Today we will consider a set of components and assemblies of the Belarus MTZ-82 tractor that support its frontal part - the front axle. We will consider its scheme and principle of operation, as well as the technical aspects of its connection. We will study this mechanism completely, but first you need to fully understand the circuit and device of this mechanism. To do this, we will give its complete diagram and give an explanation of the details.

The main task of the front axle of the Belarus MTZ-82 tractor is to transfer torque from the engine to the guiding front wheels. The mechanism itself consists of: transmission, front differential and wheel reduction gear.

The transmission structure is made up of two helical bevel gears. The pinion gear (37) is mounted on a tapered roller bearing (40) in a sleeve (39). The driven one (25) fits into the belt of the differential housing (27) and the splines, with the help of the nut (24) it is fixed against any axial movements.

This mechanism uses a limited slip limited slip differential. The cover (31) and the housing (27) are bolted together, they contain semi-axial gears (21), a satellite (30, driven friction discs (36) and driving (28), as well as pressure cups (35).

The differential holds the two axle shafts in one piece, and also eliminates separate wheel slip and significantly increases the tractive power of the tractor. When it is turned on, the wheels are locked.
Strengthening from the axles passes to the satellites, which is transmitted by the shoulder cups (35). This in turn compresses the friction discs (26 and 36).

If the frictional force in the discs (26 and 28) exceeds the standard deviation at the moment of turning, then slipping occurs. The MTZ-82 front axle differential is placed in the cover (20) and housing (34) on tapered roller bearings (32).

Additionally, a breather (33) is installed in the system, which maintains normal pressure in the differential cavity.

How the tractor's front axle is connected

With the help of hollow axles (58) and a bar, the bridge will be connected, in turn, the hollow axles provide rolling of the front wheels and the axle in the transverse plane. Locking of the axes from movement occurs with the help of strips (59).

Mechanical gearboxes of final drives are placed in the sleeves of the cover (20) and the one-piece body (34). They consist of pairs of bevel gears that serve as hinges of equal angular velocities.

Splined shanks with gears hold the axle shaft and vertical differential shaft. The semi-axle of the tractor itself is mounted on two tapered roller-type bearings (14), and the vertical shaft rests on them and its installation goes into the bore of the pivot pipe (13). Cuffs (16 and 45), together with a paronite gasket, seal the cavity (19) along cover surface.

The pivot tube (13) is supported by a coil spring (49). The pipe itself enters the sleeve (47), it is also pressed into the gear housing (53) and locked with a pin.

The process itself is quite simple to understand, first there is a rotation of the disc flange (2) on a roller-type bearing (50) and a pair of tapered ones (4), which are pressed into the glass (6), which is located in the bore of the cover (1).

The gear wheel (52) and bearing are secured against axial movement by means of two bolts and a washer.
Sealing of the lower conical pair is carried out using a rubber ring, which is placed in the glass (6), as well as a lip and paronite gasket along the plane of the body cover (53).
A swivel arm with trapezium steering rods and wheel fender brackets is attached to the gear housing. The transmission of torque occurs to the disc flange (2) from the semi-axial gear of the differential (21), using the gears of the lower and upper bevel pair.

We will consider the repair in several stages, depending on those signs. Which can be observed. Each stage will be illustrated with detailed pictures.

If traces of grease appear on the propeller shaft flange and the main gear housing, this is the first sign that the loss of elasticity will be lost and the cuffs of the main gear will collapse.
To do this, replace the oil seal and disconnect the propeller shaft. First, unscrew the castellated nut and remove the cardan flange. Next, we unscrew the bolts securing the glass, the bearings of the main gear and two mounting bolts. After that, the drive gear is pressed in from the glass and the cage with the cuff itself is removed as an assembly.

If traces of oil are found on the inner surface of the wheel rim or on the disc flange, this is a sign of the destruction of the wheel axle. To do this, you need to remove the wheel and the gearbox of the final drive in a complete assembly (see the layout diagram of the parts of the final drive gearbox of the MTZ-82 tractor).

It happens that the diagnosis reveals damage or wear of the differential parts. In addition, sometimes it becomes necessary to replace the final drive gear. In this case, you cannot do without removing the differential (Fig. 2.4.30).

How to remove the MTZ-82 differential? To remove it, first unscrew the bolts tightening the boxes. We remember and know (and if we don’t know, then we take note) that it is undesirable to disassemble and change the relative position of the differential boxes. For this purpose, at first, their disconnections are compared with the digital markings on the outer surfaces. If it faded or disappeared, restore it (Fig. 2.4.31-2.4.33).

After the differential is assembled and placed in the axle housing, it is the turn to check the axial movement of the driven gear of the main drive (clearance in the differential bearings).When the gear is shifted in the axial direction, the values ​​displayed on the indicator should be within 0.01-0.10 mm.

The next step is to adjust the axial clearance in the bearings of the main gear (Fig. 2.4.34) and differential. Then the main gear is placed in the bridge housing. At the final stage, they look and, if necessary, correct the lateral clearance between the teeth of the bevel gears (Fig. 2.4.35).

The lateral clearance is adjusted by the number of spacers placed under the bearing cup of the final drive. If you remove several spacers, then the gap between the gears decreases, and if added, it increases.

The appearance of traces of grease on the propeller shaft flange and the main gear housing indicates a loss of elasticity or destruction of the drive gear sleeve.

When replacing the cuff of the main gear drive gear, disconnect the propeller shaft, unscrew the castle nut and remove the propeller shaft flange. Then the bolts of the main gear bearing cup are unscrewed and with two mounting bolts they are pressed out of the axle housing. After that, the drive gear is pressed out of the glass and the cage assembly with the cuff is removed (Fig. 2.4.20—2.4.22).

Traces of oil on the inner surface of the wheel rim or disc flange indicate destruction of the wheel axle seal.

To remove the cup of cuffs, first remove the wheel and final drive gear assembly (Fig. 2.4.23, 2.4.24). Then the two bolts of the radial bearing are unscrewed, the driven gear is removed and the wheel flange is pressed out (Fig. 2.4.25, 2.4.26). The cup of cuffs and the cup of the outer bearing cage are pressed out using two mounting bolts (Fig. 2.4.27, 2.4.28).

Heating of the housing of the upper bevel pair of the wheel reducer and the absence of lubrication in it indicate wear or destruction of the vertical shaft seal.

A decrease in the suspension compression stroke, a decrease in its stiffness indicate a loss of spring elasticity. Difficulty turning the steering wheel when cornering (with a working power steering) indicates a failure of the thrust bearings or seized telescopic suspension joints.

To replace the suspension parts, it is enough to remove the wheel reducer. When replacing the sleeve of the kingpin, special pullers are used. In the process of disassembly, the defective parts are replaced and the most worn surfaces are monitored, guided by the data below.

Wheel jam, increased noise in the axle housing, excessive heating of the main drive bearing cup, a large amount of metal particles in the oil drained from the axle housing, indicate destruction or extreme wear of the bearings of the main gear drive gear or differential, chips or chipping of the teeth of the main gear bevel gears transmission.

Noises and knocks in the axle body that intensify when turning the tractor, the interlocking of both wheel axles when cornering, the absence of wheel locking during slipping indicate the failure of the parts of the differential or the locking mechanism.

To eliminate failures and malfunctions of the main gear and differential, the front axle is hung, installed on stands and the main gear is removed. Then an external examination of its parts is carried out and, turning the driven gear with a mounting crowbar, inspection of the differential parts (Fig. 2.4.29).

If during the inspection breakdowns or wear of the parts of the differential are found, as well as if it is necessary to notice the gears of the main gear, proceed to the removal of the differential (Fig. 2.4.30).

To disassemble the differential, the bolts tightening the boxes are unscrewed; it should be borne in mind that it is not recommended to dismantle and change the relative position of the differential boxes. Therefore, before disconnecting them, check the digital marking on the outer surfaces and, if necessary, restore it (Fig. 2.4.31-2.4.33).

After assembling and installing the differential in the axle housing, check the axial movement of the driven gear of the main drive (clearance in the differential bearings). When moving the gear in the axial direction, the indicator readings should be within 0.01-0.10 mm.

Next, adjust the axial clearance in the bearings of the main gear (Fig. 2.4.34) and differential, and the main gear is installed in the axle housing. Then check and, if necessary, adjust the lateral clearance between the teeth of the bevel gears (Fig. 2.4.35).

The front drive axle MTZ-82 is one of the most important tractor units. And its replacement imposes additional costs for the owner of the MTZ-82 tractor. The cost of the new MTZ-82 front axle is up to 100 thousand rubles. How to reduce such expenses? Very simple! It is necessary to carry out repairs and maintenance of the MTZ-82 front axle in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of the equipment manufacturer. In this note, we will define the main points to which you should pay attention when repairing and maintaining MTZ-82 front axles.

Description of the front axle MTZ-82

The front drive axle on the MTZ-82 tractor is of a portal type, that is, the beam is not coaxial with the wheels. This is done in order to provide the necessary agrotechnical clearance for inter-row cultivation of tall row crops. The MTZ-82 front axle is installed in the opening of the front beam of the tractor half-frame.

The main malfunctions of the MTZ-82 front axle

The MTZ-82 front axle, like any mechanism, can fail at any time. After assembling and installing the differential in the axle housing, check the axial movement of the driven gear of the main drive - clearance in the differential bearings. When moving the gear in the axial direction, the indicator readings should be within: for the MTZ-82 tractor - 0.01. 0.10 mm. If the movement of the gear is more than 0.5 mm, as well as if there is no play in the bearings, make the adjustment. Change the number of gaskets that are located between the body and the bridge cover at MTZ-82. To reduce the gap, remove several spacers, and install additional ones to increase the gap.

After the axial clearance in the bearings of the final drive and differential is adjusted, install the final drive in the axle housing and check and, if necessary, adjust the lateral clearance between the teeth of the bevel gears. This operation for the MTZ-82 tractor is mandatory after replacing the main gear parts and after adjusting the axial clearance in the differential bearings.

For the MTZ-80, 82 tractor, adjust the side clearance by changing the thickness of the package of gaskets located under the bearing cup of the main gear. When you remove some of the spacers, the gap between the gears decreases, and when you add spacers, it increases.

After the side clearance is adjusted, turn the suspended MTZ-82 front axle either by the wheel or by the cardan flange. In this case, the main gear should turn smoothly, without jerking or jamming. The correctness of assembly and adjustment of the differential and the main transmission of the MTZ-80.82 tractor is checked by the contact patch of the bevel gear teeth. When correctly adjusted, the stain is located in the middle of the tooth in length and height and occupies at least half of its area.

The load-bearing beams are a kind of support made of semi-frame timber, which provides the entire device with the proper level of mobility. The suspension made according to this scheme has its own name - semi-rigid.

The main gear together with the front axle differential are located inside the structure. It is the responsibility of the center gear to increase the torque force, which leads to the increase in power to the required level. The transmission consists of bevel gears. The function of the clamps, preventing excessive swinging of the bridge part, is performed by the protrusions installed in special places of the body and cover.

The differential, which the MTZ 82 bridge is equipped with, is made of two parts similar to each other. Each of the parts contains:

  • 4 satellites;
  • paired axles;
  • paired gears;
  • 2 pressure bowls;

In this regard, it is also important here to monitor not only the availability, but also the quality of the oil, and carry out its planned replacement. During the operation of the tractor, a significant part of the load falls on the gearbox, as a result of which, this part requires a regular check of the condition of all connections.

Fortunately, not all components of the wheel reducer need to be adjusted during maintenance. In particular, this applies to bevel gears. These components are regulated, as a rule, only during their replacement.

This part passes through itself most of all the loads, therefore, a gap forms between the teeth of the hook over time, which constantly increases. Due to the increase in this gap, the so-called backlash appears. Backlash reduces the efficiency of the gear and the tractor cannot operate at optimum power.

To adjust the drive gear, the first step is to check the fastening nut, more precisely, its condition. This is a simple procedure. It is enough to lightly shake the propeller shaft flange by hand. If the flange moves freely on the spline joints, the nut must be tightened, since it has loosened. After pulling the fastening nut, check the flange again, the backlash should disappear.

Both of these units are located in a single housing, respectively, they have to be serviced at the same time. When examining these nodes, the following is taken into account:

  • what is the state of the axle shafts;
  • inspect how tight all the connecting elements are;
  • the level and quality of the oil is checked, if necessary, it is replaced;
  • inspection of axial clearances is carried out;
  • a check of the production of all parts is carried out.

If, when inspecting the differential and front gear, it is found that some parts have exhausted their resources, they must either be sent for repair or replaced with new ones.

Despite the fact that the MTZ model 82 tractor is one of the most reliable in its direction, its parts, nevertheless, sometimes fail. However, by following the front axle maintenance guidelines above, the risk of failure of most parts is minimized.

For the most part, the MTZ tractor breaks down due to the lack of lubricants (oil). Lubrication plays a huge role in the performance of all products that are designed with moving parts. In this case, those who have an MTZ tractor may face such moments:

  2. Lubrication marks on the central transmission housing or on the propeller shaft flange.

In the first case, the reason lies in the wheel axle. To fix the malfunction, remove the wheel together with the final drive reducer, remove the gear and the radial bearing, which is tightened with the mounting bolts. Fix the axles. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.

The second case indicates a failure of the main gear cuff. It is fixed like this:

  • the flange is removed from the propeller shaft, for which it is necessary to unscrew the corresponding nuts;
  • the bearing block of the main drive is disassembled. To do this, unscrew the mounting and fastening bolts. The block itself resembles an ordinary glass;
  • the drive gear is removed;
  • the cuff is removed;
  • a new cuff is installed;
  • assembly of the unit is performed.

This element does not perform such important functions as the front axle drive, however, without it, full-fledged movement of the tractor will be impossible. This device plays the role of a rear semi-frame. Because of this, some difficulties arise during maintenance. However, with the proper skill, these difficulties will not be noticeable.

The maintenance of this unit includes checking the oil level, as well as measuring the clearances between the teeth of the front gear. To repair the rear axle parts, the cab and other elements that prevent access to the unit are dismantled, the rear axle is disconnected from the front half-frame and the rear wheels are dismantled, the unit is disassembled, the faulty elements are repaired, or replaced with new ones.

It is worth noting that the MTZ 82 series tractor is made of materials that are distinguished by increased wear resistance. But each type of technique requires a proper attitude towards itself.
