Do-it-yourself brown teapot repair

In detail: do-it-yourself repair of brown teapots from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

After two years of operation, the Braun WK-210 kettle broke down: the power button is not fixed, acc. does not turn on / off.

How I disassembled:
- 4 screws at the base
- disconnected the connectors from the heating element
- 3 screws - switch and base connector disconnected from heating element

Now it is not clear how to disassemble the handle, which contains the problem area (some kind of traction)?
Thank you.

deniis, if you look closely, you can see that the handle consists of two parts (along it there is a seam), you click the latches along this seam. You need to start from the bottom of the handle. When you remove the upper half, you will see metal pins on the top right and left of the handle, and you remove them up and then everything becomes clear. The second half of the handle is removed and there is this kind of thrust!
Good luck!
ZY More often than not, cravings are torn. Image - DIY repair of teapots brown

Hooray! thanks to the beer genius!
I'll try it in the evening.

Do you know how to repair it?

dron, replace the traction that's all. in my opinion it makes no sense to take a steam bath with its repair. she's not worth it!

can I get it in Moscow? And how much can it cost?

Tomorrow I will call the service centers Image - DIY repair of teapots brown

this thrust, as far as I know, is not ordered. The kettle is generally disposable. It remains to repair only in the following way: in the place where the thrust burst, 2 holes are drilled and all this is fastened with 2 wires from a thin stranded wire. A lot of such teapots have already been restored, the very first 2 years ago, they were not brought for repairs (they may have already been thrown away Image - DIY repair of teapots brown

)
By the way, it is not its only malfunction, if you do not clean the scale - the disc heating element swells.

Exactly, two holes and wires

I would make two times two = four holes, two in each plastic.

If the plastic melts well, then you can simply melt it with a soldering iron. I even restored gearboxes in washing machine engines and still work.

Alexzz, you probably haven't seen this detail.
It breaks at the * permanent * fold, so the soldering iron won't work.

Yes, I have not. I'm just saying that I often melt plastics with a soldering iron. Well, at the place of the fold, of course, a soldering iron will not work.

And I use a soldering iron to "fuse" a mesh made of thin wire. It is desirable (even mandatory if there is a “lateral” load) on both sides.

A couple of months ago, a sad event happened in our family: an exceptionally wonderful Braun WK 210 kettle went to the country of good hunting. And this, by the way, is the best kettle model of all I know. Here, on the site "M-Video" buyers praise him exclusively, and personally I am ready to subscribe to every word and at any time. However, as it turned out, these dummies have a birth trauma, which on the forums is formulated something like this: "the power button is not fixed, so the dash does not turn on, it does not turn off" - or, in a simple way, "the thrust has come off the on / off button." Of course, we bought a new kettle (and of course Braun WK 210 again - because they don’t look for good), but all these months I was haunted by the thought of opening the deceased and trying to fix it? And today I could not resist, and having called on the help of a friendly janitor Vovan (who, unlike me, a worthless humanist, worked in the old days as a mechanic at a factory), I did my plan. It turned out to be quite simple, in fact. So, first we need to disassemble the kettle (there are many large and heavy pictures further).

First. It is necessary to remove the bottom.To do this, unscrew four screws: three large ones, lined up in a triangle around the pimp in the center, and one small one, at the edge, securing the handle.

They unscrewed it. We remove the lid, we see something like this:

We don't touch anything here. We now need to break off the handle - which is divided into an inner and an outer part. We start with the outside. We pry it with something flat from the sharp end (there is a latch) - do it once:

Do three (and this is already on top, in the area of the lid and buttons we catch it):

That's it, filmed - Volodya proudly demonstrates the result:

Now you need to remove the rest. We start from the bottom, where this part is again fixed with a latch, you see:

There, from below and a little to the side, we push something, and we hear a loud plastic crunch (crossed out) and carefully snap off:

Moving on to the top. Here, the handle is no longer fixed with latches, but with two such pins - over there, you see, to the left and right of the lid flip button?

We take them out (well, we just stupidly pull towards ourselves - they are without thread, they are simply inserted). They took out:

Well, now the patient is in front of us in all his glory. See this long white crap (that same rod) that runs down the center along the entire body?

As we can observe, in its lower part it is not made as a uniform piece, but is split into two stripes. Which sooner or later will surely break off - thanks to the prudent engineers of the concern. Their prudence is expressed in the fact that after such a breakdown, only two options are possible: either buy a new kettle, or repair it on your own - because Braun does not supply these rods to Russia.

But the Chelyabinsk men are so harsh. In general, you guessed it. Volodya and I made a hole in the pull with a small nail, inserted a wire made of a thin paper clip into it, twisted the ends, and bit off the excess with pliers - because if you don't bite off, then it can start clinging to the handle from the inside, and the kettle will stop automatically turning off after boiling water ... Here, if you please have a look, what happened:

Everything works in the most excellent way after the device is assembled in reverse order, of course. Thanks to Volodya, Braun engineers and me - for this fascinating story. Hope it comes in handy for someone!

In this article, we will try to touch upon the main reasons for the failure of modern household electric kettles, and also show you how you can get rid of some breakdowns on your own.

The main reasons for the breakdown of an electric kettle

1. Burnout of the heating element
The breakdown of the heating element most often occurs due to the deposition of scale on its surface. The scale forms a kind of heat barrier, and the heating coil, instead of giving off heat to the water, heats up itself. Braun engineers partially solved this problem by using a disc heating element. However, it only slows down the formation of scale, but does not prevent its appearance in any way.

2. Break of the thermo-contact plate
This element is responsible for the timely shutdown of the electric kettle after boiling. It is also responsible for blocking the heating element when there is no water in the kettle. By itself, the repair of electric kettles, in which the thermal contact plate broke off, is a simple procedure. However, if you do not make it on time, you can provoke a much more complex breakdown. The device may not turn off after boiling, which is extremely fire hazardous.

3. Leakage
Most Braun kettles have an almost monolithic water container. However, engineers did not manage to get rid of one joint for the sake of using a disc heating element. We are talking about the junction between this very heating element and the plastic container. Over time, with intensive use, slight deformation of the plastic may occur at the place where the heating plate adheres to it.As a result, water from the container begins to leak, creating additional problems in the operation of the device.

4. Broken button
This breakdown, as a rule, makes itself felt only after several years of operation of the device. The nylon thrust is frayed, transmitting the force from the switch located on top to the contact block in the bottom. Repair in such cases consists in replacing a broken rod and takes no more than five minutes.

Not all types of breakdowns require contacting a service center. In some cases, the repair can be done by yourself.

• The kettle heats up slowly or does not heat up at all
The reason lies in the scale formed on the heating element. To restore the device to full functionality, this scale must be removed. To do this, use a store-bought descaler, or make your own by dissolving citric acid crystals in water. Pour the resulting 200-300 g of solution into a kettle and heat to 80-90 ° C. Change the solution and repeat the procedure until the foam reaction stops.

• Does not respond to pressing the power button
One of the most likely reasons for this malfunction is a frayed traction from the power button to the contact block located in the lower part of the case. Repair in such cases is reduced to replacing this rod with a metal one.

• Clogged filter
If the filter is clogged with limescale particles, rinse it thoroughly under running water using a small nylon brush. If there is too much build-up, use vinegar or citric acid. Remember to rinse the filter again before use.

Tips for use and care

1) Scale formation is the main reason for premature failure of electric kettles. Scale itself is the result of boiling low-quality water. Before boiling water, pass it through a household filter. The masters of our service center recommend the use of magnetic water converters to soften and prevent the formation of lime deposits. Magnetic softener Magic (made in Israel) has proven itself well. Thus, you will significantly extend the life of your electric kettle.

2) Check the kettle for leaks from time to time. This is done as follows: fill it with water, dry it thoroughly and place it on a dry paper towel for 15-20 minutes. If the towel stays dry, then everything is in order. If a leak occurs, it is better to contact a service center to eliminate it, since otherwise it may cause a short circuit and a fire.

Despite the simplicity of the above tips, most users neglect them, using the electric kettle until it refuses to turn on. Our authorized service center can help in these situations too. With all the necessary equipment for diagnostics and repair, as well as having access to original Braun parts, we will quickly get your equipment back into operation.

Most people's morning starts with a cup of an invigorating drink - coffee or tea. For its preparation, as a rule, an electric kettle is used, since it heats the water to the desired temperature in just a couple of minutes.

However, what if one fine morning everything went wrong? You habitually press the button of the kettle, but it is not fixed, or it seems to turn on, but there is no contact, and the kettle does not work.Problem? Even some! Someone will say: buy a new kettle, and that's the end of it. How much does it cost there - mere pennies ...

In fact - if the button for turning on the electric kettle has broken, then this is not a verdict on the entire device. Practice shows that even a person who is very remote from the world of electronic boards and various chips can carry out the repair of this unit.

You just need to adhere to simple rules and have a general idea of the subject of repair.

At its core, a kettle button is a thermostat. This unit has a fairly simple design. It provides closing or opening of the electrical circuit depending on the set temperature.

When the required indicator is reached, the circuit is opened and the button is turned off.

The button consists of metal and plastic elements. These are several plates to which the contacts are brought, as well as a plastic pin on which the outer part of the button is located.

When repairing a button, there is no need to use complex and expensive devices, so an ordinary person and even a fragile girl can successfully cope with this process.

The electric kettle is a rather simple device in its design.

  • hulls;
  • coasters;
  • ten;
  • cord;
  • on and off buttons.

Before repairing, you need to arm yourself with a tool that will effectively eliminate the breakdown. In this case, there is no need to reinvent the wheel - take a set of screwdrivers, sandpaper to clean the contacts. Sometimes a tester may be needed to check the voltage.

First, we define the location of the button. It can be located at the top or bottom of the kettle body.

The causes of the malfunction and how to fix it (the button is at the bottom):

  • The button locks, but the kettle does not turn on

There are two possible options - either the thermostat is completely out of order and needs to be replaced, or the contacts that fit the plates are burned out.

  1. In order to check the condition of the contacts, it is necessary to remove the handle of the kettle. This is done using a flat or Phillips screwdriver (depending on the type of screws used for fastening). Remember, in order to get to the button block, you must act carefully, since almost all structural elements of the electric kettle are made of plastic and can collapse due to strong mechanical stress.
  2. If you see that the contact has burned out or is covered with a layer of burning, it means that the reason for the breakdown of the heating device, most likely, is precisely this. It is necessary to carry out work to clean up or restore the contact group.
  3. To remove carbon deposits on the on / off button contacts, you can use a file or fine sandpaper.
  4. After stripping, you need to immediately ring the chain with a tester, if the chain appears to assemble the kettle in the reverse order.

In this case, the breakdown may be caused by the loss of any fixing element. To eliminate it, it is necessary to disassemble the unit and carefully examine it. If a part has fallen out, reinstall it.

  • The kettle starts heating the water, but does not turn off

Here, too, the problem may lie in the incorrect operation of the thermostat. Sometimes, to eliminate this breakdown, it is enough to clean the contacts. If this does not help, you need to change the thermostat.

  • The kettle turns on and off during operation

This means that the power supply is interrupted. The reason for this may be the same carbon deposits on the contact group of the thermostat. The recommended remedy is to strip the wires and plates.

Quite often, under the influence of high voltage, plastic elements melt, which causes the contact plates to come out of the sockets, which entails a violation of the correct operation.
