DIY EVA shoe repair

In detail: DIY EVA shoe repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

EVA stands for Ethylene Vinyl Acetate and is an environmentally friendly, durable, lightweight, resilient and resilient material. It does not absorb moisture and odors, it is easy to clean, in most cases it is used in the manufacture of shoes and has a drawback - it is not resistant to sharp tools, such shoes will pierce or cut even a knot with an unsuccessful step.

Therefore, repair is a rather topical issue for EVA products. All-purpose adhesives will not work. Boots made of EVA can only be glued with specialized material.

Sneakers, boots or winter fishing boots made of EVA material will only glue the material of the same name with high quality, i.e. EVA glue.

  • waterproof;
  • does not spread;
  • is able to tightly connect the gaps formed at the bend, as well as lateral and angular;
  • the repaired site remains almost invisible;
  • the product stays on the shoe for a long time, thanks to which the damaged area is protected from re-damage;
  • the composition is consumed sparingly, since the manufacturer recommends applying it in a thin layer (otherwise the polymerization process is difficult);
  • inexpensive, a tube of 15 ml costs about 100-120 rubles;
  • the shelf life is 24 months (2 years).

The method of working with EVA practically does not differ from the usual one, it should only be taken into account that it is impossible to glue PVC products with a means.

Instructions for use:

  1. Clean the joining areas and degrease with acetone. You can do without degreasing, but in any case, the areas to be glued must be clean and dry.
  2. Expand or squeeze the damaged area so that the porous EVA surface (usually the inside of the product) is on the outside. This is important as the glossy outer surface does not stick.
  3. Coat the porous cut (tear) with adhesive and let sit for three to four minutes.
  4. After that, connect the edges of the gap and press them firmly together.
  5. The final solidification of the product occurs in a day (24 hours).

Similarly, it will be possible to repair, for example, the Toptygin winter fishing boots. How to use the glue correctly, the manufacturer indicates on the packaging of the composition. Follow the instructions and the cut will literally disappear from your shoe.

It turns out that the EVA sole is easily damaged, punctured, torn by thorns, knots, branches.

Carved the jungle from sea buckthorn - "caught" in the soles of sea buckthorn thorns. The bots began to let water through.

It turned out that shoes made of EVA just can't be glued - apart from special EVA glue, this foam material is guaranteed not to be glued in any way, and then only end-to-end.

In the video, a man cuts off the top of his EVA boot,

smears the cut with EVA glue and connects the cut shaft with a BUTT.
How he creates the pressing force at the joint remains a mystery.

But how to fix the holes / punctures from the thorns?

I know advice to buy new bots. New bots will just as well have holes - this is an “inherent” property of the EVA material.

Tell me the repair technology. Most likely fishermen, hikers own this art.

  1. Thoroughly clean and degrease the damaged area on the boot. Using sandpaper to rough up the surface to apply the glue to, sand the patches as well. This condition must be observed, as the glue does not adhere to glossy surfaces!
  2. Slide your hand into the boot and squeeze out the torn part of the boot. Apply glue to the sides of the torn part. From the outside, gently push this part inward, joining the edges.
  3. Apply glue to the patch and apply to the damaged area from the outside.
  4. Apply the patch in the same way from the inside and press it in. To do this, place a piece of fabric wrapped in a bag in the boot.
  5. Put the weight on top of the boot placed in the bag. One day after the repair, the boots can be used.
