DIY typhoon pump repair

In detail: do-it-yourself typhoon pump repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Most of the vibration pumps offered on the market today are not designed to work as part of a pumping station. The use of such a pump led to its early failure. Therefore, the Kiev enterprise Bosna-LG launched the production of inexpensive vibration pumps designed for use in autonomous water supply systems. Today one of the most popular models is the Typhoon-2 pump. With a power of 250 W, it is able to lift water from a depth of up to 90 m!

However, as it sometimes happens with domestic manufacturers, a unique idea is completely discounted by unsatisfactory assembly and small design errors that lead to breakdowns. Let's take a closer look at some of the important points and improvements that make such a pump a set-and-forget product. For this we need:
1) Socket hex keys for 5 and 5.5;
2) hammer;
3) 8 locknuts;
4) an adjustable wrench;
5) assemblies;
6) a piece of clean cloth;
7) fine sandpaper;
8) some liquid soap.
The last five points are necessary when performing an audit or repair.

Typhoon-2 necessarily requires installation of locknuts under the bolts, especially for the bottom cover bolts. The fact is that the very principle of operation of such a pump assumes increased vibration, which negatively affects all bolted joints, causing them to disengage. The bottom cover, on which there are two fungal check valves, in the bolted joints has a very small metal thickness with initially loosened bolts, therefore unscrewing at least one causes a chain reaction of unscrewing the rest. As a result, the cover gains partial mobility, and the water pressure seriously damages it. In this photo, a metal chip is clearly visible in the place of a loosened bolt.

Video (click to play).

The study of breakdown statistics suggests that the problem with the bottom cover is the most common. Therefore, whether it is a new or operated pump, we put locknuts. Unscrew the bolts with a socket wrench and install the locknuts.

Tighten the bolts firmly! The use of a hammer is acceptable. Redesigning the bonnet bolting is the first step in ensuring continued pump performance. Any vibration pump, especially one that works as part of a pumping station, after a certain time will require revision, which consists in replacing wearing parts. These include rubber piston and check valves. The need for replacement is determined very simply - the pump hums, but does not create pressure. To replace the check valves, you must remove the cover and remove the fungi, gently prying it off with a screwdriver. It is much easier to install new ones if you grease their protruding part with liquid soap, and then stretch them with assemblies. The main load is on the piston, so after some time (depending on the intensity of operation) it may need to be replaced. To do this, you need to disassemble the pump housing.

Very often, the trivial replacement of the washer allows you to increase the duration of the operation of this part.

Most often, the piston is damaged by the pressure washer, which can be clearly seen in the photo.

The washer itself is bent in the shape of a plate, but when working, its edges seem to cut the rubber of the piston. The higher the developed pressure, the faster the wear. The piston life can be slightly increased by simply turning the existing washer or replacing it. When making an audit, it is useful to remove the formed carbon deposits with a piece of cloth.

We polish the electrotechnical iron of the moving part with fine emery paper - “zero”.

When reassembling the chassis, it is important to install the rails correctly. The removed ring with lugs itself is often not fixed in any way and rotates freely around its axis.

These protrusions must be sure to align with the housing guides.

The gap formed between the parts of the body is tightened with bolts. It is also useful to place locknuts under these bolts. Tighten with a hammer. When operating the Typhoon-2 pump, you should always remember that the higher the pressure it develops, the faster the wear and the subsequent revision. No wonder the nominal head is 40 m, and 90 m is the maximum.

Vibration pumps of the "Typhoon-2" brand from the Bosna-LG company allow at minimal cost to organize an operating water supply system based on a hydraulic accumulator (GA). The two-valve water intake system makes it possible to raise water from a depth of up to 90 m to the mirror, while the flow rate is 8 liters per minute.

One of the advantages of Typhoon-2 is its low cost. For example, the popular centrifugal "Aquarius" with a similar pressure will cost almost 10 times more - an irrational cost with infrequent use of the system. But, as you know, inexpensive equipment has a number of features. If you look at the messages on the forums, then one of the frequent malfunctions of the Typhoon-2 pump, which manifests itself some time after the start of its operation as part of a private water supply system, is a sharply increased level of hum, accompanied by a loss of generated pressure. In practice, everything looks like this: after the next turn-on, the pump hums more than usual, and the increase in water pressure in the accumulator stops at a certain level, until the upper limit of the control relay is reached. As a result, the pump does not turn off.

If such a malfunction occurs, you should not panic - if there are spare parts and conditions, the previous performance is restored in 10-15 minutes.

The tool that we need is a hammer, crowbars and a hex wrench (1). Turn off the power and take the pump out of the well (well) (2). Tapping the key with a hammer, unscrew the 4 bolts holding the body together (3, 4).

Please note that the bolts are not immediately unscrewed, but loosened, and not in a row, but first one opposite, then the other two. Ignoring this well-known rule can lead to the fact that it will be impossible to unscrew the latter without a hammer and chisel. The reason for this is that the two halves of the Typhoon-2 pump body are not just held in place by bolts - they are tightened, and if the bolts are completely unscrewed, a gap of several millimeters will appear between the halves. Because of this tension, it is almost impossible to unscrew the last unloosened bolt.

So, we disassemble the case. Once the pump has been disassembled, it is useful to perform an audit. To do this, take out the vibrator unit (5) and inspect the state of the fixed part of the electromagnet magnetic circuit filled with the compound. In the photo, it is ideal (6), despite a year of continuous operation in the system with GA. If there are traces of burning or, even worse, carbon deposits cover the entire surface, then we eliminate the pollution with a dry rag and zero-grade emery paper. Examine the moving part (7) in the same way. By the way, carbon deposits indicate overloads and (or) overestimated supply voltage.

Examine the piston (8). He is the culprit of the malfunction. Obviously, it just ripped (9). Accordingly, when a certain pressure level is reached, the piston begins to "bend" without pushing water into the line. The first Typhoon-2 models used much more advanced pistons, which had a sealed guide tube inside. In addition, the rubber itself was more durable.Alas, in the pursuit of cost, the manufacturer began to ignore the wishes of buyers. Perhaps the wear rate depends on the aggressiveness of the pumped liquid. In this case, the pump pumps ordinary water from the well. Take a new piston (10) and replace the old one.

When assembling, make sure that the lugs of the cover line up with the “ears” of the vibrator ring (12, 13). The resulting gap between the body parts is tightened with bolts.

It is a pity that the manufacturer decided to save money and use not stainless or brass bolts, but ordinary steel ones. As a result, after 1-2 years of being in water, they corrode so badly that it is almost impossible to unscrew them without drilling (11). There is only one advice - if possible, they should be immediately replaced with high-quality ones.

The Ukrainian brand Bosna-LG has been supplying the market with inexpensive and reliable Typhoon pumps for several years in a row, which are preferred by many owners of country houses.

These efficient units are versatile pumping equipment.... "Typhoon" can be installed in a well or a borehole, and with its help they take water from reservoirs, reservoirs and ponds. It is easily mounted in an autonomous water supply system - the owners use such pumps to complete household pumping stations on their own.

The model belongs to submersible vibration units. Traditionally, for this type of pumping equipment, the body of the device is divided into two Image - DIY typhoon pump repair

chambers - the first is designed for the engine and the magnetic coil, the second, made in the form of a cylinder, is used as a pump compartment, has a built-in anchor and a piston. Water intake takes place through a two-channel system - the pump section is equipped with two valves at once, ensuring the entrance and free outflow of water in the absence of pressure.

The working chambers are delimited by an elastic diaphragm and a shock absorber, which ensures the tightness of the engine compartment. The electric drive includes two magnetic coils, a discharge nozzle and a core - all parts are filled with epoxy compound to prevent water ingress and ensure the reliability of the structure.

The principle of operation of the unit is based on the use of oscillations of the armature and pistons caused by the electromagnetic field of the coils.

The brand's patented bushing and stem guide design is particularly robust.

Manufacturers supply the markets with two models at once - an early version and an upgraded one:Image - DIY typhoon pump repair

  • Typhoon-1 is the first version of the model, designed to work with a depth of 16 meters. The diameter of the product is 10 centimeters, so it must be borne in mind that it can only be lowered into a shallow hole with a diameter of 12.5 centimeters (between the body and the device there must be a gap for free play). This model is designed to draw water from wells, reserve tanks or irrigation tanks, as well as from pools and ponds with clean water.
  • Typhoon-2 is a modernized device with the ability to draw water from a depth of up to 90 meters. It is one of the most popular models on the market and is designed to operate in wells from 12.5 cm in diameter.

The main difference between the models is the working depth at which they can be used. The early version of the device refers to units operating at a relatively shallow depth (but the technical indicators are almost twice as high as those of competitors!). The upgraded model is a real submersible pump for wells with an impressive capacity of up to 2,500 liters of water per hour.

Also, the models differ in terms of thermal protection characteristics:

  • BV-0.25-40-U5-M - marking of the depth model, indicating increased protection of the unit from overheating;
  • BV-0.5-16-U5-M - marking of the early model, with weaker protection of the engine from overheating.

And the placement of the water intake:

  • base model with bottom water intake;
  • upgraded with top.

Basic characteristics of the base model:

  • power - 240 watts;
  • maximum head - 30 meters;
  • productivity - 750 liters per hour;
  • power cable length - 10 meters.

Characteristics of the upgraded model:

  • power - 240 watts;
  • maximum head - 90 meters;
  • productivity is 2,500 liters per hour;
  • cable length - 10 meters.

The advantages of both models:Image - DIY typhoon pump repair

  • affordable price;
  • long service life;
  • reliability;
  • quiet operation (devices are immersed in water);
  • built-in overheating protection;
  • reliable water cooling due to a two-channel intake;
  • compact size;
  • high performance.
  • for maintenance, the unit must be removed to the surface;
  • high starting current.

The price of the base model is on average 4,500 rubles. The upgraded version can be purchased at a price of 5,000 rubles.

Early version models are recommended to be used when connected to a network with an unstable voltage from 180 to 250 volts (marking BV-0.5-16-U5-M on Typhoon-1).

The choice of the device should also be based on the calculation of the depth of the source of autonomous water supply and its flow rate (performance). The first pump model is ideal for wells up to 16 meters deep and with average flow rates. It is desirable to run the upgraded device into a deep well with high productivity.

When taking water from tanks and reservoirs, the pump can be immersed to a minimum depth of one meter. Both models are suitable for watering.

To arrange water supply in a private house, it is necessary to connect a hydraulic accumulator with a capacity of 100 liters or more, equipped with an automatic control unit, to the pumping equipment of this brand, which will significantly increase the service life of the product.

The manufacturer guarantees that the pumps, subject to all operating rules, can last up to ten years.

It should be noted that the manufacturer took care of the correct installation of the equipment and provided it with the appropriate equipment, which includes:

  • a coupling for mounting a pipe or hose (three-quarters);
  • nylon cord for hanging and securing the unit;
  • protective rubber ring.

To install the pump in a well or well, you must perform the following steps:Image - DIY typhoon pump repair

  • a check valve is mounted to the unit branch pipe;
  • a pipe is attached to the valve using a coupling (if a water supply system is being installed) or a flexible hose;
  • the power cable is attached to a pipe or hose with plastic clamps (clips), it is allowed to use insulating tape;
  • a protective rubber ring is put on the device to protect it from impacts;
  • a nylon cord is threaded into special safety holes in the upper part of the case and is securely fixed in place (if the depth is small, on
  • the cord is additionally attached with a wire or rubber band);
  • the structure is lowered into a well or borehole using a cord - do not hold the pump by the hose, pipe or power cable.

To lower the unit into a very deep hole, it is better to use a tripod with a block installed in the center of the shaft.

To ensure a long service life, you must adhere to a few simple rules:Image - DIY typhoon pump repair

  • when using the pump in an autonomous water supply system, it is necessary to install a hydraulic accumulator with automatic control;
  • to ensure constant pressure in the system, a check valve is installed to prevent the outflow of water;
  • units with a lower water intake hole are installed 30-50 centimeters from the bottom;
  • the productivity of the device should not exceed the flow rate of the well or well.

To work with the pump you will need:

  • adjustable wrench,
  • socket wrenches (size 5 and 5.5 mm),
  • hammer,
  • pliers.

This is due to loose nuts, broken stem, or valve wear.

The pump must be disassembled. For this, the outer bolts on the body are unscrewed. Then the nuts on the stem located on top of the shock absorbers are tightened.One of them can be counter-locked (fixed for secure fastening). If the reason is worn valves, they must be replaced with new ones. A deformed stem cannot be restored.

The probable cause is a damaged cable or burnt winding of the coils.

A failed cable can be easily detected using a household tester. Sealing the cable in the engine compartment with compound makes it difficult to completely replace it. To fix the problem, remove the damaged part of the cable and extend it with a new one. To get to the magnetic coils, it is necessary to disassemble the case (separate the pump compartment from the engine compartment) and carefully remove the compound with a hammer and screwdriver. You can rewind yourself or take the coils to a repair shop. The repaired magnetic coils are installed on a sealant (suitable for automotive glass).

To ensure the smooth operation of the water supply system, it is necessary to take into account all the technical characteristics of the pump (pressure, performance, power), observe the operating rules specified by the manufacturer in the instructions, and also regularly carry out technical inspections.

During maintenance, the bolts on the body are tightened. If malfunctions are noticed, the device is disassembled completely and their cause is found out - the pistons and valves are inspected, the engine compartment problems are eliminated.

It is very important to take into account the type of soil in which the well is arranged. Vibratory pumps of all brands have proven themselves perfectly in soils with coarse sand, quartz or gravel. Clay soils or soils containing fine sand pose additional problems. When vibrating, the well or well silts up very quickly, and the pumps lose their performance.

The Typhoon water pump is designed and manufactured by Bosna LG (Ukraine). The manufacturer positions its pumps as having no analogues in terms of immersion depth and performance. The pump can be used to supply water to a private house from a well, a well or an open water source.

Typhoon has unique technical characteristics and built-in protection system.

The Bosna LG company produces three brands of Typhoon submersible electric pumps for clean cold water in a cast iron casing. All water pumps in this series are designed to operate on a 220V electrical network. The water intake is lower, which requires the suspension of these pumps at a certain distance from the bottom.

Small diameter - 10 cm makes it possible to use all models in wells of sizes from 12 cm. All Bosna LG equipment is provided with a 12-month warranty from the manufacturer. The pump package includes a coupling for connection to a hose or pipe.

Electric pump The Typhoon-1 pump, modification BV-0.5-16-U5-M, is a high-performance household unit with an immersion depth of up to 16 m. The capacity of this pump at a maximum immersion depth is 35 l / min, at a depth of 3 m - 50 l / min. ...

The pumping device is capable of pumping water from a depth of up to 8 m. The equipment is equipped with a built-in overheating protection system and a two-channel water intake system for additional cooling of the body during operation.

The pump modification BV-0.25-40-U5M is capable of transporting water over a distance of 90 m, which includes pumping out of the wellbore, moving along horizontal and vertical sections of the water supply to the consumer. This can only be done with very expensive imported pumps. The performance of the electric pump depends on the distance between it and the output: 90-80 m - 8 l / min, 40 m - 15 l / min, 10 m - 30 l / min, 5 m - 40 l / min.

The pump is equipped with a built-in thermal protection and a two-channel water intake system for the best cooling. This pump is the base for the Typhoon household pumping station manufactured by Bosna LG.

Electric pump BV-0.25-40-U5M with UZN (anti-pickup device) is a unique equipment for household use in conditions of unstable power supply. The unit is equipped with an UZN automation unit built into the power cord. UZN equalizes voltage drops in the network in the range of 190-250V to the operating one.

Voltage drops do not affect the pump performance in any way, do not lead to overheating and failure, which is especially important for summer residents with an unstable power supply system. The pump starts up smoothly, this is of great importance, because starting currents for pumps of this type are quite large. The maximum immersion depth is 90 m, while the pump capacity is 8 l / min.

All Typhoon pumps are designed for continuous operation without interruption and have IPx8 waterproof ratings.

All modifications of the Typhoon vibration water pump include three main units:

  1. Vibrating part. Consists of a shock absorber, a diaphragm, a coupling, a rod. An anchor is located at one end of the rod, and a piston at the other. There is a certain distance between the shock absorber and the diaphragm, both elements guide the rod during operation of the electric pump and ensure its tightness, preventing water from entering the part of the housing where the electric drive is located.
  2. Water intake part... It is a cavity, at the top of which there is a glass with openings for the intake of the pumped water and a check valve that prevents backflow even in cases when the pump is turned off.
  3. Electric drive part... Consists of a core, two coils and a suction discharge pipe. These parts are located in the body and filled with a compound with quartz sand fractions.

The compound fixes the electromagnet and insulates the windings of the coils, protecting them from water penetration. Quartz sand enhances heat dissipation from the electric drive unit. The core is a "U" -shaped figure of plates made of transformer steel. Enamel wire with a certain number of turns, insulated with a special varnish coating, is wound on the core.

The principle of operation is based on alternating current, which, with the help of a shock absorber, is converted into mechanical vibrations transmitted to the piston and armature. Water enters the pump through the intake holes and ends up in the chamber where the piston and valves are located.

Under the influence of vibrations, the piston begins to reciprocate, creating a water hammer in the glass with holes. The valves close the openings, and the water enters the chamber, from where it is discharged under pressure through a two-channel system into the outgoing discharge pipe.

To put electric pumps "Typhoon" into operation, you must:

When attaching the pump, it is advisable to melt the ends of the cord. For suspension in workings and sources of vibration modifications with the Typhoon logo, a steel cable must not be used. It will collapse from constant vibration.

The Typhoon pump must be suspended so that during operation it does not touch the walls and bottom. The distance from the water intake cup to the bottom must be at least 40 cm.

The electric pump "Typhoon" can be installed in an open reservoir, in a well of any type or in a well with a diameter of more than 12 cm.

Features of operation of electric pumps "Typhoon":

  1. The equipment does not need lubrication and pre-priming, it starts pumping liquid immediately after starting. It is not allowed to connect the Typhoon series pumps to the mains without first immersion in water!
  2. Electric pumps are designed for long-term uninterrupted operation, including in winter.Lifting equipment to the surface is necessary only for maintenance or routine inspection.
  3. The pump can only be switched on / off when using a plug or two-pole switch. When the protection system is triggered, there is no need to restart the pump; when the parameters are normalized, the unit will start up in automatic mode.
  4. During operation, the body of the electric pump should not hit the walls of the well or well. If this happens, the pump must be lifted and reinstalled so as to avoid knocks.
  5. When operating the electric pump in winter, it should be remembered that the depth of its immersion should be lower than the depth of freezing of the soil in the region. Considering that the optimal level for Typhoon units is 3 m from the water surface, this pump can be used without hindrance all year round.

Typhoon-2 can operate as part of a household pumping station, which is very convenient to use for irrigation and water supply of a private house.

Unlike conventional pumping stations, which consist of a hydraulic accumulator, pressure switch, pressure gauge and various connecting fittings, the Typhoon station consists of a Typhoon-2 high-performance electric pump and an electronic control unit that allows the pump to be controlled in automatic mode.

The Typhoon-2 water pump is connected through a controller, resulting in a full-fledged pumping station capable of providing water supply to a private house.

The Typhoon pumping station maintains a constant pressure in the water supply system, without changing the pressure and performance. The controller also ensures that the pump starts up smoothly, which reduces the risk of water hammer and pump overload. The device allows multiple switching off / switching off of the pump without reducing its service life.

The pump, which is part of the pumping station, is reliably protected from dry running if the water in the water source runs out. The controller will automatically turn off the unit, and when the water level returns to normal, it will automatically turn on. When the voltage in the electrical network exceeds 250V, the pump also automatically turns off.

Connecting the controller is very simple: you need to connect the plug of the electric cable of the Typhoon-2 pump to the socket of the electric pump control unit and the tube that transfers pressure to the pressure pipe from the pump to the water consumer. You can connect the controller yourself without involving a specialist.

Like other electric pumps of vibration type "Typhoons" need to be adjusted in order for the equipment to work with the required parameters. Adjustment is the selection of the optimal distance between the armature and the core, as well as between the valves and the working piston.

To set the working gap between the core and the armature, it is necessary that the voltage in the mains be exactly 220V. This can be achieved using a power supply stabilizer. Low voltage reduces the performance and pressure characteristics of the vibration pump, while high voltage leads to excessive load.

On average, the gap between the core and the armature for normal operation of the unit is 4.3-5 mm. If you have special tools, you can independently adjust this indicator, however, given the complexity of disassembling and reassembling the electric drive part of the pump, it is better to entrust this adjustment to the specialists of the service center.

You can independently adjust the position of the washers on the rod, located between the armature and the shock absorber. Washers are responsible for the performance characteristics of the electric pump, as well as for its efficiency. By adding washers, you get better performance. It is important here not to lock the washers too close to each other, becausethis will cause the armature and core to collide.

The washers, which are under the piston, are responsible for the total head of the pump by acting on the working piston. If you add washers here, the piston will fit more tightly and the pressure will increase, decreasing the washers - we will reduce the pressure. By adjusting it is possible to achieve optimal performance of the electric pump "Typhoon", for example, to reduce the head, while increasing productivity and efficiency.

Maintenance of the Typhoon electric pump includes a periodic inspection, which is carried out every 100 hours of operation. While the equipment is under warranty service, it is forbidden to disassemble the pump yourself. In the post-warranty period, you can replace worn-out parts with your own hands. The most common need for this is the piston and valves. To replace them, it is necessary to disassemble the pump in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Also, the owner of the Typhoon series pumps often encounters blockages in the inlet openings on the glass. You can remove the blockage by unclogging the holes with a thin blunt tool. This must be done carefully so as not to damage the check valve.

Do not repair the power cable yourself! Also, for safe operation and smooth operation of the pump, the following rules must be observed:

  • do not allow the pump to work without immersion in water;
  • do not raise / lower, inspect the running pump;
  • the voltage of the mains should be as close as possible to the indicator of 220V;
  • the temperature of the pumped-over water should not be higher than + 35C;
  • the plug and service socket must be located in a place protected from moisture.

Before commissioning Typhoon pumps, carefully study the manufacturer's instructions and follow its recommendations.
