This model is often made without armrests at all. It is very lightweight and compact. When folded, it is a cross between an armchair and a sofa, but easily turns into a fairly spacious and comfortable bed.
The most classic "accordion" made of chipboard. The industry produces these models in different sizes, but you can offer your own version that suits your room. It is easy to assemble and disassemble, and it is the easiest way to do it yourself.
As for the materials, then, regardless of the model chosen, you will need:
bars with a section of 50x25 mm,
Fiberboard 4 mm;
plywood 10 mm
upholstery fabric;
foam rubber;
three-piece mattress;
guides and wheels (for the part that will slide out);
fasteners (staples, nails, screws);
legs for the stationary part;
construction glue;
transformation mechanism;
support hinges.

You can easily find the necessary drawings on the Internet - you just have to substitute your dimensions. First, decide what the soft part will be based on:

on a frame made of timber.
The metal frame is made from a round or rectangular tube. This makes the construction somewhat heavier. To make such a frame you need:

slats;

Not everyone has the opportunity to work with metal, so the overwhelming majority of home craftsmen choose the option with a wooden frame, it is much simpler and easier.

Any transformer consists of several parts. Before you fold the accordion sofa, you have to make the individual elements:
soft part of three sections (seat, back of the back and front of the back);
two armrests (soft, straight);

Important! The height of the transformation mechanism must be carefully considered - it must correspond to the thickness of the mattress.
All details must be done strictly according to the drawings. Perhaps the best place to start is with the armrests - you can also practice using the tool at the same time.It should be remembered that they must be absolutely symmetrical. The only difference is where the assembly bolt is directed.
The main part of the sofa is the frame to which the armrests and the soft part are attached. The work is best done in this order:
Assemble a frame from four strips of plywood (top, bottom, front and back walls, and seven blocks).
Place the last seventh bar close to the back wall.
Drill a hole in it for the mounting bolts.
Install and fix the bolts on the side of the head with 5-10 mm thick wooden plates.
Top the frame with fiberboard.
Cover the structure with foam rubber (do not forget to leave an allowance of 0.5 cm).
Wrap it all up with fabric (cut allowances should be at least 5 cm on each side).
Make the sidewalls.
Drill bolt holes in the inner sides.
Cover them with foam rubber.
Install the sidewalls, securing them at the corners with self-tapping screws.
Sheathe the frame on top with fiberboard sheets.
First you need to make separate frames of all three parts from fiberboard:
Lay the back and front frames side by side.
Screw the bars to the touching bars from the inside next to the corners - it is better to do this with self-tapping screws.
Mark and drill the mounting holes - hinges will be placed in them.
Cover the fiberboard sheets with foam rubber - its thickness is about 10 mm, but you can take thinner sheets by gluing them in several layers.
Mark the holes for the transformation mechanism - they are located on the sides of the seat and the front of the back.
Drill holes.
Cover the frames with fabric (you can paste over with padding polyester and make covers).
The bed box is made of boards:
Prepare 4 boards of the same thickness, the length and width correspond to the dimensions in the drawing.
Assemble the box by connecting the boards at the corners of the future box with vertical bars.
Measure the diagonals of the box - they should be equal.
Secure the stiffener - it is in the middle.
Attach the fiberboard bottom (with small screws).
Screw the wheels in the corners.
Mark the holes for the transformation mechanism.
Make a front panel - cover it with a cloth and attach it to the front of the drawer.
Connect 2 guides to each other, along which the wheels will move - this is done with the help of two boards.
Check how parallel the guides are.
Cover the rear stiffener with a cloth.
Important! When the sofa is assembled, the ends of the boards that connect the guides should be in the middle of the bottom of the armrests.
Are all the details ready? Fine! The time has come to assemble the sofa and evaluate the results of your work:
Press the back and front of the backrest together.
Secure them with loops.
Fix the hinges with self-tapping screws.
Connect the front parts of the backrest and the seat with a transformation mechanism (it is bolted).
Flip the finished soft part upside down.
Place the box on top.
Attach the box to the transformation mechanism.
Attach the crossbars between the guides to the lower parts of the armrests with self-tapping screws.
Turn the sofa over without attaching the armrests yet.
Fold up the structure.
Roll your creation onto the guides.
Sink the bolts that protrude from the armrests in the back of the back.
Attach stiffeners to the back walls of the armrests.
Important! You can make triangular overlays that will cover the gaps between the back and front of the backrest.
