Nissan March DIY engine repair

Details: nissan march do-it-yourself engine repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

The cars in question are equipped with 4-cylinder gasoline engines with a volume of 1.0, 1.2 or 1.4 liters. The engines are of the DOHC design (with two top camshafts and two valves per cylinder).

But the piston contains 2 compression rings and one oil scraper ring.

The crankshaft is housed in five main bearings.

The cylinder head is bolted to the block.

Two camshafts are located in the cylinder head and drive the valves through rocker arms attached to tappets with hydraulic valve clearances. The rocker arms transmit movement to the valves through needle-bearing rollers. The camshafts are driven from the crankshaft through a chain.

The oil pump is located in the front cover of the cylinder block and is driven directly by the crankshaft.

Components and diagram of the engine lubrication system

Before performing any maintenance on the engine, clean the engine compartment and exterior surfaces of the power unit with a proprietary solvent. This treatment will prevent dirt from entering the engine.

If necessary, determined by the nature of the work to be done, the hood can be removed in order to ensure freedom of access to the components to be serviced (see the chapter Body). Cover the fenders with special covers or old blankets to avoid accidental damage to the paintwork.

Excessive consumption of engine oil can be considered a signal to check the condition of the piston rings, valve stem seals and / or valve guides. Naturally, first of all, you should make sure that oil losses are not associated with the development of its external leaks. Check the compression in the cylinders (see chapter Engine Compression) to determine the general condition of the engine.

Video (click to play).

Loss of developed power, imbalance in rpm stability, excessive valve train noise and increased fuel consumption are usually common enough indications of an engine overhaul, especially when all of these factors occur at the same time. If performing the full range of adjustments does not help in fixing the problems, the only way out is to carry out general mechanical work to rebuild the engine.

Overhaul of the power unit implies the restoration of all its operating parameters to the level characteristic of a new engine. During the overhaul, the piston rings must be replaced and the cylinder mirrors restored (grooving and / or honing). Usually, the main and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft are replaced; if necessary, a groove and restoration of its journals can be made. It is imperative that the valves are serviced, the state of which at the time of the need for an engine overhaul almost certainly leaves much to be desired. In parallel with the general repair of the power unit, remanufacturing of the starter and generator is usually also carried out.

Engine overhaul does not require high professional training from the contractor, but it takes a lot of time. You should plan to stop using your vehicle for a period of at least two weeks, especially if you need to seek help from a machine shop for individual refurbishments.

Most of the work can be done using a conventional set of plumbing tools, but some of the checks to determine the suitability of individual components for further use require the use of precision measuring equipment. In doubtful situations, contact the service station specialists for help.

In conclusion, it can be noted that all efforts to carry out remanufacturing of worn out components will be wasted with a careless attitude to the requirement to maintain cleanliness during assembly of the unit.

conclusion: take a contract engine and that's it, cap. repair is impractical

The Nissan Micra, the smallest Nissan car, is assertive, fast-paced, smart and incredibly ambitious in nature. The previous generation Micra made a lot of noise in Europe.Introduced in 1992, the Nissan Micra became the first Japanese car to win the prestigious European Car of the Year competition, and secured a cloudless market life for ten years. And this is a very long time, unless, of course, you forget that the Nissan Micra is a small car of segment B, where model changes occur quite often. Today, the new generation Micra has every opportunity to continue the path of bearing the prestigious Car of Year 2003 title. 1.3 million cars have been sold in ten years.

According to preliminary information, the delivery for the Official dealers of segment B will be filled by Nissan Micra with engines of 1.2 liters (80 hp). and 1.4 liters (88 hp), while each of the engines is equipped with either a 5-speed manual transmission, or a 4-speed automatic.

The new Nissan Micra, presented at the 2002 Paris Motor Show, has become even smaller (by 30 millimeters), but wider-shouldered - its wheelbase has increased by seven centimeters, and its beauty and intelligence have increased many times over. Futuristic shapes, the most advanced high-tech stuffing, modern safety features have made the Nissan Micra a hit among compacts.

Excellent visibility, ease of parking in tight spaces, excellent maneuverability in heavy traffic, these are the advantages of this model over higher class cars. Despite the miсra dimensions on the outside, the interior space does not cause any discomfort. A rounded roof vault, comfortable front seats and moving rear seats allow you to sit quite freely.

The electronic access system allows you to do without keys. It is enough to have the Intelligent Key with you in the form of a keychain. The machine itself “recognizes” the owner when he approaches it. The door will be unlocked after pressing the door handle button. The engine also starts without a key.

The problem of limited space for rear passengers has been solved very interestingly. Their comfort is provided by the movable rear seat. Fully pushed back, it maximizes the space between the rows. Conversely, pushed forward increases the luggage compartment from 237 liters to 371 liters. Nissan Micra is also equipped with climate control (with the ability to manually change the settings), an on-board computer, an audio system (with steering wheel control), rain sensors.

As standard equipment, the Nissan Micra is equipped with two airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (brake force distribution system), Brake Assist (a system that provides maximum braking performance when the brake pedal is urgently pressed). Additionally, it is possible to install ESP (stability control system).

Micra is available in 3 and 5-door versions, with three types of gasoline and two - turbodiesel engines. Nissan Micra has three trim levels: Comfort, Tekna and Luxury.

You are certainly well done that you figured it out.
But I have two requests for you:

1. In the future, try to be more correct in your statements.
Jargon, you can use, but generally accepted and to the point.
I just did not have time in this topic. no need to find out in the subject
"Where and who is the cardan thicker and longer"

2. When writing posts on the forum, include spelling,
Posts with so many spelling errors are disrespectful to those who read.

The problem was not long in coming, and, as always, at the most inopportune moment, one fine day, while driving to the country house, the car stalled and refused to show further signs of life, the reason turned out to be quite simple: one of the wires going to the positive terminal of the battery dried up and burned out, identify this malfunction was not possible because it was very dark, so a tow truck had to be called.

2. Replacing the wiring-500 rubles

They took the car from the painting. We did it well. There were some problems. The headlight did not seem to be damaged, but the mounts were torn off and the master said to buy a new one. Ordered. Sent from a pre-styling march. It does not have a built-in turn signal; it is behind bars in the dorestayl. Changed to another. In general, the car is almost completed. It remains to put the washer reservoir, the hood cable (on the way). Find a plug on the bumper where the towing trick is screwed in (it didn't fit from our bumper - this bumper is from Micra), pick up the tumanki and install it.

One more year of operation has passed unnoticed (although even a little more). The machine runs all this time without any problems, without causing any special worries. Although there were a couple of unpleasant moments, only one of which I can hardly associate with the shortcomings of the machine itself. I will write about them in a little more detail, but for now, in order, a small report on the life of the car for the last year. Well, at the end there will be a small total for the car in three years.

So, summer 2016 we left without any problems. At the end of August, the next inspection passed without any problems, at which the diagnostician especially noted the condition of the machine - alive, without jambs, nothing rattles, does not creak.

The publication contains a manual for the operation, maintenance and repair of cars NISSAN Micra, March 1992-2002equipped with gasoline engines CG10DE, CG13DE.

The publication contains detailed instructions for maintenance, diagnostics, repair and adjustment of the engine, engine management system, manual transmission, continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), braking system (including anti-lock braking system ABS), steering, etc. Self-diagnosis procedures and fault codes for engine management systems, CVT and ABS, etc. are presented in detail. The information available in the manual will allow car owners to independently carry out competent maintenance of the car and not bring its condition to expensive repairs. In case of repair, this manual will serve as an indispensable tool for identifying and eliminating faults in all components of the car. A step-by-step and visual description of repair procedures, an abundance of drawings, extensive reference repair data will allow you to skillfully select options for replacing spare parts, make appropriate adjustments, body straightening, etc.

The book is intended for service station personnel, repair shops and car owners.

It is no secret for the Nissan driver March that the indicator on the dashboard "Check-Engene" is the Nissan malfunction signal. In a normal state, this icon should light up when the ignition is turned on, at this moment a check of all Nissan March systems begins, in a working car the indicator goes out after a few seconds.

If something is wrong with the Nissan March, then the "Check-Engene" does not go out, or it lights up again after a while. It can also blink, which clearly indicates a serious malfunction. This indicator will not tell the Nissan owner what exactly the problem is, it draws attention to the fact that a Nissan March engine diagnosis is required.

Since all foreign cars, not excluding the Nissan March, are tightly tied to electronics, a huge number of sensors monitor the operation of the car. Therefore, diagnostics of the Nissan March engine is, by and large, checking the most important unit of the car, with the exception of the suspension, which is checked mechanically.

There is a large number of specialized equipment for the Nissan March engine diagnostics. There are compact and fairly versatile scanners that not only professionals can afford.But there are times when conventional portable scanners do not detect malfunctions in the Nissan March engine, then diagnostics must be carried out exclusively with licensed software and a scanner from Nissan.

Nissan Diagnostic Scanner shows:

  • Throttle valve opening percentage;
  • Engine speed in rpm;
  • Nissan March engine temperature;
  • Voltage in the on-board network Nissan March;
  • The temperature of the air sucked into the engine;
  • Nissan March ignition timing;
  • Fuel injection time by the injector. Displayed in milliseconds;
  • Air flow sensor readings Nissan March;
  • Engine load;
  • Nissan March oxygen sensor readings;

Before diagnosing the Nissan March engine, you should listen to it, in normal condition it works quietly, monotonously, confidently keeps the speed. When you press the gas pedal, it smoothly, without jerking, picks up speed, without extraneous sounds. At the same time, the exhaust is practically invisible. Also, in a normal Nissan March engine, there can be no increased consumption of fuel and other fluids.

1. To diagnose the Nissan March engine, first of all, the engine compartment is inspected visually. A serviceable engine should not have any leaks of technical fluids, be it oil, coolant, brake fluid. In general, it is important to periodically clean the Nissan March engine from dust, sand, dirt, this is necessary not only for aesthetics, but also for normal heat dissipation!

2. Checking the oil level and condition of the Nissan March engine, the second step of testing. To do this, you need to pull out the dipstick, and also look at the oil by unscrewing the filler cap. If the oil is black, and even worse black and thick, then this indicates that the oil has changed for a long time.

If there is a white emulsion on the filler cap or you can see how the oil foams, then this may indicate that water or coolant has entered the oil.

3. Checking the Nissan March spark plugs. Remove all plugs from the engine; they can be checked one at a time. They must be dry. If the candles are covered with an insignificant layer of yellowish or light brown carbon deposits, then you should not worry, such carbon deposits are quite normal and permissible, and do not affect the work.

If there are traces of liquid oil on the Nissan March candles, then the piston rings or valve stem seals are likely to be replaced. Black carbon deposits indicate an over-enriched fuel mixture. The reason is improper operation of the Nissan fuel system, or a too clogged air filter. The main symptom will be increased fuel consumption.

Red plaque on Nissan March candles is caused by low-quality gasoline, which contains a large amount of metal particles (for example, manganese, which increases the octane number of the fuel). Such a plaque conducts current well, which means that with a significant layer of this plaque, the current will flow through it without forming a spark.

4. The Nissan March ignition coil does not often fail, most often this happens due to old age, insulation is damaged and a short circuit occurs. It is better to change the coils in accordance with the mileage according to the regulations. But it happens that a breakdown is caused by bad candles or punctured high-voltage wires. To check the Nissan coil, it must be removed.

After removal, you need to make sure that the insulation is intact, there should be no black spots or cracks. Next, a multimeter should go into the course, if the coil is burnt out, then the device will show the maximum possible value. You should not check the Nissan March coil using the old-fashioned method for the presence of a spark between the spark plugs and the metal part of the car. This method takes place in old cars, while on the Nissan March, due to such manipulations, not only the coil can burn out, but also the entire electrics of the car.

5. Is it possible to diagnose an engine malfunction by smoke from a Nissan March exhaust pipe? Exhaust can tell a lot about the condition of an engine.In the warm season, no thick or gray smoke should be visible from a serviceable car.

If white smoke is visible, then this may indicate a burnt-out gasket or leakage in the Nissan March cooling system. If the smoke is black, then at best these are problems due to an over-enriched fuel mixture. At worst, problems with the piston group.

If the smoke has a bluish tint, it indicates that the Nissan March engine is using oil. In the best case, it will require replacement of the valve stem seals, in the worst case, the repair of the piston group. All this fumes clog up and shorten the life of the Nissan March catalyst, which does not cope with cleaning such impurities.

6. Diagnostics of the Nissan March engine by sound. Sound is a gap, this is what the theory of mechanics says. There are gaps in almost all moving joints. This small gap contains an oil film that prevents parts from touching. But over time, the gap expands, the oily film can no longer be distributed evenly, friction of the parts of the Nissan March engine occurs, as a result of which very intense wear begins.

Each node in the Nissan March engine has a specific sound:

  • A loud, frequent sound heard at all engine speeds indicates the need to adjust the valves;
  • An even knock, which does not depend on the speed, is caused by the valve-distributor mechanism, which indicates the wear of its elements;
  • A distinct short knock, increasing at higher revs, warns of the imminent end of the connecting rod bearing.

This is only a small part of the possible sounds as a result of certain malfunctions. Every Nissan driver must remember the sound of a normally working engine in order to react quickly to any changes in it.

7. Diagnostics of the cooling system of the Nissan March engine. With proper operation of the cooling system and sufficient heat dissipation, after the engine starts, the liquid circulates only in a small circle through the stove radiator, which contributes to the rapid warming up of both the engine itself and the Nissan March interior in the cold season.

When the normal operating temperature of the Nissan March engine is reached (about 60-80 degrees), the valve opens slightly, i.e. the liquid partially flows into the radiator, where it gives off heat through it. In case of reaching the critical level under 100 degrees, the Nissan March thermostat opens to the full, and the entire volume of liquid passes through the radiator.

Together with this, the Nissan March radiator fan turns on, it contributes to better blowing out of hot air between the radiator cells. Overheating can damage the engine and require costly repairs.

8. Typical malfunctions of the Nissan March cooling system. If the fan does not work when the critical temperature is reached, then first of all it is necessary to check the fuse, then the Nissan March fan itself and the integrity of the wires to it are examined. But the problem may turn out to be more global, perhaps the temperature sensor (thermostat) is out of order.

The performance of the Nissan March thermostat is checked as follows: the engine is preheated, a hand is applied to the bottom of the thermostat, if it is hot, then it is in good working order.

More serious problems may arise: a pump failure, a leak or clogging of the Nissan March radiator, a broken valve in the filler cap. If problems arose after replacing the coolant, then most likely an air lock is to blame.

One of the most important and mandatory procedures when servicing a Nissan March is changing the engine oil. Influencing many running characteristics, carrying out such an operation significantly improves the operation of mechanisms. If you do not change the oil in Nissan March, then as a result of thickening of the engine oil and the ingress of foreign particles of dust, dirt or small chips into its composition, its performance begins to decrease, which can lead to the destruction of the car engine and the cost of engine overhaul.

The oil change period for Nissan March is every 5-10 thousand km, or 1 year. In this case, not only the running characteristics and the terms declared by the manufacturer must be taken into account.

The oil change interval for a Nissan March engine depends on the following factors:

  • the intensity of operation of the Nissan March;
  • technical condition of the engine;
  • seasonality (winter / summer);
  • the quality of the oil itself.

The old engine oil in the Nissan March is drained from the engine through the drain plug of the crankcase (sump). You should pay attention to the presence of smudges at the plug and filter, and, if necessary, replace the gasket of the Nissan March drain plug.

The main indicator of the frequency of oil change Nissan March is the age of the car. If the car is new, then the first change of Nissan March engine oil occurs immediately after the end of the running-in. In the future, the procedure should be carried out on the basis of the recommendations / regulations of the Nissan March, provided that high-quality fluids are used.

When purchasing a Nissan March from hands, it is more advisable to replace the oil and oil filter in the engine immediately. Subsequently, it is necessary to constantly monitor its level and condition. In both cases, experts recommend pouring engine oil into Nissan March only of the same brands with the same characteristics as before.

Reducing oil change times in Nissan March will be influenced by:

  • simple car;
  • poor quality of gasoline;
  • driving in hilly and mountainous areas;
  • overloading the machine by weight;

A reasonable solution for replacing engine oil in a Nissan March engine is considered to be turning to the services of professional auto centers that have all the possibilities for high-quality work.

The oil change process in Nissan March takes place in several stages:

  • we turn off the engine;
  • unscrew the drain plug and drain the old oil to the maximum;
  • we change the oil filter;
  • we wash the Nissan March engine with the addition of a special cleaning additive (optional);
  • pour in new oil.

After completing the oil change procedure, the Nissan March is turned on, allowed to idle for some time (3-5 minutes). Then check the engine oil level again and top up if necessary.

The stage of flushing the Nissan March engine today causes an ambivalent opinion. Such a process prevents the occurrence of problems associated with blockage of oil channels, the accumulation of deposits and clogging of certain parts of the car. But when draining the used oil, a significant amount of it can remain in the system.

Passing a detergent additive through the oil filter, a reaction mixture of chemicals remains on the walls and valves in the Nissan March engine. Further filling in a new liquid, it can enter into a chemical reaction with the formed elements, which will lead to foaming and the formation of deposits. The optimal solution would be to fill in pure mineral or semi-synthetic oil to eliminate dangerous deposits, and only then replace such oil with a working synthetic one.

Nissan March owners should pay special attention to the problem of choosing a gas station that provides high-quality fuel. The use of filling mixtures with poor properties has a negative effect on the composition of the oil.

Description: The dimensions are as follows: length - 3377, width - 1100, height - 1018 mm. The wheelbase is 2753 mm. The ground clearance is 226 mm. The car is equipped with a hybrid power unit. The 2-cylinder engine is equipped with a system that provides the output power of the engine. There are 4 valves per cylinder. Diameter of one
the cylinder is 77 mm, the piston stroke is 76 mm. The engine crankshaft accelerates to 7000 rpm.The maximum torque is maintained up to 2000 rpm.

The reasoning of a car owner named Liam: Not a bad engine, the gearbox jerks when switching. It behaves well in icy conditions. Not a bad optics. Quite high ground clearance, comfortable when parking.

Camshaft Mounting Components

1 - Upper supports No. 2-5 camshafts
2 - Upper support No. 1 of the camshafts
3/4 - Intake / exhaust camshaft
5 - Valve pushers
6/7 - Intake / exhaust camshaft sprocket

  1. Remove the locker of the right front wheel arch (see the Head of the Body).
  2. Secure the engine by installing lifting lugs on it and hanging from a winch. Alternatively, you can support the engine with a jack. Remove the strut of the right engine support and the upper bracket of the right support (see Section Removing and installing the power unit).
  3. Remove the cylinder head cover (see Section Removing and installing the cylinder head cover).
  4. If necessary, remove the CMP sensor from the back of the cylinder head.

Handle the sensor carefully; its end is magnetic, so be careful not to adhere to metal particles.

  1. Remove the right headlight (see the Head Onboard electrical equipment).
  2. Remove the front cylinder head cover.
  3. Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position of the compression stroke, as described in paragraphs 8 to 10.
  1. Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise until the TDC mark (2) on the pulley coincides with the TDC indicator (1) on the front cover of the cylinder block.
  1. Make sure that the TDC marks on the camshaft sprockets are located as shown in the illustration. If not, turn the crankshaft pulley one more turn.
  1. After the TDC marks on the camshaft sprockets are located as shown in the illustration above, paint or marker the corresponding marks on the timing chain links.
  1. Removal and installation of the intake camshaft sprocket assembly should be performed only if the timing adjuster is in the maximum advance position. When the engine is not running, the regulator (3) is in the maximum retardation position and does not rotate, because locked on the sprocket (1) by an inner pin (2). If you unscrew or tighten the intake camshaft sprocket assembly mounting bolts in the situation described above, the inner pin will be damaged, resulting in malfunctions due to increased horizontal load on the pin. To set the sprocket assembly to the maximum advance position, follow the procedures described in paragraphs 12 to 15. Do not remove the timing chain tensioner.
  1. Install a wrench on the hex of the intake camshaft and hold the shaft against turning.
  1. Using a hand pump (2) connected to the oil channel for adjusting the phases of the intake valves on the upper surface of the camshaft support No. 1, create pressure not less than 3 atmto bring the pin to the unlocked position. Maintain pressure while performing the procedures below.
  1. Slowly turn the intake camshaft counterclockwise while looking at the front of the engine, i.e. in the direction of the intake manifold. As soon as a click is heard from the sprocket assembly, which means that the phase regulator is unlocked, or the regulator starts to rotate independently on the sprocket, turn the camshaft in the opposite direction (to the exhaust pipe) to set the position of the maximum advance of the timing regulator. If unlocking does not occur, lightly shake the key holding the camshaft, or very gently knock with a hammer with a plastic striker on the front of the camshaft.
  1. The phase adjuster is in the maximum advance position when it can rotate freely and the sprocket rotates with the camshaft. In this case, the mark (1) of the regulator (3) must coincide with the mark (2) of the asterisk.
  1. Insert a paper clip (1) into the timing chain tensioner (2) to lock the tensioner rod in the fully compressed position, then remove the tensioner.
  1. Holding the camshaft by the hex, remove the camshaft sprocket bolts and remove the sprockets. When removing the intake camshaft sprocket, do not rotate the phase adjuster so that it does not lock in the maximum retard position. Do not force the intake camshaft sprocket assembly or disassemble it (do not remove the 4 front bolts).
  1. Remove the upper camshaft bearings by unscrewing the bolts in the sequence, reverse shown in the illustration.
  1. Remove the camshafts. When doing this, be careful not to deform the signal plate at the rear end of the intake camshaft.
  2. Remove and position the valve lifters so that they can then be reinstalled.
  1. Place the camshaft with journals No. 2 and No. 5 in the grooves of a special stand and, rotating the shaft, measure the radial runout of the journal No. 3. Compare the result with the requirements of the Specifications and replace the shaft if necessary.
  2. Measure the height of the camshafts and the diameter of the camshaft journals with a micrometer. Record your findings. Install the upper camshaft bearings and measure the inner diameter of their bearings, formed by the upper bearings and grooves in the cylinder head. Subtracting the corresponding journal diameter from the inner diameter of each camshaft bearing, calculate the backlash values for each journal in the bearing. Install the shafts on the cylinder head and check their axial play by moving the shafts back and forth by hand.Compare the results obtained with the requirements of the Specifications and, if necessary, replace the camshaft and / or cylinder head assembly with the upper camshaft bearings.
  3. Place the camshaft with journals No. 2 and No. 5 in the grooves of a special stand and, rotating the shaft, check the axial runout of its sprocket. Compare the value obtained with the requirements of the Specifications and replace the asterisk if necessary.
  4. Check the outer surfaces (cylindrical and flat) of the valve lifters for cracks and signs of wear. Measure the outer diameter of each tappet and the inner diameter of the corresponding bore in the cylinder head. Subtracting the first value from the second value, calculate the backlash of each valve tappet in the seat. If necessary, replace the tappet or cylinder head assembly with the upper camshaft bearings.
  1. Clean the lower seating surfaces of the camshafts (on the cylinder head) and install them, aligning the hole (1) on the intake shaft and the pin (2) on the output shaft as illustrated.
  1. The intake shaft can be distinguished from the exhaust shaft by looking at their ends. In addition, on the camshafts between the cams of cylinders No. 2 and No. 3 (1.0 l and 1.2 l engines) or No. 3 and No. 4 (1.2 l and 1.4 l engines) there are color marks: on the intake shaft - green, and on the exhaust - white (1.0 l engine) or red (1.2 l and 1.4 l engines).
  1. Clean the working surfaces of the upper camshaft bearings and reinstall them in their original places. The arrows on the supports must point towards the front of the engine (timing chain). The supports can be identified by the marks applied on them: the letter I or E means they belong to the intake or exhaust shaft, respectively, and the number after the letter indicates the number of the shaft journal (the numbering starts from the timing chain).
  1. Tighten the upper camshaft mounting bolts: first - No. 9-12 with a force 2.0 N • m, then all the bolts in the sequence shown with a force 5.9 N • m, and finally tighten all the bolts in the indicated sequence with a force 9.0 ÷ 11.8 N • m.

The bolts are of different lengths and corresponding colors: # 1-10 are black and # 11 and # 12 are golden.

  1. Install the intake camshaft sprocket assembly and make sure that the position marks for the maximum advance of the phase adjuster match.

The pin on the back of the sprocket assembly must fit into the corresponding hole in the shaft flange.

  1. Install the timing chain onto the intake camshaft sprocket so that the mark on the chain aligns with the mark on the sprocket.
  1. While holding the camshaft from turning, tighten the sprocket assembly mounting bolt and remove from the assembly the tape securing the sprocket to the phase adjuster (if installed).
Video (click to play).

The pin on the shaft flange must fit into the corresponding hole on the back of the sprocket.
