Every owner of a Chevrolet Lacetti car may be faced with the need to dismantle the gearbox of his car and change the oil in it. A practical solution would be to learn how to do these manipulations on your own in order to insure yourself in case of unforeseen situations.
When operating a car, the Chevrolet Lacetti gearbox can cause a number of problems. These can be problems of the following type:
Noises appear when changing gears in a car;
Unexplained objective reasons for the increase in fuel consumption when driving around the city;
Clutch cylinders are leaking;
Long stroke;
Incorrectly selected gear ratios.
According to statistics, every second owner of a Chevrolet Lacetti car is faced with such a problem as long-stroke. To put it another way, the longer the amount of time the car continues to move in one gear, without switching, the more long-stroke the box is considered. The converse is also true.The driver experiences certain inconveniences in connection with this circumstance, since he constantly has to keep the engine speed under control.
Another feature that can cause inconvenience to the driver is the fuzzy engagement of the gear.
There are also a few more points: the box may crackle at the moment of gear shifting at low subzero temperatures; reverse gear may not turn on immediately, but after some time; handle travel becomes awkward in second and third gear.
In order not to face such unpleasant moments in the operation of the car, you need to constantly monitor its technical condition.
First of all, you need to keep the oil level in the Chevrolet Lacetti gearbox under control. Operation under the condition of a low oil level will lead to very rapid wear of car parts and its failure.
At the inspection pit, the box is diagnosed for leaks. Typically, leaks occur in the following places:
Differential cover;
The joints of the drive hinges with the box;
The joints of the cylinder block and the crankcase;
Gearshift rod.
If you observe any of the above in your Chevrolet Lacetti, it means that the box needs repair, for which you need to dismantle it. Below you will find instructions on how to dismantle the box, as well as how to reinstall it after repair.
This procedure may be necessary in order to repair the box or replace parts of the drive. Dismantling the box is a rather laborious procedure that requires skills and special equipment. Ideally, it is better for these manipulations to be performed by car service employees. The weight of the box is about 30 kg, so you need the help of another person or you need to use a special lifting device.

Connect the electrical connector of the speedometer sensor;
Connect the reversing light switch connector;
Remove the device used to hang the engine;
Install the drive shaft;
Install the gear shift drive;
Install the battery and the shelf under it;
Check the transmission oil level.
A number of problems associated with the box can be solved and without resorting to dismantling, it happens that it is enough to change the oil in the box and clean it.
Before proceeding with the manipulations, it is necessary to warm up the engine. It is better to change the oil after having driven the car for a while.Ten kilometers will be enough for the engine temperatures to reach operating values. Alternatively, you can warm up the engine in neutral at idle speed. A warm engine will drain the oil faster and more completely than from a cold engine.
Then it is necessary to install the Chevrolet Lacetti on the inspection pit, overpass, lift, since all working manipulations will be done under the machine.
Find the cap located next to the pallet;
Remove the cap;
Unscrew the breather plug using a 17 and 15 wrench;
Place a container under the pallet for draining the old oil, with a volume of at least 2 liters;
Unscrew the pallet nuts using a 13 wrench;
Remove the sump cover after all the old oil has been drained;
Remove the gasket;
Unscrew the level control bolt, as it has a magnetic tip, small metal particles are likely to adhere to it;
Reinstall a new gasket;
Screw on the cover.
Advice from experienced car enthusiasts: for greater reliability, it is better to use a sealant when installing the gasket. If you do not know the exact amount of oil to be poured into the box, then you should not tighten the control plug. Pour in the oil very slowly, when you see that it has poured from below through the control plug, then the process can be stopped.
It is most convenient to pour oil into the Chevrolet Lacetti box using the tube that comes with each oil canister. But a much more convenient option would be to use a large plastic syringe to change the oil in the box. Thanks to the use of a syringe, the oil will accurately hit everything as intended, and not spill around. It also saves a lot of time. You need to pour in oil slowly in order to hear its sound, focusing on this, you can understand in time that it is already worth stopping.
Now it remains only to tighten all previously unscrewed bolts. Be sure to check that nothing is leaking anywhere.
That's it, the gearbox oil change is complete.
The recommended oil change frequency depends on factors such as the driver's driving style and vehicle operating conditions.
In some cases, it is recommended to change the oil more often:
If the movement takes place in conditions of heavy traffic and frequent traffic jams;
If the fuel used is not of the highest quality;
Frequent engine start-stop operation;
If the car is used in conditions of high pollution;
If in winter trips are often made over short distances, and the engine is not given the opportunity to warm up properly before driving.
The regularity of oil changes is also influenced by the quality of the oil itself poured into the box.
The most suitable oil option for the Chevrolet Lacetti is synthetics purchased from a specialized auto store. Thanks to the choice of high-quality oil, the engine looks like new even on a car with high mileage. You also need to take into account the recommendations from the manufacturer, which are indicated in the documents accompanying the car.
