Namely, four teeth were broken on the gears in the gearbox of this drive. The price of the issue is $ 150 and the replacement of the entire gearbox in the vzbor. The idea came to make the gear entirely by casting, but then I decided to make everything much easier.

So we take the paraffin and heats it up. We make an impression, then unfold the gear, and make an impression of the missing teeth. Insert the gear and fill it with epoxy. It freezes, we process it with a file and there will be happiness! Everything works without question. This idea was prompted by an article on a friendly site. So the man made the missing pens. Cast from epoxy, then painted in color.

Any reducer with plastic gears with broken or worn teeth will require less restoration costs than repairing an electric drive damaged by a jammed gearbox with metal gears. This is my opinion and any reader, whom I respect, can dispute it.



It is a completely different matter when our home appliance stores also present components or spare parts for the equipment that they sell. In general, there will be no problems with repair here, if the equipment we have is not yet exclusive, the repair of which can take all the strength or expensive nerves.

At home, with a minimum of equipment and a little suitable tool, you can repair damaged plastic gear with minor damage, or replace it with a copy from another material suitable for this.

Whoever uses a 3D printer or a CNC milling machine, for that, such a repair is quick and less costly; but, like televisions in the 60s, 3D printers and CNC machines are not available in every home, and not everyone needs all this for one gear.



Where nylon, polystyrene, caprolactam, aramid and other synthetic products of the chemical industry are used, and in the gearboxes of small devices and units intended for use in everyday life and for working with food products, most of all I noticed wear-resistant and durable gears made from nylon ... This is my observation.

There are ways to restore the plastic gear of the gearbox at home by casting, building up with plastic, metal or glue, pasting with epoxy resin or polymer glue, glue with sodium bicarbonate, rolling or rolling on a milling cutter.

Someone does not bother at all and repairs the gearbox by replacing the gears made of bronze, brass, or cuts it out of a textolite blank according to a manufactured template. Here is an example of a worn-out gear from a milk cooling vat geared motor. When the lid of the milk bath is open, a long rotating shaft with blades at the end, in a position close to horizontal, creates increased loads on the rotating gears of the reducer. This happens often, since many are not yet accustomed to the fact that, in addition to their interests, they also need to follow the technology with which the technical process is directly related.

This is not an eternal gear, but still its resource is designed for a long time with the appropriate operation prescribed by the manufacturer of the entire gear motor mechanism, the life of which is nevertheless shortened by our own hands.



Of all the methods of gear restoration available to us at that time, we chose prosthetics. On top of the damaged teeth of the small rim of the gear, thin metal plates were placed, similar in shape to the shape of normal teeth.

As a blank for prostheses, so to speak, we used prepared segments from the spokes of the most ordinary umbrella. By the way, the umbrella dates back to the times of the USSR with the appropriate quality of metal parts.

These racks already have a profile that, in cross-section, resembles the involute profile of the teeth of the existing gear, and we only had to additionally give them a shape identical to the one that would completely copy the tooth of the drive gear along the depressions on the rim between the teeth of the driven gear wheel.



That is, for the template for restoring the profile and size of the teeth of the rim of the driving gear, the rim of the driven gear was taken, the teeth of which were not damaged. The center distance of the gears was also taken into account, which should remain the same so that the radial clearance of the gear train would not change.

With an increased radial clearance, the teeth in the transmission unit will squeeze each other, a tight stroke will appear, the diameter of the bore for the shaft will increase, the head or leg of the tooth may break, the gear itself may burst, and much more.



The consequences can be different, and the worst of all will be when new damage is found on both gears of the gear train and you have to choose between re-repairing already two damaged gears or replacing the entire defective gearbox.

If the radial clearance in the same transmission unit is reduced, only the gear rims can be damaged. With a constant axial distance of the gears, the depth of entry will decrease, with an uneven load on the gearbox, at some point, the teeth will begin to slip, wear out or break off. The consequences in this case can also be different.

Using the gear rim of the driven gear wheel, the prepared blanks for the gear rim of the restored gear were bent in such a way that a normal lateral clearance in the mating of the gear wheels would be preserved.



The gear to be restored was screwed to the tabletop, and the subsequent actions were carried out most carefully and accurately.

The hub of the gear being restored turned out to be wide, the material from which the gear was made melts at temperatures above 210 0 С, which was enough to use a hot soldering iron and gently melt the "prosthetic" blanks into the hub body and into the damaged crown of the gear being restored.

It is necessary to inject the linings strictly perpendicular to the gear disk, so that the plane of engagement of the gear train is as large as possible and remains the same in the mating of the gear wheels of the gears.



It was also necessary to check the height of the formed tooth in order to maintain the optimal radial clearance of the gear train.

The size of the circumference of the tops of the restored gear rim of the gear was also checked with a vernier caliper - in a word, when fusing each lining, the dimensions of the restored gear rim, close to the original ones, were adhered to.

The linings were not fused over the entire width of the gear hub, so as not to cut the crown with the hub from the disk of the restored gear. The protruding edges of the weld overlays were carefully ground off with a file, without overheating the metal.
