Plain paper wallpapers are not suitable for the kitchen, but vinyl, fiberglass, liquid or compressed paper-based wallpapers are widely used in such rooms. Due to the variety of textures and colors, these wallpapers can decorate the most ordinary-looking room, fill it with colors and a cozy atmosphere.
In the process of decorating the walls, you will need:
starting and finishing putty;
putty knife;
paint brush and roller;
primer;
sandpaper;
wallpaper;
wallpaper glue;
clean rags;
scissors and a sharp knife.
In order for the wallpaper to hold as firmly as possible, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the surface of the walls: remove the old wallpaper, peel off the peeling paint and plaster, wash off the whitewash. If the walls are too uneven, the old finish is removed to the very base.
The cracks in the corners need to be sewn up in order to properly repair. After that, the walls are wiped with a damp cloth, removing dust.
The clean surface is treated with a deep penetration primer mixture, which will avoid the development of mold and other microorganisms under the finish layer. Knead the starting putty and first fill in noticeable grooves and small gaps. Deep slots are filled with cement mortar, after which they dry out with a putty. When the grooves are leveled, you can cover the entire surface of the kitchen wall with putty mortar.
The thickness of the putty layer should be within 1-2 cm, thicker layers, when dry, may crack and fall behind the base. When leveling, check the plane of the wall with a rule or a wooden long strip. When the putty is completely dry, the surface is sanded with sandpaper, and then checked again with the rule. If necessary, apply another layer of mortar to make the wall as flat as possible.

Next, the mixture is applied with a wide spatula to the walls and leveled, creating a certain texture. After drying, liquid wallpaper forms a seamless, durable surface that is resistant to washing and mechanical stress. If an area is accidentally damaged, it is easy to restore it by applying a small amount of the working mixture.
Decorative plaster is also great for the kitchen. It easily tolerates temperature fluctuations, high humidity, multiple cleaning from dirt. This material is very plastic, and therefore it can be given any shape and texture. An imitation of brick or masonry looks attractive on the kitchen walls, which will not be difficult to complete. Surface preparation is carried out in a standard manner, unless the leveling does not have to be done very carefully.
Water at room temperature is poured into a small container and dry plaster is poured. Using a construction mixer, the composition is mixed well and, if necessary, a coloring pigment is added. Leave the solution for 10 minutes, and then mix again until smooth.

You can apply the solution with an ordinary or notched trowel, textured roller, paint brush and even with your hands. The relief of the wall depends on the method of application, so you should think over the desired pattern in advance. You can apply the plaster in an even layer, and then use your fingers, a thin stick, or something else to squeeze out the patterns.
To create brickwork, you need a ruler and a pencil: on a wall covered with an even layer of mortar, horizontal solid lines are drawn under the ruler. At least 8 cm should remain between the lines. Next, vertical segments between the lines are pushed in a checkerboard pattern, as a result of which a neat brickwork appears. For masonry, lines are drawn arbitrarily, by hand, drawing stones of various sizes and shapes.

The patterns made with a notched trowel look original and unusual: for this, a solution is collected on the spatula and distributed over the surface with uniform circular movements.
