All carburetor "nines" use the same contactless ignition system, built on the basis of an electronic switch and a Hall sensor.
The breakdown of the electronics control unit, which is characteristic of the nine, occurs due to the fact that the case passes water, dust and moisture in the form of condensation. The factory has provided a tiny groove for water to drain out of the hull, but it constantly clogs up, the hull fills with water, and the control box slowly breaks down.

The VAZ 21093 wiring diagram is single-wire, with a "minus" permanently closed to the car body, which plays the role of "mass". The rated voltage in the vehicle's on-board network is 12 V.
For the electrical equipment of the VAZ 2109, two sources of electricity are provided - a battery and a generator. The storage battery (accumulator) is used in the car for:
starting the engine after parking;
power supply of electrical circuits when the motor is off.
The negative terminal "ground" of the battery for the VAZ 2109 should be located on the left, when looking at the battery case from the side of the terminals. Most often, "nines" use maintenance-free lead-acid batteries. The nominal battery capacity is 55-60 Ah and can be slightly increased for areas with particularly cold winters.
The generator in the car is designed for:
recharging the battery;
power supply of electrical circuits.
The three-phase alternator VAZ 2109 performs its functions while driving. It has a built-in rectifier and an electronic voltage regulator. Produces from 13.6 to 14.6 V, providing amperage up to 55A. The generator cover is bolted to the stator housing.The rotor rotates in ball bearings mounted in the cover. The excitation winding of the generator rotor is powered through brushes and slip rings.
The electrical circuit of the VAZ 21093 is such that almost all consumers are powered through a fuse box that protects the circuits from short circuits and the entire car from fire.

There are only two systems that are most important for the fundamental possibility of operating your "nine" systems:
engine starting system - starter;
air-fuel mixture ignition system.
And if in an extreme situation you can start the engine without a starter, with a push, then without ignition you will not go anywhere. Perhaps in tow.
Contactless ignition "nine" consists of a distributor sensor, switch, ignition coil, high-voltage wires and spark plugs. The peculiarity of the ignition system is that it uses not only a normal voltage of 12V DC, but also a high impulse voltage up to 30,000 V to ignite the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chambers. It is widely believed among experts that it is this part of the system that is most susceptible to the risk of failure.
The starter of the VAZ 2109 car is a direct current electric motor. It is equipped with an electromagnetic traction relay. When the key is turned in the ignition lock to the "starter" position, the voltage from the battery is supplied to the retraction and holding windings of the traction relay. After the contacts are closed, the retractor winding of the relay is disconnected. The starter engine turns the flywheel of the crankshaft, a spark is supplied to the cylinders, the engine starts to work. After moving the key to the "ignition" position, the starter is switched off.
In the event of a malfunction of the engine starting system alone, the operation of the car is extremely difficult, and if both fail, it is impossible.

The most important part of the auxiliary equipment is the connecting wires. Auxiliary does not mean secondary. On the contrary, when operating the "nine", many motorists are convinced that electronics is the science of contacts. A significant part of the worries associated with the VAZ 2109 is related to the search for breaks, acidification of contacts, and loss of plugs. The wiring diagram is such that all the wires of the VAZ 2109 are assembled in five bundles. Two harnesses go from the mounting block to the passenger compartment. The first connects all indicators, instruments, switches and buttons in the front of the passenger compartment. The other connects the consumers in the rear of the body. The other three harnesses remain in the engine compartment. One goes to the front end consumers, the second goes to the left front wheel arch, and the third serves the engine-related consumers.
The commutation is carried out via the fuse box. The fuse is a metal plate, usually of an aluminum alloy, with a calibrated cross-section. The plate is mounted in a transparent plastic case and installed in the break of one or another chain of the car. When the current permissible in this circuit is exceeded, the plate burns out, stopping the passage of current in this circuit and preventing a fire. The place of destruction is clearly visible through the transparent plastic. It remains only to find the circuit responsible for the failure of the wiring in the album of electrical circuits, eliminate the malfunction and replace the fuse.
Always carry a set of spare fuses with you when traveling. The fuse box also contains a relay and is located in the engine compartment on the left in the direction of the vehicle, near the windshield.
Over the long history of production at AvtoVAZ "nines", the electrical circuit of the VAZ 21093 has changed markedly, there were many options for complete sets and modifications of the car. "Nine" was equipped with different engines: VAZ 2109 - with a 1.3-liter engine, and VAZ 21093 - with a volume of 1.6 liters.In terms of the electrical system, both engines are practically identical. Another thing is the difference between the carburetor and injection versions of the "nine".

The advent of the electronic engine management system (ECM) and electronic devices replacing the carburetor and distributor have complicated the electrical circuit of the car. The ECM in the VAZ 21093 injector took over the following functions:
fuel pump control;
control of the electric fan of the cooling system;
adjustment of the air-fuel mixture, idle speed and ignition timing.
In the fuse box VAZ 21093 there are additional fusible devices that protect the ECM. Make sure that the existing wiring diagram matches the modification of your car. This is all the more important since it is not always enough to ring an injection engine with a tester, sometimes you need special equipment to work with the ECM.
Electrical equipment with "high", "low" and euro panels have their own differences. The most important of these is the lack of a tachometer in the low panel.
