DIY repair of karizma

In detail: DIY repair of karizma from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

One day the bulb in the Fog Lamp burned out. Deciding that it was a simple matter - to replace the light bulb ... pfffff ... set to work. But disassembling the headlight housing, water poured out of there: (How did it get there I don’t know how (where the glass is - everything is sealed, in general HZ)

There is a reflector with a lens inside the case, i.e. it turns out that the body has glass and the reflector with the lens also has. Because of the water, the reflector is half rusted, the lens is all dirty and cloudy! As a result, there is very little light from such a PTF.

I think we need to change the PTF itself, BUT. I really did NOT want to get rid of the case, tk. it stands in regular places VERY gorgeous without any bells and whistles. I started looking for round PTFs. And without fanaticism ... because. you could of course order Hella Micro DE and put them, but they cost 2500 apiece, and I don't use fog lights at all. It was decided to buy foglights from the Gazelle. I don’t remember exactly which one. They look quite ... in my opinion!

I pulled out a reflector with a lens from the body. Then the process of creativity and trying on new details began!

Along the way, one unpleasant (and maybe pleasant) little thing turned out! If you put a new PTF in the body of the old one with glass on the body, then it simply will not close, because the new PTF is longer than the old reflector.

It was decided to dismantle the glass! Moreover, the new PTF also has it. And in my opinion, 2 glasses will only worsen the luminous flux (correct if I'm wrong).

The glass was removed from the patient's body by heating with a hair dryer!

Immediately I apologize if it turned out sloppy or ugly, but this is my hand made))))) I ask you to love and favor.
With the second PTF did exactly the same, according to the proven scheme ...
The result is obvious.

Video (click to play).

New PTFs are already sealed by themselves, which is actually a plus! I collected everything and installed it on the car ...

Sorry for the dirty bumper, I returned from the rest! And there are many Doh mosquitoes on the track.

The result was very, very happy! The light became very bright. Now they even shine brighter than the neighbor and are approximately on a level with him. But you can adjust up and down. Because hold the PTF in the case on 2 bolts without the bracket, which was in the photo above. By the way, in the main headlights, too, it would not hurt to slide and clean ... but that's a completely different story!
Thank you for your attention. Good luck on the road!

Mitsubishi Carisma is a front wheel drive car of the middle class. There are body versions: a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. The model has a discreet but solid design. The interior is designed in a modern style using high quality materials and has smooth soft shapes.

For a car of this class, the interior is very spacious. The driver's seat is adjustable in length, backrest angle, cushion height and inclination. Disc brakes on all wheels, equipped with ABS. The car is equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters and a power of 90 hp.

A direct injection gasoline engine for the Carisma is expected soon.

Karisma has been produced at the Dutch NedCar plant in the city of Born since 1995 (on the same assembly line as the Volvo S40 / V40). Despite the fact that many auto publications call Karisma a long-liver of the market, the history of the car is very modest. Just as the variety of models is not rich. Following the proprietary MMC classification (6-9 VIN symbols), there are only 5 “types” of Karism: DA2A - 1.8 (including GDI engines) DA4A - 1.9 TDI (turbodiesel) DA5A - 1900 DIESEL (EURO3)

All these modifications have two body types - a sedan and a hatchback DA6A - 1.3 Eco (sedan only) For comparison (until 1997), the Colt / Lancer has 44 models, and the Galant - 25, but the truth is "these guys" are produced much longer. But the number of modifications within the lineup is amazing (this also applies to the "relative" Space Star). No other Mitsubishi had a similar set of option codes, equipment options and continuous design changes.

Obviously, this is due to the fact that MMC really wanted to promote Karisma in Europe (alas, it worked only in Russia. Karisma 1.6 has 3505 modifications, 1.8 - 4308! For comparison, Galant 2.0 - 340, 2.5 - 278, Lancer 1.3 - 281, Space Car 2.0 - 45 Among the achievements of Karisma, the honorable 5th place in the ADAC reliability rating in 2002 among middle class cars can be noted (the figure shows the number of breakdowns per thousand cars).

It should be noted that the current reliability of Karizma leaves much to be desired - in the German TUV system for 2003, the car ranks 94th (out of 110) for new cars (7.7 breakdowns per thousand cars, however, among all classes of cars). Karisma during its existence had 2 restyling, which are described below (for technical changes, see the section "Specifications"). Actually, this can put an end to its history, since since 2004 it has been discontinued. Comparative costs of warranty service.
