The VAZ 2108 car appeared on the roads of our country at the end of the 80s of the 20th century. For the angular shape of the body, the car received the popular nickname "chisel". Despite this, this car brand was extremely popular until the end of the last century.

The vast majority of "eights" were released from the assembly line with atmospheric gasoline carburetor engines. The manufacturing plant most often equipped the VAZ 2108 carburetor with fuel supply systems with installed two-chamber devices of the DAAZ 21083 "Solex" brand.

Malfunctions of the DAAZ 21083 Solex carburetor most often occur due to the use of low-quality fuel with a low octane number and a high content of metal additives. Dirty gasoline clogs up the jets, and the car starts to freak out. The most common symptom of a clogged carburetor is dips - interruptions in the operation of the engine in various modes.

Troubleshooting a VAZ 21083 carburetor usually comes down to cleaning and adjusting it. Small repairs to this important device can be done by hand and without dismantling.

The Solex carburetor includes such components.

As can be seen from the presented diagram, the device of the DAAZ 21083 carburetor is quite simple. The unit has a mechanical drive for opening the throttle valve 2 chambers, which compares favorably with OZON carburetors.

The VAZ 2108 carburetor has a branch pipe for draining excess gasoline into the fuel tank. Thanks to this, an electric petrol pump can be installed in the power supply system of this vehicle.

Many car enthusiasts think that if the car does not start, then, of course, the clogged carburetor is to blame. However, this seemingly indisputable statement is very far from the truth. Most often, the car does not start due to faults in the electrical wiring in general and the ignition system in particular. If there is a spark, the starter turns the crankshaft, but the engine stubbornly does not want to work, most likely the gas pump is faulty or the fuel lines are clogged with air or dirt plugs. In this case, you should not immediately sin on the carburetor. If this unit is really faulty, the following symptoms will indicate a problem:

  • too low number of crankshaft revolutions when the engine is in neutral - the engine seems to be about to stall;
  • in all gears, the engine stalls as soon as you release the gas pedal;
  • too high gasoline consumption: more than 12 liters per 100 km of run in city driving in winter and more than 9 liters when traveling in summer;
  • unexpected interruptions in the operation of the power unit: the number of revolutions of the crankshaft when you press the accelerator pedal suddenly decreases almost to a complete stop of the engine for 2-10 seconds, and then sharply rises again to the required value.

All of the above symptoms indicate that the repair of the VAZ Sputnik-Samara carburetor is necessary. Most often, the malfunction of this important device is associated with the suction of excess air through leaking connections and fuel lines. In second place are contaminated jets. Less commonly, ruptured diaphragms, springs and levers are the cause of breakage.

Air leakage can be eliminated only by replacing old fuel hoses, coupled with careful sealing of the connections. Cleaning the carburetor VAZ 21083 is carried out without dismantling the unit. List of required tools and cleaning agents:

  • key for 10;
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • minus screwdriver;
  • syringe;
  • 200 ml of acetone;
  • aerosol can for cleaning the carburetor;
  • repair kit.

  1. We remove the air filter together with the filter element.
  2. We start the engine.
  3. We spray with aerosol into all visible holes of the carburetor and at the same time constantly gas.
  4. After the visible traces of dirt have been removed, we pull out the suction so that the number of revolutions of the crankshaft is kept in the range of 2500-3000.
  5. We unscrew the solenoid valve and spray into the resulting hole with spray, gas and blow the hole with a pump or compressor.
  6. After that, we turn off the engine and turn on the valve.
  7. Next, remove the carburetor cover by unscrewing a few screws.
  8. With the help of a syringe, we remove all gasoline from the float chambers.
  9. Pour acetone into the chambers and leave for half an hour.
  10. We unscrew all the jets, having previously remembered where they were located, and send them to the remaining acetone.
  11. After half an hour, we remove acetone from the chambers with a syringe and wipe off the undissolved dirt with a minus screwdriver wrapped in a cloth.
  12. We take out the jets from the solvent and purge them with a pump, then screw them into their original places.
  13. Disconnect the fuel supply hose, remove the plug, O-ring and take out the fuel filter. We replace it. Then we screw everything back.
  14. Pour 3 cm of gasoline into the float chamber, put on the carburetor cover and start the car again.

After cleaning the carburetor, the engine should stop stalling without gassing. If there are still dips in the operation of the power unit, the parts of the accelerator pump should be replaced.

  1. We carry out the operations described above in paragraphs 1-12.
  2. Using a minus screwdriver, we take out the spray of the accelerator pump.
  3. Pour gasoline into the float chamber and turn the DZ 1 camera lever. If a strong jet hits from the hole where the spray gun was, then we only change it.
  4. If the trickle is weak, remove the cover of the accelerator pump and change all the insides.
  5. We collect the unit.
