DIY 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report

In detail: do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

The site provides information on automatic transmissions
Automatic transmission schemes, variators. The principles of the units.
Repair, disassembly and assembly of automatic transmission.

Automatic transmission was installed by np Audi VW, Skoda and BMW. 5-step.

There are many weak points in this box, one of the main ones is r / t, since the blocking there is made constantly skidding. Although there are those who walk 300 thousand kilometers. Here, a lot depends on the cooling of the automatic transmission and how the engine, air flow meter, throttle sensor, etc. work.

This is Audi's all-wheel drive automatic transmission.

Rear-wheel drive is characterized by the absence of a front gearbox and transfer case, front-wheel drive has no transfer case
Disassembly begins with the removal of the pallet and brains. When removing the brains (after 1999), disconnect the turbine sensor so as not to rip off the wire. Under the brains in the pump area, you need to pull out 5 rubber seals (tubes), not a BMW. In the middle there are 3 stoppers with springs 1218, under the springs of the seal.
In BMW, there are 2 plastic kegs under the brains in the pump area. One can be easily removed, the second press and turn the metal tube, it should easily come out and the spring. The plastic keg will likely have to be broken in order to be removed. Unscrew the 3 caliper bolts in the middle. Unscrew 3 bolts of cover 481 and remove it together with shaft 1493 (for Audi).

That's it, then we take out all the giblets, if it works out 🙂 Because 80% of these cars come with a welded bushing of the oil pump at r / t. And getting it out of the automatic transmission is not so easy.

4962 - F housing (2 types, depending on the 970 hub).

Good day to all
If there is no objection from the Dear public,
I want to repeat the topic of the automatic box bulkhead. There was already such a topic on the forum, but I hope that
new pictures and opinions will not be superfluous.
Bulkhead reason;
Gears 3,4 are skidding. Sluggishly accelerates forward, rides on the back very well. The oil level is checked, everything is ok. I almost forgot the OVD2 did not reveal any errors, All gears change without jerks, there is a small vibration
on a warmed-up box, similar to pulling the clutch when the basket is broken.

Now a question for connoisseurs!
Spare parts of which companies do you use.
For example, how do you feel about TranStar ??
What kits can be ordered in advance?
I plan to order (Up Deluxe Overhaul Kit 5HP19FL) firms transstar.
Thank you all in advance for your participation and support. Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report

valery1963,
take better spare parts zf.
If necessary, I can tell you where the ZFVO overol is for 5.5 cube. I took it myself.
The bagel is definitely a substitute.

Mobile oil lt 71141. In the original, it also goes.
The oil pressure regulator is also definitely a replacement.

Hello everyone, there was a vibration from 1000-1500 rpm, I wang an automatic transmission on a bagel, in fact, what kind of offices.

Hello everybody. Maybe someone has contacts of an intelligent repairman.

I welcome everyone. The theme is this. Due to the increased fuel consumption and gray smoke during acceleration above avg.

Hello. Italian replica, wide: front 8j, bridgestone tires 225/35/19 rear 9j.

Who collided ?, bmw e39 crack on the glass at the point of attachment of the rack, the crack comes out of the hole.

Actually, everything is in the title, the new Machle piston under the M52B28.

Good afternoon members of the forum. Was going to change the rear shock absorbers and springs. On shock absorbers more and more men.

Automatic five-speed transmission ZF 5HP19 became widespread among German automakers. This transmission was originally developed for Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. However, later this model of gearboxes was installed on most BMW models. The gearbox is used with rear and all-wheel drive vehicles. The maximum engine displacement limit is 4 liters.

Like most automatic transmissions from the German company ZF, the 5HP19 model is distinguished by its durability and increased reliability. Transmissions can easily withstand several hundred thousand kilometers and do not require complex overhaul. At the same time, it should be noted that this model is extremely critical to oil starvation. Faulty solenoids or oil leakage from under the gasket can significantly reduce the pressure in the network, which in turn leads to problems with lubrication and overheating of the gearbox.

Due to common breakdowns in automatic transmission ZF 5HP19 you can highlight the problems with the torque converter. During operation, the torque converter fork may stick to other moving parts due to lack of lubrication. In the initial stages of this breakdown, the problem can be eliminated relatively painlessly. However, if this problem is not noticed in time, the bearings of the transformer fail, which in turn leads to problems with the oil pump. As a result, the pump or the torque converter itself requires a complete replacement. Solenoids fail quite often, which are recommended to be replaced after 100,000 kilometers. In case of problems with the solenoids, an increase in pressure in the system is noted, which all the way leads to damage to the drums. Due to poor quality oil, the oil pump cover can wear out, which leads to oil leaks.

Cast iron sand is everywhere. well, the handles of the men from the "service" were not sharpened for that, and there are no brains in the course. I regularly mow other people's jambs after such services
still think, what is there to make such a box? what type of money do the snatchers take!

Good luck!
and while your transmission is being repaired, I strongly advise you to pay close attention to the engine and gearbox cooling system - do not be lazy, she loves it

DIY 5hp18 automatic transmission repair
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 02:51 Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report

It was purchased inexpensively, semi-working automatic transmission 5hp18. Switching shocks, emergency mode, etc.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 02:55 We will open it. The room is not very suitable for such work, but there is.

First, unscrew the pallet - the bolts with clamps.

The pallet is opened, then the filter - only 3 bolts and you're done.

We unscrew the valve body, bolts with large caps, those that do not need to be unscrewed at least.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:02 In the picture, all the bolts are the same, but in reality the difference is noticeable.

Next, we take out the brake band piston by removing the retaining ring. A kind of patch, it is difficult to confuse with anything else. In the picture it is taken out, the pusher is visible

We unscrew the oil pump.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:25 Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report
we pull the trunk of the oil pump, prying with a screwdriver between the packages from the pallet.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:27 Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report
The first flaw, a crumbling bearing.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:28 I think he greatly influenced the work, we are looking for a reason for a more serious reason.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:30 Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report
We lay out in order, so that nothing is confused during assembly.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:32 Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report
We remove the retaining ring, let's see how the clutches are doing in this package.
Posts pasted: March 19, 2014 03:41 Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report
Brown clutches are not burnt out, but steel discs with traces of tarnishing.

The renovation is still ongoing. There is a question for connoisseurs.
Will it be possible to check the clutch packs right on the assembled box?

Found test holes, but not all here. picture.

I did not find where the holes for the outlines C1, B, A, E. There are 3 unknown holes and a trunk from a donut.

And here is the oil supply circuit itself, and for which gear this or that set is responsible.

Yesterday I disassembled and washed the valve body from another box of the same type, the 13-pin plug, for the E34 up to '92, I don't even know what it can break in it, it was clogged with dirt, and it worked, I didn't see the workings anywhere, the springs are intact. I wanted to start collecting, I saw one jet burst, tomorrow I'll take it from another, the same brain. Perhaps I will soon sell this valve body, the plug does not fit me, the plug from the ECU is 14 pins.

Found a mismatch in the original ZF manual. At first I thought the hydraulic brain was disassembled and assembled in a wrong way, I tried to assemble it as in the manual, bites the spring. The spring is in a different place. I watched the report of the parsing of the valve body of the Audi A6, they also found inconsistencies there, and a lot. Perhaps they modified it but did not add it to the manual.

Posts pasted: March 27, 2014 00:04 I found information on the network that it is necessary to lubricate the plungers with a mixture of ATF + graphite paste + car polish, so that they would slide better. It wasn’t close at hand, with ATF they move so well, and I didn’t want to clutter it up with foreign crap. It is not known how graphite will behave when it gets between the clutches and the steel discs.

I also read about soaking freaks, did not understand just why it is, so as not to burn? Yes?!

The problem has been resolved by the way. The gear selector rod in the valve body is broken, apparently it did not stand up properly during installation, or when the cable was torn off.
Image - Do-it-yourself 5hp19 automatic transmission repair photo report

What is strange, the rod is made of some kind of composite, an aluminum 5hp18 valve body was installed, it sat much more tightly from the composite, and the aluminum now has backlash, tenths of a millimeter but backlash (even in the plate from which it was taken it did not sit tightly). I think there is a leak through it. Although the gearshifts seem to be normal, at 2200 rpm. Pumping shock absorbers also works fine, with a faulty box they did not work, although they did not seem to be tied to the box.
Messages pasted: 01 Apr, 2014 23:56 It's a pity that the stem from another valve body had to be taken, a good stove, now it will have to be sold with spare parts, although there is something to take besides solenoids.
Messages pasted: 02 Apr, 2014 00:07 Identified 5hp18 package check purge holes. Maybe someone will come in handy, I'm not sure 100% compliance.

The picture above is a post dated March 19, 2014. Bold type indicates the clutch packs involved, in a certain gear.

5-speed automatic transmission ZF 5HP19 (with modifications ./FL ../FLA) - family of boxes # 1 under repair, for many years overtaking in popularity in Russia by a large margin even the numerous Toyota family U140-U241 from Aisin Co. Best-selling masterpiece of the German company ZF.

And although already a dozen years ago this legendary automatic transmission was replaced by the already legendary ZF6HP26 - 8HP, all the same, this machine is also successfully “rolled” and repaired in the post-Soviet space.

This popularity in repair is not due to the fact that the 5HP19 is so bad and often breaks down, but simply a successful transmission was installed on all "long-playing" cars. The case when a great box was chosen for great cars... (the list of cars that used the 5HP19 automatic transmission is below).

The first automatic transmissions began to work in 1995 on front- and all-wheel drive Audi and were designed on the basis of a 4-speed 4HP18 and 5-speed 5HP18 (with which most of the nodes are identical). The difference 5HP19 in that it is designed for a slightly higher torque than 5HP18 and was aggregated with engines up to 4 liters.

Automatic transmission modification 5HP19FL designed for the family of front-wheel drive cars Audi-Volkswagen.

5HP19FLА - for all-wheel drive vehicles with V6 engine. 5HP19 used for rear-wheel drive BMW cars.

ZF 5HP19 according to the VAG classification bears the name: 01L, or for some positions - 01V... Automatic transmission modifications are mainly associated with the drive (RearWD - ForwardWD - AllWD) and the order of the automakers for the longitudinal or transverse arrangement of the transmission. Most parts for all modifications are basically the same throughout the 16 years of production.
