A more expensive option for repairing a muffler may be to replace one damaged element, such as the middle or rear. Welding is not needed here, but you will need to buy the actual new part of the muffler.

I am describing a typical situation that I checked out of sports interest in three stations in St. Petersburg, specializing in the repair of mufflers:

- wrench - "ratchet" with a head 14 and an extension;
- flat screwdriver
- a pair of gloves;

2. We inspect the fastening of the intake pipe to the exhaust manifold, clean it from dirt. We take the key, a 14-point head and an extension, and unscrew the three nuts (1) securing the intake pipe flange to the exhaust manifold flange. These connections work at high temperatures and can "stick", but it is not difficult to break them - this is where the burner will help. I do not advise using grease or a liquid wrench on these connections, it will stink very much, it is better to slightly warm the nuts with a burner right away. (ATTENTION! When working with the burner, do not overdo or melt the screw connections! To do this, use an oxygen-poor flame - it is yellow-red, not an oxygen-rich blue flame.
While the nuts are hot, unscrew them with a wrench without any difficulty and put them to cool on a non-combustible surface. I do not advise throwing them into water, they can deform from this and lose strength. Remove the old gasket (2) between the front exhaust pipe and the front muffler.

3. We pass to the connection of the inlet pipe with the front muffler, unscrew the two nuts with the same wrench for 14. If they are stuck, use the "liquid wrench" or again the burner. Disconnect the flanges with a screwdriver. If the entire muffler is ejected, you can simply cut it off with a cut-off machine.

5. We unscrew the two nuts securing the connection of the front and rear mufflers, or we also start up the cutting machine.

6. Remove the two rubber earrings securing the front muffler to the body and remove it.

7.Remove the earrings securing the rear muffler and remove it.

8. Install the new muffler in reverse order, remembering to install the gaskets between the muffler parts. If the old nuts are worn out, we replace them with new ones.

• First of all, it is clearly seen that the old can is somewhat smaller in size than in the new original one.

• This is what affected the volume of the exhaust when the engine of the Daewoo Matiz car was running before the repair.

• Now we release the receiving tube tied up by us at the beginning and in the same way connect it to the other end of the resonator.

• In this case, as a rule, all connections are made in such a way that the bolt heads are in front of the vehicle, in this case Daewoo Matiz, and the body remains behind.
• After finishing the installation of the muffler, take it well with both hands and shake it in the longitudinal and transverse axes.

• At the same time, he should not make any sounds and touch any parts or assemblies of the car.
• This will be an indication that you performed the replacement correctly.
• It is worth noting that for about a day or two you will smell the burnt paint. We want to say that you should not worry about this, since this is a completely normal situation: the muffler paint will simply burn during engine operation.
