This stone apron goes well with Provence or country cuisine. This is a great solution for a Mediterranean or rustic setting. The owner of the property will make a guaranteed unique design. By creating seamless masonry, you can create a structure that looks like one piece. In addition, such elements add sophistication and nobility.

Decorative stone in the kitchen helps to visually expand the space. To create this effect, do horizontal styling. Preference should be given to a warm color palette. This creates a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. There is no need to finish the entire wall with stone, the cladding can be done partially. This method of decoration allows you to best emphasize the individuality of the interior.

Artificial stone in the kitchen is used for a kind of door frame. The original finishing of the opening allows you to completely transform the room. A stone arched vault emphasizes its contours.

Finishing allows you to express the idea of minimalism in the interior. If you abandon the door, you can make a unique arch, and the passage will turn out as if carved out of the rock.

Wall decoration with decorative stone goes well with wallpaper. This option is suitable both for the interior of the hallway and for decorating the walls in the kitchen space. Two types of stones are used for repairs: they are created from artificial concrete or gypsum.

Wallpaper and thin-layer decorative material in kitchen cladding.

The artificial gypsum stone is much easier to work with as the desired shape can be easily cut. However, the cost of concrete elements is almost 2 times less. For many, this factor is decisive in the process of choosing a finishing material.

A bright solution using artificial slate of different colors. In the photo there is an entrance hall and part of the kitchen.

  • The cost of repairs is less when compared with cladding with natural elements;
  • The appearance of the material is as close as possible to the natural texture;
  • The weight of artificial tiles is insignificant, so the walls do not experience significant stress. In addition, lightweight elements are easy enough to lay, creating a flat surface;
  • Due to its ecological composition, it can be used for interior decoration;
  • Fungus does not form on such a stone, since the decay process is not supported;
  • Easy maintenance during operation;
  • High strength indicators. This factor is important, because the kitchen and hallway are among the most visited parts of your home;
  • A large selection of shades will allow you to effectively combine the stone with wallpaper.
  • Price. Decorating with decorative material for a stone is not an economical option;
  • For many, the disadvantage is the cold surface of the elements;
  • The material is exposed to high temperatures, therefore, when choosing, it is important to take into account the purpose of the room and the operating conditions.

1. First, you should prepare the walls in the room, namely, clean the surface from the remains of plaster and wallpaper.
2. For repair work, you will need a household tool;
3. Before starting work, it is necessary to plan the lighting system and arrange the electrical wiring.
4. The surface is leveled with putty or gypsum plasterboard. Drywall is chosen if LED backlighting is planned - the gap between the sheets and the wall allows you to embed devices.

5. For installation use a special adhesive, a solution of putty or "liquid nails". The most popular option is gluing the tiles.
6. If necessary, the joints between the elements are filled with mortar.

Decorating the kitchen with decorative stone can be a great alternative to the usual wallpaper and ceramic tiles. Of course, a couple of stones will not add originality or comfort to the room, but more complex and large inserts (or even whole walls) made of this material will do the job.

If you decide to add variety and finish the kitchen with decorative stone, you will not be able to do without a design project. And you can take one of the following solutions as a basis:

  • revet all the walls in the kitchen with decorative stone - in this case, the design project will imitate the kitchen of a medieval castle and therefore it is imperative to include at least one niche in it (for example, representing a hearth in which to place a kitchen stove);
  • select only a certain area in the kitchen with decorative stone trim (for example, near a table with chairs or near a kitchen set);
  • to lay out a decorative stone only the kitchen "apron", balancing it with a couple of "strokes" from the stone on the nearby walls.

At the same time, designers impose a number of restrictions on finishing the kitchen with decorative stone:

  • The kitchen must be large enough (at least 10-12 square meters), otherwise the decorative stone will not decorate it, but simply clutter it up.
  • The use of decorative stone in the kitchen in the presence of a cheap kitchen set, which has a usual look, will "reduce the cost" of the interior of the room and will not give it a holistic look.
  • Decorative stone looks good with natural wood (and not with its imitation), as well as with forged products.
  • Do not forget that even warm shades of decorative stone when facing a large area will give the kitchen "coldness" and "inaccessibility".

It is not recommended to use natural (natural) decorative stone for the kitchen, since it is not only quite expensive, but also heavy. Therefore, for finishing the kitchen, you need to choose an artificial stone that imitates natural. It has less weight, is cheaper than its natural counterpart, but at the same time it completely duplicates all its characteristics: durability, resistance to water and temperature extremes, practicality, beautiful appearance, a variety of shapes and colors.

Caring for an artificial decorative stone is also not very difficult: just wipe it periodically and brush off the dust with a brush.

Having picked up a design project for your kitchen and having bought the required amount of stone, you can proceed to the next stage - prepare the tool and additional materials.

So, in order to decorate the kitchen with decorative stone to please you with a high-quality result, you will need:

  • building level;
  • glue (in the form of a dry mix or "liquid nails");
  • a spatula for applying glue to the wall;
  • grout - it is needed if you decide to leave a space - a "seam" between the individual tiles of the decorative stone;
  • A "syringe" or a cone made of polyethylene for grouting (make it by folding a polyethylene square with a cone and fastening its outer edge with a piece of tape so that it does not unfold, cut the tip of the cone along the width of the seam between the tiles);
  • primer;
  • roller and brush for applying a primer;
  • putty and tools for working with it (spatulas and "floats");
  • knife and pliers for cutting stone.

Let's start decorating the kitchen with decorative stone:

  • If wallpaper has been previously pasted on the walls of the kitchen or they have been painted, all this will have to be removed in order to get to the plaster.
  • Existing surface irregularities must be carefully putty.
  • When the putty is dry, use a roller to coat the walls with a primer.
  • Lay out a decorative stone on the floor, matching it in color and size exactly as it will be laid out on the wall in the future.
  • Apply glue (made from dry mix) to the wall or tiles ("liquid nails").
  • Place the stone tiles against the wall, check that they are horizontal and press down on them so that they fit more tightly. You should start laying out the decorative stone from the bottom corner of the surface to be faced.
  • Lay the stone from the bottom up, leaving seams between the individual elements if necessary (the width of the seam can be up to one centimeter - it depends on the size of the stone tiles and their thickness).
  • When the glue is dry (and you have laid out all the surfaces with a stone according to the design project), fill the joints between the stones with grout using a "syringe" or "cone".The grout can be squeezed out both flush with the stone and leaving a small depression, but the thickness of the grout layer should not be less than 5 mm.
  • Then smooth out the grout in the joints.

The finished kitchen decoration with decorative stone must be brushed with a stiff brush to give the material a more natural look, getting rid of particles of adhering mortar and dust along the way.
