A Korean with a sonorous Italian name and Ukrainian registration - such is the “pedigree” of the Kia Cerato model (read “Cherato”), which has been assembled since the end of 2005 in our country, at the Lutsk Automobile Plant, using the large-knot method. Moreover, almost all officially sold Cerato are of Ukrainian assembly.

The bodies of this model are characterized by moderate corrosion resistance. The places most susceptible to the "red" disease are the hood, the paintwork of which suffers from the "bombardment" of stones, and the trunk lid of the versions with a standard wing.
The interior of the Cerato is quite attractive and well-dressed - most of the cars use light-colored materials in the interior trim. But in the process of operation, such a casing easily gets dirty. During the operation of the Cerato, problems were noted with its central locking - it can spontaneously close the doors. This malfunction is eliminated by replacing one of the two front control locks.
The immobilizer control unit also creates problems - sometimes it fails and does not recognize the chip built into the ignition key. As a result, the engine does not start. The driver himself will be able to determine the occurrence of this problem by the red signal lamp on the instrument panel (car symbol), which in this case does not light up.
And this car also has trouble with the standard speakers - they often have a diffuser coming off, and the speakers are characteristically wheezing. However, the owner can solve this problem on his own by carefully gluing the diffuser.
As domestic operating experience has shown, there are no serious problems in Cerato motors. And typical problems are minor, and it won't take a lot of money to fix them.
In Ukraine, Cerato was sold with one of three power units: two petrol 1.6 and 2.0 liters and one 1.6 liter turbodiesel. The most common are the most affordable 1.6-liter modifications, 2.0-liter modifications are slightly less popular, and turbodiesels are much less common.
Cerato motors have no serious problems. Of the typical ones, we note the possible loss of tightness of the hoses of the cooling system. The tube of the cabin air conditioning system was often bent under the cooling fan housing, due to which, over time, the tube frays and the system depressurizes. Cars manufactured in 2006 featured unreliable individual ignition coils, which often failed. All other machines have no problems with these nodes. As, however, with the proprietary CVVT variable valve timing system, thanks to which the engines are distinguished by good traction in a wide rpm range.
The timing belt of both 1.6 liter units is equipped with a metal chain, which serves the entire life of the motor. The 2.0-liter engine uses a toothed belt, which is changed along with the tension and idler rollers every 60 thousand km. For the same mileage, a new attachment belt must be installed.
The cylinder heads (cylinder head) of gasoline engines are equipped with shims. However, according to operating experience, it is rarely necessary to adjust the thermal clearances of the valves - up to 300-350 thousand km.And in the timing belt of turbodiesels, hydraulic lifters are used.
For reliable operation of the fuel system, it is recommended to clean the fuel injectors and the idle valve every 30 thousand km.
There are no complaints about the turbodiesel units either - no characteristic problems have been identified in them.

Such a resource, according to the employees of the corporate service, has silent blocks of the front levers and ball bearings, as well as "rubber bands" of the rear "multi-link". Most often - after 30 thousand km - you will need to replace the bushings and anti-roll bar struts. Another plus in the content - most of the "consumables" of the front and rear suspension are changed separately. The exception is the rear bearings, which are supplied with the hub (spare part - about UAH 1.5 thousand). These bearings will last about 100 thousand km.
Rack and pinion steering of all vehicles is equipped with a hydraulic booster. This unit is reliable - even the fastest wear tips can last up to 100 thousand km, and steering rods - even longer. The only weak point is the high pressure hose, which loses its tightness in the rolling places. Such a malfunction was noted in cars with a mileage of more than 50 thousand km.
The braking system, equipped with disc mechanisms of the front and rear wheels, is quite effective. During operation, attention should be paid to the caliper guides. When replacing the pads, it is recommended to lubricate them, otherwise they begin to knock unpleasantly. The ABS system is quite reliable in operation.
In terms of trunk volume, the Cerato sedan is inferior to its competitors - 405 liters for the Chevrolet Lacetti with the same body type and 460 for the Nissan Almera Classic. The hood was severely damaged from the impact of stones, and rust pockets appeared in the places of the chips. I had to fix them myself by touching up. But in general I'm happy with the machine and I'm not going to sell it.
