On the forum, there were questions about where the generator relay is located, how to disassemble the generator and replace the brushes, diode bridge. This video shows all this clearly. True, the voice acting is in English, but still a lot is understandable even without knowing the language. But the generator is ours, I mean - it is the one that is put on Karens, moreover, the diesel one. The relay is located inside the generator, it changes with the brushes and the diode bridge.
Removing the alternator pulley with an overrunning clutch is not shown in the video, it doesn't matter, there are a lot of similar videos on YouTube.

There are a couple of comments about my generator and pulley, the photo of which I posted above, please take into account. First, there was no turnkey sprocket on the end of the rotor axis from the side of the pulley. That is, not that the number of teeth does not coincide with the puller or something else, but is not provided at all. And there is a turnkey place in the pulley and it coincides with the puller. I had to remove the generator. I went to the service, where the generator was removed and the pulley was turned off with a wrench.
And second, the INA 535 024110 pulley, which I ordered in Exist and which was listed as intended for diesel Karens, actually turned out to be almost the same as the original one. The inner seating part of the pulley had a protrusion of about 5 mm on the side facing the generator. The belt would be skewed when installed. I had to give the pulley to the turner in order to grind off the excess. After adjustment, the pulley sat in place like a native. Considering that the INA pulley is much cheaper than the original one, I think it is still profitable to install it after a little modification.

It took me to replace the generator on the Kia Picanto car. I prepared a set of necessary tools and got to work. We open the hood of the car and pull out the negative terminal of the battery. After that we turn off the alarm bell. Next, we remove the connectors from the generator itself and set them aside as much as possible. Don't be afraid to confuse them, they are all different. We unscrew the fastening bolt and remove the tensioner.
The second bolt is responsible for the belt tension, it is best not to unscrew it, but to tighten it. We unscrew the rest of the fasteners and remove the alternator belt. Now we climb down. There we pull out the connector of the brushes, unscrew the nut that secures the generator to the power unit of the car. The generator has been dismantled and lies on the steering rack.
We unscrew the positive wire.There is a rubber cap, it will need to be cut, and during reassembly, wrap with electrical tape. We climb under the hood again, maximize the tensioner. We grab the generator by the pulley and take it out. On the standard generator, Picanto found cracks, plus the bearings were also worn out and the relay-regulator stopped functioning. I already bought a new generator in advance. Was it possible to repair the old generator. Honestly, I cannot say for sure, but still, if the bearing and relay could still be changed, then what was to be done with the crack?
Was it possible to cook it? If so, how to cook? In general, it is easier and more reliable to buy a new generator, which is exactly what I, in principle, did. I installed a new generator, put in a new belt, started the car - everything works fine. To make the generator feel full load, I turned on all lights, air conditioning, all drives - the belt does not whistle, the voltage is normal. So everything is in order, I no longer have a reason to dig into the generator, you can close the hood. Now we need to resolve the issue with the starter, because sometimes the car will not start, the starter simply does not turn. Most likely, the retractor relay needs to be replaced, so that here I can also make repairs with my own hands.
The metal flap is covered with Velcro trim. We shoot.

Next, we proceed to remove the fuel supply pipe. Here the connector is with a lock, so you should not be zealous and pull out by the roots.
We press the plastic retainer with a flat screwdriver.
Having released the connectors, unscrew the flange bolts with a curly screwdriver. But it was not possible to unscrew all of them with a screwdriver. Fortunately, the manufacturer took this moment into account and provided for their design with the ability to unscrew the "head" by 8.
We remove the filter from the tank. For ease of disassembly, I placed it on a metal baking sheet.
In order for gasoline vapors to not poison the garage air, cover the tank opening with a piece of plastic wrap, pressing it with the previously removed flange.
Remove the metal clamp with a screwdriver.
We remove one of the pipes going to the fuel filter. Attention! The filter is full of gasoline. Prepare a container for draining.
We drain the rest of the gasoline from the filter into a previously prepared container.
Next, you need to disconnect the second pipe. It's more difficult with him. It is fixed with a very fragile plastic latch with 3 fasteners.
Note that the 3rd latch that looks inward is broken. So the crazy pens have already been here. They didn’t see it corny and broke it.
We remove a couple of e-mails. connectors on the top cover of the fuel pump structure.
Disconnect the fuel pump power connector.
We are trying to get the filter directly. Gently bend the plastic clips with a screwdriver.
Pull up and take out the filter.
Under the filter we see a grid for coarse fuel cleaning. Do not forget to remove any accumulated dirt from it. I blew with a compressor.
This is what the bottom of the fuel receiver looks like. We also cleanse the dirt.
We release the filter with the fuel pump from the top cover. To do this, remove the retaining rings on the two rods. In my case, there was only one snap ring. Kiavoda, can you tell me, it should be so?
Ready. Now the last stage of disassembly is to separate the filter from the fuel pump itself.
We bend back the plastic latches.
Finally, the fuel pump is freed from the dirty filter.

2. Checking the level and condition of oil in the Kia Carens engine, the second step of testing. To do this, you need to pull out the dipstick, and also look at the oil by unscrewing the filler cap. If the oil is black, and even worse black and thick, then this indicates that the oil has changed for a long time.
If there is a white emulsion on the filler cap or you can see how the oil foams, then this may indicate that water or coolant has entered the oil.
3. Checking spark plugs Kia Carens. Remove all plugs from the engine; they can be checked one at a time. They must be dry. If the candles are covered with an insignificant layer of yellowish or light brown carbon deposits, then you should not worry, such carbon deposits are quite normal and permissible, and do not affect the work.
If there are traces of liquid oil on the Kia Karenz candles, then the piston rings or valve stem seals are likely to be replaced. Black carbon deposits indicate an over-enriched fuel mixture. The reason is improper operation of the Kia fuel system, or a too clogged air filter. The main symptom will be increased fuel consumption.

4. The Kia Carens ignition coil does not often fail, most often this happens due to old age, insulation is damaged and a short circuit occurs. It is better to change the coils in accordance with the mileage according to the regulations. But it happens that a breakdown is caused by bad candles or punctured high-voltage wires. To check the Kia coil, it must be removed.
After removal, you need to make sure that the insulation is intact, there should be no black spots or cracks. Next, a multimeter should go into the course, if the coil is burnt out, then the device will show the maximum possible value. You should not check the Kia Carens coil using the old-fashioned method for the presence of a spark between the spark plugs and the metal part of the car. This method takes place in old cars, while on Kia Carens, due to such manipulations, not only the coil can burn out, but also the entire electrics of the car.
5. Is it possible to diagnose engine malfunction by smoke from the exhaust pipe of Kia Carens? Exhaust can tell a lot about the condition of an engine. In the warm season, no thick or gray smoke should be visible from a serviceable car.
If white smoke is visible, then this may indicate a burnt gasket or a leak in the Kia Karenz cooling system. If the smoke is black, then at best these are problems due to an over-enriched fuel mixture. At worst, problems with the piston group.
If the smoke has a bluish tint, it means that the Kia Carens engine is using oil. This small gap contains an oil film that prevents parts from touching.But over time, the gap expands, the oily film can no longer be evenly distributed, friction of the parts of the Kia Carens engine occurs, as a result of which very intense wear begins.
Each node in the Kia Carens engine has a specific sound:
- A loud, frequent sound heard at all engine speeds indicates the need to adjust the valves;
- An even knock, which does not depend on the speed, is caused by the valve-distributor mechanism, which indicates the wear of its elements;
- A distinct short knock, increasing at higher revs, warns of the imminent end of the connecting rod bearing.
This is only a small part of the possible sounds as a result of certain malfunctions. Every Kia driver must remember the sound of a normally working engine in order to react quickly to any changes in it.
7. Diagnostics of the engine cooling system Kia Karenz. With proper operation of the cooling system and sufficient heat dissipation, after starting the engine, the liquid circulates only in a small circle through the heater radiator, which contributes to the rapid warming up of both the engine itself and the Kia Carens interior in the cold season.
When the normal operating temperature of the Kia Carens engine is reached (about 60-80 degrees), the valve opens slightly, i.e. the liquid partially flows into the radiator, where it gives off heat through it. Together with this, the Kia Karenz radiator fan turns on, it contributes to better blowing out of hot air between the radiator cells. Overheating can damage the engine and require costly repairs.
8. Typical malfunctions of the Kia Carens cooling system. If the fan does not work when the critical temperature mark is reached, then first of all it is necessary to check the fuse, then the Kia Karenz fan itself and the integrity of the wires to it are examined. But the problem may turn out to be more global, perhaps the temperature sensor (thermostat) is out of order.
The performance of the Kia Karenz thermostat is checked as follows: the engine is preheated, a hand is applied to the bottom of the thermostat, if it is hot, then it is in good order.
