DIY hand dryer repair

In a previous article on our website, you could read about the design of hand dryers and understand that there is nothing complicated about it. There are only 3-4 electrical components in the dryer that can be damaged: the motor, the heating element, the switching element and the electronic board.

If you have a classic type hand dryer installed (the air flow should not be very strong) works, but the air flows very slowly or cold, then most likely the heating element has broken. It is recommended to replace it, because otherwise, your visitors will not be too happy, because the drying time for their hands will grow to 1 minute.

We strongly advise you to contact the service center. If you have a NOFER automatic hand dryer installed, then we are always ready to come to your aid, provide telephone advice, take you to the service center or even arrange for a service specialist to visit your site. If you have a hand dryer from another manufacturer installed and would like to receive a telephone consultation, we are ready to help you too. Call +7 (495) 602-05-85, we will always be happy to help you. If for some other reason you are unable or do not want to contact us, follow these simple instructions:

1) Try to adjust the adjustment accuracy of the sensor, it may be incorrectly adjusted. To do this, you will need to remove the dryer cover and locate the adjustment screws, which are usually found on the electronic board. Perhaps your device is too close to the floor or sink and the sensor may not work correctly due to this installation. This method is only relevant if you have a touchscreen hand dryer installed.

If the first step did not help you, it is most likely that one of the three main electrical components of the dryer has failed: the motor, the device, or the electronic board.

2) We recommend that you start diagnostics from the drive device (sensor or button). If your dryer has a power button, check its connection to the electronic board. If you have a dryer with a sensor and the adjustments from the first step did not help you, then you will need to find a device of the same model and try to swap the sensors. If the dryer with the new sensor works, then you just need to order and install a new sensor. As a rule, this spare part is very inexpensive.

3) If after replacing the sensor your dryer still does not come to its senses, then most likely the matter is in the electronic board (the brain of the dryer). To diagnose its breakdown, you will need to do the same operation as with the sensor, namely, find a similar dryer that works and swap the electronic boards. If this step was successful and your drying is working, you will need to replace the electronic board, its cost will be about 30-50% of the cost of the dryer, regardless of the manufacturer.

4) If all the above steps did not help, the engine on your unit has broken down. As a rule, in this case, it is more profitable to buy a new hand dryer.

In any case, it is recommended to contact the service center in the event of a breakdown, even if you yourself were able to determine what was wrong with your drying.

A fruit and vegetable dryer when it breaks down can bring a lot of grief to any housewife. If the dryer does not heat up, do not throw it away and run to the store for a new one.Today we will try to eliminate one of the most common malfunctions in fruit and vegetable dryers. Repair of a vegetable dryer, as practice shows, can take 15-20 minutes of free time. Go!

Drying Vinis was admitted with symptoms: "The dryer does not heat." This is not expensive drying and the breakdown that caused this problem should be solved simply, there is practically nothing to break.

We disassemble the drying and check the integrity of the heating element.

The open-type heating element is visually intact, the continuity of its conclusions confirms this. Before the heating element, a thermal fuse is included in the circuit, which must also be checked.

As practice shows, it is often thermal fuses or heating elements that are the culprits of such symptoms. In our case, the thermal fuse is faulty.

Instead of a thermal fuse, you can put a jumper and check the drying performance. If everything works fine and the heating element does not overheat, you can blame it all on a poor-quality thermal fuse.

If the air flow is clearly weak and the heating element starts to overheat, then it is worth doing prophylaxis for the fan motor. Just a couple of drops of engine oil on felt gaskets near the bushings can reduce friction in the bushings of the engine and increase the speed of rotation of its blades. Decreased engine speed can also provoke overheating of the heating element and failure of the thermal fuse.

After all the manipulations, the jumper can be replaced with a new thermal fuse and dried.

Let's notice right away that I don't have a lot of experience with hand dryers. From time to time they find themselves in repair, as a rule, with minor defects, and nothing more. But even these infrequent acquaintances give a big picture, most hand dryer schemes are similar to each other like twin brothers and work on the same principle. Therefore, it is enough to consider one of the representatives of this category of equipment in order to understand how all the others work.

The work of the BXG-200 hand dryer is performed according to the classical algorithm, you need to bring your hands into the range of the sensors to turn on the drying mode. Accordingly, if you remove your hands, the drying will turn off after a while.

A special feature of the plastic version of the hand dryer is the lack of grounding, in principle.

The power supply has output voltages

- unstabilized + 12V, for powering the relay coil

- stabilized + 9V, for power supply of all logic.

The emitters are made in the form of two LEDs connected in series with the ballast resistor R1 (51 Ohm). The LEDs are switched on in a pulsed mode, the pulses to the LED switch-on transistor are supplied from a generator made on a DD3.2 microcircuit (HCF4093BE). Pulses from the generator and from the photodiode output are fed to the Schmitt trigger DD3.1, then to DD3.3, DD3.4 and from the 11th leg of DD3, the signal level corresponding to the state of the sensors is removed. Usually, the base of the key transistor that controls the winding of the power relay (semiconductor) is connected here. In our case, the DD2 chip (HCF4541BE) is installed, which provides a delay in turning off the fan after the hands leave the range of the sensors. Most likely, the meaning of this delay is to prevent the hand dryer from turning off if the hands accidentally leave the sensor range, in order to prevent the fan from restarting. The signal for the key transistor Q1 (SS8050), which controls the relay coil K1, is removed from the 8th leg of DD2.

The heater temperature is 40-45C. Protection against overheating of the heater when the fan motor is jammed is provided by a thermal fuse at 150C.The design of the heater avoids damage due to deformation of the elements in case of switching on and off.

Quite a common situation when an urgent repair of a clothes dryer is required. Since modern products are not made of very high quality, such a breakdown can occur at any time. It is especially offensive when this happens immediately after washing, if necessary, hang out damp, clean laundry. It is in such a situation that you can quickly repair the device and solve the resulting problem.

Most of the products for drying clothes on the loggia are made in China. Moreover, it is not done very well. Therefore, it is quite a frequent situation when some elements fail. One of the most common breakdowns of such dryers is the development of a gear, along which the rope moves. This happens because it is made of plastic. Naturally, over time, the wheel will rub and the rope will jam.

The way out is simple if you have a spare analog at hand. In such a situation, the procedure is as follows:

  • Using the pliers, a metal pin is pulled out that holds the gear.
  • The defective part is removed from the special grooves.
  • Instead, a new metal wheel is installed.
  • It is fixed with the same metal rod.

When checking the functionality, a slight creak may be produced at the moment of friction. In this case, the rod must be lubricated with machine oil. This will reduce metal-to-metal friction and serve as a good lubricant. The use of sunflower oil is not recommended, since it, due to the presence of organic compounds in its composition, can lead to the formation of plaque and subsequent failure of the replaced part.

You can find the necessary wheel in an old sewing machine. Gears in older models were used for winding threads.

Those who constantly use such household items periodically have a question: how to fix a tumble dryer that suddenly broke. In most cases, there are two options for their breakdown. In the first case, metal rods are torn off, which were allegedly "welded" to the frame. Moreover, this phrase is not in vain written in quotation marks. The quality of fixation can hardly be called otherwise, since after six months of operation of the dryer, about 50% of the rods fly off the frame. In the second case of breakage, the legs come off the main body of the product, which does not allow its further use.

Watch the video on how to properly repair a tumble dryer without welding:

There are several ways to attach the rungs to the main frame. The list will start with the simplest, and end with the most difficult mounting method:

  • Carry out the fixation using nylon ties.
  • Tighten with wire.
  • By cold welding. The method is quite simple, especially since the instructions for its use are attached on the package.
  • Solder with a soldering iron.
  • Drill a hole in the housing. Bend the tip of the bar about 0.5 - 1 cm downward. Thus, the drilled hole in the frame must line up with the fold. After completing all the manipulations, insert the bent end into the frame and wrap it with electrical tape.
  • The best quality can be called the connection of the rupture site using conventional welding. However, to restore its normal appearance, the dryer will need to be painted. This method is in the last place in terms of complexity, since not every apartment has an inverter welding machine.

If you decide to weld the torn off place, it is advisable to weld all the joints of the parts at the same time. This will prevent subsequent damage to the dryer, which will inevitably follow.
