We remove the terminal from the battery, de-energize the car.
Dismantle the engine protection cover by unscrewing the two mounting bolts and nuts.
Disconnect the front and rear power cable connectors from the engine control unit.
We dismantle the engine control unit, which is attached to the bracket with four nuts.
Remove the relay and fuse box assembly, which is secured with three bolts.
We take out the storage battery.
Disconnect the electrical cables of the ignition coil.

We unscrew two fastening nuts from the studs that fix the starter on the power plant, and remove the starter.
Disconnect the front wheel drives.
We pump out the working fluid from the clutch hydraulics section of the master brake cylinder reservoir.
Unscrew the clutch hydraulic hose fitting.
Disconnect the two shift lever cables.
Remove the front suspension subframe.
We install stable wooden stops under the crankcase of the power plant and the gearbox housing.
From below, unscrew the two nuts securing the box to the subframe, take out the bolts upward, and three bolts securing the box to the rear support bracket.
We remove the motor suspension support.

We unscrew the fastening bolts of the gearbox housing. We start with the top two bolts, then move on to the bottom two left ones, the bolt next to the oil filter, and the four engine mounting bolts.
The box is free, you can remove it. To do this, we take it back as far as possible, thereby disengaging the input shaft and the clutch disc, remove the support, and lower the assembly down.
To avoid deformation of the clutch diaphragm spring, the extraction process is carried out carefully without hitting the input shaft.
This algorithm is given for models equipped with a manual gearbox. The difference between dismantling the machine lies in the design features of the gear shift control drive, the sequence of these operations does not change. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, while the splines of the input shaft are lubricated with a grease, refractory grease.
Please note that due to the significant weight of the unit, the installation and dismantling of the Chevrolet Cruze gearbox must be carried out in compliance with safety rules, with serviceable tools and with an assistant.
You will need: keys "for 10", "for 13", "for 19", "for 24", a set of hex keys, flat-blade screwdrivers (two), round-nose pliers, circlip remover, bearing remover, hammer, barbs, chisel.

16. Remove the 5th gear synchronizer retaining ring.

34. Remove the ten bolts securing the lower transmission cover.
36. Separate the gasket from the cover.

37. Mark the position of the differential bearing adjusting nut in relation to the transmission case.
38. Remove the adjusting nut retainer bolt.

42. Remove the O-ring from the nut.
Replace a heavily crimped, hardened or frayed ring.
43. Press out the axle shaft oil seal from the nut.
44. If it is necessary to replace the differential bearings, turn the adjusting nut over, place a pair of wooden blocks and press out the outer ring of the differential bearing from the nut.
45. Remove the five bolts securing the right differential bearing cover.
46.. and remove the cover. Remove the O-ring from it, press out the oil seal from the cover and, if necessary, the outer ring of the bearing in the same way as they were pressed out of the adjusting nut.
47. Remove the differential assembly from the transmission case.
48. Remove the magnet from the crankcase.
49.. and clean it from debris.
50. Remove the spacer washer from the intermediate reverse gear axle.
The spacer washer of the reverse idler gear may remain in the gearbox housing when the gearbox housing and the intermediate housing are separated. Remove it from the transmission housing.
51.Remove the two pawl bracket mounting bolts.
52.. set the rods of the forks in sequence in positions II, V and III gears and remove the bracket assembly with the pawl.
53. Use a hammer through a chisel with a blunt sting to knock out the plugs of the gear shift fork retainers.
54.. and remove the clips.
Note: Please note that one of the clips is different from the other two. After pressing its plugs, remove the spring and the rod retainer from the gearbox housing seat.
55. Remove the two screws securing the retaining pin.
57.. and remove the pin from the bracket.
58. Leaning the free end of the rod on a wooden block, knock out the pin securing the fork for engaging the intermediate reverse gear with a beard.

65. Use a puller for the inner circlips to squeeze the pinion shaft bearing circlip.

67. Knock out the pin of fastening of the forks of switching of the 1st and 2nd gears.
68.. pull out the stem and remove the plug.
69. Use a puller for outer circlips to spread the circlip of the input shaft bearing.
70. and remove the input and output shafts by removing their shanks from the intermediate casing.
71. Remove the intermediate reverse gear.
72. Using a puller, remove the input shaft bearing retaining ring from the intermediate casing groove.
73. Before inspection and troubleshooting, thoroughly wash and dry the gearbox parts.
74. Inspect the transmission case, intermediate case and rear cover. They should not be chipped. There should be no nicks, marks, dents, etc. on the mating surfaces. Remove minor damage with fine-grained emery paper. Replace defective parts if severely damaged.
75. Check the bearing seats. These surfaces should not show signs of wear or damage. If damaged, replace the crankcases.
76. Check the condition of the gear engagement rods. If they are bent or there are seizures, burrs, or dents on the stems for the retainers, replace the stems.
77. Check the condition of the gear shift forks. If they are bent or the tabs are worn out, replace these parts.
78. If oil leaks through the oil seals are detected during operation and when their working edges are worn, the oil seals must be replaced.
79. Check the condition of the bearings. If cavities are found on the treadmills and rolling elements, traces of indentation of the rolling elements on the treadmills, or if the cages are damaged, the bearings must be replaced.
80. Replace the gaskets of the intermediate case, the rear cover of the transmission and the gearshift mechanism.
81. Clean the magnet from wear particles. If the magnet appears cracked or its magnetic properties are weakened, replace the magnet.
Assemble the gearbox in the reverse order of disassembly, taking into account the following.
1. Before assembly, liberally lubricate all rubbing parts with gear oil.
2. Assemble all threaded connections using an anaerobic thread lock.
3. Clean the mating surfaces from dirt and remnants of old gaskets or sealant.
4. Before installing the output shaft in the intermediate crankcase, squeeze the retaining ring with round-nose pliers and secure with a wire in a compressed state. Remove the wire after installing the shaft in the crankcase, making sure that the ring fits into the grooves of the crankcase without distortions.
5.When installing the differential, if its bearings have not been changed, turn the adjusting nut of its bearings by the same number of revolutions as when unscrewing it, until the marks applied during disassembly are aligned.
6. If you changed the bearings of the differential, after installing it, adjust the preload of the bearings according to the value of the moment of resistance to rotation of the bearings by tightening or unscrewing the adjusting nut. For new bearings, the moment of resistance should be 2 N m (0.2 kgf m) when the driven gear of the main gear rotates at a speed of 1 rev / s. If the bearings have not been changed, then the moment of resistance should be 1 Nm (0.1 kgfm).
7. Before installing the lower transmission cover, lubricate the gasket with grease.
Chevrolet Cruze. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION OF MANUAL GEARBOX - PART 1
The main malfunctions, for the elimination of which it is necessary to remove the manual transmission from the car:

The work on removing and installing the gearbox is very time consuming, so be sure to first make sure that its malfunctions are not caused by other reasons (insufficient oil level, defects in the clutch drive, loosening of the gearbox fastening, etc.).
The gearbox is quite heavy, and its shape is not comfortable to hold, therefore we recommend that you remove the gearbox with an assistant.

A five-speed manual (D16 models) or six-speed automatic (6T30 / 6T40 / 6T45 models) gearbox is installed on Chevrolet Cruze cars.
The manual transmission (Fig. 11, 12) is made according to a two-shaft scheme with five synchronized forward gears and one unsynchronized reverse gear.
The manual transmission and main gear with differential have a common housing, and in addition the gearbox has an additional intermediate housing and a cover. The input shaft is pressed into the gear block and connected to it by splines.

The forward gear pairs are in constant mesh. Gear wheels of I V gears in neutral position rotate freely on the output shaft.
Forward gears are activated by axial movement of the respective synchronizer couplings mounted on the output shaft. Reverse gear is activated by moving the reverse idler gear along its axis.
The gearshift mechanism is located in a cover mounted on top of the gearbox housing.

The main gear (Fig. 13) is made in the form of a pair of cylindrical gears, selected for noise. Torque is transmitted from the driven pinion of the final drive to the differential and then to the front wheel drives.

The differential is conical, two-satellite. The tightness of the connection of the inner hinges of the front wheel drives with the differential gears is ensured by oil seals 3 (see Fig. 11), 13 (see Fig. 13) and 36.
Oil change in the Chevrolet Cruze gearbox
Check the oil level in the manual transmission from time to time (but at least every 15,000 km). The design of the box does not provide for oil changes during the entire service life of the vehicle. However, sometimes the need to change the oil may arise, for example, when switching to oil of a different viscosity, during repairs, etc.
Fill the manual gearbox with SAE 80W GL-4 GM1940182 or SAE 75W-90 oil. The manufacturer recommends replacing the oil filled at the factory with SAE 75W gear oil if the vehicle is operated for a long time at an ambient temperature below -30 ° C.
Loosen the oil level plug located on the side of the crankcase and remove the plug. Place a container under the opening as excess oil may leak out.
Check the oil level. It should be at the edge of the hole or just below it (you can reach the surface of the oil with a screwdriver or finger).
If the oil level is too low, loosen and remove the oil filler plug located on the top of the shift housing.
The oil filler plug also acts as a breather. Therefore, check the cleanliness of the holes in it.
Pour oil with a syringe into the hole in the gear shift housing until it emerges from the control hole.
Install the inspection plug. Install the oil filler plug.
The oil drain plug is not provided in the design, therefore, if it is necessary to change the oil, place a container under the gearbox to drain the oil, unscrew the bolts of the lower cover and drain the oil. Remove the cover.
Remove the gasket from the cover and wipe the cover with a clean cloth to remove any residual oil. Replace the gasket with a new one each time the bottom cover is removed.
Install the bottom cover and fill with oil in the same way as when checking the oil level and adding oil.
Replacing the drive oil seals
Internal CV joint oil seals can be replaced without removing the gearbox from the vehicle.
The procedure for replacing the internal CV joint seals of a mechanical and automatic transmission is the same and is shown using the example of a manual transmission.
Place the vehicle on a viewing ditch or lift.
To replace the oil seal of the internal constant velocity joint, remove the wheel drive from the side of the oil seal being replaced.
Remove the oil seal with a screwdriver.
Lubricate the working edge of the oil seal with transmission grease and press it in with a mandrel of a suitable diameter with the working edge inside the box.
Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
Check the level and, if necessary, add oil to the manual transmission (or working fluid in the automatic transmission).

Removal and installation of a manual transmission:
Remove the decorative engine cover.
Remove the electronic engine control unit.
Remove the fuse and relay mounting block.
Remove the battery.
Disconnect the harness connector from the ignition coil leads.
Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor and oxygen concentration sensor harness pads. Remove the pads from the bracket on the gearbox by squeezing the tendrils of their holders.
Squeezing the fastening latches, disconnect the wiring harness pads from the speed sensor and reversing light switch.
Drain the coolant.
Squeeze the antennae of the clamp of the heater radiator outlet hose to the distribution pipe, slide the clamp along the hose and disconnect the hose from the pipe.
Squeeze the tendrils of the clamp that secures the outlet hose of the radiator of the cooling system to the distribution pipe, slide the clamp along the hose and disconnect the hose from the pipe.
The radiator hoses of the cooling system must be disconnected from the water distribution pipe to gain access to the upper mounting bolts.
Remove the starter. Move aside the harness located on the left side of the engine compartment so that it does not interfere with further work.
Remove the front wheel drives.
Remove the cap of the reservoir of the master brake cylinder and pump out the brake fluid from the section of the reservoir of the master brake cylinder, which feeds the hydraulic clutch release.
Pull the retainer out of the hose adapter and remove the adapter from the clutch intermediate tube tip.
Remove the shift cable end from the shift lever shaft.
Remove the end of the cable sheath from the bracket slot on the box.
Move the shift cable to the side. Disconnect in the same way.
Remove the front suspension subframe. Place support under the engine oil sump and under the gearbox.
Unscrew the two nuts of the bolts securing the support to the front suspension subframe and remove the bolts up.
Remove the three bolts securing the rear support bracket to the crankcase.
Remove the power unit suspension support assembly with the bracket forward and to the right in the direction of travel of the vehicle.
Remove the rear bolt and two front bolts securing the left power unit suspension support bracket.
Remove the bolt securing the left power unit suspension support bracket to the support cushion and remove the bracket.
Remove the three bolts securing the front suspension support of the power unit and remove the support.
Remove the two bolts at the top of the crankcase, the two bolts at the bottom and left, the bolt near the oil filter, and the four bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.
Move the gearbox back as far as possible (the input shaft should come out of engagement with the hub of the clutch disc), remove the support from under it and remove the gearbox from the car.
Install the unit and all removed parts and assemblies in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the gearbox, we recommend lubricating the input shaft splines with a thin layer of refractory grease.
Check with a special mandrel how the clutch disc is centered. Before attaching the front wheel drives to the transmission, replace the circlips on the splined shanks of the inner pivots with new circlips. Otherwise, it is possible to disconnect the drives from the gearbox while driving.
