After each immersion of the movement in chlorinated or salt water, the watch should be thoroughly rinsed under a thin stream of water. Then wipe dry with an absorbent cloth. Cleaning the watch is an important part of maintenance. Sweat, dust on the metal case and bracelet of the watch can oxidize the steel. Therefore, systematic cleaning of the case and bracelet is required, using a brush and liquid soap, followed by rinsing and wiping with an absorbent cloth.For mechanical watches, prevention also includes cleaning and lubricating the escapement and balancer, checking the performance of the complex movement and other functions of the watch. For quartz watch models, the craftsmen will replace the battery and fine-tune the movement using a special Breitling instrument. For all types of watches, seals must be replaced, their water resistance is checked.

Complete renovation preferably every 4-6 years. If the watch is used in conditions of extreme extreme conditions (frequent dives to great depths, high temperatures, etc.), then complex maintenance and repairs are recommended more often. This service includes a complete repair of the watch mechanism: disassembly, cleaning, inspection of all components, replacement of worn parts. Then the mechanism is reassembled in accordance with the manufacturer's technologies, lubricated and adjusted. In quartz movements, the battery is replaced. The “Complete Repair” procedure necessarily includes a complete disassembly of the case, its thorough cleaning and polishing. The metal bracelet is also cleaned and polished. Leather or rubber straps are replaced if necessary. A complete replacement of all waterproof seals is performed.

The water resistance of Breitling chronometers is ensured by a rather complex system of seals, which are subject to destructive effects of external factors such as sweat, temperature surges, ultraviolet rays, chlorinated or salt water, various chemicals, temperatures above 60 C, direct sunlight, dust and others. With active use of the watch in water, it is recommended to change all gaskets during maintenance work performed at least once a year.

The screw-down crown ensures that the watch is optimally water-resistant. It is very important, before any manipulations with the head, to unlock it by unscrewing it, and then screw it back on for full fixation.

Mechanisms with water resistance at great depths (2000 - 3000 m), equipped with helium valves, which serve to equalize internal and external pressure. When the internal pressure reaches about 3 bar, the valve automatically releases the helium accumulated over the time spent at great depths, which prevents the watch case from exploding.
