The operation of each automobile engine depends on the quantity and quality of the air-fuel mixture prepared by a special device called a carburetor. All carburetor systems create a mixture and help distribute it evenly throughout the cylinders. There are different ways to mix fuel with the air stream. For example, there are membrane-needle carburetors, and there are float ones. This is the type of carburetor of the VAZ family, produced by the Dimitrovograd Automobile Unit Plant (DAAZ).

Adjusting the VAZ 2107 carburetor is an important way to keep the engine in working order.

Before adjusting the carburetor, you need to know what type of carburetor is installed on the car. To do this, you need to remember that:

  • If you have a vacuum ignition corrector, this means that you have the latest type of engine VAZ 2103 or 2106 installed, and the modification of the carburetor 2107 is 1107010-20.

  • If a six-speed engine is installed on your "seven", but there is no installed vacuum corrector, then you have a modification of the carburetor 2107-1107010-10.

In order to adjust the carburetor, you need to know the main symptoms of its malfunction. Since the carburetor is responsible for the acceleration dynamics of the car, these include the following:

  • difficulty starting the engine, long "sneezing";
  • all kinds of "jerks", "jerks", "dips" when pressing the gas pedal;
  • sluggish ability of the car to accelerate;
  • an unexplained increase in gas mileage.

So, if your car has corresponding "complaints", we proceed to its adjustment.

Attention! The most competent way is to make the adjustment on the removed carburetor. Adjusting the VAZ 2107 carburetor does not involve the use of fleecy and woolen fabrics, as well as various wires for cleaning the nozzles.

How to adjust the carburetor on your own on a VAZ 2107? When removing the carburetor cover, the float system is first adjusted, so convenient.

The float free play varies between the following values: 6.5 mm on one side and 14 on the other. This can be adjusted with a test template by placing the camera upright. In this case, the float touches slightly, but does not press on the valve ball.

In the event that the distance is less than 6.5 mm, then you need to slightly bend the tongue of the valve (needle), which is shown in the figure with the letter "A".

After that, we adjust the degree of opening of the needle valve, which passes gasoline into the float chamber. When the float rises, the flow of fuel decreases, when the gas pedal is pressed sharply and the throttle valve is opened, the fuel consumption increases and the float is lowered.

Now we adjust the deflection of the float to the other side. To do this, we remove it from the lid as much as possible and check it with a template, the thickness of which is 14 mm with a certain tolerance.

If the distance does not match, you need to bend the stop of the float mounting bracket and make it no more than 14 mm.

Now, after adjustment, the float free play is about 8 mm. Adjusting the VAZ 2107 carburetor also provides for checking the incoming grids and fuel filters to maintain a full fuel flow.

Setting up a VAZ 2107 carburetor with your own hands necessarily includes adjusting the starting device. Recall that it serves to confidently start a cold engine.For this, the mixture is twice, three times more saturated with fuel than with a normal hot engine power supply.

The starting device for carburetors of the 1107010 family operates at a frequency of 1500 rpm, that is, at the manufacturer's recommended cold start frequency.

If you look at the carburetor from the side, you can clearly see the channel through which the vacuum is supplied from the space behind the throttle behind the diaphragm of the damper opener:

We explain the mechanism of action of the starting device. Pulling out the "suction", the driver, as it were, brings the starting device into the cocked state. Wherein:

  • The three-arm lever is "cocked" with a cable counterclockwise;
  • Carries away telescopic pull;
  • The thrust, in turn, rotates the choke through the lever.
  • The second arm of the lever presses on the axis of the throttle valve 1 of the chamber.
  • The air flow damper is now completely closed, the throttle damper of 1 chamber is slightly open for starting, creating a starting gap

When adjusting the starting device with your own hands, you first need to remove the carburetor. Then:

We turn the choke lever so that it closes. The device is now cocked.

Now you need to turn the carburetor over, measure the gap between the edge of the throttle valve (1 chamber) and its wall. For "seven" carburetors, this gap is 0.85-0.9 mm. The gap can be measured with a feeler gauge wire:

To bring it into this range, the drive rod on the throttle valve is bent.

After that we set the gap "A". It is located between the duct wall and the edge of the air damper at the bottom. To do this, close the flap again, “cock” the device. To create an imitation of air rarefaction, we recessed the trigger rod:

Now the rod has pulled the rod along the slot, and as a result, the damper opens. Gap "A" is 5-5.4 mm.

To adjust this gap, you need to turn the adjustment screw with a screwdriver, only first removing the screw plug from it:

How to set idle speed on a VAZ 2107

First you need to make sure that the ignition system is correctly configured, all wires are in good condition and the engine is fully warmed up.

  • We tighten the mixture "quality" screw to maximum speed (counterclockwise), while the mixture is enriched with fuel;

  • Rotating the “amount” counterclockwise, we set an even higher frequency on our own.

  • We carry out a "quality" check: is it possible to add more momentum.

The point of this operation is to wrap up the "quality" at a constant "quantity" up to 850-900 rpm.

You can evaluate the revolutions by an electronic tachometer, with skill - by ear, or by the tachometer of the dashboard.

The next step is regulation of the air damper drive.

If the position of the drive is ignored, the machine may stall. This requires a simple slotted screwdriver and a 7 mm open-end wrench.

The figure shows the position of the damper with recessed and extended "suction".

To adjust, do the following:

  • "Suction" is recessed;
  • We unscrew the thrust fixing screw with a slotted screwdriver (the spring pushes it vertically)
  • We tighten the screw;
  • Checking the damper stroke.

We adjust the throttle valve drive ("gas").

If this drive is incorrectly set, then the acceleration dynamics and throttle response of the engine deteriorate. This setup must be done with an assistant.

You will need an open-end wrench for 8, a screwdriver, a flashlight and a vernier caliper.

We will completely "drown" the "suction", or the air damper drive.

To adjust with a caliper, measure the length of the rod, it should be exactly 8 cm. By rotating the tips, we "adjust" the length of the rod to this size by unscrewing the "locking" nuts.

After that, we put the thrust in place and repeat the check. Modern rods are often made of very poor plastic, which shrinks. Therefore, after a week or two, check the "running-in" of the thrust.
