Maybe it seems subjective?

In terms of mileage, Andrey Korolyov (nickname korolyov, he told me) has Boge's backside about 70-75, like, in front of almost 100 thousand.

Galerion, for the station wagon makes ONLY the original (GM). Kayaba, Saks, etc., including Mando (they are numbered even for a station wagon, in fact inside for a sedan) - everything is done only for a sedan / hatch.

Video (click to play).

On the harshness have already spoken out .. Kayaba is really tougher.
