In detail: do-it-yourself repair of abs on a prior from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
The ABS unit on Priir rarely fails, since it, like many car parts, is of imported origin. Most cars are equipped with an ABS unit manufactured by BOSCH. The price of a new part is about 20,000 rubles (especially due to changes in the dollar exchange rate), so its failure can hit the car owner's wallet hard.
The main reason why the unit of the hydraulic unit on the Priora can fail is the increased voltage in the on-board network. This can be caused by the ingress of water into the generator, respectively - the failure of the voltage regulator relay. There were frequent cases when, when a car got into a puddle, the generator was flooded with water with all the ensuing consequences.
Fortunately, it is not necessary to buy new blocks, since fresh original parts can be bought at auto dismantlers at a price of 2500 rubles for such a part. To replace this part yourself, you will need the following tool:
- Split key 13 mm
- 10 mm head
- Ratchet handle or crank
So, first of all, we pump out the brake fluid from the reservoir, and it is best to drain it through the brake hose of one of the front cylinders. After that, unscrew the 4 brake pipes, as shown in the photo below.
The result of the work done is shown below graphically.
After that, we do the same with two brake pipes that go to the block from the master cylinder.
Next, you need to disconnect the power connector, first moving the retaining bracket aside, and take the block to the side.

The result of removing the connector is shown in the photo below.
It remains to unscrew the two nuts securing the unit to the car bracket.
Now we remove the block up or to the side, the result of which is shown below.
The installation of a new block is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Of course, after replacing a part, it is necessary to pump air in the brake system.
Like any modern car, "Priora" is equipped with many devices that make driving more comfortable and safe. These devices include the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System). Like all modern devices, it has its own electronic control unit and a warning light on the instrument panel. And then this lamp came on. What to do if the ABS malfunction indicator on the Priora is triggered? Where to look? Who should I contact?
The anti-lock braking system was developed when it became clear that with a sharp wheel jam, the car loses stability and is difficult to control. Moreover, the quality of braking did not improve, and the car was pretty much carried out of the way. Therefore, a system was developed that, by regulating the pressure in the brake lines, allows the wheels to turn a little. This significantly improves vehicle dynamics, allowing the driver to drive more confidently. But despite the seeming simplicity, this is a rather complex process that requires the coordinated work of many mechanisms included in the anti-lock braking system. In case of failure of any of the components on the instrument panel, a warning lamp comes on.
Like most modern automotive systems, the ABS is computer controlled. But in addition to the electronic control unit, it also includes several sensors and actuators. The entire system consists of several elements.
- Electronic control unit (ECU).
- Wheel hub sensors 4 pcs.
- Brake fluid pressure valves in the system 4 pcs.
- EVN (Electric Return Pump).
- Indicator light on the instrument panel.
For all its apparent simplicity, this is a rather complex, high-tech system. Each sensor transmits data on the speed of rotation of the Priora wheel to the electronic control unit. According to the data received, the control unit sends a signal to the brake system valve, which, when you press the brake pedal, releasing pressure, does not allow the wheels to completely lock and start an uncontrolled skid of the car.
Structurally, on the Priora, ABS ECUs are mounted together with EVN and valves that regulate pressure into a single unit - a hydraulic unit. It is located on the front left side member of the vehicle. The hydraulic unit is connected to the entire system by a common wiring harness. It includes branch pipes for supplying brake fluid to the working cylinders. The EVN is also mounted here, which increases the pressure in the system.
The sensors that supply data about the speed of rotation of the wheel to the control unit are made on the principle of operation of the Hall sensor. By the way, this principle is used in most rotation sensors: changing the voltage on the semiconductor of the sensor, depending on the passage of a control point near it on a rotating disk. It is in relation to the signals from the ABS sensors that the control unit manipulates the valves.
What the Priora drivers talk about - “the ABS sensor has lit up”, is in fact a warning lamp for the anti-lock system health. At the moment the ignition is switched on, the orange inscription "ABS" will light up on the dashboard for about three seconds. If the system is working properly, then after three to four seconds the light will go out. In general, the principle of signaling from the "ABS sensor" is the same as from the warning lamp of the main computer of the machine, the well-known "checker".
All ABS Priora malfunctions can be conditionally divided into two categories. Electronic malfunctions and malfunctions in the field of hydromechanics. So they should be considered.
This is a failure of components associated with electronics:
- breaks in the wiring harness;
- failure of the rotation speed sensors;
- open or short circuit of the coil for switching on the control valve;
- failure of the electric motor of the return pump;
- failure of the relay for switching on the valves;
- program failure, or failure of the ABS control unit.
In this case, the most typical breakdowns are the leaks of the stuffing boxes in various joints and assemblies. Development of working surfaces on disks, and as a consequence, a change in the distance between the sensor and the readable surface. Stuck system valves. Clogged nozzles of hydraulic drives and breakdown of the working part of the return pump.
The serviceability of the ABS system in Priora, like in any car, is a very important issue. It is very convenient that the slightest failure in its operation will immediately be reflected on the dashboard. The ABS control lamp will light up or it will not go out after the prescribed time after turning on the ignition.
There is no need to hesitate. An urgent need to go to a computer diagnostics in a decent service station. Modern ABS "Priory" ECUs have an output to the diagnostic connector. They are perfectly diagnosed by both portable handheld scanners and stationary motor testers. Since all ABS electronics are very closely connected with the mechanical part, an experienced master diagnostician will determine most of the breakdowns in this area by scanning the computer.
For example, the service valve is stuck in one of the directions. What happens: the coil, figuratively speaking, is trying to influence him, but he is not moving. The computer, having noticed a violation of the load in the circuit, will immediately give a signal. The "ABS sensor" will light up. When connected, the wizard will see the direction that needs to be viewed and quickly fix the breakdown.
Some scanners that read faults recorded in the ECU give out only alphanumeric codes, so for especially meticulous motorists it makes sense to have at hand the decoding of these codes for the VAZ "Priora":
- С0035 - malfunction of the left front sensor;
- С0040 - the same at the front right;
- С0045 - rear left malfunction;
- С0050 - the same right back;
- С0060 - failure of the left front exhaust valve;
- С0065 - failure of the inlet front left valve;
- C0070 - malfunction of the front right exhaust valve;
- С0075 - malfunction of the inlet front right valve;
- С0080 - rear left exhaust;
- С0085 - rear left intake;
- С0090 - right rear exhaust;
- С0095 - rear right intake valve;
- С0110 - malfunction of the return pump circuit;
- С0121 - failure in the relay circuit for switching on the supply voltage of the valves;
- С0161 - malfunction in the brake light circuit;
- С0245 - incorrect reading of the rotational speed;
- C0550 - ECU malfunction;
- С0800 - voltage mismatch in the ABS network.
This list allows you to find a malfunction, even if a simple scanner for Priora gives out only codes, and to find out why the "ABS sensor has lit up". And yet it is worth remembering that it will be more pleasant for the master to hear the correct wording - the anti-lock system malfunction lamp is on.
The video below shows the work of ABS Priora:
Priora 2012: the ABS block 8.1 icon is on, 11183538010, version 01010000
Errors s0110 - malfunction of the return pump motor circuit.
s0121 - malfunction of the valve relay circuit.
The day can drive normally, but sometimes the error lights up and the error is not reset. Has anyone come across?
There was such a problem when the electrolyte from the battery ate the positive wire from the power fuse. It was not visible to the eye until everything around the valve body was unkindled.
I have come across such codes that have arisen due to the burned out of the contacts of the 40A power fuse near the battery which. Also, replacing the block did not help, but cleaning the contacts decided everything beforehand.
Modern anti-lock braking systems (ABS) have long ceased to be a sign of an elite car - they are installed on most new cars coming off the assembly line. While this useful piece of equipment is quite reliable, it still has a number of problem points that can affect smooth operation. The most vulnerable elements of the ABS are the wheel speed sensors located on the vehicle's hubs.
The ABS sensor is an inductor paired with a toothed disc, which is also mounted on the hub. Together they measure the speed at which the wheel is spinning. The first symptom of a device malfunction will be the signal of a warning lamp located on the dashboard of the car.
When the system is stable, the controller goes out a few seconds after the engine is started. If the indicator stays on or starts blinking chaotically when the car is moving, anti-lock brakes require immediate intervention.
Along with the signal of the indicator lamp, a sensor malfunction is indicated by:
- alphanumeric error code of the on-board computer;
- lack of characteristic sound and vibration when pressing the brake pedal;
- permanent blocking of wheels during emergency braking;
- parking brake controller light signal when the equipment is off.
The appearance of any of these symptoms requires a complete system diagnosis. Note that the help of car service technicians in solving this issue is completely optional. There are various ways to test an ABS sensor, and in most cases it is easy to do the job yourself.
As a result of device diagnostics, it is possible to determine in which sensor assembly there is damage. If the tester readings tend to zero, this indicates a short circuit in the connection wires, "infinity" signals a violation of the integrity of the coil winding.There is an opinion that the repair of the wiring does not cause any problems, but the faulty sensor is easier to simply replace. It is difficult to disagree with the first thought, but the next "point" can be disputed.
The fact is that the cost of some sensors reaches 14-18 thousand rubles, and you will have to wait for their delivery for a long time. Having certain skills, a stock of patience and natural ingenuity, it will be much more useful and faster to repair the device than to pay for a long-awaited expensive order. Note that this advice is only advisory in nature - the final verdict is yours. If the decision to repair is still made, we will be happy to help you to carry it out correctly.
After diagnostics and detection of a faulty element, the device must be dismantled for further repair. The process of removing it is similar to the first stage of measures to replace the ABS sensor and is not particularly difficult.
Attention! Elements can stick to the seat; it takes a lot of patience to remove them from the slot. Professional technicians advise to moisten the metal around the device abundantly with WD-40 liquid and carefully remove the sensor, slowly loosening it.
Having finished dismantling the device, we proceed to the repair work:
The repair of the sensor is completed, you can mount it on the hub by grinding the new body with sandpaper for a better fit to the seat. When installing a repaired device, be sure to observe the following conditions:
- Place the sensor core parallel to the teeth of the counter disk, making sure that it does not overlap two adjacent teeth.
- We leave a gap between the tine and the core of 0.9–1.1 mm.
The final stage in the repair of any of the ABS elements is to check the system operability. We carry it out by starting the car engine and making sure that the controller on the dashboard goes out 3-5 seconds after the start.
Attention! If the ABS indicator lamp periodically lights up when the car is moving after repairing the sensor, change the phasing of its connection wires.
Note that some sensors produced by the foreign auto industry can be disassembled without a fundamental violation of the integrity of the structure - the upper shell of the part can be removed by pre-heating with a construction hairdryer or blowtorch. An example of repairing such a device is shown in the video.
