Autobox repair (thule) made of plastic is our professional service - technicians regularly deal with restoration of car boxes different manufacturers.
We return the lost shape and integrity of the cracked autoboxes... Car carriers from different manufacturers are made by vacuum forming and the main material of the product is abs plastic, which has a top surface either glossy black or shagreen gray.
Peculiarity trunk repair tule consists in a non-standard repair technology.Restoration plastic boxes occurs by welding hot air at a certain temperature on specialized equipment, which ensures a high-quality connection of the cracked parts of the box.
The importance lies in the correct selection of the temperature regime, due to the thickness of the plastic boxing only 2.5 mm.With inaccurately chosen technology (overheating of the material) will lead to a sad appearance of the trunk.
Our master will carry out thule trunk restoration on the day of the call and possibly with you, the repair itself is not long, about 1.5 hours.
Trunk repair thule this is not a minor repair, since the product consists not only of a plastic case, but also of stiffening ribs that fail.
We know all the problem areas car trunk made of plastic thule... An approximate determination of the cost of repairs is possible from a photograph sent to us through the application, or by mail.

Need advice on repairing the box (trunk on the trunk). When I drove the car from garage to garage (there was still a car), I forgot that the box was not fixed, and it was blown away! =)
As a result, a crack appeared on the lid - do you have any ideas how to repair it with minimal cosmetic interventions from the outside? =)
If possible, cook from the inside. Outside, a neat putty with painting, if appropriate.
Contact bumper repairmen, they can be soldered from the inside without brackets. and on the outside, cover it with vinyl with an actual, for you, plot ..)
Volt , I thought about this, but the place of the soldering will be fragile = (I'm afraid that it will break in the process
AND, I already thought - asking for money is unrealistic. easier yourself =)))

AND, I already thought - asking for money is unrealistic. easier yourself =)))
- we glue the crack beforehand
- we take a metal mesh and a hot air gun and carefully warming up the reinforcement (or pass a weak current through the mesh (to heat it), but through a latter / rheostat and “wearing rubber gloves.” Well, you understand))
- you can try to gently solder with a soldering iron from the inside, apply a "mesh" with it and on top of the mesh, for example, zapoksipolit with reinforcement.
- You can heat and solder metal stiffening ribs
AND, so what are you doing tomorrow? =) We can go to the garage - you will see for yourself =)))
On Sunday I can. Or tonight. (I will be in the region tomorrow).
Andrey, and what kind of plastic of the box, I mean, will it have adhesion to the epoxy? As respected Volt and AND correctly noted, glue the crack, maybe. putty on the outside. And from the inside, put a “spot” of fiberglass, impregnated with epoxy with a good margin to the right and left of the crack. It can be glued in several layers, and reinforced with a metal mesh between the layers. As a result, you will get a textolite tire - a durable and moderately elastic thing.
Julian , extruded polyethylene, IMHO. so not sure if the epoxy will take it. can dissolve it in a solvent in what, and glue it? =) I tend to the option - to solder and paint =))
For each type of plastic, there are rods, they melt with a thermal gun (they are used by those who close up the bumpers), apply a layer, then a mesh, then melt it - you can bluntly with a soldering iron into this layer, then another layer on top, and so I think epoxy and fiberglass, several layers, for adhesion, sand with a coarse sandpaper
Now it is possible to use boxing Mont Blanc, but the box is locked and there is no key.
Tell me, can anyone come across how to open it to replace the lock larva?

Ha! This is to other "specialists", to their forum, if there is one. We had a topic somewhere about who does what, why I didn’t see such specialists there among our tubers.
But seriously, there is a door opening service, for them it is a job at once. It is clear that you will have to pay money, but an independent initiative without the proper skill can result in mechanical breakdowns (IMHO).
There is a door opening service, for them this is a job at times.
This is exactly what I used when the lock in the apartment broke. I called the Ministry of Emergency Situations, they gave me the phone number of their regular bugbear.

“I just raced with a cargo box in the underground parking. “Managers of the online store of roof racks and accessories often hear this phrase from their customers who purchased a roof box in this store. Of course, it's easy to forget that you have a large cargo box on top of your already tall vehicle when trying to sneak into underground garages and parking lots. Moreover, one of our consultants also once fell for his forgetfulness, having taken by storm the entrance gate of an underground parking in a shopping center (just don't ask him about it). The car boxes of the American company Yakima are made of lightweight but durable ABS plastic that can withstand relatively strong loads.Reinforced lid rigidity (50 times higher than other luggage system manufacturers) is resistant to impact and external damage. Therefore, if the body of the cargo box on the roof of the car collides with an obstacle, you will avoid complete destruction of the box (unless this happened at extremely low temperatures), but the surface will receive several scratches and chips.
Most damaged autoboxes will have one or two cracks ranging in length from a few centimeters to a meter or more, or one or two holes. In the service center of our company, a specialist will inspect the building and make a decision whether the structure is subject to repair. Some holes and cracks are simply too large to be repaired. Occasionally, strikes strike the most “sensitive” areas of the body, thereby compromising the structural integrity of the box. If so, your only recourse is to buy a new box.
If your accessory needs to be restored, then we accept it for inspection by the master, who makes an estimate of the cost of restoration work. Our specialists have been trained directly at Yakima, adopting all methods of repairing cargo boxes. Initially (at the end of the 90s) the company used ABS “patches” for the repair, i.e. cut pieces of ABS plastic, which were literally “implanted” into holes or cracks using ABS cement. This could be called a good solution, but the service life of the case restored in this way did not exceed a couple of years. And the appearance turned out to be very unaesthetic. The ABS patch was replaced by a fiberglass patch. Many repairmen still use this method for really large holes, but we prefer not to. Fiberglass is suitable for repairing canoes and kayaks, but the connection of fiberglass with ABS plastic does not last long: no more than three years. The repair site begins to peel off, the painted fragments look unattractive.
Our main box repair method today, developed a few years ago, uses a compound called Re-Plast, which is similar to an epoxy bonding agent. However, unlike epoxy, Re-Plast hardens to plastic. The work is done quickly because the material hardens in just three and a half minutes.
Our company is proud of its achievements in this direction, but remember that the chances are still small that your roof box will look like new. The so-called “scar” will still remain at the repair site. Re-plast works well on matte black surfaces, but glossy box lids must be painted over. The specialists of the online store's service center will select the appropriate color as closely as possible (possibly with the help of car paint) or offer an option for applying an airbrush drawing to the damaged area, with which you can achieve ideal masking of the repaired fragments of the case.
Remember that driving at high speed with a damaged or cracked roof box is dangerous for other road users, the more the crack will only get bigger.
Raise your eyes, passerby. You and I are so alike!

Colleagues, I ask for advice. The other day, brushing off the snow from the autobox in the morning, I found the cover literally split. It is unlikely that this happened due to temperature changes - not those frosts today, most likely something fell, perhaps a piece of well-packed snow. It would seem that this is a reason to change boxing, but alas. Due to being in deep financial. uh, yame, this option is not yet feasible. It remains to fix.
Now, attention - the question: what can be done with the lid? What can be quickly repaired? Maybe someone has a similar experience - share it, I will be very grateful.
Most likely they will help you where they repair bumpers, you can study the topic of repair on YouTube, if your hands are "very skillful"

box of what material? if any kind of plastic, look in the direction of dichloroethane. Working with him is troublesome for many reasons, but there is one big plus - “glues” tightly.

Tera drive boxes fly in the cold.
Checked on personal experience (in the company there are 3 zafira and 2 largus with such boxes. 4 of them were changed under warranty, and one is still alive.) (Half a year warranty)
I myself use the Atlas and for 2.5 years there were no complaints, I got a tenacious one.
You can met. sew with a wire, then solder it, and then clean / putty / paint. So before the bumper was repaired.
Can be filled with epoxy.
You can glue it together and glue it with good (eg 3M) reinforced tape from the inside.
.
In general, I agree, but just not to sew, but to make staples, do not fill with epoxy, but glue on the back side with a strip of ABS plastic or polycarbonate (not cellular), well, or put blind rivets on the back
then clean out the outside, putty and paint.
At work, we often do this kind of thing.
Only the crack at both ends needs to be drilled!

Car box is a modern, durable and reliable roof rack. Wardrobe trunk is a device for every taste and car, for any purpose. Leaders in car box manufacturers create roof racks that can withstand high and low temperatures, rain and snow. However, even this miracle of the automotive world is subject to breakdown due to an accident or other troubles. Someone forgot about the roof rack available on the roof and drove at speed into an underground garage or parking lot. It is bad memory, in most cases, that causes damage to autoboxes.
Car boxes from good renowned manufacturers that you can rent, in such situations, get off with only scratches and chips. The fact is that their shock resistance is fifty times higher than the strength of autoboxes of low-quality manufacturers. Unfortunately, at very low temperatures, the consequences are often worse.
So, most of the damaged autoboxes will have 1-2 cracks ranging in size from a few centimeters to a meter (a little more) or 1-2 holes. Autobox repair is carried out by car service specialists. The case is repaired by heat sealing using various materials. There are several types of repairs, the "oldest" of which is the implantation of ABS patches with ABS cement into cracks and other damaged areas. This method is no longer used by professionals, due to the subsequent unaesthetic type of boxing and the short shelf life of such patches (two years).
The next method is to implant a fiberglass patch. This method was originally used for repairing canoes and boats (three years).
The main, most acceptable and modern way of repairing damaged autoboxes is with the help of a Re-Plast compound, which is similar to an epoxy binder. This method appeared several years ago and, today, is the most successful. In the process of work, the substance hardens and turns into plastic - the material of the autobox itself. Moreover, this process is carried out in less than 4 minutes. Record-breaking fast procedure! The external consequences of what happened to the trunk will be minimal - a small "scar". This renovation option is ideal for matte autoboxes. Glossy trunks will have to be dyed. After this procedure, the box will be like new.
If the autobox is damaged, its further operation is undesirable. This, firstly, is dangerous for other road users, and secondly, it contributes to an increase in damage in size. By noticing the damage and taking immediate action, you minimize the scale of the work and the consequences of the damage. A service in which repairs are carried out with subsequent painting will provide you with a guarantee. This procedure is carried out using all the necessary tools in record time and little money. Repairing a damaged autobox is in any case cheaper than buying a new one. The restored wardrobe trunk will retain the qualities declared by the manufacturer - it will not let water and dust pass through.

I thought to myself to take the box to the roof. Thule most likely.
As a matter of fact, there are several questions.
-How well is the anti-theft protection implemented? I have nowhere to store this box, so I plan to keep it on the car all the time, how easy is it to steal by removing it from the mounts?
- Are the locks on the box itself normal?

369 right. In principle, on all boxes the locks are the same, it closes in 3 places at once., And even if the box is opened in a barbaric way, it cannot be used later. Thule itself doesn't need the best. All attention should be paid to the trunk. There is a huge field of activity here, depending on the design. I took it simpler, on bolts, so that it would be possible to either roll the nuts, or jam the threads on the bolts. It seems that vandal-proof trunks are also sold, but you have to talk to the seller.
I bought it myself in Moscow time on the market, if you need to be more precise, knock on the PM. There it comes out 30-50% cheaper than Smolensk, and the choice is huge, they let you try on what would be prettier, they bargain. (so it was 3 years ago)

Hello, friends! Let's digress a little from car trailers and talk about solutions such as Thule autoboxes. This Swedish firm is recognized as one of the best in the world, as evidenced by customer reviews and expert conclusions.
Such boxes can be bought almost everywhere, since in the cities of Novosibirsk, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg and Volgograd, for example, if you don’t find an official representative near you, then any car accessories store always offers the products of this company.
The only question is which car rack you decide to buy and install on the roof of your car. This is how they compare favorably with conventional trailers.
Often, buying roof boxes turns out to be much more profitable than buying or renting a light trailer. It all depends on how spacious your car is and how much cargo you need to transport.
Thule is a Swedish designer and manufacturer of ski and snowboard bindings, trailers, roof rails, car boxes and other accessories for virtually any vehicle in the world.
The company has many certificates and technologies that they use in the manufacture of their products. High quality, customer acceptance and excellent technical performance enable Thule to work closely with the world's leading car manufacturers. In particular, the Swedes work with:
I will not praise the company for a long time. Almost everyone knows about it. Interestingly, literally every second car I see with a roof box uses Thule. It says a lot.
If you look through the catalogs of the company's products, you will find a fairly large number of names and titles, such as:
- Ocean 200;
- Pacific 200;
- Pacific 780;
- Motion 600;
- Atlantis 200;
- Motion XT XL (Motion 800), etc.
All this is a little misleading and does not make it clear what we are dealing with and what is better to take in order to transport bags, skis, snowboards or some other types of cargo there.
I propose to understand the assortment a little. You can also visit their official website to take a closer look at literally every autobox that can be bought from this Swedish company today. Each luggage carrier is made at the highest level, of which there is absolutely no doubt.
Will it be white, black or some kind of red box, the question is already secondary. First you need to understand what Thule makes and how the different car carriers differ from each other.
Agree that it is very profitable to use the car to the maximum of its capabilities. Someone mounts ski and snowboard bindings, others prefer special expeditionary racks, and still others put a tent on the roof of the car.
To begin with, the entire Thule range of autoboxes is divided into several series. Namely:
Some are inexpensive, while others belong to a more elite and expensive category. Let's look at them separately, and you will understand which option is better to give preference to in a given situation.
Additionally, I note that it is correct to buy a new car trunk, and not a used one. In the case of a used model, repairs may be required that are not easy to deal with. Buy in trusted stores and check the information from the official website.
A series of high quality roof boxes with exemplary design and thoughtful internal ergonomics. The transported items are reliably protected from weather influences and thieves.
The range of roof racks is offered in different sizes, from compact to large enough and roomy.
Here, the FastClick fastening stop is used, with which you can easily attach the rack to any type of roof rack. The limitation applies to transverse arcs up to 90 mm wide.
Also worth noting is the Dual Force opening system, which will allow you to easily open and close the lid with minimal effort. The set also includes a central lock, which closes the trunk with one turn at the same time at several points.
Available in several variations:
Not the cheapest, but high quality and reliable series.
The top series of Swedish-made autoboxes among the entire range of products on offer.
They used a unique two-tone design, a glossy surface and smooth, neat lines. The shape is highly aerodynamic, so that the roof box does not interfere with the normal acceleration of the car.
In addition to the appearance, the luggage racks are supplemented with all the necessary accessories, components, a protection system and a convenient lid opening system.
The name itself speaks of dynamism and speed. A special series of premium class autoboxes, which compares favorably with competitors with its lines, shapes and aerodynamic solutions.
Among the entire Thule range, it is here that experts note the lowest noise level while driving and the best aerodynamics. All this is complemented by an exquisite design that can decorate any car.
Previously, they released versions 800 and 900, but then they were renamed Dynamic M and L, respectively.
A relatively new line of boxes. These roof racks are in the budget category. However, they are not devoid of the main advantages in the form of excellent quality and attractive appearance.
The affordable price makes the purchase of the Ocean series boxes even more profitable, since not everyone can afford top-end solutions.
Here the manufacturer used a new patented fastening system called Easy Snap. With it, installation has become easier and faster.
There are 6 variants of the Ocean series.
Previously, Thule offered the Motion series. But it became outdated, began to gradually lose its relevance, and therefore the Swedes created a replacement in the form of Motion XT.
Updated in 2017, the series received an improved design, aerodynamic handles for easier opening of the box, as well as thoughtful ergonomics.
There were no cardinal changes, since the previous series had a wide list of advantages. The engineers just added some modern solutions and improved the design. At the same time, prices remained at an average adequate level.
Functional and reliable autoboxes, which can also be classified as budget solutions.
The Touring's predecessor was the Pacific series we've already reviewed. Again, the developers have improved the design, improved the fastening system, and made it easier to open and close the lid.
The pinpoint refinements have been beneficial, allowing consumers to now enjoy improved quality and easier operation.
Also note that Thule offers a series of padded boxes called the Ranger and ski constructions called the Flow.
Each specific model, which belongs to a particular series, has some differences in size, configuration and organization of the internal space. Therefore, I advise you to carefully study all the nuances and choose what suits your specific car and individual requirements.

Almost three years ago I got my hands on a Thule Pacific 780 box. It's time to share my impressions.
Boxing has had many challenges. He traveled all over Central Asia, shook along the Pamir Highway, gathered dust on the graders of Ustyurt, roasted in the sun of Uzbekistan, visited the Mongolian regions, traveled from the Kola Peninsula to Everest ... Of course, all these trips he performed his direct duties - he took yourself?) the bulk of things.
As you remember, I use the salon as a bedroom, and therefore there should be a minimum of things. Therefore, all spare clothing, shoes, tents, etc. not particularly heavy objects on trips live in the box. And in China, two canisters were also successfully hiding from the vigilant police there. I cannot somehow determine the maximum weight, but I do not think that it has ever much exceeded 50 kilograms. However, even this weight and hard roads were enough to cause problems, albeit small ones. So, first things first ...
Problem 1. After being hit by a severe sandstorm in Western Kazakhstan, the boxing lock opened with great difficulty. The reason for this was the sand, which was packed everywhere, including in the castle itself. By the way, there was almost no sand in the box itself. Cured by blowing the locks. Locking mechanism and VD-40 grease. No more jamming.
Problem 2. After a trip to Tibet, two small cracks appeared in the places where the bottom of the box rested on the plastic ends of the crossbars. I think that this is the reason for the section of the "road" (I cannot write about this place without quotation marks) between Atyrau and the Kazakhstan-Russia border crossing. A couple of times, all along the way, I got there in sooooo serious holes. Most likely, this is how these cracks appeared. And after all, the plastic plugs protrude quite a bit, but nevertheless, it was in these places that the box was cracked. The harsh Kazakh roads do not like jokes ...
Before the trip to Mongolia, I whipped up a small reinforcement in the form of metal plates riveted to the bottom of the box. Now the places of potential contact between the plastic plugs and the box are protected. A trip to Mongolia showed the viability and reliability of the design.
Problem 3. Don't trust car washers! I had the foolishness to trust a normal, as it seemed at first glance, washer when driving into a rather low box and paid that the back of my luggage box did not quite fit into the dimensions of the gate. As a result - a large crack across the entire back.
By the way, Thule's plastic is still excellent - it cracked and crumpled, and then snapped into place. The crack was repaired today. Soldered with brass mesh. It turned out very well, solidly.
Video (click to play). |
Bottom line. Reliable, comfortable, durable. Dust almost does not pass, does not pass water at all. If loaded with things, it does not make noise. Empty - rattles like a drum ... Does not affect fuel consumption and directional stability. I'm very happy with boxing. Now let's see how it will withstand the test of the northern cold ...
