Do-it-yourself electric planer repair rebir

In detail: do-it-yourself repair of an electric plane rebir from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Woodworking involves repetitive physical work. To facilitate this process, you can make an electric plane with your own hands.

Many people enjoy working with wood. This is not surprising, because it is nice to make a wooden table for the veranda yourself, assemble a bench for your own garden, or just replace the leaky boards. Any person, even a beginner, can process wood using this mechanical tool.

This electrical device is designed to reduce the thickness of wood blanks, plan, trim, process boards on the bed, bevel the edges and create extended grooves of various shapes in the products. All this refers to one type of work - planing. The electric planer is not suitable for processing a large area, but with small volumes, the tool will greatly simplify the work of any craftsman.

Elements that will be needed for the correct assembly of the structure:

Table of the main parameters of electric planers.

  • screws;
  • bearings;
  • V-belt pulley;
  • steel corner;
  • protective cover;
  • spring washers;
  • electric motor;
  • steel strips;
  • staples;
  • switch;
  • electric drill with a circle for cutting small diameter;
    welding device;
  • knives;
  • pressure plates.

The electric planer is used for processing wood up to 12 cm wide. The processing depth is 0.12 cm. The workpiece to be processed will rest on a plate with a knife-type shaft hole. The guide bracket is fixed to the base plate with a few M8 screws with plastic caps. This element will not allow lateral displacement of the workpiece during processing.

The knife-type rotary shaft bearing supports will be attached to the plate from below; M6 countersunk head screws must be used as fasteners. Outside the plate, a V-belt pulley will need to be mounted on the end of the knife-type shaft to support it. The plate is fixed with 10 screws to the body of the tool being manufactured, which is welded from a steel corner with dimensions of 20x20x3 mm.

To protect your hands from the planer blade, you need a guard.

The protective cover is secured to the housing with several M6 cylinder head screws. In this case, you will also need to use spring washers. The electric motor of the device being made is placed inside the case; for fastening, you will need to use two supports made of steel strips. They have several holes with a diameter of approximately 6.5 mm, which are intended to be attached to the tool body. Several grooves are provided in the elements, which provide installation and adjustment of the location of the electric motor for tensioning the belt.

The electric motor of the device is controlled by a remote control, which is located on the front of the case. Under the U-shaped bracket inside the console, you will need to place several phase-shifting capacitors, which must be fixed in parallel. The capacity of these elements is 4 μF. The switch is mounted on the outside of the control panel. The electric motor can be protected from direct ingress of dust and chips with a special cover.

The first step is to make a support plate. The most laborious process is making a curly cut in the slab, which is intended for the knives to exit. In this case, you will need to use an electric drill with a circle to cut a small diameter or make holes along the contour, and then process the slot with a file. After preparing the holes for fasteners in the base plate, you will need to make threaded holes along them in the corners of the electric planer body.

Electric planer knives are attached to the top of the rotating drum of the tool.

Before welding, you will need to attach the upper corners with 10 screws to the support plate, after which you need to attach the remaining corners of the body by welding. Next, the plate for the support must be dismantled, the body is finally welded along the contour, then the welding seams must be cleaned. Especially thoroughly it is necessary to clean along the plane in which the body adjoins the plate. It is not allowed to leave gaps, as they can provoke vibration during the operation of the electric planer. This must be taken into account.

Once assembled, the knife-type shaft will rotate counterclockwise towards the feed as viewed from the console. The direction should be exactly towards the feed, since the V-belt pulley cannot move in the other direction. Before starting work, the tool body must be secured without gaps. For fixing, use M6 screws.

The knife-type shaft for grooving must be equipped with several knives, which are 12 cm wide.

A counterweight will need to be installed on the back of the shaft to eliminate unbalance and vibration.

Each knife is secured using clamping plates and M8 screws, which are screwed into the threaded through holes of the knife-type rotating shaft.

A suitable blank for knives is a processed metal saw blade with a thickness of about 3 mm. The angle of sharpening of the edge for cutting knives should be within 35-40 °. In the process of curly sharpening, it will be possible to obtain a relief base for artistic frames or platbands.

Slats of thin profiles can be prepared by longitudinal cutting of thicker boards. In the process of working with knives of small width, it is not allowed to process grooves with a depth of less than 8 mm, since the tool has insufficient strength.

Almost all electrical tools consist of a mains cable with a plug, an off button (in most cases with a voltage regulator), an electric motor, a gearbox, an actuator and a housing.

To repair an electric plane, you will first need to determine the malfunction. If the instrument does not show any signs of life, you will need to use a multimeter or a 220V test lamp.

To carry out repairs, the first step is to disassemble the electric plane. It is necessary to disassemble until all current-carrying elements become accessible. Next, you will need to connect the network cable to the power grid and check the presence of voltage in all sections, starting from the cable itself, ending with the brushes of the electric motor. If all components have been checked and voltage is supplied to the electric motor, it will need to be dismantled and repaired.
