In detail: do-it-yourself Chevrolet Aveo gur repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
We make do-it-yourself replacement of a faulty power steering bearing in a Chevrolet Aveo car. The old bearing was worn out and made an unpleasant noise during operation, similar to the sound of a tractor. The whole process is shown in detail, the video is in good quality, along the way, voice comments are inserted explaining this or that action. For work, we need to remove the power steering pump and drain its oil. The cost of a new bearing is in the region of 500 rubles, the pump assembly is more than 5000 rubles, do the benefits from this repair yourself. Not every car service will undertake such work, since it is time-consuming, and if they do, they will take so much money that it will be more profitable to install a new pump.
Attention, there is one nuance, the author of the video did not press out the bearing on his own, but turned to a professional turner for help, who helped with this task, if you have a special press, then there will be no problems.
Video of replacing the power steering bearing in the Chevrolet Aveo (Chevrolet Aveo):
If you still fail to replace the bearing with a power steering, although if your hands are inserted from the right place, then there will be no problems, at least learn how to remove and install the pump. repair of Chevrolet Aveo
I want to note that the engine starts to operate due to the pump under the action of the belt. When the steering wheel rotates, the flow and flow of fluid is controlled by the valve block.
The components of the system are: a hydraulic steering pump (responsible for pressure), a distributor (supplies fluid to the cylinders), a hydraulic cylinder (moves the piston, which is responsible for transmitting a signal to the wheels) and hoses (provide fluid circulation).

Let's move on to the most important thing - dismantling. Referring to my experience, I will give an extended instruction. When starting to dismantle, remember where which bolts were in order to easily reassemble. So, from the beginning you need to remove the V-ribbed belt. Do not start the car, put its front-wheel drive on supports, then remove the belt described above, unscrew the hollow bolt of the discharge pipe. Then you need to remove the two O-rings.
In action, I loosen the hose clamp of the vacuum line, which leaves the power steering without a hose. Then I fix the power steering pulley so that it does not move and remove it. The next step is to unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the pump itself, then fill it with the desired liquid, check it three times so that the oil evenly covers all cavities.
To identify malfunctions, let me remind you what precedes them: leakage of working fluid into the external space, airing of the general system, late fluid change, replacement of a fluid that is not intended for your car. And also what cannot be avoided - pump overheating, bending of oil lines; dirt, foreign bodies (a lump of oily dust is the most common occurrence). I happened to accumulate a similar mixture near the filler cap of the power steering tank. The worst part is the editing is not according to the rules.
Diagnostics is carried out by means of our own analysis of the technical condition of the vehicle. Among the pathologies are noise, whistling, which may indicate a weak fastening of the steering couplings or that the hose is dangling, from which a similar sound occurs. Rattling - you need to check the hose, lubricate the gears prophylactically, pay attention to the steering wheel, its fastening itself and its tip. It is important to remember that the steering wheel can touch the signal switch housing, you can check the camber adjustment, as well as the shaft bearings.Possibly heavy rotation of the steering wheel during a quick maneuver, this may indicate the power steering, namely its pump, clogged hoses, possibly insufficient fluid.
I had tremors (vibration) when turning the steering wheel while driving. I can say with confidence that this indicates a malfunction of the main pump, a breakdown of the control valve, insufficient belt tension and the presence of air in the steering system. When you feel a loose steering wheel or backlash while driving, this is one hundred percent evidence of air ingress, and also that it is necessary to change the steering rods and wheel bearings.
How can you independently check the operation of steering racks, gearboxes and power steering pumps? Of course, using a portable device, you can estimate the pressure in the steering system at extreme positions, indicate the maximum pressure from using the pump, view the fluid flow (estimated in liters per minute), measure various leaks, and also see contamination. It is important to pay attention to the steering rack (check it for leaks, the operation of the spool shaft selector and the presence of backlash).
I will not say that it is easy to do the repair, but if you are confident in your abilities, you can start it, and if not, then it is better to contact the specialists.
After you have examined the hydraulic booster, removed it and diagnosed it, you can start repairing it.
I do it this way: I clean all the parts, I change the bearings and seals for new ones, I examine the parts that I need - I change, I use only the original models, I fill in a new oil liquid (in no case use the old substance), I blow through the air, then I check everything. in action while driving at low speed.
The repair itself can take a maximum of two days, it all depends on the condition of the hydraulic booster. I use vane pumps - they will last longer than usual, they are mounted on the engine, and the drive is carried out by a belt drive from the crankshaft. The kit includes hoses. If necessary, I change them.
Then I put the device back together: I put the power steering pump with bolts on the pivot bracket, tighten them, then install the pulley and tighten the bolts.
Then you need to install the bracket and pump. To do this, I use eccentric bolts on the holder, the latter must be attached to the bracket and the cylinder block. Next, I tighten everything with bolts and install the belt, tightening it well.
Finally, when everything is done, I check the hydraulic fluid level in the receiver. It is important to remember that this level should not decrease with successful work.
The recording shows one of the methods of replacing the power steering pump bearing on a Chevrolet Aveo car. The power steering pump is being repaired by a motorist.
Hello everyone. A subscriber asked me to show how the bearing is removed from the power steering in a Chevrolet Aveo car. So in this video I will show you how to completely disassemble the power steering pump. I have already partially disassembled it. Here, I took off the back cover. This cover has one bearing, it is roller bearing. This is the first thing. And secondly, in order to disassemble the power steering pump on the Chevrolet Aveo, you need to somehow remove the pulley from it. I'll try to squeeze it out with a press. If it doesn’t work, then I’ll just hit the shaft with a sledgehammer and see how it was arranged.
The press failed to squeeze out. I will hit the shaft. The shaft went. Now I take the pain longer and continue to knock out the pulley. In fact, the Chevrolet Aveo power steering pump has been disassembled. Here you can see the bearing that interests us. Now I’ll try to knock him out. By the way, if someone is confused by my rough methods, then this power steering pump is no longer working. He forked very hard, I took it off and put a new one. I bought it at Zaz Shop.
After the blows, it turned out that the bearing was sealed. There is an oil seal under it. If you change it, you will have to drive it back in. He sits pretty tight. Perhaps he will hold on. But be careful not to knock off the axis of the shaft.In general, bearing replacement will be a little problematic. It may be necessary to fix it somehow additionally.

The power steering pump is considered a high-tech unit that pumps fluid under a certain pressure into the steering mechanism and creates a circulation of fluid in the steering mechanism. Today we will talk in more detail about the power steering pump for Chevrolet Aveo cars.
So, the presented article contains answers to such fairly common questions:
What is a power steering?
What is the principle of operation of the power steering?
What is a power steering pump?
How is the installation of a hydraulic booster on a Chevrolet Aveo vehicle carried out correctly?
Faults in the power steering pump on a Chevrolet Aveo car?
How to properly repair the power steering pump on a Chevrolet Aveo car?
Almost all modern vehicles are equipped with power steering wheels. Power steering or, as it is abbreviated as power steering, is the hydraulic system of the vehicle, part of the steering mechanism, which is designed to facilitate the direction of movement of the vehicle while maintaining the necessary feedback, as well as ensuring the stability of the functioning and unambiguity of the specified trajectory. Power steering is one of the most important elements of steering any vehicle. The main purpose of the power steering is to create side forces at the time of steering wheel rotation due to the presence of an electric drive.
Experienced motorists highlight several main advantages of the power steering on Chevrolet Aveo cars, such as:
High level of reliability;
High information content;
Low fuel consumption;
Ease of adjusting the technical specifications of the manual.
Power steering for Chevrolet Aveo cars includes the following main elements:
Pump. Thanks to this device, the circulation of the operating fluid and pressure is ensured.
Steering gearbox with distributor. It provides an air flow that directs the oil to the desired cylinder or back to the reservoir.
Cylinder. With the help of the cylinder, the fluid pressure is converted into the movement of the piston and rod.
Oil that transfers resistance from the pump to the cylinder and also lubricates all vapors. It is located in a plastic tank with a built-in filtering agent, and a dipstick is located in its plug, which determines the level of the liquid. In addition, all units are connected by high pressure hoses that circulate fluid in the booster system.
The power steering pump is an element that is included in the steering mechanism of a car, and it is designed to pump fluid and ensure its circulation in the steering mechanism.
Today, the power steering vane pump is quite common, because due to its low sensitivity to surface wear and high efficiency.
The installation of a power steering on a Chevrolet Aveo is simply necessary, because thanks to this equipment, the steering wheel is rotated. And thanks to the torso, the transmission of torque to the steering system is ensured, at the same time the twist and angle of rotation of this wheel are measured. To carry out such measurements, special sensors are used, and the information received is transmitted to the hydraulic booster. This is how the maintenance of the functioning of the hydraulic booster in the required mode occurs.
After that, the torque is transferred to the steering gear and the drive wheels of the vehicle.The torque is provided by the electronic guide circuit with the help of the maximum functioning of the car engine.
Due to active use and heavy loads, the power steering pump often needs to be repaired. First, let's look at the main reasons why the power steering pump can break.
So, the reasons for the breakdown of the power steering pump:
Overheating of the pump;
Leakage of liquid from the system;
Airing the system;
Accumulation of dust and dirt in the system;
Improper installation, maintenance or repair of the system;
Using the wrong fluid;
Untimely fluid replacement;
Kinking of the oil lines of the system.
All parts can be repaired and the power steering pump is no exception. The difficulty lies only in the fact that the power steering pump for a Chevrolet Aveo car is not understandable, which means that it does not have any covers or retaining rings. But you can still repair the power steering pump. First you need to remove and disassemble the power steering pump according to the instructions that come with the kit. After that, you need to thoroughly clean it from dirt and dust, and also inspect it to find the cause of the breakdown. The cause of the breakdown may be the wear of the oil seal, in which case it must be replaced. When installing the oil seal, it may be necessary to sharpen the roller a little.
There are several ways to fix the new bearing to the pump structure:
Make a recess on the outside of the bearing, drill threaded holes in the pump wall, install a new bearing and secure it with sharpened bolts.
Secure the bearing in the middle of the power steering pump using the folded edges of the housing.
After completing the repair, you need to assemble the power steering pump in the reverse order. Please note that after the repair, new parts may create some noise, but this is all about grinding in new parts. Be sure to replace the power steering fluid after repairs.
Due to the lack of a power steering on a Chevrolet Aveo car, many motorists decide to install the power steering on their own car. Naturally, it will also be necessary to adjust the gearbox speed sensor, otherwise, at the start of the movement at low speeds, the driver will not notice any changes. That is, the steering wheel will turn slightly harder.
At the moment of a set of high speeds, the steering wheel will move to the owner of the vehicle with a low level of resistance.
The most difficult procedure is considered to be the replacement of the gearbox. To carry out this procedure, you will need to cut a hole in the front flap and slightly modify the bipod. To install the gearbox, it will be necessary to install the bracket to which the power steering pump is screwed onto the head of the cylinder block. After that, you need to change the pulley on the crankshaft, and the drive for the pump using a belt drive. Next, you will need to think over the location of the expansion tank, as well as combine all the hoses and fill in oil.
Chevrolet Aveo (2004+). Replacing the power steering pump
If the pump fails, replace it as an assembly, since repair requires special tools and equipment.The manufacturer recommends removing the pump after removing its pulley, since the pulley does not allow you to remove the pump from the bracket studs, resting on the right side member of the body However, on a Chevrolet car Aveo the pulley is attached to the pump shaft with a TORX bolt tightened with a high torque In addition, the pulley is located very close to the side member, even with the appropriate tool it is very difficult to unscrew the bolt. it is enough to raise the right side of the power unit to such a position,in which the pump pulley passes over the spar. This method of removing the pump is described in this subsection.
You will need: keys "for 10", "for 16", socket heads "for 10", "for 12", "for 14", a container for collecting the working fluid
13.and disconnect the piping from the pump
14. Lower the disconnected drain and discharge lines into a previously prepared container and drain the remaining working fluid from them.
15. Through the holes in the pulley of the power steering pump, unscrew the two nuts of the studs securing the pump to the bracket
16 Remove the right headlamp unit (see ((Replacing the headlamp unit, p, 234)
It is necessary to remove the headlamp unit for the reason that its housing will not allow removing the power steering pump from the engine compartment.
17. Move aside the air conditioning system pipe, as far as the flexibility of its hoses allows, remove the power steering pump from the studs 18 ..and, turning it, as shown in the photo, towards the radiator of the cooling system, remove it from the engine compartment.
19 Install the power steering pump and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
20 Fill the power steering system with working fluid and remove air from it (see "Replacing the working fluid and bleeding the power steering system", from 190)
If the pump fails, replace it as an assembly, as repair requires special tools and equipment.
You will need: keys "for 12", "for 14", "for 19", "for 24", a flat-blade screwdriver, a syringe, a mounting paddle.
1. Remove the accessory drive belt (see Replacing the accessory drive belt).
2. Loosen the clamp of the supply hose to the power steering pump by squeezing its bent ears with pliers.
3. Slide the clamp over the hose ...
4.… and disconnect the supply hose from the pump connection.
5. Drain the hydraulic fluid from the power steering reservoir into a previously prepared container.
6. Squeeze the retainer on the power steering fluid pressure sensor wiring harness connector ...
8. Remove the harness holder from the bracket on the power-assisted steering pump housing.
9. Unscrew the pressure pipe union bolt ...
10.… and remove the bolt together with the sealing washer.
11. Disconnect the discharge line with the sealing washer underneath from the pump. In this case, a small amount of working fluid may flow out from the pump pipeline.
12. Remove the sealing washer.
Take measures to prevent leakage of hydraulic fluid from the pipeline by plugging it, for example, with a wooden plug.
13. Using a syringe, drain the remaining working fluid from the power steering pump.
14. Remove the two bolts securing the pump to the engine bracket (the second bolt is located under the pump pulley) ...
15.… and remove the pump from the motor bracket.
16. Press out the retainer for the wiring harness block ...
17.… and disconnect the block from the power steering fluid pressure sensor.
18. Remove the two bolts securing the hydraulic booster supply circuit pipeline ...
20. Pry the O-ring with a screwdriver ...
21. ... and remove the ring from the power steering pump.
22. Remove the power steering fluid pressure sensor.
23. Plug the piping and pressure transducer ports to prevent dirt from entering the pump.
24. After fixing the pump in any way possible, unscrew the valve in the discharge pipeline.
25. Holding the pump pulley with a mounting blade from turning, unscrew the pulley fastening nut ...
26. ... and remove the power steering pump pulley.
27. Install the power steering pump in the reverse order of removal.
28. Install the accessory drive belt (see Replacing the accessory drive belt).
29.Fill the fluid in the power-assisted steering system and bleed the air from it (see Replacing the working fluid and bleeding the power-assisted steering system).

Putting it back together
Two years ago, General Motors left the Russian market, however, Chevrolet and other brands manufactured by this corporation continue to drive on Russian roads.
At first, their owners were seized by panic: where now to carry out maintenance of the car, including repairing the steering rack of the Aveo T250, and will GM's departure from Russia lead to a shortage of original auto parts?
Fortunately, there were no problems with either the first or the second: specialized service stations have not gone anywhere, and original spare parts for GM cars are almost always available at these stations. So on this score, the owners of Chevrolet and, in particular, one of the most popular Chevrolet Aveo T250 in Russia, need not worry.
During the existence of this car, and it began to be produced in 2003, its numerous owners have identified the weaknesses of the T250.
In general, this is a strong, reliable car, unpretentious in maintenance and repair. So, any of the gasoline engines with which this car is equipped can run up to 300 thousand km without overhaul. Of course, subject to careful care and timely passage of all MOT. As for the chassis of the car, their owners unanimously call the rear shock absorbers the weakest point of the T250. But the designers and manufacturers of the car can hardly be blamed for this. This car is not designed to carry heavy loads, while the Russians mainly use the Aveo as a "country" car, overloading its trunk and interior beyond measure. So you shouldn't be surprised at the periodic breakdowns of the rear shock absorbers.
The second item on the list of weaknesses is the steering rack of the Chevrolet Aveo T250. Many owners of this car complain that when the mileage is 40-80 thousand km, it starts knocking. But in most cases, the reason for the breakage of the rail is the same: overloading the car.
And do not complain about the too low resource of such a part as the Aveo T250 steering rack. With the development of a resource and wear of the rail parts, completely different symptoms arise. First of all, it is a backlash in the steering column. It is the total component of several backlashes at once: in the gear transmission between the rack and the control gear, between the rack and the tips, and wheel bearings. And if in the early stages it is still possible to somehow fight backlash - to tighten these connections, to make additional adjustment of the rail - then it is unlikely that it will be possible to adjust the seriously loosened mechanism. Here, a major overhaul of the steering rack of Aveto T250 is already required.
Also, the need to repair the rack can be caused by the ingress of sand or stones into its mechanism - the latter can even lead to a breakdown of the gear transmission. From here, by the way, there are extraneous sounds that arise in the area of the front axle of the car in the process of turning the steering wheel.
Another reason for the increased wear of the rack and pinion mechanism is “oil starvation”, caused either by a low level of oil in the car engine, or by its poor quality, or by leakage from under the oil seals of the rack casing.
Oil seals, be they rubber or plastic, deteriorate quickly enough. They tear, wear out and become covered with a network of small cracks under the influence of the environment. They are a consumable in a car, just like oil or brake fluid. Check their condition regularly, and change at the first sign of wear. Otherwise, a leaky oil seal will cause more serious damage and a complete repair of the Chevrolet Aveo steering rack will need to be done.
Do not forget to regularly inspect the power steering oil seals: their leakage threatens to damage this unit. Power steering fluid may start leaking from the unpressurized connection of the booster tubes. You can detect a leak by looking under the bottom of the car after it has been parked for a long time - if the power steering is leaking, a small puddle with a characteristic smell forms under the hood. Finding a specific leak is not so easy. Car service technicians have several professional tricks on this subject, but you cannot do without special equipment in diagnosing the power steering.
The process of diagnosing the element in question, namely the Chevrolet T250 steering rack, is even more complicated: to establish the type of breakdown and find the failed part, one visual inspection of this car unit in most cases is not enough. The rail is diagnosed by two specialists. While one master slowly turns the steering wheel from one extreme position to another, the second carefully monitors the uniformity of the rotation of the front wheels of the car and listens to the sounds coming from under the hood. The nature of these sounds and their localization will indicate the location of the breakdown. And which of the details became its cause, it will finally become clear only after the complete disassembly of the entire rack and pinion mechanism. To make this process more convenient, the rail is removed after driving the car onto a lift.
It also makes it possible to check at the same time the condition of the wheel bearings for the formation of backlash in them. Backlash is unpleasant and even dangerous, not only in itself.
First, it significantly reduces vehicle handling.
Secondly, and this is the main thing, having barely formed in one of the steering rack nodes, a barely noticeable backlash begins to creep throughout the entire mechanism, like a cancerous tumor, knocking out one part after another.
Timely detection of backlash and its elimination will save your car from more serious damage, and your wallet from additional costs, because repairing the Aveo T250 rail is not the cheapest "pleasure".
When repairing such an important mechanism for the controllability and safety of a car as the Chevrolet Aveo steering rack, the price of which is indicated on our website, it is necessary to use only "native" components. Doubtful spare parts may differ from the original ones with incorrect geometry, which will lead to the impossibility of precise adjustment of the mechanism. Either the quality of the steel from which they are made, and this will already lead to their rapid wear, so that the next breakage of the rail will not take long.
Steering failure on the go can add gray hair to even the most experienced driver. This can happen for various reasons, but the rule here is always the same: it must be repaired immediately. Today we will talk about repairing the power steering pump. Let's talk about how and why this node fails, and how to deal with it with our own hands.
The main task of the power steering (GUR) is to facilitate driving. In addition, the power steering compensates for shocks when driving on uneven roads and, most importantly, when the front wheel is punctured, the power steering reduces the likelihood of an accident. The main element of the power steering is a pump, which, like any other unit, can fail for the following reasons:
The power steering fluid level is lowered due to a leak in the pipeline or in the reservoir.
Foreign impurities have got into the power steering system.
The power steering fluid has not changed for a long time and has completely exhausted its resource.
Over time, layers have formed on the walls of the pipelines, which impede the circulation of the liquid, which leads to rapid overheating of the pump.
One or more air pockets have appeared in the piping system.
It is quite simple to identify problems with the pump. Here are the main signs to watch out for:
The driver requires significantly more effort to turn the steering wheel when driving at low speeds. Even more effort is required if the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling. But after overclocking, these problems disappear.
When you turn the steering wheel, a characteristic creak appears, which is clearly audible even in the cockpit.
The power steering bearing at idle begins to emit a thin whistle, which can disappear when accelerating.
When leaving the parking lot, spots of power steering fluid are visible on the asphalt, and characteristic streaks are visible on the pump and pipelines.
Here are the main problems that cannot be eliminated without disassembling the pump:
The power steering pump bearing failed, while the rest of the system was not damaged.
The tightness of the pump seals is broken and they need to be replaced.
The gasket under the rear pump casing is worn out.
Open-end wrench set.
A set of socket heads with a knob.
Retaining ring puller.
Flat blade screwdriver.
A set of new gaskets.
New oil seals.
New bearing for the power steering pump.
Medical syringe (large).
Empty container for draining fluid from the power steering tank.
Rags.
Using open-end wrenches, the pump mounting bolts are loosened. Then the timing belt tensioner is unscrewed, after which the belt is removed.
The fluid from the power steering tank is pumped out with a syringe and drained into a previously prepared container. When the reservoir is empty, the steering wheel is turned left and right several times. As a result, the remaining liquid is squeezed out into the tank and pumped out with a syringe. The liquid is pumped out with a medical syringe
The clamp, with which the system hose is attached to the expansion tank, is loosened with a flat screwdriver, after which the hose is removed by hand. The hose is removed manually after loosening the clamp
Next, the high pressure hose is disconnected. It is held in place by a bolt, which is unscrewed with a 10 open-end wrench. The hose is removed.
Next, the pump mounting brackets are unscrewed, it is removed and thoroughly cleaned of dirt and oil drips. This is done with a rag. Previously removed hoses and fasteners
A puller is used to remove the bearing circlip.
After removing the ring, the bolts holding the back cover of the pump are unscrewed. After removing 4 bolts, the cover is gently pry off with a flat screwdriver and removed. Access to the pump rotor is opened. It is easy to remove the cover by prying it with a screwdriver
The rotor is removed, the blades are removed from it. They are stacked on a sheet of paper, each blade is assigned a number. This avoids confusion when reassembling.
Access to the pump shaft is opened. It is knocked out together with the bearing using a screwdriver handle. It is convenient to remove the shaft by knocking on it with a screwdriver
The old bearing is removed from the shaft and replaced with a new one. The shaft is placed in place. To remove it, it is better to use a special puller
All worn out oil seals and a gasket under the rear cover are also replaced, after which the pump is reassembled and installed in its original place.
Video (click to play).
As you can see, the repair of the power steering pump is not particularly difficult. It is easy to get to it, and to disassemble it too. There is only one important point: you need to take out the rotor very carefully in order to prevent the blades from falling out (on most cars, they are not secured by anything). The blades must be removed from the rotor one at a time, and when reassembling, put them where they were. Confusion is categorically unacceptable.
