In detail: do-it-yourself grant automatic transmission repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Hello everyone. You all know that Grants are aggregated by “automatic machines” into which, according to the operation manual, oil is poured that can serve throughout the entire “life” of Lada Granta. Of course, no one or practically no one believes in this, except those who wrote the operating manual.
Most of the "grantmakers" change the oil in automatic transmissions guided by generally accepted concepts. Here, of course, everyone has their own opinion and many nuances, it all depends on the type of oil, operating conditions and the box itself, in general, in short, the replacement should be done at least after 50-60 thousand kilometers. Again, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that there is no single rule for everyone, everything depends on many factors. It happens that changing the oil in the Grant machine is necessary much earlier, this can be understood by the state of the oil itself, if it is too dark or you have doubts about its condition and you are not the first owner, then I think it is better not to risk it and change the fluid in the automatic transmission.
In my article today, I will try to tell you in as much detail as possible about how to change the oil in the automatic transmission Lada Granta completely, and not partially by topping up. After reading, you can easily change the oil in your Grants vending machine and save your hard-earned money.
- Automatic transmission oil. In this matter, everyone chooses based on their own considerations, many pour "Nissan". You need to take oil with a margin, you will need at least 5-8 liters;
- Automatic transmission pan gasket (code 31397 3MX0A);
- Copper washer (code 1102601M02);
- Automatic transmission filter (code 31728 3MX0A). It is desirable to change it, although many people just manage to flush it, and some do not touch it at all, it all depends on the mileage.

- Container for draining old oil;
- A watering can and several pieces of hose;
- Lots of rags that do not leave lint;
- Key at "19", "10" and hex at "5";
- Observation pit or lift.
- The first step is to remove all unnecessary and what may interfere with the work process. So you need to remove the air filter box together with the air supply pipe. Loosen the adsorber valve hose, and remove the valve itself from the air housing. You should get something like the one in the photo.
- Then we climb under the car or raise it if there is a lift. We dismantle the plastic apron and all the protection it has, that is, we provide ourselves with free access to the pallet and drain neck, in general, to the entire checkpoint.
- Unscrew the drain plug with the key on “19”, having previously installed a container for draining the oil under this hole. After that, we twist the cork.
- Pour the same amount of oil into the dipstick hole that you have drained, for this use a watering can with a long hose.
- Now we disconnect the return hose and lengthen it by extension using suitable tubes and hoses. Next, we put on a long hose on the box return connection itself, on the one from which the hose was just removed. We lower both hoses into a container to drain the oil.
- An assistant is required to complete the next step.
Its task is to start the engine (the gear selector is in the “N” position) and, at your command, quickly turn it off.
Your task: as soon as the oil flows out in time, notice how clean oil (lighter color) will pour from the hose connected to the box fitting, you need to give the command “Turn off the engine!”. This usually takes 5 to 10 seconds.
- Now you can connect the return hose to the fitting, that is, into place.
- Again, unscrew the drain plug and drain a little oil.
- Then turn off the pallet with the head on “10”.
- Unscrew the box filter with the same head. It is recommended to mark which bolt from which socket.
- We wash the pallet and wipe it dry. We install a new filter or an old one if it is not necessary to replace it. We put the pallet and tighten the drain plug, having previously installed a new copper washer under it.
- Next, we measure the amount of drained oil and fill in the same amount of pure oil.
- We start the engine, warm it up to operating temperature, and then set the gear selector one by one to each position with a delay of 10 seconds.
- Finally, turn on “neutral” and check the oil level “for hot”, that is, when the engine is fully warmed up, the oil level should correspond to the “HOT” mark. If there is less oil, add, if more, using a syringe and a hose of a suitable diameter, pull out the excess.
After the oil in the automatic transmission Lada Granta is replaced, we assemble everything in the reverse order, put the filter housing in place and screw all the sensors and pipes into place. We also fasten the protection, etc.
As you can see, changing the oil in the Lada Grant automatic box is not difficult, almost everyone can repeat all the above steps, the main thing is to have the desire and everything necessary for this. That's all for me, I would be grateful for the comments and repost of this article in the social. networks. Thank you all for your attention, until we meet again at the VAZ Repair.
It was the JF414E automatic transmission that the designers of Lada Grants chose for installation on the luxury versions of these budget cars.
Initially, it was planned to complete the grants with "automatic machines" from a more eminent manufacturer - the Japanese company Aisin AW60-40. But, despite the fact that at that time this box was considered morally obsolete, its cost was still higher than that of the JF414E of another Japanese manufacturer - Jatko.It was this fact, and not the reliability of the automatic transmission, that determined the choice of Russian automakers. At one time, these boxes were also installed on Almeri (and, moreover, exclusively on Russian-assembled Almeri), but over time they were nevertheless replaced by similar Aisin boxes. So today JF414E is installed only on domestically produced cars.
The problem lies elsewhere: the Jatka box is much less common, and therefore spare parts for it, if you decide to repair the Lada Granta automatic transmission not in the VAZ-branded service, may not be at the master's hand. But this is not a problem either: any components for this box can be easily purchased at almost any spare parts store that sells components for Russian cars.
The first thing grant holders have to deal with when it comes to automatic transmissions is an oil change. And this despite the fact that the manufacturer of the automatic transmission claims that the oil in these boxes does not need to be changed throughout their entire service life. However, according to the car service masters, this is not the case.
With systematic overloads of the automatic transmission (and, given the small power of VAZ engines, this happens often), the transmission fluid becomes contaminated quite quickly - by the end of the first hundred thousand km. mileage of the car. It is at this moment that the first replacement should be made.
Most mechanics are convinced that these automatic transmissions are not capricious and not particularly sensitive to the brand of oil. Say, they can be filled not only with oils recommended by the manufacturer, but also their numerous analogues. On the one hand, this is true: both the JF414E valve body and its mechanical component will not suffer from this at all, but the contacts of the solenoids (valve body valves) at the same time begin to oxidize much faster, which very soon leads to transmission malfunctions. In this case, an experienced foreman will immediately determine what the problem is and that on the JF414E automatic transmission, the repair will consist in cleaning the valve contacts and, in general, in checking the operability of the transmission electronics.
Oddly enough, but it is the wiring that is the weakest point of this box. Apparently, the quality of the Russian car assembly affects. The most common faults are:
- Oxidation of solenoid contacts;
- Violation of wire insulation;
- Broken wires and cable ties.
Fortunately, all of these faults are easily remedied. The main thing is to understand the reason for the automatic transmission failure and this is done by the method of computer diagnostics of the car.
The difficulty here is as follows: the VAZ ECU does not have the function of storing transmission errors, therefore, if these errors appear and disappear, it turns out to be impossible to calculate the faulty unit, guided by the information received from the control unit. The malfunction has to be literally "caught", which is not so easy to do in a car service. But the master can't ride with the owners of the car, waiting for the box to "fail"?
Therefore, the masters solve this problem in a very original way: the car is installed on a lift - so that its wheels do not touch the ground - and in this position the transmission is tested in all modes - from idle engine speed to reverse gear. As a result, the breakdown manifests itself in one way or another and the master finds the faulty unit.
In addition to the wiring, it may turn out to be a valve body that is out of order due to the same low-quality oil. So, oil clots, coupled with contaminants that have got into the transmission fluid, clog the valve body channels through which oil circulates, as a result of which failures occur when switching to a particular gear. Repair of the automatic transmission of Grant in this case consists in disassembling the valve body and thoroughly flushing it.
Simultaneously with cleaning the parts of the valve body from contamination, the master carries out their fault finding, that is, determines which of them have undergone excessive wear. If there are too many of them, then the repair of the automatic transmission may simply turn out to be unprofitable and for the automatic transmission of Grant, the replacement will, from an economic point of view, be the optimal solution.
As an alternative to the original VAZ automatic transmission, you can install a four-speed automatic transmission Aisin, similar in its parameters, to a car. True, it costs a little more than the Jatka one, but if you are traveling in your car across Europe, such a replacement is quite logical. After all, if Grants had a transmission breakdown not in Russia, it would not be easy to find the spare parts required for its repair in European countries.
In the Lada Granta car, a 4-speed automatic transmission from Jatco JF414E (AY-K3) with electronic control is used.
The automatic transmission has a torque converter lock-up mode in 3rd and 4th gear. It is determined by the drop in revolutions in the corresponding gears.
There is protection against overheating, which is triggered above 114C, while the “gear” lights up on the tidy, but you can go, everything below is considered the norm.
At negative temperatures, it is recommended not to start driving immediately, you need to hold the car with the brake and drive the selector in all modes for at least a couple of minutes. The box is warmed up by the engine and when driving with a lock. Until the box warms up, higher gears (4th to 40C) and blocking of the gas turbine will not turn on.
The automatic transmission is controlled by its own ECU in a sealed case, it is located on the left under the headlight in the direction of travel. The box ECU interacts with the engine ECU and other nodes via a common CAN bus.
Only the Parking mode is mechanically activated, other modes are activated by the ECU. You should not turn on the Parking lot with significant slopes and other loads, it is better to use the handbrake.
Button “O / D OFF” (Overdrive Off) in the on state prohibits the connection of the fourth, highest gear. When the button is pressed, the automatic machine is three-stage. In the normal (main) automatic transmission mode, the car loses a little in dynamics, but the fuel consumption decreases.
When it is recommended to use the main mode (O / D ON):
one.with uniform movement at high speed (on highways, on high-speed sections)
2.At speeds above 70 km / h (fuel consumption decreases, revs drop)
3.Many generally recommend never turning off O / D, except for those cases when fast acceleration is required (for example, to overtake someone or actively drive through the city during rush hour).
Supplier Automatic transmission Lada Granta became the famous Japanese company JATCO. For those who are not in the know, the transmissions of this manufacturer are installed on almost all popular car models: Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, Subaru, Suzuki, Volkswagen, BMW, etc. Now Lada Granta has also appeared in this list.
The first Lada cars with automatic transmission rolled off the assembly line in 2012, at the same time their sale started. The cost of the car was about 400 thousand rubles. For this money, a motorist gets a car with a 1.6-liter engine and 98 horsepower.
The process of integrating the Japanese gearbox with the Togliatti Lada engine was very difficult. To coordinate the operation of these units, domestic engineers had to turn to their Austrian colleagues for help. Many settings of the Japanese automatic transmission had to be abandoned, since the box with them was too slow. As a result, VAZ specialists, together with the Austrian company AVL, nevertheless managed to eliminate all the flaws in the system and successfully make friends with the JATCO transmission with the Lada engine.
Today, about 50,000 cars are sold annually Lada with a gun... In addition to Grants, later the automatic transmission was also installed on Kalina. Needless to say, the reliability of the JATCO transmission itself, if it is equipped with many world famous car models. According to the results of numerous test drives and owner reviews, it can be stated that the quality and reliability of automatic transmission Grant provided at a high level. The domestic auto industry has finally managed to create a really high-quality product.
With the installation of an automatic transmission, the factory assembly of Grants has undergone some changes. So, due to the increase in the weight of the car, stiffer springs were installed. The ground clearance also decreased from 160 mm to 140.
Scheme of an automatic box Lada
Lada Grant box has automatic transmission operating modes, which are classic for the "automatic machine":
D - moving the car forward
2 - forward movement limited to 2nd gear
1 - forward movement limited to 1st gear
A reliable automatic machine from the Japanese manufacturer JATCO, model JF 414E, is installed on Grant. What is noteworthy is that this unit is installed on the Nissan Almera and March, which have an engine capacity of up to 1.6 liters. There have never been any serious complaints about the JF414E, which is why AvtoVAZ engineers made a choice in its favor. The valve body is quite reliable and not very common in service shops. All you need is to change the oil and filter on time, although officially this is not necessary, but we still recommend.
It is still difficult to find reviews of owners on the network who have passed at least 100,000 km, because often this indicator speaks of the reliability of the box. Nevertheless, we have collected several reviews on Lada Granta automatic transmission (click on review to open full size).
It is indicative that Avtovaz does not independently carry out warranty repairs of the JATCO gearbox. The transmission is completely changed to a new one, and the faulty box is sent to the manufacturer for diagnostics and elimination of the breakdown.
Lada Granta is a new modern car that recently rolled off the assembly line of AvtoVAZ. The newest Lada Granta automatic transmission problems are still in test mode. The machine is equipped with two types of gearboxes. The first is a mechanical, 5-speed, differential, equipped with a main gear. Other models are equipped with an automatic transmission.
Of course, many drivers are always interested in what problems may arise with the car and its parts.Today, on the roads of our country, Lada Granta is more and more noticeable. Repair of the automatic transmission installed on the Lada Granta is becoming quite relevant. We can say that the automatic transmission is one of the most expensive parts of a car. Replacing an automatic transmission on a used car sometimes costs almost half the price of the Lada Grant itself.
In older cars, frequent breakdowns involve the gearbox. This is the weakest link. The automatic transmission may fail at any time. Box repair is always very difficult and time consuming, it is expensive. However, if you provide Lada with proper care, then her automatic transmission will work reliably and will not require repair for a long period. Most of all, the automatic transmission is afraid of overheating.
This often happens under heavy load. When Lada Granta is in an overheated state, the oil seals get very hot. Gaskets begin to leak due to loss of elasticity. Deformation of automatic transmission parts occurs, they quickly break. As a result, this reliable unit requires major overhaul.
You can diagnose automatic transmission malfunction while driving
Failure of the automatic transmission or its malfunction is quickly detected when the car is moving. The first characteristic signs are:
- strong jerks;
- the transfer does not turn on;
- oil flows;
- the indicator flashes.
These signs require immediate attention and repair. Some malfunctions of the gearbox of the Lada Granta car can be eliminated by an experienced motorist. Basically, we are talking about the simplest operations:
- elimination of oil leakage;
- spontaneous gear shifting.
Perhaps the problem lies in the connection of wires and contacts. Repair of the Lada Grant box will come down only to cleaning the contacts.
Is it possible to tow a car with automatic transmission? Many believe that it is impossible to tow a broken Lada Granta on a cable. This is true, but towing is possible under certain conditions.
If you drive at a speed of no more than 50 km / h at a distance of 25 km, then the front-wheel drive Lada Granta car will feel great. One hour after cooling down, you can continue towing. Four-wheel drive vehicles cannot be towed.
Most often, motorists have to deal with frequently occurring characteristic malfunctions.
The car does not move forward. Moreover, the inclusion of reverse gear does not cause problems. The cause may be a breakage of the friction discs or a ruptured piston cuff. Perhaps the O-rings have broken or the valve that regulates the gearshift is simply jammed.
To cope with the defect, it is necessary to replace and install other clutches. Replace all oil seals and install other O-rings. In addition, the valve needs to be cleaned.
If the Lada Granta is unable to move backward, there is no third gear, it means that the clutch that regulates the forward movement has failed, or the cuff attached to the piston that includes the forward travel has broken. In addition, if severe wear appears, then the sealing rings, the front clutch have been destroyed, or the splined mechanism that secures the sun gear has simply been cut off.
The repair consists in the fact that it is necessary to install other friction discs and install new oil seals, install new O-rings. All unusable parts must be replaced.
It happens that it is impossible to turn on the reverse gear. This means that the brake band has completely worn out or the cuff has broken. A malfunctioning piston rod must also be considered.
The repair consists in replacing the brake band, cuff and the rod itself.
It happens that there is no movement. This can cause the following breakdowns:
- the hydraulic transformer is out of order;
- the oil pump has failed;
- insufficient amount of oil;
- the filter mesh is clogged.
- the friction discs are broken;
- defect in the brake band;
- the cuff is torn;
- O-rings are broken;
- the valve responsible for the first speed is stuck.
In this case, a new hydraulic transformer must be installed.If the matter is in the oil pump, you need to remove the bolts securing the GT, together with the flywheel. Between them it is necessary to install spacers with a thickness of 2 mm. Tighten the bolts dead.
It is necessary to start the car, add oil to make the volume correspond to the upper limit, flare the filter. Thoroughly flush the mesh; if it becomes unusable, install another filter.
You can dismantle the brake band, install a new one. Install other discs on the brake clutch. Put on good cuffs. Fit new O-rings and clean the valve after disassembly.
Sometimes the car is stationary, but when the gear is engaged, a strong jolt is felt. The car slips and continues to stand. This means that the hydraulic transformer has broken or the volume of automatic transmission oil is too low. The oil filter may be clogged. You just need to install a new torque converter and just add gear oil to the correct level. And, of course, clean the filter.
