The process should start by observing security measures and preparing the necessary tools. This will require:

  • protective gloves;
  • chisel;
  • small carpentry or furniture hammer;
  • compacted paper;
  • silicone;
  • scoop and broom.

To begin with, you should carefully use a chisel and a hammer to pry off the glazing beads without completely removing them. To avoid injury, this process should be started at the top of the door. Next, it is necessary to remove the damaged or to be replaced glass, starting with the largest parts. Remember to wear gloves. The rest of the glass is wrapped in prepared paper. After removing all parts of the glass, you can remove the glazing beads.

If there is a rubber gasket, it should be inspected and replaced if necessary. We remove the remnants of glass and other small elements with a broom and a scoop.

Before replacing the glass, it is advisable to remove the door and place it on a flat area (table, two chairs). As a rule, the dismantling of an interior door is made elementary, by removing it from the hinges with light turns and lifting.

The main step when replacing glass is taking measurements. If the glass has the correct and uncomplicated shape, all its measurements can be performed by yourself. It must be remembered that the new glass should have a 1.5-2 mm margin on each side to decrease, and not enter the grooves with force.

    When repairing an interior door due to the need to replace glass, you should decide on the type of new product. Modern technologies used in the manufacture of some glasses make them safe and shock-resistant. For example, triplex or tempered glass, even when deformed, crumbles into safe, non-sharp fragments and has an order of magnitude higher resistance to mechanical stress.

    Below are examples, types of glass and alternatives that can be used when renovating an interior door with glass.

      Decorative glass. This model is the most expensive option and is not used by all manufacturers. By and large, this is the best option that does not require revision. The problem is that it is very difficult to find an identical sample if the glass is damaged. Consequently, replacing it will require similar actions with glass on other doors, which will result in a lump sum.

    Door with decorative glass
    Ordinary glass. An affordable option that requires improvement in the form of pasting it with a special decorative film. However, it costs an order of magnitude lower than the decorative model and fitting to any size will not be difficult.

    Glass door
    Organic glass. At its core, the material in question is a transparent plastic made using a special technology. The advantages include its relative strength compared to conventional and decorative glass. The disadvantage of this material is its susceptibility to scratches, as a result of which it becomes cloudy. However, timely completion with decorative materials not only serves for decoration, but also protects monolithic polycarbonate (plexiglass) from scratches.

  • Fiberboard, plywood. Laminated samples can be used to trim the space in place of the broken glass. This option is the cheapest, but very unattractive.
  • A one-piece door, made without glazing beads, will require a more careful approach when replacing glass. To do this, you will have to disassemble it. This procedure is performed in the following sequence.

      It is necessary to visually examine the door leaf from the ends for the presence of plugs that serve to cover the fasteners.

  • Next, the canvas is dismantled from the hinges and positioned on a convenient surface with the plugs up.
  • On one side, the plugs are removed, the fasteners are unscrewed.

    Unscrewing the fasteners
  • The long sidewall of the door is removed, after which the glass is carefully removed.
  • A new decorative glass or its equivalent is mounted, the door is assembled in the reverse order.
  • In case of interference from the side of the seals, they should be treated with soapy water.

    Installation of glazing beads on the interior door is easy to do yourself. Dismantling was discussed at the beginning of the article. It should be noted that in case of damage to the glazing bead without the possibility of repairing it, you will need to contact a specialized outlet or purchase a special paint and varnish coating or film to match the door leaf.
