If no breaks are found in the section from the source to the pump inlet, you will have to thoroughly check all the components of the pumping unit:
A burned-out engine can be restored by rewinding, but in some cases it will be necessary to purchase a new unit.

Circulation pumps of various types are often used today in country houses and summer cottages, which makes it possible to make the operation of autonomous heating systems more efficient and at the same time save on energy resources. Meanwhile, if such a hydraulic machine fails, the entire heating system ceases to function, which puts its user with a choice: use the services of qualified specialists or repair the heating circulation pump with his own hands.
Dismantling the circulation pump
The reasons for the breakdown of circulation pumps, the types of which differ from each other in certain design features, are associated both with non-compliance with the rules for operating such equipment, and with the quality of the coolant, drops in the power supply network, as well as with a number of other factors. Before deciding on an independent repair of the circulating pump, you should understand well the design and principle of operation of such a device, which will allow you to establish the exact cause of its failure and eliminate it.
Without knowing the device of the circulation pump, you will not only be able to repair such a hydraulic machine, if necessary, but also engage in regular maintenance. The design of circulation pumps is:
a body made of stainless steel or non-ferrous alloys;
an electric motor, the shaft of which is connected to the rotor;
directly the rotor itself, on which the wheel with blades is installed - the impeller (its blades, which are constantly in contact with the pumped medium, can be made of metal or polymer materials).
Circulation pump design
The circulation pump operates, regardless of its design, according to the following principle.
After the electric current is supplied, the shaft of the drive motor begins to rotate the rotor on which the impeller is installed.
The heat-transfer fluid entering the inner part of the pump through the suction branch pipe is thrown by the impeller and centrifugal force to the walls of the working chamber.
The liquid, which is subject to centrifugal force, is pushed into the discharge pipe.
As mentioned above, depending on the design features, the circulation pump for heating can be of different types. So, devices with a rotor are distinguished:
In private houses, the most commonly used circulation pumps are "wet" type
For circulation pumps of the first type, which are used mainly for equipping domestic heating systems, the rotor is constantly in a liquid medium. This not only contributes to the lubrication of the moving parts, but also to their efficient cooling. The main advantages of this type of equipment include:
low noise level during operation, since the water, in which all the moving elements of such a device are located, perfectly absorbs vibrations;
ease of installation (such pumps simply cut into the pipeline), maintenance and repair.
Meanwhile, pumps with a "wet" rotor, if we talk about their shortcomings, are not very efficient, can be installed only in a horizontal position and are very critical of the lack of liquid in the heating system.
Pumps with "dry" rotor are installed in separate boiler rooms and are used in systems that heat large areas
The drive motor of pumps with a "dry" rotor is placed in a separate unit. Rotation from the motor shaft is transmitted to the impeller by means of a special coupling. Unlike devices with a "wet" rotor, pumps of this type are characterized by a higher efficiency (up to 80%), but also by a more complex design, which somewhat complicates the procedures for their maintenance and repair. Circulation pumps with a "dry" rotor are cut into the pipeline and their body is fixed to the wall, for which a special console is used.
In order not to face situations in which the circulation pump installed in the heating system will require repair, it is necessary to strictly follow the rules for operating such equipment, which are as follows.
If there is no water in the pipeline, it is impossible to start the circulation pump.
The value of the generated water pressure must be within the characteristics specified in the technical passport of the circulation pump. If the device produces a reduced or, conversely, increased water pressure, this can lead to its rapid wear and, accordingly, failure.
During the period in which the heating system is not used, the pump must be turned on for circulation at least once a month for a quarter of an hour, which will prevent oxidation and blockage of its moving parts.
It is very important to ensure that the water temperature in the heating system does not exceed 65 °. In water heated to a higher temperature, a precipitate begins to actively form, which, interacting with the moving parts of the hydraulic machine, contributes to their active wear and, accordingly, the failure of the entire device.
It is necessary to inspect the circulation pump and check the correctness of its operation on a monthly basis. Such measures make it possible to identify malfunctions in the operation of equipment at the initial stage and promptly take appropriate measures.
Periodic inspection of the circulation pump will significantly reduce the likelihood of its failure during the heating season.
Checking the circulation pump for correct operation includes such actions as:
switching on the hydraulic machine to the operating mode and checking the level of noise and vibration generated by it;
checking the pressure (pressure level) of the coolant created in the discharge pipe (as mentioned above, the pressure of the liquid must be within the values given in the technical data sheet);
control of the degree of heating of the engine, which should not be too high;
checking for the presence of grease on the threaded connecting elements of the pump and applying it if it is absent;
checking the presence and correctness of the grounding of the body of the hydraulic machine;
checking for leaks both on the pump casing and in the places where it is connected to the pipeline (if leaks are present in such places, it is necessary to tighten the threaded connections and check the integrity of the installed gaskets);
Inspection of the terminal box and check if the wire is fixed in it (in addition, it is necessary to check whether moisture gets into the terminal box, which is unacceptable).
The main reason for the rapid wear of friction bearings in pumps is considered to be the increased contamination of the coolant.
It is possible to single out several of the most typical malfunctions for circulation pumps, which are quite realistic to eliminate with your own hands. Such malfunctions can be identified by their characteristic signs, without even disassembling the pump and without using complex diagnostic equipment.
A situation where the pump is noisy but the impeller is stationary is often caused by oxidation of the drive motor shaft. This can happen due to the fact that the hydraulic machine has not been used for a long time. To repair the heating pump with your own hands with such a malfunction, you must perform the following steps:
disconnect the power supply;
drain all water from the pump and the adjacent pipeline;
by unscrewing the corresponding screws, dismantle the drive motor together with the rotor;
resting on the working notch of the rotor with a hand or a screwdriver, turn it by force, moving it off the dead center.
Disassembled circulation pump
The pump will make noise, but it will not work even if a foreign object gets into its inner part, which blocks the rotation of the impeller. To repair the circulation pump in such a situation, do the following:
turn off the power supply;
drain water from the pump and the adjacent pipeline;
disassemble the pump according to the above scheme;
remove a foreign object;
a strainer is installed on the inlet pipe.
This is how the casing of the circulation pump looks like from the inside.
If the switched on circulation pump does not make noise, but also does not work, there may be problems with the power supply. To identify the cause and eliminate such a malfunction, disassembling the circulation pump may not be required: using a tester, they check the level and presence of voltage at the device terminals. In many cases, to eliminate such a malfunction, it is enough to correctly connect the pump to the power supply.
If there is a fuse in the design of the circulating pump, then it could burn out during a voltage drop in the mains, which can also be the reason why the heating pump does not work and does not make noise when it is turned on. To restore pump operation, simply replace the blown fuse.
Armed with a tester and a schematic diagram, you can find more serious breakdowns in the electrical part of the pump, for example, burned out windings
In the event that a layer of lime deposits has formed on the inner surface of the stator, the running pump will periodically stop. To solve this problem, it is necessary to disassemble the pump and clean all its internal parts from lime deposits.
The reason for the loud noise of the equipment when pumping liquid can be the presence of a large amount of air in the pipeline. To eliminate such a problem, it is enough to bleed air from the pipes. In order not to face this in the future, you can install a special unit in the upper part of the heating system circuit, which will automatically release air from the pipeline.
If the body of the hydraulic machine vibrates strongly when pumping the coolant, this may indicate that the bearing that ensures the rotation of the impeller is badly worn out. Repair of a circulation pump for heating in this case consists in replacing a worn bearing.
End graphite bearing of the "Grundfos" pump
Among the reasons for the discrepancy between the fluid pressure and the standard values at the outlet of the centrifugal pump are the following.
The impeller is rotating in the wrong direction.
The phase conductors in the terminal box are incorrectly connected (with three-phase connection).
The viscosity of the heating medium used is too high.
The filter installed on the suction line is clogged.
The specified issue is corrected according to the cause that caused the issue.
The reasons for such a malfunction may be incorrect connection of the phase wires in the terminal box, bad or oxidized contacts in the safety assembly of the device.
To repair the electronic component of the pump, you will need basic knowledge of electrical engineering.
This is another nuisance that occurs quite often during the operation of such equipment. Why is the circulation pump heating up? The reasons may be different, but such a situation always indicates that your equipment is operating under increased load.
Thus, many situations in which the circulation pump does not work or does not work correctly can be dealt with on your own, without resorting to the services of qualified specialists and without purchasing expensive spare parts and components for repair.

Before the start of the heating season, in order not to subsequently face the failure of the circulation pump and its repair, it is necessary to properly prepare the device for a long period of intensive work.
It is necessary to check the correctness of the pump tapping into the pipeline, referring to the arrow on the housing and the impeller rotation indicator. When installing a new pipeline for installing a circulating hydraulic machine, it is better to choose a section directly in front of the boiler, where the risk of air congestion is minimized.
Grease must be present on gaskets and pump nozzles to prevent drying out.
Check the condition of the suction strainer and, if clogged, thoroughly clean it.
It is also required to evaluate the correct connection of the pump to the power supply, for which a tester is used.
Check the tightness and reliability of the hydraulic machine connections.
It is necessary to perform a test run, the results of which will show whether your equipment is ready for the heating season.

Before disassembling the circulation pump, if it becomes necessary (for example, during repairs), it is necessary to disconnect it from the power supply and remove it from the pipeline by unscrewing all fastening threaded elements.
After the pump has been dismantled from the heating system, you can start disassembling it:
The cover is removed, which is fixed to the pump body with special bolts.
After removing the cover, the impeller is removed from the inside of the pump.
After that, access to all internal parts of the pump will be provided, they can be inspected, cleaned or replaced with new ones, if necessary.
The sequence of disassembling circulation pumps of various models for repair is very well demonstrated by videos that are easy to find on the net.

Do-it-yourself pump station repair is one of the best options for getting out of a situation when some problems arise in it. Today the water supply equipment market is oversaturated with offers for every taste. Two water supply systems have positive reviews about reliability - the Marina pumping station and the Jileks station, the structure of which is identical.
Owners of their own water supply system on the territory of a private house or summer cottage often face various kinds of malfunctions. Basically, pumping stations contain the following elements:
water pump;
hydraulic accumulator;
relay;
pressure gauge.
The main task of the water pump is to take water from the right source. Surface pumps installed either in special rooms of the house or in caissons adapted for this are popular among consumers. The pump must have sufficient power to lift water from the well, move it to the house and lift it to the upper water-tipping point of the housing.
An important component is a hydraulic accumulator (storage tank) with a capacity of 20 liters or more. A hydraulic accumulator is a metal container, the task of which is to maintain constant pressure in the station pipelines. A successful model of a battery in the form of a metal balloon with a rubber membrane inside. The membrane stretches and goes back to its previous position, depending on whether the pumping station is running or not.
The relay turns on and off the pump, determining the need for its operation by the water level in the tank. The pressure gauge is designed to indicate the pressure level in the water supply system.The presented set of units and equipment of a water supply station can work as a single system, and each individual element can work on its own. On the market niche there are ready-made pumping stations in the form of a pumping device installed on a pressure accumulator. The single frame also contains an automatic control device.
The operation of the pumping station is carried out according to the following scheme: receiving power from the source, the suction pump begins to draw water, the water goes into the tank, filling it to a certain level, after which the pressure switch stops the suction device. When a person consumes water, the liquid level in the membrane tank drops, the pressure switch gives the command to implement the water intake process again.
Usually, when buying a pumping station, a warranty period is indicated. And what to do when the pump does not pump water after such a period has expired? There are certain approaches to performing work related to the failure of the station, allowing you to find the cause of the breakdown, and ways to repair the pumping station with your own hands. In many cases, this does not take as much time as it might seem at first glance.
The first step is to check the tightness of the pipes and the presence of water in the system. When there is no water, the reason could be a malfunction of the check valve located between the head of the well and the inlet pipe of the pumping station. This part stops working as a result of clogging of the valve with foreign objects. The unsuitability of the spring that controls the operation of this element is also being considered.
Clogging of the valve is eliminated by cleaning it after removal, and if it breaks down, you need to completely replace the check valve, but this will require a significant amount. With a prolonged downtime of the pumping station, a situation arises of the disappearance of water at the junction of the well and the pump. A special fill hole eliminates the problem.
If there is a seasonal drop in water level problem, the solution is to place the pump inlet circuit deeper into the well shaft. Deep immersion of the inlet circuit increases the likelihood of clogging; to prevent this, a filter is installed.
Insufficient voltage in the network is also the reason for the lack of water flow when the supply system is running. This is determined by the power supply tester. The wear of the pump blades is eliminated according to the following plan:
disassembly of the pumping device using a special tool to facilitate removal;
inspection of the impeller condition, if necessary - replacement of a broken blade;
if it is impossible to replace a broken part (it all depends on the manufacturer), the pump completely changes.
When the pump is turned on frequently, the water supply is jerky. The reason is a breakdown in the operation of the automation unit (pressure gauge). The pressure gauge measures the pressure. The readings of this element can drop sharply, then the water will flow in jerks. This happens if the membrane of the pressure accumulator, which changes its size depending on the volume of water, has become unusable.
Breakage is determined by pressing the nipple, which makes access to the membrane. When air leaves it, it is serviceable. In case of water ingress, the membrane of the accumulator must be urgently replaced. To change the element, it is necessary to disassemble the battery case by unscrewing the bolts.
When it was found that the pump does not pump water, one of the reasons may be that the pressure in it is not correctly adjusted. The problem is eliminated according to the following scheme:
the pumping station is turned off from the mains;
water is drained from the water tank;
the air pressure in the tank is measured through the nipple by an automobile pump with a pressure gauge or compressor, its optimal value is 90-95%;
air is pumped into the water supply system.
water is poured into the station;
connects to the network with pressure control.
The air in the water supply system is pumped as follows. The cover with the pressure switch is removed by removing the plastic screw and changing the tightening force of the existing springs of the assembly. By turning one nut, the lower value of the pump is switched on. Clockwise rotation increases the pressure, while counterclockwise rotation causes the pressure to decrease.
Turning the other nut adjusts the pressure range between the lower and upper limits. The boundaries of the range are changed by rotating the element clockwise to expand, counterclockwise to decrease it. After the steps taken, the pumping station is connected to the power grid, and its performance is checked.
There are several more types of pumping station breakdown. For example, there is a constant injection of water, it happens when the regulation relay stops working due to wear. To eliminate the malfunction, it is necessary to clamp the stretched springs of the relay and, if necessary, clean it from clogging.
When the pump does not pump water from the well, the first step is to check if there is electricity in the circuit. If everything is in order, the cause of the malfunction may be the winding of the electric motor. In case of breakdowns in the winding, the motor does not work, and the smell of insulation burning is felt. The elimination of the problem consists in a complete replacement of the engine.
VIDEO
Another case of system malfunction is the production of sound without rotating the pumping device. Long downtime is the culprit. The rotor wheels "freeze" on the inner surface of the station. To begin with, the pump shaft is developed by turning it by hand; if necessary, the impeller is cleaned of debris.
Since the pump casing also has a diffuser with a connected guide, the hydrophore also stops in the event of a malfunction. The solution is to replace the diffusers for the pumping stations and then reassemble the pump in the reverse order.
This failure occurs when the terminal box capacitor stops working. An electrical tester detects a malfunction that often occurs in motors operating in a three-phase circuit. When the capacitor closes, it melts or darkens, there is only one way out - to replace the part. The main thing is to make sure that the wires are securely fastened, otherwise the capacitor will be inoperative.
Almost all breakdowns of pumping equipment stations are eliminated, and do-it-yourself pump station repair is not a myth.
To reduce the likelihood of malfunctions in the operation of the pumping station, specialists are strongly recommended to perform the prescribed maintenance and preventive inspection of the water supply systems.

The installation process itself and self-service of pumping stations require a lot of time, a significant initial investment of money, but they pay off by the absence of payment for the consumed water.
Marina Speroni pumping stations of various series are designed to ensure uninterrupted water supply to a summer house, garden, private house, etc.
Most often, these products are used:
for the organization of watering and irrigation of flower and vegetable gardens, various plantings and lawns;
to work with special garden sprinklers;
for taking water from various sources: reservoirs, water basins, streams, ponds, rainwater collection points and wells using the required filters.
Features of operation and technical characteristics of the Marina pumping station
All stations are equipped with a thermal relay that protects the motor from overheating. In the event that the temperature exceeds the permitted limit values, the pump turns off automatically.
All models of the Marina Speroni pumping station consist of the following main elements:
power cord with a plug;
fittings are connecting;
pressure gauge;
pressure switch;
hydroaccumulator;
surface pump.
After the pump turns on, water fills the system from the check valve to the end consumer.When the water intake by consumers is completed, the water pressure in the water supply system rises to the maximum value set by the relay settings. After that, the specified relay turns off the pump.
The reopening of any water taps leads to the beginning of the flow of water into it from the accumulator, where it is under excess pressure. In the process of consuming water, the pressure in this tank drops to a lower value, also set by the relay settings. After decreasing the pressure, the relay generates a command to turn on the pump. Water again begins to be pumped into the accumulator and supplied to consumers.
At the moment the maximum pressure in the accumulator is reached, the pump is turned off, etc. the cycles are repeated until the moment when water intake by consumers stops. The accumulator, absorbing a certain volume of water, plays the role of a water hammer damper, which are extinguished in it. Such a technical solution allows to achieve energy savings and does not allow motor overload.
The accumulator itself has the following design: a steel tank with an internal anti-corrosion coating and equipped with a replaceable membrane, which is made of food-grade rubber, equipped with a pneumatic valve for pumping compressed air into it.
disassemble and repair the pump yourself;
operate it without grounding;
operate without water;
allow air to enter the suction line.
Technical characteristics of Marina pumping stations
The main requirement that the manufacturer makes for the installation of the station is the performance of all electrical work by qualified electricians who have the appropriate approval groups. The specified work must be performed in strict accordance with the requirements of PTE and PTB.
A mandatory requirement is the installation of an RCD designed for leakage currents of 30 mA.
The diameter of the pipe installed on the suction line of the station should not be less than the diameter of the inlet opening. In cases where the suction head is 4 meters or more, or the horizontal section of the water supply (suction line) exceeds 20 meters, the specified diameter must exceed the inlet diameter.
When installing the suction line, you should control whether the angle of inclination of the line from the pumping station to the water intake is 1 or more degrees. Reverse angles are strictly unacceptable.
Installation is carried out in the following sequence:
The pump is placed as close as possible to the suction source.
A suction pipe equipped with a check valve is connected to the end inlet. To do this, it is recommended to use a special adapter, which is not included in the delivery set and must be purchased separately.
The pressure line is connected to the upper outlet of the pump.
Through the filler opening, the suction line and the pump housing are filled with water. To do this, unscrew and then screw on a special plug on the top of the pump.
Checking the presence of voltage in the network.
The pump is connected to the network.
When installing pumping stations of the models listed in the table above, be sure to check that air is pumped into the accumulator under a pressure of 1.5-2 atmospheres. If the pressure is less, then it should be pumped through the existing pneumatic valve with a conventional automobile pump. The pressure in the specified device must be monitored monthly, first draining the water from the pressure line for this.
The most common malfunctions of Marina pumping stations are described below.
Although the pump rotates, no water enters the system. The reason for this situation may be:
violation of tightness in pipelines;
lack of water in the pump or pipeline;
the check valve is not functioning correctly.
You can eliminate the malfunction by performing the following steps step by step: check for the presence of water, if there is no water, top up through a special hole or lower the suction hose (or the pump itself) deeper. In this case, it should be monitored that the distance from the water surface to the pump remains the maximum allowed.
If there is water, then the check valve is checked. If it is in good technical condition, the tightness of the pipelines (at the joints) is checked and possible violations of the latter are eliminated.
In cases where this did not help, the likely cause can be considered a failure of the pump due to the ingress of a large amount of abrasives (sand, for example) into it. Here you need to disassemble the pump and change its impeller or housing. In exceptional cases, the pump will need to be replaced.
In areas where the voltage in the network is subject to significant fluctuations, you should check its value. The pump may not be working due to a strong drop.
The station began to work in spurts. Excessively frequent switching on of the station can be caused by damage to a part of the hydraulic tank, which does not allow to gain the specified pressure in it. Eliminate the indicated cause as follows: press the nipple located on the back of the tank. If not air, but water comes out of it, the inner membrane, which has mechanical damage, should be replaced.
Another reason may be a violation of the tightness of the tank body itself. The breakdown point should be found and sealed. In some cases, the problem is solved by simply pumping air to a predetermined pressure value (1.5 - 1.8 atm). This procedure is performed through a standard fitting on the product. A possible reason may be a violation of the tightness of the joints of the water conduit at the suction section. Check and eliminate leaks.
The pump has stopped turning on. This happens when there is no power. It is necessary to check the integrity of the pressure switch windings or clean the burnt contacts. If the engine is burnt out, it is easy to understand by the characteristic smell.
The pump turns on, but the impeller does not rotate. There are two reasons: either it "stuck" to the body of the pump itself, or the capacitor has broken. Most often, such malfunctions occur at stations that have not worked for a long time.
You can fix it like this: turn the impeller by hand several times, and the pump will start. If the capacitor breaks down, it will need to be replaced.
The station works constantly and does not turn off. This is caused by a malfunction of the pressure switch. To eliminate the malfunction, it must be adjusted. These purposes are served by two springs placed on the relay: a small one and a large one. The adjustment technology is described in the corresponding instructions.

When performing the full scope of preventive maintenance and servicing of the pumping station, the likelihood of malfunctions is minimized. The identified faults should be eliminated promptly and, preferably, by professional repairmen. This will allow you to restore the water supply in the shortest possible time.
