Wire is a suitable option, but the thickness must be at least 3 mm.

A clothesline works best. But you just need to take a nylon rope, which will not sting, and thick enough - from 5 mm.

Alternatively, you can pick up something made of plastic. For example, a polyethylene sprinkler pipe, the diameter is thinner.

There is also a metal cable in a plastic sheath. It is sold in hardware stores as a clothesline. Its thickness is 3 mm, it is strong enough, and the plastic serves as a good anti-corrosion protection.

You can use a willow vine. Cook it, remove the bark. You can combine a light variety with a pink Three-stalk variety, for beauty. She bends better. It is most convenient to bend the boiled rods immediately after removing the bark.

If braiding the metal frame turns out to be laborious or you don't like the result, you can make bird cherry on top of it, bending the boiled bird cherry poles along it like a pattern and tying it with wire for several days. After tying, remove the bark. After a few days, the poles will dry out and remember this position, and the wire can be removed. Fasten the poles themselves with self-tapping screws, sinking the cap and filling that place with wooden dust with PVA glue. Drill holes in the poles, put a willow vine in them and weave them according to the principle of fabric. Glue the joints of bird cherry with willow with PVA or cosmophen. The frame itself is made of poles, together with an iron solid, to wrap with a thin willow vine, gluing the ends with a cosmophen into secluded places.

• To restore the seat and back of the swing, you will need a beam or lining. The length of the wooden runners must be at least the length of the swing. The width is not important, lay out the beams next to it, determine how many units are needed to fill the width of the seat and back on the swing. Since the swing must be able to withstand not only a child, but also adults, it is advisable to use a bar of at least 3 cm in thickness, but if there is less material on the site, it is not necessary to spend money and buy new bars. When assembling the seat and the back of the swing, lay out the transverse beams more often, screw them down - nothing is scary for such a seat.

• Think about the shape of the seat, if necessary, use a jigsaw to round the front boards on the sides.
• There are two ways to get rid of wood splinters. The pieces of wood can be burned with a burner and then sanded. Or the more traditional way: use a sander with a coarse grit and a second wheel with a fine grit, the surface should be perfectly smooth when passed by hand. Fix the result with clear or tinted wood varnish.
• Make holes in the planks and metal frame of the swing with a drill. Connect the parts and secure with the furniture bolt. The swing remains to be decorated with a mattress or pillows.

Fix the thread in one of the corners, and begin to braid the swing, alternating the loop on the seat, on the armchair, and so on until the end. You can strengthen the weaving with longitudinal threads. Place a mattress on top of the finished weave. The swing is ready!

As a result, we bought in "Ashan" a polypropylene cord knitted with a core (made in Belarus), 3 mm, withstands 50-55 kgf - what you need :). A 20-meter skein cost 20 rubles.

For clarification, I will say that we live in an apartment, and sometimes we want to sit and relax in nature. We live outside the city, an apartment building with 20 apartments in total, and next to it, across the courtyard, there is a garage plot for about 10 garages. So we decided to decorate and equip our garage little by little. We have not yet reached the point of arranging it inside, so we are actively working outside. 2 years ago we planted grapes and various weaving flowers. A year later, we ourselves cooked the frame for the grapes and now we can't wait until our grapes will give not only fruits, but also a shade))) In the meantime, for the summer we hang a shade net. The frame, like the garage door, was painted with enamel in a beautiful (for me 🙂) khaki color. Then they plastered and painted the front wall and made a crate on it for decoration and so that the flowers trailed along it 🙂

Now, this spring, we started to implement our new idea - a garden swing!) The idea was to make them removable, and so that they cling to the upper beam of our vineyard frame. We bought a metal square 30x20, my husband made a model in 3D, cut out everything according to the drawings and welded it himself.

Then I primed and painted the frame.

The seat and the back of the swing were made of wood, after pre-processing it, they were painted with a special agent for wood.

A couple of years ago we bought a garden swing for our summer cottage. In the warm season, they were outdoors, in the open air, exposed to rain and sun. Like most of the goods sold in Russian stores, the swing is made in China, therefore, they are inexpensive, although the quality is quite acceptable. Although the swing is a garden swing, which implies that it will be used outdoors, the seat, which is made of fabric that looks pretty strong, could not withstand the effects of rainwater and scorching sunlight.

The swing was made in one weekend (2 days), having thought everything through, purchasing materials and preparing drawings.

They decided to make the swing from what was left after the construction of the house, namely: a board 40 mm and 20 mm thick and 150 mm wide. Only fasteners (bolts, corners, hooks, screws, chain) were bought in the store. The chain was bought with a link thickness of 6mm and a total length of 5 meters. Should be enough.

Everything cost about 2,000 rubles.

The job requires a certain tool.

To prevent children and especially adults (due to the greater weight) from falling, it is necessary to reliably hang the swing. To do this, you need to find:

• strong enough ropes - you can use parachute slings (withstand 150 kg) or climbers' ropes;
• chains - even those with which dogs are tied are suitable, but preferably thicker;
• thick wire or long metal rods with a caliber of at least 10 mm.

Mounts can be completely different:

• From the rope. Place the rope over the crossbar and fasten it to the bottom of the seat. Or pull it through the saddle and tie in a knot at the top.
• Hook or ring.

The second method has several options:

The first two are designed to grip shaped crossbars: rectangular and round. They are a kind of clamps with hooks.

The last two are intended for fastening hooks or rings in the through hole of the crossbar.

Classic boards and semi-logs on a swing have long become boring to everyone.

Here are some unconventional methods for making swing seats. They are easy to make and will not take a lot of time.

The easiest way is to use old chairs or benches made of any material that have broken legs. It is beautiful and practical. There are several ways to attach them to the swing:

1. We drill 4 holes in the seat of the chair (blue), pass the ropes through them and tie a rod or thin metal tube from below. He will not let the rope slip back.
2. We fasten or nail planks to the seat (yellow), drill them. We pass the ropes through the holes and tie large knots. For safety, such knots can be omitted in order to avoid their unraveling and passing through the hole. Better to just tie the end of the rope around the board.
3. Instead of holes in the seat, we cut out grooves and wrap a rope around the chair (pink). But the child can jump, the rope will come loose and slide to the side. To prevent the rope from jumping out, we fill the boards from below.

You can make a seat out of tarpaulin or fabric, but it is not very comfortable, since it wraps around the person sitting on both sides, squeezing him. For convenience, you can install a spacer over the seat on a rope or chain and then the degree of girth will decrease.

Make a pseudo-seat from a tire. Hang her up on ropes. In the sector facing the ground, stuff soft unnecessary things.

For convenience, take tires of a large size, for example, from the rear wheels of the tractor.

Hoop as a seat. A hula-hoop is taken and wrapped with ropes in diameter:

But just sitting on wood, plastic or metal is not very pleasant. For greater convenience, you can put on the seat cushions for a garden swing, made of foam rubber and covered with dense fabric or leather. If, during assembly, it is prudent to make soft seats, then no pillows are needed.

They represent a seat made of any suitable material, suspended from a branch with one or two ropes.

The photo shows that the ropes can be tied in different ways, the main thing is that they do not slip:

• on the left side, two ropes are thrown over a branch and fixed at the bottom with four knots;
• in the upper right picture, one rope is suspended from a hook;
• on the lower one there are two ropes hanging from the hooks.

Make a swing entirely from wooden parts. That is, make the supports and the crossbar from beams or logs, and the seat from boards, slats or wooden benches and install as described above.

If you fill the foundation, fix a knocked down special shield, a podium and install a swing on it - it will be even better. After all, the supports and the shield do not touch the ground.Moreover, additional bars are installed between the shield and the foundation, providing ventilation of the shield.

The industry produces rectangular pipes, T-beams, I-beams. Here you can make a swing out of them. Their appearance is no different from the other structures described above.

The following options are more difficult to perform, because to implement them, you need to bend pipes or weld several pieces together.

A tried and tested method can be used to bend pipes:

• the mandrel is being prepared;
• the pipe is tightly clogged with sand and corks (wooden);
• then carefully bend the future support along the mandrel.

These structures are distinguished by the fact that they can be easily carried or moved. True, this may require 2-4 people.

Usually, swinging structures involve a single, less often a double version. But now a 3-seater garden swing has come into vogue.

The installation of racks and suspension is identical to that described above, but the width is much larger.

To complete it, you need to make a special elongated seat that would accommodate three people, and install the racks at a distance of at least 2 m.

The seat can be made in two versions:

1. Classic - everyone sits facing in the same direction.
2. Modern - average rider, looking in the opposite direction.

Let's consider the first option. It is easy to execute. To make it, you can even hang a bench that can be seen in parks. But due to its heavy weight, this should not be done. Better to make the special seat yourself.

It can be made of aluminum pipes or wood. The following is the assembly procedure for the 3-seater seat. Its length is 1500 mm or more, the width and height of the backrest is 500-600 mm.

There are three main types of hanging swings, or as they are also called - boat swing, sofa, bench, etc. The main difference is in the type of support structure: there is an A-shaped and a U-shaped. You see an example with racks folded into a triangular structure above, and in the photo below an example with a U-shaped rack. It is more like a pergola with a suspended bench and it is built according to the same type, only taking into account the swinging loads.

There is a third type - this is already a complex structure that requires certain skills - it is based on articulated joints and they swing from resting their feet on the floor. Immediately we will give you a photo and a diagram for those who wish (you can expand it to full screen if you click on the arrows in the upper right corner of the picture).

Most often, they make a design in the form of the letter "A" on their own. It is simpler and requires less material. Let's take a closer look at the nodes, fasteners, talk about materials, protection against destruction and stability.

Immediately about what to make a wooden swing. The choice of lumber section depends on the planned load. If it is assumed that there will be one adult person, the racks and the upper crossbar are at least 50 * 70 mm. If a larger number of "seats" is expected - two or three, then the cross-section of the bar is at least 100 * 100 mm, in better case - 100 * 150 mm. It has been experimentally established that such a structure, when using a 100 * 100 bar, normally withstands a total load of about 200 kg. If you need more - take a larger section, or put logs))

About what the bench / sofa is made of. A bar of 70 * 40 mm will go to the frame, the backrest height is at least 600 mm, the seat depth is at least 480 mm. You can experiment with the depth of the seat and the angle of the backrest: there are options for the "recumbent" position. Accordingly, both the length of the sofa and the dimensions of the structure vary greatly from this. For fastening, use 200 nails or hairpins at least 10 mm in diameter.

There are varieties of this design: with or without a bottom frame. If the swing is installed on a rigid platform and the fasteners are made rigid, on the studs, without the possibility of backlash, then such a structure will stand without problems. If in doubt, you can make a screed from a bar along the bottom, nail it with pins to the coating, or drive the staples into the ground.

For those who are afraid of lateral loads - the structure in this axis is not the most reliable - we can offer the racks to be installed with a slope. The area will be large, but the stability will be high.

If it is intended to be installed in the ground, parts of the racks that will be buried must be treated with bio-protection. As a cheap option, put it in a container with used oil for several hours. Dry, then bury. They are buried to a depth of at least 50 cm, a little rubble is poured at the bottom, racks are set up and concreted. If you are afraid that this is not enough, attach several strips of metal crosswise at the bottom.The hole will have to be digged with a larger size, but the retention area will be larger.

In all swings of this type - with the racks sawn at the top - the problem is the attachment point of the crossbeam, to which the bench is then attached. In the photo above, it is solved reliably, although not entirely aesthetically pleasing. The trouble is that aesthetic methods are difficult to execute. And, if you are not for sale, it is faster to do something inelegant, but reliable. So, in order to secure the cross-member, an overhead bar is attached below the intersection, pulled to the racks with pins. The crossbar rests on it, which is held from lateral shifts by racks and fasteners - nails and studs.

Another way to install the cross member is to attach the side posts in an “X” shape. With this option, the support beam fits perfectly. It is additionally fastened with nails, and the racks are pulled together with hairpins. See this option in the next photo.

By the same principle, do-it-yourself swings are assembled from logs: the side ones are fastened crosswise, and a support log is laid on top. If the timber is sometimes assembled on nails, then in the case of logs, studs are mainly used.

The attachment for the swing also requires clarification, that is, it is not obvious to everyone how to hang a bench-sofa on the crossbar. First, the crossbar is drilled from bottom to top through and through. A bolt is passed through the hole, to which an eye nut is attached. One or two wide washers are placed under the nut head so that it does not squeeze under the weight.

Instead of a regular nut, an eye nut is screwed onto a bolt passed through a hole in the crossbar.

It turns out that the ring of the eye nut is located at the bottom. You can attach a carabiner to it, throw a rope or cable, etc. Just pay attention that the carabiner should normally hang freely on the ring of the eye nut. And in the carabiner, two chain links should fit freely. Therefore, it is advisable to buy everything together in one store: you can try on the entire unit at once.

By the way, in a rigging store, you can stumble upon other devices that can be adapted to attach chains or ropes from the swing seat. For example, such as in the photo below.

They are designed to lift loads from 0.5 tons, so there is no point in using them for children, but on a swing for adults - quite.

This mount has a significant drawback - a squeak is heard when rocking. For a while, you can get rid of it by lubricating the unit, but this operation will have to be repeated periodically. The way out is to make a knot on bearings, but welding is indispensable.

Their design is exactly the same. The material is different, and the method of its attachment. This is welding. Those familiar with welding inverters will find it easy to weld something like this. And for inspiration, a photo report.

Below is a drawing of this swing with dimensions. Some clarification is required. The figure shows a pipe welded around the perimeter (this plane is shaded). It is buried and therefore is not visible in the photo. It was made in order to increase stability: the masses of friends are considerable. For the same reason, metal plates are welded onto the ends of the posts. The installation was complicated, but the swing is still standing.

For the manufacture it took 22 meters of a profile pipe 50 * 50 mm, for a seat 25 * 25 mm - 10 mm, boards 2000 * 120 * 18 - 7 pieces and the rest - fasteners, paint, anti-rust.
