We would like to repair a garden swing with a broken seat. We decided that the easiest way would be to braid the seat and back around the metal frame of the swing in something like this:

From your proposed options, in my opinion, all are not very successful. Fabric ropes are not an option at all, they will rot very quickly. Tights are stronger, but too elastic, everything will instantly sag, even if you make thick ones, let alone the fact that you will have to unrealistically many of them.

Wire is a suitable option, but the thickness must be at least 3 mm.

A clothesline works best. But you just need to take a nylon rope, which will not sting, and thick enough - from 5 mm.

Alternatively, you can pick up something made of plastic. For example, a polyethylene sprinkler pipe, the diameter is thinner.

There is also a metal cable in a plastic sheath. It is sold in hardware stores as a clothesline. Its thickness is 3 mm, it is strong enough, and the plastic serves as a good anti-corrosion protection.

You can use a willow vine. Cook it, remove the bark. You can combine a light variety with a pink Three-stalk variety, for beauty. She bends better. It is most convenient to bend the boiled rods immediately after removing the bark.

If braiding the metal frame turns out to be laborious or you don't like the result, you can make bird cherry on top of it, bending the boiled bird cherry poles along it like a pattern and tying it with wire for several days. After tying, remove the bark. After a few days, the poles will dry out and remember this position, and the wire can be removed. Fasten the poles themselves with self-tapping screws, sinking the cap and filling that place with wooden dust with PVA glue. Drill holes in the poles, put a willow vine in them and weave them according to the principle of fabric. Glue the joints of bird cherry with willow with PVA or cosmophen. The frame itself is made of poles, together with an iron solid, to wrap with a thin willow vine, gluing the ends with a cosmophen into secluded places.

Follow the step-by-step instructions for restoring a garden swing, the work will not take you much time:

Free the metal frame from the fabric. Inspect the frame for rust, damage, or dirt. Now is the time to fix the shortcomings, if any. Clean off dirt, remove rust, paint over the frame with metal paint. Use a spray gun for this purpose.

To restore the seat and back of the swing, you will need a beam or lining. The length of the wooden runners must be at least the length of the swing. The width is not important, lay out the beams next to it, determine how many units are needed to fill the width of the seat and back on the swing. Since the swing must be able to withstand not only a child, but also adults, it is advisable to use a bar of at least 3 cm in thickness, but if there is less material on the site, it is not necessary to spend money and buy new bars. When assembling the seat and the back of the swing, lay out the transverse beams more often, screw them down - nothing is scary for such a seat.

Think about the shape of the seat, if necessary, use a jigsaw to round the front boards on the sides.
There are two ways to get rid of wood splinters. The pieces of wood can be burned with a burner and then sanded. Or the more traditional way: use a sander with a coarse grit and a second wheel with a fine grit, the surface should be perfectly smooth when passed by hand. Fix the result with clear or tinted wood varnish.
Make holes in the planks and metal frame of the swing with a drill. Connect the parts and secure with the furniture bolt. The swing remains to be decorated with a mattress or pillows.

So we went along the third paths. I sew badly, I didn't want to bother. But you can replace the fabric of the swing ... with twine!

The cords in hardware stores are usually very thick and expensive. We figured that if a swing has a back and a seat 1 meter wide, it is wrapped in half ... twine needs 400 meters!

As a result, we bought in "Ashan" a polypropylene cord knitted with a core (made in Belarus), 3 mm, withstands 50-55 kgf - what you need :). A 20-meter skein cost 20 rubles.

I haven't written here for a long time, since there were no special renovations in our apartment. But! Now we are actively engaged in our garage and the area around it. For clarification, I will say that we live in an apartment, and sometimes we want to sit and relax in nature. We live outside the city, an apartment building with 20 apartments in total, and next to it, across the courtyard, there is a garage plot for about 10 garages. So we decided to decorate and equip our garage little by little. We have not yet reached the point of arranging it inside, so we are actively working outside. 2 years ago we planted grapes and various weaving flowers. A year later, we ourselves cooked the frame for the grapes and now we can't wait until our grapes will give not only fruits, but also a shade))) In the meantime, for the summer we hang a shade net. The frame, like the garage door, was painted with enamel in a beautiful (for me 🙂) khaki color. Then they plastered and painted the front wall and made a crate on it for decoration and so that the flowers trailed along it 🙂

Now, this spring, we started to implement our new idea - a garden swing!) The idea was to make them removable, and so that they cling to the upper beam of our vineyard frame. We bought a metal square 30x20, my husband made a model in 3D, cut out everything according to the drawings and welded it himself.

Then I primed and painted the frame.

The seat and the back of the swing were made of wood, after pre-processing it, they were painted with a special agent for wood.

This was the first time my friends and I experienced the swing, now we often have dinner in the summer near the garage, frying something tasty on the grill 🙂 The tests were successful, even after my centner godfather almost jumped on it)))

The swing is suspended on a chain through springs with a hook on a loop made of reinforcement, which we welded to the upper beam of the vineyard. The swing is removable, the husband can easily put it on himself.The height of the seat at the swing, as well as the angle of inclination, are adjusted by changing the attachment point on the chain links. A couple of years ago we bought a garden swing for our summer cottage. In the warm season, they were outside, in the open air, exposed to rain and sun. Like most of the goods sold in Russian stores, the swing is made in China, respectively, they are inexpensive, although the quality is quite acceptable. Although the swing is a garden swing, which implies that it will be used outdoors, the seat, which is made of fabric that looks quite strong, could not withstand the effects of rainwater and scorching sunlight.

One summer day, it burst under another lover of quiet rest. Having examined the place of the gap, it became clear that the fabric was simply worn out, so it makes no sense to sew it up. Repair or alteration required. You can replace the fabric with a more durable look, but the cost of the material and work will be higher than the price of the swing itself. Therefore, it was decided to make a seat from pine gaps, of which, after the construction of the house from a bar, there were plenty of them.

The swing was made in one weekend (2 days), having thought everything through, purchasing materials and preparing drawings.

They decided to make the swing from what was left after the construction of the house, namely: a board 40 mm and 20 mm thick and 150 mm wide. Only fasteners (bolts, corners, hooks, screws, chain) were bought in the store. The chain was bought with a link thickness of 6mm and a total length of 5 meters. Should be enough.

Everything cost about 2,000 rubles.

For convenience, the seat back is tilted slightly back and the swing itself is suspended on chains in such a way that a slight backward tilt of the swing is formed.

It is not difficult to make a garden swing with your own hands if you know how to handle tools. All work can be completed in one or two days.
