Almost three years ago I got my hands on a Thule Pacific 780 box. It's time to share my impressions.
Boxing has had many challenges.He traveled all over Central Asia, shook along the Pamir Highway, gathered dust on the graders of Ustyurt, roasted in the sun of Uzbekistan, visited the Mongolian regions, traveled from the Kola Peninsula to Everest ... Of course, all these trips he performed his direct duties - he took yourself?) the bulk of things.
As you remember, I use the salon as a bedroom, and therefore there should be a minimum of things. Therefore, all spare clothing, shoes, tents, etc. not particularly heavy objects on trips live in the box. And in China, two canisters were also successfully hiding from the vigilant police there. I cannot somehow determine the maximum weight, but I do not think that it has ever much exceeded 50 kilograms. However, even this weight and hard roads were enough to cause problems, albeit small ones. So, first things first ...
Problem 1. After being hit by a severe sandstorm in Western Kazakhstan, the boxing lock opened with great difficulty. The reason for this was the sand, which was packed everywhere, including in the castle itself. By the way, there was almost no sand in the box itself. Cured by blowing the locks. Locking mechanism and VD-40 grease. No more jamming.
Problem 2. After a trip to Tibet, two small cracks appeared in the places where the bottom of the box rested on the plastic ends of the crossbars. I think that this is the reason for the section of the "road" (I cannot write about this place without quotation marks) between Atyrau and the Kazakhstan-Russia border crossing. A couple of times, all along the way, I got there in sooooo serious holes. Most likely, this is how these cracks appeared. And after all, the plastic plugs protrude quite a bit, but nevertheless, it was in these places that the box was cracked. The harsh Kazakh roads do not like jokes ...
Before the trip to Mongolia, I whipped up a small reinforcement in the form of metal plates riveted to the bottom of the box. Now the places of potential contact between the plastic plugs and the box are protected. A trip to Mongolia showed the viability and reliability of the design.
Problem 3. Don't trust car washers! I had the foolishness to trust a normal, as it seemed at first glance, washer when driving into a rather low box and paid that the back of my luggage box did not quite fit into the dimensions of the gate. As a result - a large crack across the entire back.
By the way, Thule's plastic is still excellent - it cracked and crumpled, and then snapped into place. The crack was repaired today. Soldered with brass mesh. It turned out very well, solidly.

Bottom line. Reliable, comfortable, durable. Dust almost does not pass, does not pass water at all. If loaded with things, it does not make noise. Empty - rattles like a drum ...
