DIY oven repair

In detail: do-it-yourself oven repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Like any kitchen appliance, the oven can fail, which is always upsetting, especially if the warranty period has already expired. What to do if the appliance has become faulty, what types of breakdowns can occur and in what cases the service center does not repair the ovens? The answers to these questions are presented in this publication.

If the oven is out of order, and the warranty period has not yet expired, you must contact an authorized service center or the store where the product was purchased. A statement is written, on the basis of which the master comes and examines the equipment. If the breakdown is not complicated and he has the necessary spare parts with him, the repair of the ovens, like any other appliances, can be done at home. Otherwise, the unit will be taken to an authorized service center, where the malfunction must be eliminated within 45 days.

If there is no fault of the buyer in the breakdown, and the craftsmen do not fit into the deadline established by law, for example, due to the lack of necessary spare parts or materials, then the equipment must be replaced with a new one. Usually manufacturers give a one-year warranty, but there are some firms, for example, VEKO, which give 2 years or more.

Even if the equipment is under warranty, repairs will not be carried out free of charge if:

  • damage caused by voltage surges;
  • the breakdown occurred due to incorrect connection;
  • insects or rodents have entered the cabinet;
  • there are traces of opening and self-repair - scuffs, solders, scratches: in this case, repairs and spare parts will be paid, even if the breakdown was caused by the manufacturer.

A completely different situation develops if there is a fault of the owner in the breakdown, or the warranty period has expired. In this case, people usually face a choice: contact the service, to a familiar master, or try to fix the malfunction with their own hands.
To begin with, you can try to independently determine what exactly is out of order. This will simplify the repair of the oven and will help the master to navigate even before he arrives at the address. When it comes to ovens, there are several common breakdowns.

If the cake is cooked for a very long time, it remains pale on one side, despite the fact that the maximum temperature is set on the regulator, then one of the heating elements may be out of order. It is quite simple to determine this - you need to turn on the oven for a few seconds, then touch the heating elements, having previously protected your hands with an oven mitt. If there is no heating, the elements must be replaced. These parts are usually inexpensive and can be replaced with little effort.

If all the heaters are working, the oven is set to the desired temperature, and the cake is still standing and has not been baked for an hour, it is possible that the whole thing is in the breakdown of the thermostat. It is quite difficult for an ordinary consumer to reliably determine such a breakdown at home, so one cannot do without calling a master.

Electronic display models are very often programmed for self-diagnosis. In other words, when an error occurs in the system, they display information about it on the screen in the form of symbols. Each manufacturer has their own oven error codes, they are detailed in the instructions for specific models. For example, if the BOSCH oven does not turn on and the E011 characters appear on the display, then the possible cause of the malfunction is a long press of one of the buttons, if it is jammed or stuck.Repair of ovens in such cases is not performed, such problems can be eliminated by hand, following the advice of the instructions.

It also happens that malfunctions have nothing to do with the repair of ovens. We are talking about power failures, about a cord accidentally pulled out of the socket, about a not tightly closed door and other trifles. Oddly enough, because of such ridiculous accidents, oven owners spend a lot of nerves. Therefore, before you run to buy spare parts or call a master, you should make sure that the equipment is correctly connected.

These include a burnt out electronic module, a failed timer, damaged contacts, and much more. Repair of ovens in this case should be carried out only in service centers; it is quite problematic to fix such problems with your own hands.

Most buyers are concerned about the cost of spare parts. As a rule, when it comes to heating elements, thermostats and other components, then their price is low. The control unit is a completely different matter. Often, its cost is more than one thousand rubles, and if the unit breaks down, repairing the oven, which is already several years old, is impractical.

The oven (or oven) is a common feature in every kitchen today. Its advantage is that it is easy to use and useful in everyday life. But, like any appliance, the oven can break. There are a number of reasons why malfunctions occur and there are many ways to fix them.

There can be many reasons for oven breakdowns - up to improper installation or power surges. The most common situations:

  • malfunction of the heating coil;
  • malfunctions of the internal fan;
  • the door is depressurized;
  • the cabinet has stopped heating;
  • disturbances in the electrical circuit;
  • failure of the control knobs.

These are common reasons. But gas and electric cabinets have a different principle of operation, respectively, and different types of breakdowns. Consider them separately.

Their main advantage over electrical cabinets is cost effectiveness. Because of the cheapness of gas, cooking with them is less expensive.

The main reasons for the failure of a gas oven are considered: malfunction of the ignition module, electric ignition or electronic control system (in modern models). Also, deterioration of the capillary tube and spontaneous shutdown of the gas can provoke malfunctions.

They are safe and environmentally friendly. Heat is distributed more evenly in them than in a gas cabinet.

  • the temperature is not regulated (does not rise or fall);
  • no heat from above or below;
  • heating is either excessive or insufficient;
  • buttons do not work;
  • does not turn on.

Most often switches burn out in the electric oven... This does not heat up the cabinet. In such a situation, the switches are replaced with new ones.

You can repair ovens with your own hands if you have at least minimal knowledge of electrical engineering, otherwise you should turn to the master for help. It is also highly discouraged to try to repair complex oven components yourself.

Important! In no way is it worth repairing the cabinet yourself, if the warranty period has not expired. In this situation, you should call the master from the service center, who is obliged to carry out repair work for free.

However, there are a number of cases that are considered out of warranty.

  1. There are traces of autopsy: seals, bolts are torn off or scratched.
  2. The closet was incorrectly connected: manufacturer's recommendations were not followed.
  3. Was damaged electronics due to power surge: its permissible limits are exceeded.
  4. Breakage occurred due to impacts and falls of equipment through the fault of the user.
  5. Animals or insects have entered and messed up the wiring.

Before you start repairing ovens, you should first carry out a small initial check, which includes inspecting the power cable for damage, sockets and plugs for traces of melting and carbon deposits, and the integrity of the oven fuse. But first of all, you should check if there is electricity and if the cabinet is connected to it. If all this is in order, and the oven does not work, you need to carefully inspect the main components of the cabinet.

If it is the electronic control unit that is faulty, then often the self-test system itself will warn the user about a breakdown... But you can only repair the control unit yourself if you have good knowledge and experience in electronic technology.

You can replace a broken part of the control unit by pre-ordering it from the manufacturer from the catalog. If there is no such opportunity, or there are doubts about the qualifications of the master (or your own skills), then you can buy and change the whole system.

Many oven models do not have a switch disassembly and cleaning function. Therefore, initial repairs are removing dirt, stripping plates and wires on the timer and switch... If the part still does not work, then it must be replaced.

This detail is often changed when repairing gas ovens. The design does not provide for the replacement of its individual components, therefore a new spare part is purchased and installed entirely... With such a breakdown, it is better to call a professional home. Mechanical thermostats often break down with brands like Miele and Sandy.

If the fan stops blowing air, but the engine is still running, then most often this is due to contamination of the device - oil and grease accumulate on the fans, and dust on the impeller. In this case, the repair consists of cleaning the parts.

Important! If the design allows the disassembly of the oven, then it is necessary to periodically lubricate the engine.

When the supercharger breaks down, it is replaced entirely., since it is cheaper and more expedient than rewinding or other repair of the device. It is located in a non-separable housing together with a gearbox.

Heating element breakage is the most common malfunction... It is especially common with Electrolux models. Heaters are working at their limit almost all the time. Over time, one of the heating elements fails. The malfunction can be determined using a pyrometer. The device will show an area that does not warm up evenly. Then the oven body is disassembled, and the burned-out heating element is replaced new.

In case of other breakdowns: damaged contacts, malfunctioning thermal fuses and backlight lamps, repair or cleaning is not provided. Broken elements are replaced with new ones. It is best to leave it to professionals.

Most ovens have a self-diagnosis function. When a malfunction occurs, information about it enters the display of the device in the form of a specific code. Each the manufacturer uses its own coding system... Below are some of the codes of famous brands.

  • SE - continuous pressure on the button;
  • DE - incorrect use of the dividing panel;
  • E-08 - a problem with the electrical cable, you need to stop the device.
  • F3E0 - malfunction in the NTC sensor (circuit);
  • F04 - overheating of the main board;
  • F14 - a problem with the operation of the ring heating element.
  • E005 - there is no activation of the protective relay, it is required to turn it off - turn on the oven;
  • Er2 - problem with the supply of electricity;
  • E305 - there is no communication between the boards, it is necessary to turn off and then turn on the device.
