This led to a positive outcome. The engine began to revolve vigorously, but did not want to start and drive as it should. I take off the carburetor, wash it in the ultrasonic bath and put it back in place. Now the motor runs like a clock and can be easily started with both an electric and a manual starter.

It just so happened that in our country the lion's share of ATVs is purchased in a two-seater version and with a powerful engine. Their younger brothers - also two-seaters with an engine, are easier to acquire faster. But they have their own advantages, and most importantly an affordable price. For those who plan to regularly go to the forest to pick mushrooms and berries, or to hunt fishing, this is a serious trump card. But a hard mud mixer, in my opinion, is not for this technique. The power of 40-45 flakes is quite enough to overcome real off-road conditions and therefore the tuning of ATVs of these models is not much different from their older brothers. In our review we will show tuning of the ATV Polaris Sportsman 500. The old two-seater version received modern tuning. Looks decent and ready for off-road adventures. If we consider the new models, then the analogue is Polaris sprtsman 570. The same MacPherson strut, the same 25-inch wheels, a front plastic case (of course, of a different design). The winch is not included.
The first thing that always worries the owner of the ATV is the installation of a radiator stem kit with a snorkel. In this case, the concern is not in vain. Few people make such kits for ATVs of this category, or rather, except for the Atom company - in general, no one bothers. The kit is installed on the lid of the front case. Accordingly, the trunk ceases to fully open. However, this does not bother the owners at all, who understand that by sacrificing the trunk they really increase the cross-country ability. The radiator stem with a snorkel is installed together with transport platforms, which are seriously reinforced with kerchiefs and stiffeners. Any other structure on the trunk will be shaking, but this kit with a new "humped" body, snorkel and powerful mount is well positioned and securely fastened.
Setting up a snorkel for a Polaris Sportsman ATV is relatively easy, but the duct takes about 6 meters! If it is enough to work with a hairdryer, then you can do without adapters for the filter and the output of the variator. We recommend protecting the air ducts of the snorkel with a Cobra thermal wrapping. A little more expensive, for that it is calmer. From under the hood, the air ducts rise to the radiator outlet and put on the snorkel pipes. Thus, the main tuning element for Polaris is the snorkel stem installed and the Athlete is ready to conquer the Russian off-road.But there are a few more accessories that this ATV needs to feel confident in extreme situations.
Tires of size 25 with small tread are installed on the ATV as standard. We replace them with lightweight STORMBRINGER NOMO tires in the size of 27 inches. However, this cannot be done without spacers. The tie rod end is too close to the rim and will definitely touch the tires. Inch simpletons solve the problem. The rear tires fit into the arches without any problem.
The location for the winch on these models is quite unusual. The winch installed in the upper part will obviously not get wet often and this will certainly prolong its life. Mounting plate made of 4mm steel. Winch cable for the new model of Ultra-molecular-weight polyethylene. It does not need to be washed and dried. Its moisture absorption is zero.
Two 25W flat LED headlights each fit perfectly in design. They replace the light of the central headlight, and they will shine 2 times better.
They are usually installed without any problems. True, the trunk after their installation no longer leans back. To be honest, this is an option for farmers rather than outdoor enthusiasts.
A couple of nice little things - heated trigger, grips and towbar complement the tuning of the Polaris Sportsman ATV and that's it.
Polaris Sportsman in this tuning is, in my opinion, the most powerful offer in the segment, all are "American". Double version 44 horses that fit into the budget - what you need for outdoor activities. In addition, the Polaris Sportsman looks even solid and not as archaic as many competitors in the aftermarket.
The new Polaris Sportsman TOURING 570 has a more modern look and sophisticated design that fits the army of today's SUVs more easily. In terms of cross-country ability of the old "500-ke", it is not inferior, and the version with electric power steering is even more attractive.

I assembled the gearbox on a new separator, new rollers and with a new magnetic plate, filled in the original oil (only at first I filled in 275 ml, not 150). Then I was busy with the rest of the ATV components, so I tested the operation of the drives after a couple of months.
I left for a test drive in the snow - there were good snowdrifts in front of the garage. I drew attention to the fact that pressing the accelerator trigger with the rear wheels slipping in the snow and the AWD off leads to the connection of the front wheels. At first, it was visible by the snow flying out from under them. Then the connection began to occur with a loud click in the front gearbox. I started rebuilding the gearbox several times to fix the problem.
I decided to take an old separator, glue the broken "tooth" and try to fix the rest of the problems in the gearbox. I plan to order a new separator from aluminum to a familiar turner.
So, in the gearbox, I additionally installed a spacer washer between the drive shafts, put the drive shaft bearing on the retainer in the gearbox cover after screwing the metal of the seat, pressed the bushing into the junction of the drive shafts, set the electromagnet holder deeper into the cover, poured 150 ml of original oil ( as much as the manufacturer recommends).
If the electrical part is in order and the oil change did not help, then the gearbox will have to be removed. How to remove the gearbox without disconnecting the radiator - I already wrote. We disassemble it. We look closely - what is suspicious where.The main reason for the spontaneous connection of the front drive is jamming of the separator with the rollers inside the large gear (I will call it “planetary” for short - the healthiest part in the front gear).

Polaris have made significant changes to their ATV lineup. Now updates have come to another model, to the new Sportsman 400 HO ATV in 2011, the utility ATV received similar updates to the Sportsman 500 HO ATV, but in addition, it also changed the dimensions of the frame, base and the ATV itself.
We tested the new version of the Sportsman 400 HO at a private ranch in Montana as part of Polaris' press event. The Sportsman isn't the most popular model, but we eventually figured out why Polaris chose it for the update. Polaris told its customers to squeeze everything out of this machine. Inside there is a high-frequency 455 cc a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine that was taken from the old Sportsman 400 with water cooling and carburetor and is mated to a redesigned gearbox. The continuously variable transmission has also been improved and is more efficient. Buyers will appreciate the low power range, which improves the ATV's performance in working situations and makes it possible to navigate difficult terrain such as rocks and mud. Polaris also made some changes that made the engine quieter, and as you remember in the old model, many complained about the noisy ATV.
But the engine also needs cooling, so the radiator was rearranged three inches, and at an angle to the rear. Polaris made this change to reduce the amount of dirt on the radiator.
There is also a switch between drive modes, you can set the drive to two or four wheels. Modes are switched with a simple switch on the right side of the steering wheel. It is an easy-to-use and easy-to-install system. Engine braking (available as an accessory) and Hill Descent control as standard Sportsman 400 not provided.
The biggest change to the Sportsman 400 is of course its frame, chassis. The new 2011 model now has a full-size chassis borrowed from the 500 HO, which also means additional weight is now added (688 pounds standard weight). A closer look at the front of the hull reveals a new extension - the integrated winch. There was also a more powerful traction boost.
The aspect ratio (800/500/400) and the use of a front suspension structure are also new in the new version. There is also a nice 8.2-inch cargo rack up front. At the rear, Polaris has an independent rear suspension with dual shock absorbers that will provide 9.5 inches of clearance when fully loaded.The clearance is more than good, the plush suspension has 11.25 inches of ground clearance, which does Sportsman 400 HO incredibly versatile when crossing any type of terrain.Having become an all-wheel drive ATV, it also began to have a larger size, which is much more convenient for large (tall and fat) drivers. The new version is not like the previous one because it was too small, but the new configuration is very attractive to a wide range of buyers. With its new size Sportsman 400 has a more respectable seat height of 33.75 inches, which allows the driver to sit quite low. Taking into account its 48-inch width and 50.5 wheelbase, it becomes clear why this car is so stable. In addition, Polaris has reshuffled the A-pillars and narrowed the radiator to fit Lock & Ride accessories.
So what is Sportsman 400 H.O, it is a good, underprivileged 4WD car with an average performance level. If you need more power and performance, you can look at other models like the 500 or 800, or look at their line of XP ATVs.
However, if you compare the new 400 H.O with last year, then they are just perfect. The old model was weak, less aggressive and outperformed by all competitors.
As far as the engine of the new model is concerned, the 455cc four-stroke engine fits well into the new chassis and propels it with no problem. Sure, it's not super powerful or super fast, but Polaris specializes in mid-range ATVs with good power.
It is also worth noting the clearly defined power range. Now you don't have to worry about rocky paths, and fine adjustments to throttle and high torque torque, low frequencies simplify the whole ride, and in any situation the 400 HO will do the job. It's also nice because the base model doesn't have engine braking. For downhill gradients, you can always use a low gear for better braking while helping to avoid skid by properly positioning your body.
Crossing a deep stream and mossy patch is the perfect test for this ATV and its 4x4 system. The Sportsman 400 H.O, though, can handle deep creek thanks to its high power range and more torque and, if required, precision throttle control. In addition, the new Sportsman is well protected from water ingress into key components. For example, the floorboard is completely protected by the legs and feet, the footrests are also good, but in this case the feet would be wet.We crossed several streams with a fast stream and varying depths, but were pleasantly surprised that each time the protective wings kept us dry.
We also tested the overall speed of this ATV on a dual track, it is quite good, we were happy checking it out and had a lot of fun. We even thought that such an ATV should have been called the 450th, somewhere between 400 and 500 and that would be a damn correct name, clearly providing information about this model to buyers. While we love the front suspension on the Sportsman XP, the MacPherson strut front struts fit well here, given their precise sizing and value.
The work of the suspension is especially felt when, when driving over rough terrain, you jump onto a large bump, the front part bounces down, but control is not lost at all. Seriously, the IRS front suspension does a great job of smoothing out any ruts and unexpected bumps.
For new 2011 model 400 HO comfort and ergonomics are the key ingredients that will make this model a top seller. 6 pounds tall and weighing 200 pounds, it will be very comfortable for many drivers of varying experience levels.
CVT and single-lever braking (although we value separate controls more) make it easy to drive - just the gas pedal and go! A simple platform with good flex seat placement will make many people fall in love with this type of ATV.
400 also continues the tradition of improving the entire Sportsman family of ATVs with new floorboards, headlights, Lock & Ride conveniences, an automotive-style gear derailleur and unique ride comfort without straining your back.

Polaris already tried to market the Sportsman 400 midsize ATV, but they failed, but now it is safe to say that the new 2011 Sportsman 400 is a great machine that no longer seems strange compared to other models.
