So, a flatbed tent car on small wheels, with a Mazovian cabin and a carrying capacity of 5 tons - "Zubrenok".
How did the Soviet auto industry differ from the foreign one? Lack of machines with low loading height. The first domestic truck of this type was the Nizhny Novgorod "Gazelle" with a carrying capacity of 1.5 tons. Then the Zilovsky "Bychok" with a carrying capacity of 3 tons appeared. the program of the plant, traditionally focused on the production of full-size two-axle vehicles, became a kind of sensation.
The machine is intended for use in urban and suburban transportation as a delivery vehicle. Despite the rather decent carrying capacity and dimensions, it turned out to be quite maneuverable, as can be judged by the turning radius of 7.8 m with an overall length of over 7 m.Our modification is equipped with a 136 hp diesel engine of the D-245 family, equipped with a turbo intermediate air cooling. The gearbox is zilovskaya. The cab is standard Mazovian, but the bridges, frame, suspension and wheels are original. The cab is almost rigidly attached to the frame, but despite this and thanks to the front suspension, the comfort in the driver's seat while driving is very good. With the air-sprung seat, the car looks very nice in terms of ride comfort.
But from the point of view of noise and vibration, it does not look so beautiful anymore. Vibration from the engine is annoying when operating at all speeds less than 1,700–1,800 min -1. And only at a higher rotational speed, the vibration disappears and a sensation of movement appears as in a normal car. Apparently, it affects that the engine was created for a tractor, on which, along the way, served as the frame of the entire machine, respectively, and balanced it just enough so that it could not shake the five-ton structure. Here the situation is different.
The car is "shod" in tires with a landing diameter of 17.5 inches - the size for our cars is quite rare. Although domestic tire factories have already started producing tires of this dimension. An example is our car, it has tires 235 / 75R17.5 of the Yaroslavl plant, model Ya-478. Before the appearance of domestic rubber, MAZ was supplied by Continental. By the way, cars with low loading height have problems with tire mileage. For example, 16-inch tires on "Bychka" rarely last more than 30 thousand km. For a truck, this, you see, is very small. Zubrenok does not have such a problem. True, there is another - the resource of the rear axle gearbox.
According to information received from the official dealers of the Minsk Automobile Plant, engaged in the implementation and maintenance of MAZ-437040, the gearbox resource does not exceed 100 thousand km. The plant is aware of this problem and is intensively working to solve it. Hopefully it will be filmed soon.
We will not describe the driver's workplace in detail - it is the same as on any MAZ, since the cab is the same.
Having received the car, having familiarized ourselves with everything necessary for driving, we start and set off on the road to the Dmitrovsky auto-polygon. While driving, we immediately discover that there is a problem with gear shifting. Especially with the inclusion of fourth gear. There is no clear delineation of gear selection moves along the lines: first-reverse, second-third and fourth-fifth. Perhaps this is out of habit, and you will be able to quickly get used to it.
Having reached the landfill, having equipped the car with the necessary equipment for measurements, we leave for testing an empty car. Having passed the route of imitation of city traffic on a typical winter, icy and snowy road, we can note that the gear selection mechanism in the box is extremely unsuccessful. It seems that the designers did everything possible to make the driver a magician when designing it. It was possible to find a common language with the gear lever, albeit with difficulty, but it was possible only because in childhood it was the magician's set that was the favorite game. Although from time to time the lever showed its temper, so skillfully embedded in it by the designers.
In top gear at speeds of 50-60 km / h, the vehicle in running order successfully copes with climbs on the route. But at the same time, there was a feeling that this mass of the car is the limit for the motor. Fuel consumption of 20.2 l / 100 km on such a road is not bad. The slightly lower average speed on the route is due to the slippery road surface, but not in any way bad dynamic properties.
Further, on the dynamometer road, we take off the fuel consumption in steady conditions, starting from the maximum speed that our car can develop on such a road (snow-covered and icy, the height of the snow cover in places reached 5 cm). The maximum speed is 98.4 km / h, which is quite good.
We return to the weighbridge, load the sum of 5,000 kg of ballast with the weight of the driver, equipment and operator and continue testing. For such a car, 5 tons is a kind of standard truck from the times of the Soviet Union. Then it was believed that the carrying capacity of an onboard truck is equal to its equipped weight.
Having left on the route of imitation of city traffic, we immediately felt the increase in the mass of the car. This, in the main, explains the decrease in the average speed on the route. The climbs had to be overcome in fourth gear at the same speeds, the acceleration rate fell, and on the rise of 4%, the third gear was required, and the maximum speed developed by the car on it was 15 km / h less than that specified in the test method. By the way, "Zubrenok" is not alone in this: most of the machines tested with full load overcome this rise at a speed lower than specified.
In general, the dynamics can be considered satisfactory for a loaded car. Next, we leave on the dynamometer road and take measurements similar to an empty car. With full load, the top speed dropped to 82.3 km / h, which is not surprising on such a surface. On clean asphalt, the speed would have been significantly higher, but the spring has not yet had time to come into its own, and our "baby" got a purely winter road. It also affected fuel consumption. On dry asphalt, they will be significantly less than with our measurements.
Having worked with the car for a week, we are pleased to say that, unlike the copies tested by our colleagues from other publications in previous years, our MAZ-437040 worked quite well and did not throw up any surprises with malfunctions. On the whole, the Zubrenok turned out to be a good onboard medium-duty vehicle. And for a relatively low price - a little more than 10 thousand euros - some "weaknesses" can be forgiven. The market also confirms that it is in good demand.
