There is no difficulty in replacing the stabilizer struts, provided you have a tool, a bright head and hands growing from the right place.

A pit is not needed to replace the stanchions.

Purely theoretically, if on 2 sensors the temperature is OK, and on the other it is very different, then the ECU may think that there is a short circuit on one of the transducers. Hence the short circuit error on the heater.
This is just a guess! Haven't tested it yet!
