Therefore, you should be very careful and careful. In order to separate the cap from the capsule, you need to use a sharp tool (I prefer a scalpel, but a clerical knife will certainly work), inserting it into the slot, as shown in the photo. You can go with a blade around the entire perimeter around the lid, or you can gently pry off the lid right away, here you can decide according to the situation.
When the gap has widened enough, you can begin to separate the cover from the body. These parts are glued together.
Sometimes the diaphragm of the speaker sticks to the cover, and the magnet and all the others stick to the inner cavity of the earphone, then there is a risk of tearing off the diaphragm and breaking the coil wires, after which the speaker actually becomes unusable for repair. Therefore, everything should be done slowly and carefully, without sudden movements. When the lid is completely detached, you can unsolder the speaker and put it aside together with the lid, I advise you to put them in a separate bag or box, and also mark the positive contact of each speaker (green and red).
Once the speakers are separated and securely packed, you can continue to take the headphones apart, there are still many difficult steps ahead. As you can see, in the headphone case, in addition to the wire and the speaker, there is also a plastic sleeve, which is responsible for fixing the wire and at the same time creates the acoustic design of the speaker.
There are 2 grooves in the sleeve for exhausting compressed air. The first leads to a hole in the back of the case (next to the wire), the second leads to the hole through which the wire is inserted into the case. This part is firmly glued to the back of the case, which often causes problems with its disassembly, since the plastic from which the EarPods are made is very soft and flexible. It is usually sufficient to simply lift the sleeve with a screwdriver by inserting the slot into the larger slot.
We mark the left and right bushings and cut off the parts of the wire that are pulled through them, and remove the wire with the capsule, we no longer need it. Also label the left and right capsules to avoid confusion (the right earpiece is the one on which the microphone hangs, as well as the red markings of the wires that are soldered to the speaker). After that we push a new wire into the capsules.
We put aside the wire with the capsules for now, and move on to the retaining bushings. Do not pull the wire out of them, since it was molded at the factory in the manufacture of these clips. Therefore, you will have to drill a hole in each retainer, push the wire there, and fix it. Drill 1.2 is suitable. 1.5 mm. I used a 1 mm drill, since I didn't have 1.5 mm at hand, after drilling the hole I expanded the hole with a diamond-coated nozzle, 1.5 mm in diameter. 1.8 mm.
Having passed the wire through the clips, remove about 2 cm of insulation at the ends, and glue the wire into the bushings using cyanoacrylate glue.It is advisable to use high-quality glue, gel-based, not cheap. After the glue has dried, glue the capsule fuses in the same way.
Now you can carry out the final steps - we solder the speakers (do not forget about the polarity and flux! :)), and glue the caps to the capsules. Of course, we first remove the remnants of the old glue.
As you can see, everything is ready, this path has been passed, and the new wire clearly refreshed the look of the headphones 🙂 If you use the correct cable, all functions will work as before the replacement: microphone, pause / answer button for volume control.

If only one of the headphones does not work for you, then it is much easier to fix it. - you already know which earphone does not work, you do not have to ring all the contacts on the plug. To locate the break, try wiggling the wire around the speaker and around the plug. - If the wire breaks near the earphone, then you will either have to solder the wires at the break (if the break is far from the earphone itself, more on this below), or disassemble the headphones and re-solder the wires on the speaker (how to fix an earpiece, detailed here).
To fix the wire from the headphones, first you need to determine the location of the wire break in the cable... To do this, carefully put on the headphones and, while listening to music, try bending the cable at different angles along its entire length. As soon as the sound in the earphone reappears, fix the section of the cable with your fingers - this is the place where the wire breaks inside the cable.
General repair scheme, if the wire breaks:
- Cut the cable where the wire breaks.
- Put on the heat shrink tubing (if available, if not, skip this step).
- Using a knife, carefully remove the sheathing from the cable. Do not damage the wires!
- Peel off the varnish (with a knife or lighter) and tin the wires with a soldering iron (if you will be soldering the wires).
- Solder the broken wires (or use the no-solder method from this article). Just do not confuse which wire to solder with!
- Check the headphones for functionality.
- Drag the heat shrink tubing to the soldering point, heat it with a hair dryer or lighter until it shrinks down to the shape of the wire. If no heat shrink tubing is available, carefully insulate the wire with several layers of electrical tape.

The headphone plug itself cannot be repaired, or it is very difficult... The most correct option, if the breakdown is in the plug, completely replace it with a new one (a new plug is not so expensive), or solder the broken wires again to the old plug, having previously disassembled it or cleaned it from the rubber sheath (in case the plug comes off the headphones). When buying a new plug, keep in mind that it must contain exactly the same number of contacts as your headset.... Read more about plug types here.
The general scheme for repairing a plug is something like this:
- Cut the wire at a distance of 0.5-1.5 cm from the plug.
- We disassemble the plug if it is disassembled. If not, then carefully clean the contacts of the plugs from the protective coating.
- We put a heat-shrink tube on the cable (you can do without it, if not). If desired, we also put it on each of the wires.
- We clean from the varnish and tin the wires in the cut part of the cable.
- We solder the wires to the plug.
- We move the heat shrinkage to the place of soldering (where the plug contacts are), heat it with a hairdryer or a lighter until it shrinks to the size of the wire. If there is no heat shrinkage, then we isolate and fix all several layers of electrical tape (not a very reliable method and rather rough).
- We put the plug back, if it is prefabricated. If not, then we leave it as it is.

Fixing a headphone jack or jack or input isn't easy... Problems specifically with the connector, and not the headphones, may be indicated by both the lack of sound in the headphones and incorrect connection / disconnection of the headset to the device. For example, when a headset is connected, the device may not see it, or, on the contrary, after disconnecting the headset, the device may continue to consider it connected, thereby continuing to transmit sound to the headphones, which are no longer in the jack.
Reasons for Login Breakdown maybe two:
- The connector is clogged.
To solve this problem, you just need to take a needle, soak it in alcohol, drip a couple of drops of alcohol from the needle into the connector, and then clean the connector - first carefully with a needle, then with a plug from the headphones, sticking it into the connector and pulling it out several times. - The socket itself inside the device has broken.

Repairing headphones with a microphone, as well as the reasons for their breakdown, are no different from repairing headphones without a microphone.... The only difference, perhaps, is only in the number of wires in the cable and contacts on the plug (+2 additional wires in the cable for the microphone and +1 contact on the plug), which you need to know where to solder. You also need to have an idea of how the microphone and remote control work on the cable in the headset.

If the problem is not in the contacts, but in the speaker itself, then the driver cannot be restored. If your membrane and any other elements inside the driver are torn, you have 2 options: buy new headphones and go to the service center, and then buy new headphones (if you're not lucky).
