The inner screw is for vertical adjustment of the headlights and the outer screw is for horizontal adjustment.

When adjusting the headlights, the following conditions must be met:

- the tire pressure must be within the normal range, - only the driver must be in the car, - the fuel in the fuel tank must be more than 90%, - the car must be parked on its wheels on a flat horizontal surface, - before adjusting, the car body must be shaken to so that all the suspension elements fall into place, - set the headlight range control to position 0, - only the dipped headlights are adjusted. The luminous flux of the headlamps has a slope of 10 cm at a distance of 10 m, i.e. 1%.

Before replacing the external light bulb, remove the ground wire from the battery. Remember that if the light has just been lit, it may be too hot. Check the appropriate circuit and fuse before replacing the ambient light bulb. Do not touch the glass bulb with bare hands. To access the right Volkswagen headlight bulbs, remove the air intake. To do this, unscrew the two screws (A) securing the air intake. Pull up the air intake at the rear end (B) and move it towards the middle of the vehicle. Pull back the plastic headlight cover and remove it. Remove the electrical connector from the back of the headlight bulb and squeeze the bulb spring brackets and move the brackets to the side. Remove the headlight bulb. When installing the bulb, do not touch the glass bulb of the bulb with your hands. Install a new Passat low beam bulb so that the locating nose of the poppet flange falls into the recess of the reflector. Secure the light bulb with a spring clip, snapping it into the retainer and connect the electrical connector to the light bulb. Install the rear plastic headlight cover.

Pull back the plastic cover and remove it from the headlight. Remove the electrical connector from the back of the headlight bulb and squeeze the bulb spring brackets and move the brackets to the side. Remove the headlight bulb. Install a new Passat high beam bulb so that the locating nose of the poppet flange falls into the recess of the reflector. In this case, the middle of the three contacts of the electrical connector will take the upper position. Secure the bulb with a spring clip and connect the electrical connector to the bulb and fit the rear plastic cover over the headlight.

Pull back the plastic cover and remove it from the back of the headlight. Remove the Passat front side light bulb holder from the bottom of the reflector. Press and, in this position, turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket. Insert the new bulb into the socket, press in and, in this position, turn clockwise until the bulb locks in place. Insert the bulb holder into the reflector and fit the plastic headlight cover. This completes the replacement of the Volkswagen Passat front light bulb.
