You don't know where to put your old things that are out of fashion for a long time? You can’t even imagine what can be made of them! For example, cutting off the frayed sleeves of your favorite blouse and sewing guipure sleeves on this place, you will get an elegant blouse. There is also an answer to the question of how to remake a jacket, which you will learn about in our master class. We will introduce you to the different ways of converting old clothes into new ones. You will be so carried away by this activity that it will no longer be possible to stop you.

Altering your things is by no means a sign of poverty, but a special kind of creative art. Instead of the clothes just gathering dust and taking up space in the closet, you can make something really useful out of them. So, let's take a look at a list of what can be made from old clothes:

  • Dresses.
  • Textile or denim bags.
  • Original T-shirts (we are talking about reworking an old T-shirt).
  • Jeans or shorts with lace or other trimmings.
  • Tops and T-shirts.
  • Skirts made of old dress, jeans, patches.
  • Warm sweater socks and knee-highs.

We have presented you just a fraction of what you can really make of old things. The list is endless! Next, we will consider several methods of alteration that will be within the power of even the most inexperienced seamstress.

Most often, denim clothing is altered due to external defects: scuffs at the bottom of the legs or crotch, torn areas of fabric, and so on. For work, only whole sections of denim are taken, and the spoiled ones become unusable. We are used to wearing spoiled clothes at home or in the country, so that no one but you can see it. Let's not go to such extreme measures and remake old jeans into stylish shorts with our own hands.

We will prepare everything you need, namely:

  • Old jeans.
  • Threads to match.
  • Needle.
  • Well sharpened scissors.
  • Elements for decoration (lace, beads, beads, and so on).
  • Tape for hemming trousers.
  • Chalk or remnant.

  1. We put on jeans.
  2. We stand in front of the mirror.
  3. We measure the desired length of future shorts on the product with chalk, adding 1 cm to the hem hem. If you are planning to make a roll-up shorts, then you need to make another mark showing the width of the additional fold.
  4. Take off your jeans.
  5. We draw with chalk or remnant a straight line passing through our lowest mark. If you are confident that you can cut your pants straight, then this step can be skipped.
  6. Cut off the pants along the outlined lines. Since we are sewing simple shorts, we tuck the bottom edge inward a few centimeters, and then just hem it (you can use the tape to trim the bottom of the trousers). In the case of shorts with a bottom turn, you need to bend 1 cm of denim up the top of the product, and then make another hem and hem it.

We got such clothes with our own hands in the form of denim shorts!

  1. We pick up an old long-sleeved shirt.
  2. Expand the collar of the shirt.
  3. We attach the back of the product to ourselves so that the collar is at chest level. It will serve as a bodice for our dress.
  4. We tie the sleeves of the shirt on our back.
  5. We fasten all the buttons.
  6. Cut off the sleeves and the edge of the collar from the product.
  7. We make the hem of the shirt even. We wrap it up and gently sweep it away.
  8. We apply the above actions to the second sleeve.
  9. Sew on buttons to the previously baked place on one sleeve (optional).
  10. We make holes for the loops on the other sleeve. We process each loop with a thread, and if you have a machine for creating loops, then use it.

So the clothes are ready with your own hands at home!

  1. We take old jeans and cut off the legs from them. For work, we used several jeans of different colors, taking shreds from them.
  2. Sew the shreds together, forming a denim rectangle.
  3. We trim the sides of the resulting shape.
  4. Turn the cut over with the reverse side and fold it in half.
  5. Trim the jeans on the sides.
  6. We make two tapes for the handles of our bag.
  7. We turn out the bag and wrap its edges to which we apply ready-made handles.
  8. We sew everything with a double line.

The denim bag is ready to use!

Re-making a coat is not a difficult process, but you will still have to work painstakingly. You can experiment with any details by trimming, reworking and decorating them with various elements. Now we will redo the coat without defects: scuffs, holes, and so on. Our coat fabric has retained its original appearance. In this master class, we will alter the coat into a fashionable leather jacket. The entire rework process consists of several stages, which we will now talk about.

  • We steam the sleeves to make it easier for us to work with the product in the future. We are doing this also because the coat is a little too big, so we need to rip off the sleeves to fit the armhole line. We put aside the sleeves, since we do not need them yet.
  • We re-register the sides on the shelves of our product. We find the center on them by measuring the entire distance divided by two. This mark will be the center of the shelf.

Important! If the fabric is in “herringbone”, then it is quite simple to determine the center - by the vertical pattern.

  • We draw a new line of the side from the received mark of the central part. Draw up a diagonal from the bottom center line. This mark will gradually widen in relation to the width of the lapel.

Important! Our coat has a collar, so the lapel width is equal to and will be the width of our turn-down collar. If your product is without a collar, then determine this value yourself.

Important! By the same principle, you can remake a jacket.

Surely you have an old men's classic suit hanging around in your closet, which has long gone out of fashion or is simply worn out. Most often, men's suits are sewn from high-quality fabrics, which are difficult to accidentally tear or ruin. Do you want to make a new thing out of it to update your wardrobe? We will be happy to help you. To do this, we only need to take the upper part of it - the jacket. We will redo it. In the skillful hands of a needlewoman, a jacket can get a second long life in the form of a stylish women's vest. You will spend about 30 minutes of free time on altering your jacket. Agree, it's just incredible to get a new vest in such a short period of time!

  1. We take the finished jacket in our hands and cut off the sleeves from it along the shoulder seam. We carry out these actions very carefully so as not to violate the integrity of the lining.
  2. We cut the armhole of the sleeves, as the vest should have a deeper cut.
  3. We process the edges of the armhole. For this we used leather strips. You can take any other material for closing the cut edge - leatherette, textile or satin braid and others. Follow your own taste.
  4. Cut off all the buttons on the jacket.
  5. Sew in a zipper along the two central lines of the product (where the buttons were).
  6. We decorate our vest with various decorative elements. To do this, we took overhead inserts with spikes, which were sewn to the shoulder seams. You can use whatever you want, the main thing is not to overdo it with the amount of jewelry.
  7. A do-it-yourself vest is ready to please its owner!

Important! A fur collar and a narrow leather belt are perfect as a decoration for your new vest, which should be used in different variations of the product. For example, a belt will well complement a classic vest-vest, and a fur collar will complement outerwear with a zipper. Do not forget to consider all these nuances in order to look beautiful.

  • Do not rework clothes made from very old fabrics, as they can tear even during the process of making a new garment.
  • If you decide to decorate a thing with paint, then for this take only a high-quality dye intended for painting on fabric. So the paint will not rub off or wash off, and you will wear these clothes for a long time.
  • Before cutting and cutting new clothes, sketch out the desired item.
  • Try to properly hide the defects of old fabric by adding various elements and inserts while sewing.
  • If there were buttons on the old clothes, then it is better to replace them with new ones.
