In detail: DIY repair of a tent arch from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
When you are on a hike, there is a problem with the tent. Problems are different, the outer awning may break, a hole may appear from a spark from the fire, and the most unpleasant one is a breakdown of one of the arches of the tent. Most of the repair kits (repair kit) of the tent contains an additional stick for repairing arcs. By the way, you should prepare for the repair in advance, since it is not always possible to find the necessary materials in nature. And so, what do we need for the repair:
- Broken arc.
- Metal wire.
- A spare section of an arc from a repair kit.
And now everything is in order. Judging by the fact that you are interested in the issue of repair, it means that you already have a broken arc. I will show on the example of repairing the arches of the NORDWAY tent. All the sticks that make up the arc are set with a garland on a rubber cable. Before repairing the arc, you must find a metal wire with a length of at least 120 millimeters. We bend the wire in half and see that it crawls through the hole in the stick and there remains a small additional gap for pulling the elastic band, which passes inside the arc sticks. if appropriate, you can start replacing poles in the broken arch of the tent. Our task is to replace one of the sticks of the arc. If you have already used up a stick from the repair kit or lost it, then you need to go to the store where you purchased the tent and buy additional sticks for repairing the tent.
When everything is assembled, we look at which end of the arcs is closer to the fragment. Then you need to pull the knot out of the tip of the arc (for this you can pry it with your nails or a wire). We untie the knot, but do not release it into free flight through the tubes, but we hold it and intercept it from the broken stick and release it. To prevent the elastic from flying inside the stick, you can make a large loop, but not tie it. Due to the large surface of the eyelet, the elastic will not fall through and will always be available. We throw away the broken stick (or broken sticks). Remember the orientation of the sticks. We pass the wire through the stick and leave a small loop at the end of the stick. Thread the end of the elastic through the wire loop.
Video (click to play). |
If the elastic is very tight, then we untie the fixation knot and hold the elastic with our fingers so that it does not fly into other sticks. We pull on the wire and take out the loop of the elastic band from the second side of the stick.
We take out the gum. And the sticks turn out to be dressed in the form of a garland.
We do all this to the end stick. If it suddenly turns out that you have placed the end stick in the middle of the garland, then we disassemble the arc to the end stick and put it back together until the correct configuration is obtained.
On the end arc, we tie an elastic band with a double knot, because a single one often slips through a hole in the arc and you will get an arc disassembled into sticks on vacation, which is extremely unpleasant. After finishing the work, count the number of sticks in the arc and assemble the arc, inspect it so that it is neat and there is no such situation that some sticks are collected with the wrong ends.
For fun, you can completely assemble the tent with the repaired arch and wait a couple of days.
If you have any questions, then ask, I will be happy to answer.

How to fix arcs on a tent at home - the topic of this article. If you have broken (or you have broken) the arc, do not get upset, because you can fix it yourself. I will show you how to do this using a personal example. If you are lazy, you can buy new arcs here.
Breakage of arcs Is one of the most common occurrences. You never know when they will fail, and of course, they break most often on a hike. What to do with a broken arc? Buy a new one or buy separate knees, or maybe even buy a new tent.
I am writing this post for a reason, because 2 knees on one arc broke at once on the turkclub tent. Nice tent from Pinguin with plastic arches, obviously they saved on them.
P.S. The knee is the component of the arch, not the kneecap on the leg.
A patient: one arch with 2 broken knees and a torn inner thread. In addition to the fact that I replaced the knees, I also made a thread from 3 parts.
First of all, you need to look at your arch, determine which knees are broken:
From the edge where the end is closer, we begin to pull out the rope.
The rope is in an arc under a stretch, so you will have to get it with a small hook, I used a piece of wire, you can try with an awl or a gypsy needle (you can also use a small nail)
Next, you need to take out the rope, but not all of it! Pull the broken knees out of the arch.
We remove the broken knees (we count them), I needed to replace 2 knees, so I take new ones and start to re-insert the thread.
Important: as you can see in the photo (above), then my rope is torn, I have 2+ of them I still had to build up.
Now take new knees and pass the rope through them:
It passes freely, I did not use any extraneous means.
Now the fun has begun, you should have two options:
1. You pass the rope through all the arcs and calmly tie a knot at the end and you're done.
2. Your rope is torn in several places and you need to build it up, and only then finish the repair.
I got the second option. To build up the rope, I will give you 2 pieces of advice:
1. Secure the rope so that it does not go away, like this:
2. Tie a straight knot, it will hold well (you can use any other one) and it is small in size, as well as the knot should be at the junction of two knees, because the knot in the knee channel will not work. Trim the ends.
If the rope does not want to crawl into the knee channel, then just thread the most ordinary thread through the arc and tie it to the rope. You just have to pull, but not break the thread itself.
Make sure the arc is not too tight or relaxed, cut a piece of rope and stretch it if necessary. Tie in a straight knot and cut:
Then pass through the last arc and tie the simplest knot, for example, the control one:
Cut off the remainder and the arc is remounted! Hooray!
Advice: Count the number of bends of the repaired arc and the number of the whole arc (second). When I did the first time, one was 11, the second 10
It's easier just to take it and break it, but if it's intentional, but the "usual" cases that will lead to a breakdown, now I'll tell you about them. I usually give these little tips when renting a tent:
- Do not jump on the tent - you will break several knees at once.
- Place on level ground - if the tent is on a slope, then the load is not going properly and may crack the knee.
- Do not load the "shelf" in the tent itself - if you put a lot of things (heavy) on it, then a strong load will go on the arcs and the knee may crack, we broke this arc just like that :).
- Correctly lay the arcs in the cover - they need to be laid in the middle, wrapped in the tent itself and the awning, so it is less likely that when the tent falls in the cover, the knee will crack.
That's all. Use my instructions, I think it will come in handy for you, if you already had experience in repairing arcs or if you want to ask something - write in the comments, I will answer.
By the way, I liked to repair the arc and immediately photograph the whole process. And I made an arc, and wrote a post, subscribe to my mailing list, there will be more!

Can you please tell me where you can buy new aluminum arches to replace fiberglass ones and how noticeable is the weight gain?
My tent has a 9-section arc, diameter 8.5, the length of the sections is 407 or 390 without pimples. Is it realistic to find metal?

if for bagatam, then in Russia you order light arcs for 60 raccoons (killed). Yandex with Google to help.
They wrote on the site that they saw someone who knows someone, who saw someone who sells on Zhdanovichi.
But I don’t know of a single product in Zhdanovichi that can be bought cheaper elsewhere.
I bought on Turlan. There are no arcs in the price list. Call, say that you have broken yours, let them sell them.
Now is not the peak season. Their earnings are not very good. Have to sell. And the people there are adequate.
By the way, do not forget to immediately take the plastic fittings for the arcs from them, otherwise you will not find it later in the afternoon with fire.
You can buy an elastic band in any household. For 500 rubles / meter
The disadvantages of Turlan are that the arcs will be Russian. Those are 10 mm in diameter and will slightly “remember” the deflection. A bit heavier than Russian for 60 ye.
If in easy-going, then spare the money and buy in Russia. If in LDPE, then above the roof of Russian
A little later I noticed about the weight. 1.5L beer weighs more than the difference in weight between aluminum and plastic. But I have never seen a broken aluminum. arcs. All "Yurts" are placed normally. But I saw a lot of broken plastic arcs. It's good if it's cracked along and there is scotch tape. But in the rain with a broken one at the very mount.
I'll tell you about the repair of 8mm fiberglass arcs from the Saxifraga tent.
Tent arch made of fiberglass segments
The crux of the problem: one of the segments of such an arc suddenly split and lost its "stable" shape.
Repairing a tent arch can be simple and cheap. It is solved by replacing the damaged element with an aluminum analog, but at first a ready-made arc was sought.
The tent comes with two foldable arches. Each arch consists of seven segments of 500 mm each.
During operation, one of the arc segments split. At first I looked for poles for repairing a tent in stores (where these tents are sold). However, the search for ready-made arcs was not crowned with success. All that could be offered in the store "Splav" - a segment of aluminum (170 rubles). It was not available, and the tube and sleeve (located at the end of the tube for the possibility of docking) were offered separately and after 10 days.
So, repairing the arches of the tent with your own hands:
The above gave me the idea to go to Leroy or Obi, find a pipe there, and assemble the segment on our own. This was done. the tube was found (photo. 8mm), was bought (50 rubles per meter), and sawed off to size. The sleeve came up from the broken arc segment. It can be easily removed after tapping on a hard surface. For strength, I put the sleeve on the tube, having previously greased it with glue. Just in case, I supplemented the procedure with a core blow.
At the junction of the tube and sleeve, a red heat shrink tube was also tensioned (to control the displacement). After that, the previously cut elastic was threaded through the new aluminum arc segment and tied. Iiii ... .. (drum roll) here: the arc is ready!
Field tests of the repaired arc were successful.
Sorry, did not look at the place of residence.
But maybe someone will come in handy.
About the section, of course, and speech
A tube of slightly larger diameter is taken, put on the damaged area of the section and squeezed with pliers.
It is desirable to have one in a rem kit for a tent.
The wire is a strange solution. It seems to me that the rigidity is not enough.
And you can't make it out into sections. Drilling titanium is hard.
P.S. duralumin arcs rule them rnen break and weigh a little. but only those who rule without permanent deformation.
In your case, when 4 sections are broken, the IMHO option is one - buy new and.
And if you don’t mind 5000 - then you can buy a super-duper new tent.

After another weekend with children and a 3-4-seater single-layer tent Hunter KMF outdoors, the children broke a couple of arcs. Next, my version of their repair will be announced.
I used only electrical tape as a repair kit. In fact, I took and wrapped the broken part of the arc in two layers.
By the way, with two broken arcs, the tent stood absolutely calm for several more hours and did not fall apart.
So, I wrapped it tightly, pulling it 3 cm before the beginning of the break and only in assembled form, because if you wind it disassembled, then the wrapped end of the arc will not enter the connector tube.

The arc is made of fiberglass. Googling and chatting with the googling showed that they can only repair aluminum arcs, there are no fiberglass sections for replacement, and they cannot completely replace the arc either, because there are few sections even for aluminum arcs.
Is it real or is it possible to say goodbye to the tent?

well great
It just bothers me that my arc is 7 sections of 50+ cm, and they have 9 sections of 42.5 cm. But this is probably not critical, especially since there are two arcs in the set, you can change two at once. The main thing is that the assembled length does not differ much, and the diameter
ask the seller a question just in case before buying
what length will be in the assembled state and compare with its

well, if you take aluminum, then it is better like this, where the knee length will be just the same as that of the vehicle
The arc from the tent broke - the plastic split, I decided to do it myself. Advise from what you can make them?
Characteristics: diameter up to 10 mm (the smaller = the lighter the better), the bending radius is about 1.5 meters, 5-7 segments are not more than 0.5 meters long (limited by the size of the cover), the total length is about 3 m.
Aluminum tubes (like) come to mind, there are questions about them.
[*] What do they have with permanent deformations? (It is desirable that they be as small as possible)
[*] How to connect them?
[*] Crimp a stud into it (cut the thread for the stud) of a suitable diameter, grind off the thread from the other end, and put the next segment on it.
[*] Crimp the tube with a sleeve and insert the next segment into the sleeve.
[*] In which stores to watch them? I saw similar ones in Leroy, but there they are thin-walled (about 1mm), looking very flimsy.
They are not made at the space plant, so repairing the tent with your own hands is quite possible. We can talk about the breakage of arcs, a lock, a lightning, a divergence of seams and the formation of holes (burned, cut) in the fabric. All options require separate consideration - here are the instructions for repairing the tent (bottom) of the tent. Much in this case depends on the nature of the breach:
- from the length of the edge;
- from the expected load on the edges of the hole;
- direction of load (usually irrelevant since the tent fabric stretches in all directions).
The means are selected depending on the tensile force expected at the gap and the materials of the fabric. Those. awning with silicone and urethane impregnation require different glue (impregnation), different patching materials (polyurethane has poor adhesion to silicone - they cannot be mixed). Therefore, it is necessary to separately consider the means of repairing the tent awning and methods.
In the case of silicone cloth, a sealant is often required rather than an adhesive. The edges are tightly sewn on a sewing machine and coated with silicone sealant. It is not necessary to remove the silicone impregnation from the fabric: all silicones interact perfectly with each other. Additional protection is also not required, due to the resistance of Si to both sunlight and mechanical stress.
Sealing of seams is much more efficient and easier to produce with diluted silicone, for which white spirit or petroleum solvent (Nefras, gasoline Galosha) is used. It is not recommended to take cheap solvents - this can significantly complicate the actual dissolution and the impregnation process. The solvent / sealant ratio is 2 to 3, i.e. less solvent is required. The opposite ratio is more suitable for multiple applications. After thorough mixing, the diluted sealant is applied to the joint with a soft brush - after a while, the procedure is repeated on the other side.
If it is impossible to sew the edges, a patch is needed. You can apply in two ways: glue and sew.If, when repairing a tent, threads and a sealant are combined, you can take fabric with and without Si impregnation (the main thing is not with polyurethane). If you are using glue, you will need a clean nylon cloth (it is better to apply impregnations after gluing, but in reality this is not very critical).
Silicone adhesives differ from sealants in that they are able to withstand tension without stitching the fabric. You can take the usual "Moment", a ready-made repair kit from SilFix or industrial ones, such as Dow Corning. There is no big difference.
Adhesion of the patch with silicone glue is carried out after the edges of the cut are fixed to the lining. The lining can be made from a piece of leather or a similar material: it is also applied to the hole with glue, but usual, so that it can be removed later. Then, on the other hand, a patch smeared with glue is applied to the cut and pressed tightly with a press (book + weight) for several hours. After repairing the tent, the fixing pad is removed.
Polyurethanes interact with each other worse than silicones, which is why glue is more often used for sealing, and not a simple sealant. Nevertheless, the seam can be coated with a sealant, without threads - only glue. For a large volume of work (your own business), a good option is Desmocoll adhesives with various additives, smaller volumes - Tip-Top SC 2000 or "Uranus", there is no time to look for any polyurethane "Moment".
The technology for working with patches is the same, but it is imperative to clean the area where the tent is glued with white spirit, which is why it is better to use repair fabrics without impregnation. Almost all adhesives suitable for repair require strong compression and heating up to 70-90 ° C, this can be done in several ways:
- Iron on a minimum through a layer (or several) of thick fabric. Requires prior training and experimentation.
- A jar of boiling water. The patch is rolled several times through the fabric, then pressed firmly.
- Hair dryer. Fast warm-up and immediately under the press.
In production, the stitching of the tent is reinforced with a special thermo-adhesive strip. It is possible to purchase such tapes, but it is difficult to use in everyday life, since the adhesive composition on them was originally intended for a special, sealing machine seams. The cost of such a car is higher than the cost of any tent, but it is quite possible to find an owner and it is better to use his services. Or repeat the work of the rolling machine using the same iron and very strong pressure, but you should not rely on the durability of such a seal.
A small charcoal hole, especially one without tearing cuts, need not be stitched up. It is almost always clear from its shape whether it will crawl further or not, but it is better to carefully cut off the melted, burnt edges. If impregnation permits, it is better to rinse the site of the future patch with acetone or white spirit before repairing the tent. How impregnation interacts with solvents is better on a separate piece of fabric (awning).
A small hole may not require a patch at all - it is enough to cover it with a sealant. Diameter up to 2 cm - a patch is enough on one side (on the outside for the awning and bottom). More than 2 cm - it is better to consistently apply patches on both sides so that they connect to each other or sew one patch with threads and glue the seams.
If the hole is a cut, be sure to sew the edges together before gluing the patch. Otherwise, the incision may creep further. Do-it-yourself repair of a tent sometimes involves gluing not holes, but abrasions, when the fabric shines through due to many minor wounds. In this case, it is necessary to clean the surface well and apply a patch (+1 cm to the damaged area) without a thread seam.
In order to connect the edges of the cut on the tent, it is almost always necessary to connect the joints, since overlapping they distort the original pattern or give too weak anchorage. If the load on this place is not high, it is enough to connect the edges with a zigzag stitch and reinforce the joint with a patch. Otherwise, you will need an additional strip of fabric along the entire length of the seam, on which both sides of the conflict are sewn. You can glue it before starting repair work, but after fixing the seam, you still need to glue all the joints and edges.
A stitching seam is also used: the sides of the cut are superimposed on each other, and are fastened with a regular oblique stitch along the common edge, after which the awning unfolds. The material remaining free is glued to one or both sides, a patch must be glued on top. It is permissible to lay the seam seam at least 5 mm from the edge, and preferably 1 cm, i.e. such repair of the tent steals from you 1-2 cm, multiplied by the length of the seam.
Buy a duralumin aluminum tube of a suitable diameter, put the joints on the sealant, and also the rubber band inside. Everything.

Good day.
I have a tent “Holiday” Monodome, 2 persons. Satisfied by 146%. I already glued it (where it was flowing), made an awning for it (pull it on top), but there was a nuisance - the fiberglass arcs began to break (crack).
The tent is like this
I climbed into googol + took a ruler and saw this:
-diameter 8 mm (googol sometimes says that 7.8);
- the length of the section with a steel "sleeve" - 58-60 cm.
Then I again climbed into the googol and found an arc of 9.5 mm, 55 cm in length in a convenient store for me.
Question: will such arcs fit on the tent normally? The thickness is greater, the bending load will be different. incomprehensible, in short
Or you need to look for exactly 8 mm. And another question - is 55 cm a pure arc, or with a steel "sleeve"? How is this considered in the standard?
Who will advise what? Who changes the arcs in tents, by what principle?
It seems that earlier Pik99 made aluminum arcs of the required length to order. Now I do not know.
These arcs (alu) will cost more than such a new tent. Just wrap the cracked arcs with wide tape along the length. Its (scotch tape) is wide enough. The arc is holding up well.

I know, but the tent is fine. there is no point in changing and looking for interesting models

HM. I tried it - it seems to hold
And if you cut the pipes yourself? Well, I bought duralumin tubes of 2 diameters (frame + "sleeves" for fixing). it will probably come out cheaper than ready-made ones. Or are there nuances?
I suspect that duralumin pipes with the required characteristics are hard to find.

I didn’t saw, I don’t know. I just know that cheap duralumin has permanent deformation. Have a homemade hell knows. Maybe it will roll them into a ram's horn.
Measure the length of the arc in the assembled version. The length of the link is only important when packing the tent. But whether the arcs will fit thicker, it is necessary to watch on the tent. Find a pencil similar or a bit bigger and push it through your pockets. In general, the thicker the arc, the more reliable it is.
When I pushed through the topic, I saw kits just for sale. Pack of pipes, elastic band and plugs (decathlon). Or tubes separately (extreme). You saw off and assemble the arc yourself.
PS The names of stores in Moscow are indicated in brackets, so that those to whom these names do not say anything do not break their heads.
Aluminum arches are available for sale at Alibai.
Fiberglass can be purchased at any store. Further, you change the defective section by section from the newly purchased kit. If they are longer, shorten. All metal parts are dismantled by light heating and then re-seated on the same Chinese glue.

Maybe I misunderstood, but everything needs to be changed at once. When the old ones begin to pour in, then slowly right away everywhere. Brittleness and stratification in them increases then obscene. Therefore, everything must be changed at once.
I changed it as needed, everything did not fall at once. As a result, I switched to Chinese aluminum. Served for a couple of seasons, now they have to be repaired.
Have you ever broken the arch of your tent while hiking? And accidentally burn a tent with a spark from a fire, pierce it with a branch, stain it in tree resin, break a zipper or tear a mosquito net?
These annoying accidents can ruin the long-awaited outdoor recreation and turn it into torment. To be ready for any problem, we've prepared a checklist for you to put in your camping tent repair kit.
We have prepared this article on the basis of many years of experience of interactions with Alexika clients who have come to us for help in repairing tents.
One of the most common problems is various micro-damage to the outer tent awning. These include:
- hitting a spark from a fire,
- falling cones and branches,
- accidental piercing of the awning with stones or other sharp objects.
Bring a small piece of tarpaulin and synthetic fabric glue or AceCamp self-adhesive patches to repair a small gap in the outer tent flap while hiking. You can also use tongs and scissors to cut the patch to the correct size and gently glue the tarpaulin. When repairing an awning, do not forget to degrease the area where you are going to stick the patch in advance.
If we consider the whole range of problems with the operation of the tent, then the breakage of the arc segments is quite common.Breakage can occur both during the installation of the tent, and during parking.
The cause of the breakdown can be:
- mechanical impact (someone stepped on the arc or dropped something heavy),
- improper operation (the camping tent is used in extreme conditions for which it is not designed),
- unfavorable weather conditions (hurricane wind, heavy snow, extremely low or high temperatures),
- errors when setting up a tent.
Important! Know in advance the material, diameter and length of the arc segments of your tent.
A more serious problem is the loss of a complete set of tent arcs. To solve this problem, please check the model of your tent and contact the online store to purchase a complete set of arcs of the appropriate size and diameter.
Another problem that can be encountered on a hike is the breakage of the zipper of the tent. The AceCamp Zipper Repair Kit is the right choice for repairing a zipper. With the help of such a slider, you will fix the malfunction in 2 minutes and continue to relax in nature in comfort. And the main thing is that replaceable zippers last a long time and you do not need additional tools to replace them.
The rarest problem is a break in the mosquito net. In this case, we recommend that you sew a small gap in place if you have a needle and thread with you, or find a similar mesh fabric and sew it neatly if the gap is large enough.
- spare slings-wind guards AceCamp Utility Cord,
- 1-2 spare fastex.
