Hands got to this monster.
What is done:
The pallet is removed, the connector is removed from the blocking solenoid.
Then he removed the connector from the control unit and “rang out” the wiring directly from the solenoid (inside the box) to the connector to the control unit.
The reason for my "ordeals" was revealed - one of the wires was incorrectly connected.
The error was fixed, "crashed" into the right wire, put everything in place and made a test trip.
During a trip at a speed of about 70-80 km / h and higher, I see a voltage supply to the external solenoid (the one used to “deceive” the control unit). The solenoid starts chirping like a sewing machine (and the LED is on accordingly).
At this moment, I manually (with a switch) close the negative wire from the blocking solenoid to ground and see a drop in engine speed along the tachometer arrow by about 300-400 rpm. If the “mass” is disconnected, the engine speed increases again (according to the tachometer).
We rode on the track for a long time and after about 20 kilometers, when we walked at a speed of 100-110 km / h, the solenoid stopped chirping. I turned off my switch manually and we got a blinking lamp on the instrument panel (that is, an error on blocking the gas turbine engine got out).
Video (click to play). |
Without turning off the engine, we accelerate again (with a burning lamp). Gears are switched. We turn on the solenoid of the gas turbine engine again “manually” - the tachometer speed drops again.
The engine was restarted: the burning malfunction lamp went out, we are accelerating, but I see neither the LED burning nor the chirping of the external “deceiving” solenoid. I turn on the lock manually - everything is worked out, the revolutions are falling. Turn off - go up.
I turn it on again - they fall again. We drove the car decently enough - it rides beautifully, there is a fairly rigid (good, does not slip) connection between the engine and the driving axle.
Slow down, in first gear. The throttle pedal is generally released, the engine is idling. I turn on the lock - immediately there is a "second wind", "traction", and the car is idling at a speed of about 15 kilometers per hour (maybe a little more).
Based on this, it can be assumed that the mechanical part of the transmission, and the solenoid, the valve body do their job.
The reason is some kind of external.
Yes, let me remind you that this car has some kind of problem with ABS, and the front axle does not turn on. From time to time there were problems with turning on the interior heater (stove). Maybe there is some kind of relationship?
So:
Before buying an American car with automatic transmission, GGB of the Internet was studied and a lot of questions from users of amerikosov were asked, in general, it was decided to take a 4.0 liter Ford Explorer, 160 horses. I didn't poke around a lot, I chose a decent option in my opinion and brought home this joy. The prevailing opinion is that the machine is a complete pease. and in the repair, the popos were terrifying. But all fears were deposited somewhere deep and somewhere deeply consciousness was preparing for this surprise. ...
a year of owning a Ford passed, everything worked well, the car drove, gasoline was poured, the gearbox began to kick, dull when switching from R to D (there was a delay). here it is, it started thinking and began to study the manual.
... new year, "syndrome" and now I'm going home with a blinking O / D lamp and a stuck gearbox in 3rd gear.internet, garage, terminal from the battery, in the morning the lamp is off, great, warming up, food. No, she's in 3rd gear, I got a tryndet, I'm studying the cost of boxes 45-60 sput, (not a fun prospect), I'm going to Oleg's service for a lens (“Oleg help mi
MANUAL. the car to the garage, rushed. after numerous manipulations, cleaning the workbench, garage, the car was in the pit in a tilted state for better service. distributors, unscrewed the stretcher, drained the oil, removed the distributor, disconnected all the wires from the box, unrolled the bell, the problem arose with the oil lines, tried to heat it, it did not help, I had to cut it, removed the box, the hydraulic transmission remained in place, I will unscrew it later, it was decided to replace the knee seal along the way ...

5-speed automatic transmission 5R55N (5R55W , 5R55S), for the modifications of which the Americans came up with the letters of the cardinal points (north-south-.), was released in 2000 and is quite common with us with the Ford Explorer and THUNDERBIRD. In addition to Ford and Lincoln, it was used on Mazda pickups in the tropics of Asia and the British put it on the Jaguar S-type for two years. In 2002, a damp box 5R55N replaced by a new submodification - 5R55W, and in 2003, after additional improvements, it came out 5R55S.
Installed on rear- and all-wheel drive vehicles with powerful engines (from 3 to 5 liters). Structurally, it belongs to the 4R44 - 4R55E family.
This family of machines grew out of the popular A4LD-E. The biggest changes, as always, are in the electrics. The valve body was changed in 2009.
In the design of the automatic transmission, electronic forced control of the torque converter lock-up is used. This complicates the operation of the system and makes it dependent on the quality of the oil. The torque converter of this machine clogs the valve body especially quickly and is the main reason for contamination of the valve body and failure of the solenoid unit (below).
For this rather simple and unhurried machine, the first years you only need to monitor the leaks (quantity and quality of MerconV oil - 11.5 liters) and the freshness of the filter. The oil is changed every 50-60 tkm at the beginning of life and “as it gets dirty” at a venerable age. Also, the masters recommend for aging machines not to save on the filter (248010) and change it with every ATF oil change.
Pick up repair kits - press the button on the left.
The gearbox does not like dirty oil, and the repair of the spoiler - the torque converter is the first on the list for restoration - 248001.
The set of gaskets and oil seals (Overol Kit) are different for the pilot modification 5R55N and 5R55W / S - 248002.
And for boxes since 2002, they take another Repair Kit - 248002B. In 2009, changes were made to the valve body, the valve body gaskets received minor changes (they punched a couple of holes) and both gasket options are already included in the kit. Overol Transtec is ordered more often.
A set (one-way and conventional) clutches for different releases: before 2002 and after) - 248005.
Plastic filter 5R55W / 5R55S
The most frequent repairs are replacing the filter and sump gasket 248300. Filters are used in three modifications, depending on the dimensions of the pallet and the year of manufacture ( on right ):248010 - Plastic, with 10mm intake 1999-2002.
248010A - with 54 mm intake (SUV) 2002+
248010B - with 33 mm intake 2003+
Brake bands Intermediate / Reverse 5R55W / 5R55S
In addition to consumables, you often have to change:
- Brake bands Intermediate - O.Drive (no. 248022A). Constructive flaw - breakage of the belt stop from skewing and vibrations. Change along with the servo piston.
The old universal brake bands from 5R55N were reinforced in 2002.
With these two tapes, the Reverse tape 248024 is usually changed.
Brake Band Pistons
Piston Overdrive Servo Band piston 2.900 / 73mm - # 248902A.
and 71.5 mm - No. 248907D. The piston problem is usually associated with wear and abnormal operation of the brake bands.
A more expensive replacement is to replace the one that has exhausted its not too long resource Solenoid block 5R55W / S (No. 248420B). On 5R55W / 5R55S since 2002, this solenoid block is its own and is not interchangeable with the previous modification, as Chrysler did on А604-41TE... Solenoid block for 5R55N - no. 248420.
Frequent Replacement - Output Input Speed Sensors (VSSISS) - 248436.
When the valve body is overhauled, both gaskets are changed - 248320 and 248321, are included in the repair kit.
The clutches of the Forward package burn most often - 248108, they change not only the complete set of clutches of discs - No. 248005. But often the steel discs are 248128 and the thrust disc of this package is 248148.
A typical 5R55 overhaul order also includes a Gasket and Seal Kit # 248002 to replace worn rings and gaskets.
Pump
The weak point here is the pump valve. Its sticking leads to a delay or no thrust at all with increasing engine speed. To repair it, Sonnax (or TransGo) repair valve is used - No. 248507.
When cleaning the pump, it is recommended to purge the problem channel each time (click on the left).
Pumps are often ordered remanufactured - 2487500. They differ depending on the version before 2002 with a sun gear OD 248610 with 24 teeth or a new version from 2002 with 38 teeth.
This is followed in descending order by less frequently replaced hardware parts that use up their resource:
- Drum Overdrive # 248550.
- Planetary Rows, O.D. 248580,
and Front / Forward Planetary Gear # 248582.
- Overdrive Clutch Separator, Overdrive 24 Elements Wide 4R44E / 55E / 5R55N / W / S, which has not changed since 1997 when it was used on A4LD automatic transmission.
This part is ordered using the A4LD automatic transmission number - 243650
Bushing kit 5R55N / 5R55W / 5R55S (5pcs)
Vibrations from overloads together with dirty oil first break the bushings, and when the pump does not have time to cope with the loss of oil through the bushings (and gaskets), oil starvation begins, which finishes off the bushings, clutches and the rest of the iron.
Most often, a set of 5 bushings is ordered - No. 248030
Valve body repairs are frequent, for the restoration of which Sonnax has released many repair kits, which is very popular in America, but so far not very much with us.
This problem is inherent in all valve bodies of the beginning of the “zero”, in which the transformer was blocked too early with strong slippage, and the drivers used aggressive acceleration too often and too rarely changed the oil and the torque converter clutch.
On older cars that have survived oil overheating and clutch combustion, it is recommended to install an additional cooling radiator. ( click on the picture on the left to see options )

GEARMATIC - partial and major overhaul of Ford Explorer automatic transmission in Moscow at an affordable price with a guarantee.
If you feel that the box does not behave as usual, then you should diagnose the Explorer automatic transmission, we list the typical symptoms of a malfunction indicating a possible imminent breakdown:
- skidding (slipping)
- a signal appeared on the instrument panel - automatic transmission emergency mode
- constant or intermittent vibration (pillows also need to be checked)
- jerks when shifting down / up to any of the gears, jerks to cold or hot
- gears do not turn on, gear is lost
- blows in transmission, kicks
- slows down, dulls, makes noise
Also, do not forget to do the maintenance of the Explorer automatic transmission on time (at least changing the oil (ATF) and filter, in advanced cases - flushing the valve body), it is still a more expensive undertaking to drive into the bulkhead. Periodically check the oil level in your transmission yourself (if equipped with a dipstick). Be sure to warm up the box in winter, at least while driving on low gas (if you are in a hurry).
If you have a malfunction or breakdown of the Ford Explorer 5 4 3 2 1 automatic transmission and you want to ask a question (about maintenance, diagnostics, problem solving), you want to leave a review about the transmission on this car (share with others), leave a review about our work - you can do all this using the comment form below.
Good afternoon. Please tell me, after repairing the automatic transmission of the car (Ford Explorer 2007), they replaced the planetary gear, replaced the repair kit in the valve body, changed the salenoid block, and the car began to kick when switching from 1-2, and 2-3, which may be the reason, I so I think that the defective planetary (used) was installed ... .. please tell me. The reason for the repair was that the automatic transmission was in emergency mode - on the planetary, the copper washer burst and the shavings got into the valve - jammed ...
No offense - contact where they did it for you - they know better what they put, etc. And there is a guarantee - let them redo it.

no offense, I turned there and everything will be altered, unambiguously, I had a question: can anyone come across such a problem (jerks when switching from 1-2) - what could it be?
There can be many options: valve body, screwed up during assembly, etc. It cannot kick because of the planetary - this is an actuator.

thanks, but if it were the brains themselves, i.e. board, then it would just kick in all the gears or probably would not go at all
No. It can kick at any switch.

And how long can it take for the computer to adapt to the automatic transmission after its repair, in time or in km?
Provided that during the repair the solenoid block was replaced, then you can reset the settings and it immediately adapts practically.

good evening. started the car in the morning, after 5-10 minutes of work oil dripped - pink from the junction of the automatic transmission and internal combustion engine. Not much, but the next day as well. When it got warmer and everything is repeated. frost was somewhere - 25. Is there a problem in the oil seal somehow?
The donut hub breaks the oil pump support bushing - replacing the oil seal will not help. The bushing does not change separately, you need to change the pump assembly and repair the torque converter.

1995. I bought it in Moscow. I traveled for 1 month. I went on business to Moscow. On the way, the oldrife lay and the oil drove out in the area of the engine, on the right side of the box, and I took it to Moscow, where it was repaired and after the repair a month passed and again tell me the same thing. problem
It is better to go to where they did it, the more there should be a guarantee. It is a thankless task to figure out what is there who did when and why the same is in your case.Understand correctly.

Good day. Ford Explorer 1992, capacity 4.0 After the purchase, I drove very far, the checkpoint began to warm on the road, as a result, the oil dipstick got on the caliper almost burned the car, unscrewed the cardan shafts and towed it to about a hundred. Carried out a "repair" - replacement of friction rings drove home. The ode to the first gear remained in the toga. I gave it to the local specialists again for repairs, they promised to do it, but they put it together, tried it and again the same nonsense works, only the first gear does not turn on the rest. Tell me what could be wrong? what to start from? At least the base is not included from what. since I'm totally confused. Thanks in advance.
1. It's not just the rings.
2. Tell me honestly how much money did you pay for the repairs?

Hello. FE 2014 The term of operation is a month. 4000 km run. Careful running in. No prerequisites. And at one point I get under way - a hum and it looks like a vibration in a box at the start. Then it disappears. 1 hour drive and the following: when switching from D to N, from R to N - a strong kick. When from neutral to speed - everything is calm. I removed the clamps from the battery. 5 minutes. Started up - no kicks. I drove, got up - I switch back and forth - a kick appears and intensifies. Dealer - with round eyes, such problems have never been encountered. In the cabin, they got behind the wheel, squeezed the brake and gave a little gas - a sound out of the box, as if the gears rub against each other and scroll. Can you tell me something? I live in the outback. There is no dealer in town. You have to travel to the mainland.
When driving around the city and on the highway, the speeds are switched without problems, not stupid. All speeds are working properly. Of the problems - only noise at the start (with a sharp start) and kicks only when shifting from gear to neutral.
An obvious malfunction, including a mechanical one. To the dealer - let them change the automatic transmission to a new one under warranty.

And what can be caused? They say these boxes are very reliable. And what exactly could come up? Is repair possible (replacement of valve body or solenoid block)? How to require an assembly to be replaced?
Here only an autopsy will show. The fact that you had a crunch out of the box was fur. damage.
Regarding butting with a dealer - not in the know. Come - fix the malfunction and inform that the new box should not be and please change.

Hello everyone, I am the owner of the legendary Ford explorer in the fall took up the car, changed the heads, went through the automatic transmission and made a razdatku, After that, she began to be capricious: she switches speeds at high revs until you release the gas pedal and sometimes stalls when you release the gas pedal, tell me if anyone knows ,
To iterate over again.

Hello, Alexander.
Give advice. I choose a jeep. I went to ISUZU Bighorn (half Japanese, half American). There were no problems with the box, there was an automatic transmission in Japan. I am leaning towards buying a 2006-2008 Ford Exporer. Due to the fresh year and affordable prices. But I read the reviews, almost everyone has a problem with the automatic transmission. Someone writes that these problems are not with the 4.6 engine. Or include the cost of repairing an automatic transmission in the price? Or would you recommend looking at another manufacturer?
Put in the price mentally. In general, all boxes break, and Pradikov / Kruzakov as well.

Good afternoon, I have a fe1 4 l 160 los automatic transmission at a speed of 95-100 km per hour, engine speed 3000, it feels like eating on the third. What can you do? How much does diagnostics and repair cost if the fourth does not turn on?
Diagnostics costs 1 tr., While it is not clear what is the matter - therefore, at the cost of repairs - after diagnostics.

The automobile concern Ford is one of the oldest and most successful in the world. It is to the Ford plant that the world owes the first developments in the field of planetary hydraulic automatic transmissions. Ford strives to produce reliable, comfortable cars that can compete with any car manufacturer. Ford automatic transmissions are simple and reliable.
Car Ford Focus Sedan
The Ford Focus is equipped with a unique 4f27e four-speed transmission. The uniqueness of Focus with 4f27e automatic transmission is that it is the only popular transmission that can be completely repaired without removing it from the car. This simple and reliable transmission is still in production today.
At first, Focus with automatic transmission 4f27e does not require anything other than changing the oil and filters. But already in the first years on the Focus with 4f27e, the main problems begin to appear. The first to focus on the 4f27e are the reverse clutches and the overdrive mode. On Mazda cars with the same boxes, manufacturers very quickly switched to reinforced clutches, which can also be ordered for the Ford Focus with 4f27e. Rapid burnout of clutches on Focus with 4f27e is associated with the design of the box and cannot be cured. It's all the fault of the drum seat on the Focus with 4f27e, it wears out too quickly and oil starts leaking from the back cover. Its wear occurs with increased side loads and aggressive driving, the automatic transmission electronics are very fond of overloading this unit. With oil starvation, the clutches begin to slip and burn.
Automatic transmission control unit 4f27e
A common problem with the Ford Focus automatic transmission is the rear cover. When the first vibrations appear when driving a Ford Focus, you should watch it and change it if necessary. After the clutches on the Ford Focus burn out, the drums will also start burning. Together with the drums, the pistons should be replaced immediately.
The brake band on a Ford Focus can be considered a consumable item. If it is not changed in time, the car will be left without second and fourth gears. The problem can be solved by ordering a reinforced tape.
With frequent overheating of the box on the Ford Focus, the overdrive mode servo fails.
Teflon o-rings for the oil pump and rear cover are another fun part of this automatic transmission and are sold separately. They can be changed simultaneously with the oil change, they are so “good”. Fortunately, this procedure on a Ford Focus is very simple and there is no need to dismantle the box. More relevant for Mazda vehicles than Ford Focus. If the rings on the Ford Focus are not changed, the oil will start to drain and the lack of pressure will kill the box very quickly, starting, as a rule, with reverse gear and overdrive mode. If you just add oil, then the cover or drum will have to be changed.
The electrical part of this automatic transmission is very reliable. Once every 150,000-20,000, it is necessary to rinse and clean the valve body and change its sealing elements. On the same run, along with this operation, it is worth changing the pressure solenoid and the switching solenoid. They work harder and deplete their resources faster.
On the mechanical part, one of the differentials is often grinded. After serious runs, in most cases, all plastic and rubber elements fail. The oil pump and bearings fail somewhat less frequently. The condition of the iron (gears, planetary gear, and so on) is highly dependent on the oil and operating conditions. If the owner did not like to change oils and liked to press on the gas, then, most likely, there are enough broken places in the box. In general, the box is very simple and maintainable.
CD4E automatic transmission was installed on Ford Escape and Mondeo cars. The reliable, simple and unpretentious four-speed automatic transmission quickly became a hit for engines up to 3 liters.
The electrical part of the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmission control unit is very reliable. The only thing that needs to be replaced during the overhaul of the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmissions is a set of solenoids and a speed sensor.
CD4E automatic transmission for Ford Mondeo and Escape
Over time, their resistance increases, they become clogged with dirt, leading to abnormal operation of the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmissions.
The mechanical part is also very reliable. During a major overhaul, the clutch drums and steel discs are replaced. The first symptom of their failure on the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmissions is the loss of dynamics when the car accelerates.
If one or more mechanisms inside the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmission box fail and the oil becomes clogged with metal or plastic particles, the oil pump may fail
The disappearance of the fourth and second gear knobs on the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmissions when switching the selector lever is a symptom of damage to the brake band. At high mileage and poor condition of the box, increased pressure or vibration occurs inside it, which leads to the destruction of the brake band.
If the overdrive selector mode disappears on the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmissions, this is due to the destruction of the retaining ring.
One of the advantages of the Escape and Mondeo automatic transmissions is that the Ford automatic transmission can be repaired on a lift without dismantling the automatic transmission.
If the car drives for a long time with a worn out brake band, reverse gear may also fail.
Pistons and their rubber construction are a classic problem. Rubber loses its properties over time and ceases to hold pressure.
The planetary row of forward speeds is a weak point in the design of this box. The safety margin does not correspond to the power of the engines and, if driven frequently before the cut-off, the bearings may break. If they break, then their remains are carried by oil through the mechanisms of the box and cause severe damage to it.
The same picture can be obtained if the bearings are operating in oil starvation mode.
Torque converters in this automatic transmission are not the most reliable and quickly deplete their resource, they really do not like operation in case of overheating and lack of oil.
The 5R55N automatic transmission has been used for real powerful American cars: jeeps and full-size powerful sedans like the Ford Explorer, for example.
Gaskets, oil seals and seals are changed at the time of the overhaul of the automatic transmission Explorer.
Brake band of the overdrive mode of the automatic transmission Explorer does not like distortions and vibrations, usually when they fail, they change the bands for reverse gear.

For the electrical part of the automatic transmission Explorer - a solenoid block and a speed sensor. They work in a more loaded mode and fail faster.
The automatic transmission oil pump Explorer has a very weak valve, which is better to change to an analog from the Sonnax company.
DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON REPAINING!
Now you yourself can remove any scratch from the body of your car in just 5 seconds.
In America, a frequent repair is the rebuilding of the torque converter. For them, special repair kits are produced. Torque converter failure is typical most often associated with its slip modes and aggressive driving style. On cars with this automatic transmission, it is recommended to install an additional radiator.
Ford Fiesta is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission Powershift. Powershift is a new generation of transmission that provides economical fuel consumption. Powershift automatic transmissions are 9% more efficient than electro-hydraulic transmissions and are lighter in weight. The Powershift design consists of two separate transmissions, one responsible for shifting the even gears, the other the odd ones. The Powershift scheme is somewhat reminiscent of a manual transmission with a dry clutch, but the computer controls the shifting, manual shifting, possibly using a selector.
Powershift has the same negative points as robotic transmissions. They translate into vibrations and hard gear changes when driving aggressively.

Powershift is a new development and its breakdowns and childhood illnesses have not yet been studied enough. Poor factory firmware of the Powershift control unit greatly reduces driving comfort and quickly destroys the transmission mechanisms. Europe has already solved this problem with an upgraded firmware, but it has not yet reached Russia. So far, Powershift suffers from fast release bearings and oil seals coming out of the stand.
Most modern Ford automatic transmissions are maintenance-free. However, the oil and filter on such boxes still need to be changed. It is not in the rules of Russian motorists to buy a new car every three years. With a timely oil change and compliance with the operating rules of automatic transmissions, Fords live for a very long time and need major repairs after 200,000-250,000 kilometers. It is not possible for a motorist to carry out overhaul operations in Mnevniki without appropriate knowledge and experience, so it is better to entrust it to professionals.
