If the lift mechanism in the chair needs repair, but all other parts are in order, do not rush to throw it away. Fix it! You can replace the gas lift yourself. Unfortunately, even without breakdowns, this part wears out sooner or later.
The process of replacing this mechanism can be called two-part:

The fastening screws may have come loose. Twist them up.If it does not help, unscrew it completely, apply glue (both PVA and Moment will do) on the thread and screw in. Let the glue harden before you sit down on the chair again.
The insert seam between the plate and the bushing, which is put on the gas lift, has burst. The seam can be sealed. It is important to remove the gas lift first.
This is probably the most annoying breakdown. If the back of the chair is not fixed, then the permanent contact, which regulates the connection of the back and the seat, is faulty.
The permanent is a non-separable part, so the part should be removed (it's easy, you just need to unscrew four bolts) and replace.
Even a cosmetic defect such as worn upholstery can be corrected by purchasing fabric from a store and using a furniture stapler.
These are just the most basic breakdowns of office chairs. Yes, in-house repairs still have to pay for new parts. But such repairs will cost several times less than buying a new chair. Not all elements can be repaired, and in many cases, you cannot do without the help of a specialist.
