The generator is a rather complex and high-precision unit. For its disassembly, troubleshooting and assembly, special equipment is required. Therefore, if you do not have the skills to perform such work, in the event of a generator failure, we recommend that you contact a specialized workshop for its repair or replace the complete generator.

You will need: socket heads or spanners "12" and "24", screwdrivers

with flat and cruciform blades, soldering iron, tester, rotor bearing puller, hammer.

1. Remove the generator from the car (see "Removal and installation of the generator", page 199).

4. Remove the generator from the vice and remove the pulley from the rotor shaft.

20. Inspect the drive end cover of the generator. If during the rotation of the bearing you feel a play between the rings, rolling or jamming of the rolling elements, damaged protective rings, or there are traces of grease leakage, replace the bearing. If cracks are found in the cover, especially in the places where the generator is attached, it is necessary to replace the cover with a new one.

24. Press the new bearing into the cover with a mandrel of the appropriate diameter, applying force to the outer ring.

25. Check the ease of rotation of the bearing from the side of the slip rings. If, during the rotation of the bearing, play between the rings, rolling or jamming of the rolling elements is felt, the protective rings are damaged or there are traces of grease leakage, the bearing should be replaced. To do this, press the bearing off the rotor shaft and install a new one by applying force to the inner ring.

29. Connect the test leads of the tester to the stator housing and, in turn, to each winding lead. The measured resistance should be very large (it tends to infinity). Otherwise, replace the stator.

30. Check the rectifier unit. To do this, connect the test leads of the tester to the terminal

phase winding of the stator and air radiator of diodes. By swapping the tester probes, measure the resistance. If the tester readings are the same in both cases, the rectifier unit is defective and needs to be replaced.

31. Check the other two diode circuits of the generator in the same way.

33. Assemble the generator in the reverse order of removal, orienting the generator covers and stator housing according to the previously made marks.Before installing the cover from the side of the slip rings, sink the brushes and fix them in this position by inserting a pin into the hole in the cover (for example, an unbent large paper clip). After assembly, remove the pin. Tighten the pulley retaining nut to a torque of (189 + 19) Nm.

If the brushes are not locked in the recessed position, they will break on the edge of the slip ring when the cover is installed.

If the generator cannot be repaired on Chery Fora, we will replace the generator with a new or rebuilt one. Repair of a Chery Fora generator takes 1-2 days, depending on the complexity of the repair. The feasibility of repair or replacement is determined on the spot by the master after diagnostics.

It has already been said above that in order for the generator to become operational again, most likely it is necessary to change the bearing or the brush assembly. It is with checking the latter that the repair of the generator should begin, since it is quite easy to get to this evil.

To disassemble the device, you need 7 socket and TORX E8 socket heads, as well as a flat screwdriver. When working with individual elements, other tools may be required, such as a soldering iron, a tester, etc.

In the photo you see a diagram for checking the length of the brushes. If the length "H" is less than 2 mm, you need to replace them. The above diagram will help you solve one of the most common problems with the Chery Amulet and Kimo generators.

Another common problem is hum that occurs due to bearing problems. Most often, the back cover part is destroyed, its replacement will be discussed below

Examine the cover.If, when the bearing rotates, you notice irregularities such as play, rolling, seizure, the part needs to be replaced. To do this, remove the old bearing and press in a new one using a mandrel.

Replacing the alternator belt is quite simple. You will need a “17” socket and a rod with a diameter of 2-3 mm.

  1. You will need to remove the engine cover, right front wheel and front wheel arch liner to get to the systems you want. Then remove the power steering belt.
  2. Now, using the socket, release the belt tension and turn the tensioner clockwise.
  3. Next, remove the belt from the alternator pulley. Next, set the tensioning mechanism to its original position using the spring and remove the belt completely.
  4. Now you need to turn the tensioner clockwise so that the holes in its housing and the tensioner roller arm line up. Fix the position using the rod. Install a new belt, remove the retainer. Refit the power steering and other removed parts.
